"The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form…read moreof poison." Ann Wigmore 'The Conscious Cook' is a wonderful establishment where they offer live cooking classes that not only educates you about eating healthy, but also introduces you to a whole new world of foods. I attended a Vegan meetup here and was introduced to a live demo of 'Plant Based Nutrition for Cancer Prevention.' The owner, Sadie King and vegan chef and Health Coach, Landry Fuller prepared easy, flavorful dishes that were full of vitamins and antioxidants to keep your immune system strong and your body healthy. This was a great event to attend for those who want to try and change their diet and improve their health. We learned how cancer can be prevented by making smarter food choices including nutrient-rich fruits, vegetables, fiber, herbs and spices. 'The Conscious Cook' also offers an array of classes from all types of ethnic cuisine to themed dessert classes. It's also a fun way to bring a group of friends to and participate in. You don't even have to be a vegan and/or vegetarian to enjoy these dishes. Just have an open mind. :) Check out their website for healthy plant-based cooking classes, health and wellness coaching for individual clients and groups who are seeking healthier eating and more balanced lifestyles, monthly programs as well as talks, workshops and cooking classes. They even sell products such as the Saladmaster, which has been shown to be the best method for cooking. Here's more information: http://conscious-cook.com/saladmaster/ You are what you eat. I am a true believer of that. If you want to live a long and healthy life, having a healthy diet is the first step. In my opinion, plant based nutrition has been the most impactful and beneficial lifestyle for me. The food is amazingly delicious and that in turn affects my mood and overall well-being. I have never felt more energetic, youthful, and vibrant. 'The Conscious Cook' gets my thumbs up ! It's a business that I support and know people can learn and benefit from. They are really passionate about what they do and it shows in their food. So grab a group of friends or fly solo and attend a class. Get VEGUCATED peeps ! :)

She coordinated the menu with us before we left the East Coast. We made Alvacado hummus rainbow slaw salad, Thai Stry Fry, and Superfood Truffles. Had a great time at this virtual cooking class for virtual work offsite. We did the dumpling making…read moreclass. The class was supposed to be an hour but we went over by about 15-20 minutes. As a very very infrequent chef, I thought the pace and teaching of the class was good. My partner was impressed which says a lot. We learned to make everything from scratch from the dough to the filling. The pre-class prep is very important especially to get the class going on time for you! The prep work in chopping up the ingredients was around 20-25 min, but much faster if you have a food processor. The other kit that was shipped was packaged nicely and some ingredients given were measured to exactly what we needed. During the call you'll make ~6-8 dumplings but the ingredients and the prep you'll do can make around ~32 dumplings so expect to have some time after the video call with finish wrapping! I cooked about 8 more and then made the rest of the dumplings and stored in the freezer! Over, a fun time!!

She made a point to make sure all of us were active and involved throughout the entire process despite being virtual. I've never made dumplings before and wow. My respect for those who do it on a regular basis went wayyyy up. These babies are truly a labor of love. But wow did I feel accomplished after getting the hang of it! We made them from scratch, dough and all. Chef Krong walked us through every step of the way. I never felt lost or behind because she was constantly checking in on us. They tasted delicious, and I was so proud of myself by the end of it. Thank you for a great afternoon of learning something new, Krong!!

Unfortunately, the baking program did not provide the foundation I expected. We did not have proper instruction in basic sanitation, food safety, knife skills, or kitchen safety, which I found to be a major red flag. This should be emphasized from the beginning. I also noticed poor practices regarding cross-contamination and uniform hygiene that were not addressed. I did learn a few things during my time in the program, but overall, I felt like I was mostly thrown into the kitchen and expected to figure things out as I went. Having only one instructor responsible for everything made it difficult to receive the individual attention, instruction, and attention to detail that students need. There were times when I felt like I was not receiving a proper culinary education or learning the professional terminology and techniques that I should have been learning. The teacher would also often leave the class because he didn't buy the ingredients we need or the ingredients we had were expired. I entered this program excited to build a strong foundation in baking and develop the skills necessary to work professionally in the culinary industry. Unfortunately, the education and structure I experienced did not meet those expectations. I believe the program needs stronger instruction in sanitation, food safety, kitchen safety, foundational techniques, professional terminology, and proper industry standards. Overall, my experience was disappointing, especially considering how excited I was to finally begin my culinary education.

I was extremely disappointed we didn't actually cook anything. Everyone was very nice but my expectations for a $100 + cooking class per person were not met considering we didn't cook anything. I was handed a packet with all the recipes for the food we were "making". The first recipe was the crab rangoon except all we did was stuff the wonton wrappers and actually put it together. Same with the bao buns. At no point were the porcupine meatballs even a thing. They were made prior, mentioned, and put on our plates. Everything was made in advance. So I paid to fill wonton wrappers and get printed out recipes I could find online. Also, we weren't even going to get to stuff the bao buns. They were going to have a group of people do each thing - 1 to stuff the buns and the other crab Rangoon except I said I wanted to do the buns too so everyone got to do a couple. Honestly the food was bland except for the bao buns. I won't be using their recipes. Truely disappointed and feel like I was swindled out of money. They should be more forthcoming about what this "cooking class" entails. It's not actually cooking.
