I attended a Vegan meetup here and was introduced to a live demo of 'Plant Based Nutrition for Cancer Prevention.' The owner, Sadie King and vegan chef and Health Coach, Landry Fuller prepared easy, flavorful dishes that were full of vitamins and antioxidants to keep your immune system strong and your body healthy. This was a great event to attend for those who want to try and change their diet and improve their health. We learned how cancer can be prevented by making smarter food choices including nutrient-rich fruits, vegetables, fiber, herbs and spices. 'The Conscious Cook' also offers an array of classes from all types of ethnic cuisine to themed dessert classes. It's also a fun way to bring a group of friends to and participate in. I follow him on Facebook and appreciate that he doesn't Spam his followers like other celebrities are wont to do. Sam the Cooking Guy genuinely appreciate his fans and tells them so! Now all over the airwaves in a Cox Cable commercial, taking over Costco with various book signings, appearing on morning radio shows or doing cooking segments on TV shows-Sam the Cooking Guy is the man! Don't forget his kitschy little cooking show! It's also nice that he is a friendly and unassuming and makes cooking and BBQ-ing look so easy and painless. When you watch his cable channel show, it looks like Sam just opens his frig and throws together whatever is handy. Sam the Cooking Guy DEMYSTIFIES the fine art of cooking. He also does that in the classes he teaches at SD Kitchen & Bath. I've been here a few times for their cooking classes. It's a really neat layout -a few long tables…read moreset up , class room style i guess. The classes never seem over packed and it's a really cozy environment to learn how to cook. There's a full kitchen that the chef instructor utilizes for the class. There are lots of flat screen TVs that are up high so that everyone in class can see what the instructor is preparing. In the classes I've been to, everything the chef preps, the students get to sample - and i mean these are BIG samples. They have ppl actually serving you plates of what is being taught how to make! AND they also serve sample wines with the sample dishes. It's really a good deal, especially w/ this current economy. I think the classes now are at $49. But again, it comes w/ food and wine :) And everyone there is so friendly.

While many people think of exercise classes or meetings, these centers often host incredible cultural events at surprisingly affordable prices. That is exactly what I found at the La Jolla Community Center's summer concert series featuring jazz vocalist Rose Mallet. The evening was elegant without being pretentious. The concert lasted about 75 minutes and attracted a mature audience, though I couldn't help but think younger adults are missing out by not exploring the non-traditional venues. Tickets were very reasonably priced compared to many jazz performances around Southern California, making this an exceptional value.$30.00. The center also showcases artwork from local artists throughout the building, with many pieces available for purchase. A simple snack bar offers reasonably priced refreshments, with most items costing under $5. The venue is comfortable and accommodating, with plentiful restrooms, indoor seating on folding chairs, and spacious outdoor seating that includes large communal tables and smaller café-style tables. Seating is open, so arriving early is worthwhile. I arrived around 7:30 p.m. and had no trouble finding free street parking, though valet parking is also available. Most attendees dressed casually. As for me, I took the opportunity to dress like my fashionista self and the occasion is always worth it If you're looking for an inexpensive evening of live music, art, and community, don't overlook your local community center. I believe this is my first time watching an opera live. They all seem so lovely. They have a concession stand with drinks and snacks. The community center also has art around the building.
