"The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form…read moreof poison." Ann Wigmore 'The Conscious Cook' is a wonderful establishment where they offer live cooking classes that not only educates you about eating healthy, but also introduces you to a whole new world of foods. I attended a Vegan meetup here and was introduced to a live demo of 'Plant Based Nutrition for Cancer Prevention.' The owner, Sadie King and vegan chef and Health Coach, Landry Fuller prepared easy, flavorful dishes that were full of vitamins and antioxidants to keep your immune system strong and your body healthy. This was a great event to attend for those who want to try and change their diet and improve their health. We learned how cancer can be prevented by making smarter food choices including nutrient-rich fruits, vegetables, fiber, herbs and spices. 'The Conscious Cook' also offers an array of classes from all types of ethnic cuisine to themed dessert classes. It's also a fun way to bring a group of friends to and participate in. You don't even have to be a vegan and/or vegetarian to enjoy these dishes. Just have an open mind. :) Check out their website for healthy plant-based cooking classes, health and wellness coaching for individual clients and groups who are seeking healthier eating and more balanced lifestyles, monthly programs as well as talks, workshops and cooking classes. They even sell products such as the Saladmaster, which has been shown to be the best method for cooking. Here's more information: http://conscious-cook.com/saladmaster/ You are what you eat. I am a true believer of that. If you want to live a long and healthy life, having a healthy diet is the first step. In my opinion, plant based nutrition has been the most impactful and beneficial lifestyle for me. The food is amazingly delicious and that in turn affects my mood and overall well-being. I have never felt more energetic, youthful, and vibrant. 'The Conscious Cook' gets my thumbs up ! It's a business that I support and know people can learn and benefit from. They are really passionate about what they do and it shows in their food. So grab a group of friends or fly solo and attend a class. Get VEGUCATED peeps ! :)

The BTK experience is great for anyone...a first time visitor or someone who knows wine and the valley because Chris personalizes the experience. We took the all-day tour that included lunch for $179 and it was worth every cent. We took ourselves on an excursion the next day and definitely felt Chris's absence as we got lost several times and were limited in what we could do and what we could learn from the experience. I look forward to booking our next trip.

You missed it! Jazz Artist Rose Mallet Featured This Evening…read more One of the best-kept secrets in any community is its community center. While many people think of exercise classes or meetings, these centers often host incredible cultural events at surprisingly affordable prices. That is exactly what I found at the La Jolla Community Center's summer concert series featuring jazz vocalist Rose Mallet. The evening was elegant without being pretentious. The concert lasted about 75 minutes and attracted a mature audience, though I couldn't help but think younger adults are missing out by not exploring the non-traditional venues. Tickets were very reasonably priced compared to many jazz performances around Southern California, making this an exceptional value.$30.00. The center also showcases artwork from local artists throughout the building, with many pieces available for purchase. A simple snack bar offers reasonably priced refreshments, with most items costing under $5. The venue is comfortable and accommodating, with plentiful restrooms, indoor seating on folding chairs, and spacious outdoor seating that includes large communal tables and smaller café-style tables. Seating is open, so arriving early is worthwhile. I arrived around 7:30 p.m. and had no trouble finding free street parking, though valet parking is also available. Most attendees dressed casually. As for me, I took the opportunity to dress like my fashionista self and the occasion is always worth it If you're looking for an inexpensive evening of live music, art, and community, don't overlook your local community center. Hidden gems like this are exactly why I enjoy exploring them. I'll definitely be back for another performance this summer. TIP: Sane day purchase is $5.00 more per ticket after 12 pm

The price quoted for this was a somewhat steep $375. To my wife's shock and amazement, this ballooned to $494 once our credit card was charged; not only tax, but 18% gratuity on the original excessive amount, was added. Within a few days we decided this was a bad idea overall, and phoned to cancel. After a few confusing telephone and email exchanges, my wife received email notification that they would retain 25% (approximately $125) as a cancellation fee! To date, we still have not come to a satisfactory resolution regarding our refund. Altogether it has been a very frustrating and time-consuming experience. Update: our credit card company issued us a credit for the full amount, and took matters into their own hands.

I was pretty excited because my friend told me that we were going to learn how to cook and have dinner at the Kitchen Art Studio. We learned how to make chicken empanaditas and seared scallops piccata with pasta, and just torch the sugar on the creme brulee since the creme brulee was already premade. We had some wine that we brought and they provided us with strawberry lemonade to drink. It was a fun experience however it is a bit pricey. For a large group we paid about ~$60-80 a person granted it was for a cooking lesson along with gratuity. There were about 15-20 of us and they could not split the check which ended up being a huge hassle since the bill was over a thousand and we had to put it on one card. I don't know whether or not I'd come back again since I think this place is intended for large parties but overall it was a good experience and the instructor was very friendly and informative.

They take great care of our baby and always create a warm and loving environment. We really appreciate their communication -- they provide daily updates and photos, which allow us to see what he is learning and how he is doing throughout the day. The classroom is spacious, clean, and well organized, and the outdoor playground is a wonderful space for children to explore, play, and develop new skills. The teachers plan many fun and educational activities, including singing, dancing, drawing, and other hands-on activities that help children learn and grow. They have also helped our baby build daily routines and become more independent. When our baby first started daycare, he had a hard time adjusting and often looked for comfort from the teachers by asking to be held. The teachers were always so patient and loving -- they would pick him up, comfort him, and provide the sense of security he needed while he was getting used to his new environment. They were also very understanding when he had difficulty sleeping on the toddler nap cot. Instead of forcing him to adjust right away, they first allowed him to nap in the infant classroom crib where he felt comfortable, and then gradually helped him transition to the toddler nap cot. Their patience, flexibility, and support made a huge difference. It has been wonderful to see his growth -- from struggling with daycare at the beginning to now happily walking into school every morning and coming home with a smile. We are truly grateful to have such loving teachers who care about our child's development and happiness. We highly recommend University City KinderCare to any family looking for a safe, caring, and nurturing daycare.

If you've never done rug tufting before, I recommend going for one of the smaller sizes, because it took me quite a long time to finish my "small" canvas. You send the staff designs ahead of time and they review it and confirm whether it's doable as a rug design. When we got to the studio, the designs had already been prepped at the stations. We got a quick lesson on how to use a tufting gun, got to pick our yarn colors, and got started! I actually found it to be pretty challenging, but at any point if you need help, the employees are super friendly and will assist you. Really fun, 10/10 experience! I would consider doing another one of their many crafts here, and the merch they have for sale is also a really good selection.

It's located in the mall toward the outer edge, so it's actually really easy to access once you park, which was nice. We did decoden art and got to decorate a photo frame, a mirror, and a keychain. The lady working there showed the kids how to get started and explained what to do, and then it was really up to them to get creative! They could go back and forth and choose from all the different little charms and decorations they wanted to use. There were SO many to choose from, which made it even more fun. The whole experience took us about an hour to an hour and a half from start to finish, and the kids got to take home their own unique pieces of art that they created themselves. This is such a cute place with so many different types of crafts to choose from. Even if you're not there to do a craft, they have lots of adorable things you can buy as well. I would definitely recommend Tutu Fun if you enjoy decoden art, crafts, or just want something fun and relaxing to do. It's a great activity for kids, birthdays, or even just a creative day out. We had a great time and I would definitely come back!
