Of course, these venues up charge greatly for watered down drinks. So either get a beer or pregame. I do want to visit again real soon to sit in the lawn area. What I wasn't crazy about was the venue's mixed messaging. Online they said they host shows rain or shine and that they didn't allow umbrellas inside the venue. For the evening this concert was set on, there was a chance of thunderstorms which had a potential of cancelling the show all together. Thankfully we waited at a restaurant nearby, but I felt so bad for people waiting in line. They kept pushing entry time. Door were originally set to open at 6:30pm. Doors didn't open until around 9pm. And it was pouring. The venue has strict rules about 11pm stop time (makes sense for residents) and that they will not refund tickets. When they finally allowed us in, they didn't stop people with umbrellas. It made sense that they had to cancel the opener. Thankfully we were able to see most of The Marias' set and it didn't rain! They had to stop a little early due to thunder, but it was so close to 11pm at that point I imagine we just missed two song. This was a weather thing so made sense. The venue itself was nicely set up. With clear sections for food, merchandise, and restrooms. I imagine on a sunny evening, it's amazing here. I just didn't like the mixed messaging from the venue.

From the beginning, the experience was wonderful. After leaving our car and scanning our tickets, there were multiple employees to direct us and answer any questions. We began by exploring the gardens. My personal favorite was the sculpture walk, with several different sculptures hidden around every corner. We then took a self-guided tour of the historic mansion. The mansion is decorated with items from the Cheek family collection, as well as donated items and rotating art exhibits. I particularly loved the wood paneled library and the small morning/dining room. Definitely the place to come if you want some design inspo! Be prepared to walk when you visit. We arrived around 10:30 on a weekend, and were directed to park in the overflow parking. The overflow lot requires a walk on gravel/rock with a slight incline. Although the site is huge, there are plenty of benches and three different restrooms. There are limited food options, but we were able to bring sandwiches and enjoy lunch in the water garden. When visiting, don't miss the iconic Wisteria Arbor or the stables!

I only attended the garden due to time since I had to be back on the road for home. I was able to walk 3/4 of the garden within 2 hours so I say there is much to see and admire. I was able to take photos with ease and I enjoyed that I wasn't the only one carrying a camera. 1 thing I didn't like is that the paid parking is on a steep hill and basically dirt. It was only $7 ($5 + $2 fee) but i would've hoped for something a bit better. So carry your good shoes in your hand.

FOOD - Others said their's was ok (Chicken Sandwich and Burger)…read more I got the Black bean burger and it was not good. It was like a patty out of the frozen section that was overcooked and hard around the outsides but also had zero flavor. None. Not with the cheese or tomato or pickle. Literally NO flavor. I would not get that again. We were friends with another nearby table and they were not impressed either... They ordered steak fries with their meal and it came with five of them, they said. The food took a long time to arrive so we all ate super fast. We didn't plan on it taking so long and were so hungry by the time it arrived, hence NO PHOTOS. AMBIANCE - I love the outdoor option, it felt clean, no big spider webs, no leaf messes, chairs were comfortable, tables (at least the one we were at) was big enough for our plates of food. I saw a lot of smaller tables which didn't look near big enough if more than two people ordered food. SERVICE - The waitstaff was great, the food runner was great. I think it would be better and faster if the staff wasn't focused on running one table at a time, you see multiple tables need water, grab a pitcher and fill several at one time. With some efficiency I think it would make more customers happier. The basement was closed, but it kinda gave me the heebeegeebees. Hopefully Tuesday nights will continue outside as long as possible. BATHROOM - The one right inside at the main bar on the top level was somewhat clean, but soooooo SMALL. If you're a lady and get weirded out at all about bathrooms (especially SMALL ones) this will not be the place for you, just use the restroom before you come! However, it was fully stocked, so that was nice. I had super high hopes for this place, maybe it's better when it's not a busy night? or maybe it's better when they aren't allowing people to sit outside? I'd give it another shot though... perhaps the dessert menu is where it's at?! LOL

This FREE concert series at Cumberland Park on the East bank of the Cumerland river (next to LP…read moreField) started this year and runs the third Sunday of each month from August to November (4 concerts total). It goes from 5-7pm and will be returning next year in case you can't make the last date of November 21st. It features famous jazz musicians playing original and classic tunes. They play in the amphitheater in the park, and there are no seats, so bring a blanket or chairs or, if you can make it, you can sit on the wall. I heard about this through the Artober Nashville promotions, and having never been to Cumberland Park I decided to give it a try. I will review that park in a seperate post, but it is absolutely beautiful and I can't wait to go there again. Beautiful views of downtown Nashville at sunset with our wonderful pedestrian bridge...yeah its pretty much the best setting ever for a free jazz concert. And Nashville, for being Music City, we sure do lack good jazz. But apparently you've realized that, and found a solution in this little gem. I thank you for that. This is still a new event so it wasn't crowded, and it was very relaxing. There's a concession stand near the bridge but that's all for food or drink as of now, so I recommend packing a picnic, and bringing extra clothes as its chilly this time of year (not so in the summer months). It's a great way to wind down a Sunday, and like I said you can't beat the views. The musicians were beyond talented, and the music is so soothing. The quartet that played this weekend did a great rendition of "What a Wonderful World" that seemed to resonant with the surroundings themselves. I will be going to the one in November, even if I have to wear winter gear to do so. I will absolutely support this great idea so it keeps happening. Please, remind Music City that we like more than country. This was a great event and I am so happy I got the chance to try it out.

They had a food truck circle at the end of the path and snack vendors along the way. It might be me, but I feel like this event is overshadowed by some of the other outdoor musical events and it shouldn't. It's a perfect way to end your week!
