Our culinary and wine tour with Chris lived up to the hype! Everything was so well organized and Chris was an incredible tour guide!!! The wineries, food and tapas were all excellent and the wineries themselves were beautiful! We felt like VIPs at all the wineries and I couldn't choose one favorite since I liked them all! Can't wait to try other tours with Baja Test Kitchen! Thank you Chris for making my birthday trip a very memorable one!! Highly recommend!!!!

My mother & I did a private tour with Jen & Chris and were BEYOND impressed. Their selections for our itinerary, the relationships they have with everywhere we went, and their knowledge of the Valle far exceeded our expectations. We tasted some of the best wine with the owners of the wineries themselves, dined on fresh and innovative cuisine, and overall just enjoyed each other's company. As a Travel Advisor, I would recommend Baja Test Kitchen to any of my clients in a heartbeat and have full confidence that they would have the best time. Although we did a private tour, I would love to try one of their public tours that leaves from the San Ysidro border sometime - there have such a wide variety!

Best way to see the Valley! First of all, being picked up at our home in San Diego, was an unexpected, and pleasant surprise from a tour operation. Door to door service - nice! My husband booked a Day trip so we could check out the Valley before we go down there this summer, for the first time, for a friend's wedding. Thanks to Chris, we most definitely got the lay of the land. Being that we were more interested in food than wine, Chris tailored the trip for us. We started with a visit to a working livestock ranch whose dairy cows produce a variety of delectable cheeses to the booming restaurant and winery scene in the Valley. I was in heaven. We even bought olive oil, produced on the ranch, at a fraction of what it would cost in the USA. Our day included 2 wineries, each unique and so picturesque. I am not very knowledgeable about wine and Chris really helped educate me; no snobbery just appreciation. He's American, but bilingual and his translations were really helpful. When we had our midday meal, at one of the best restaurants in the Valley, we let Chris do all the ordering. First he asked our preferences and how adventurous of diners we were. We were delighted with his choices. Even his dessert choice! We just got to relax and enjoy the day, being driven around in the comfort of his Land Rover (immaculately clean) as he shared his knowledge and connections in the Valley. We went into the day with no expectations and were blown away by how much we saw and did in just a few hours.

Thank you for the excellent experience we had on our first trip to the Guadalupe Valley. I honestly was a skeptic of the wine quality, however, no longer...the wines were superb. Far better than most wines in Temecula, for example. Highlights of the trip for our four person private tour included: - BTK's Excellent website and FAQ, allowed us to prepare with minimal anxiety - Prompt and responsive service to our numerous questions on passports, travel, cuisine and wines...thank you Chris - We'll take Jen as our guide any-time. She is great company, very knowledgeable and put up with us for a full day - Traveling in the Range Rover was much appreciated over a van or vehicle...thank you - Personal touches, visits with the winemakers, made us feel like VIP's or insiders, not just tourists - The access to additional tastings/reserve wines, including Las Nubes, Vena Cava and especially at Chateau Camou was memorable - Lunch at Finca Altozano was terrific...I dreamt of the Pato with the black mole yesterday... Only downside is that we are only allowed 1 litre each to bring home by U.S. customs...but we will buy more now that we know where to find Baja wines in San Diego. Your service is also a great value, for example, comparing the BTK one day trip for 2 from San Diego vs. a one day trip to Santa Ynez valley (Santa Barbara). Until our next trip with Baja Test Kitchen...

We started out at the Our Lady of the Rosary Church for the history of the Italians coming to San Diego. It was stunning the day after Christmas and some of the Pastors were there too. Then we went through The Piazza to Davanti's where we had a cocktail, Pizza, Bruschetta and Ricotta cheese toast with honey ... SO YUMMY!!! We stayed here a bit long for all this food but they accommodate me having a pine nut allergy which was very nice. Then onward to Landini's (the upstairs restaurant) where we had meatballs and pancetta with mozzarella with a little red wine ... again incredible!! We were late for our last stop before dessert so he improvised in the best way possible and Monello's accommodated our party of 11 with a liqueur, bread with shaved amazing cheese then the mist heavenly lemon cheese homemade pasta stirred together in a cheese wheel. We were stuffed by this point but then we had dessert. Salunto bakery and gelato. I had coconut gelato. What a great night. We got history, a beautiful walk and the most food I've ever had on a food tour. Excellent job!!!

It is ALOT of food (and one stop was just cocktails!). You won't go hungry. We highly recommend giving TastePro a try! The Detailed Review: TastePro is a year-around version of restaurant week. You book a tour, which includes a prefixed menu and multiple reservations. I note reservation, because the full-service stops, don't want to loose a table during the dinner rush. For our North Park Tour (on a Saturday), Encontro required we arrive before 6PM or after 8:30PM. The other 3 stops didn't have time restrictions allowing us to swing by at any time. Each restaurant has a prefixed tasting menu that you should review when booking. The restaurants on our tour didn't have a printed "TastePro" menu, so I recommend knowing what you want before or having the menu page readily available on your phone. ProTip: Half way though I took screenshots of the prefixed menus. It was easier than scrolling and switching between screens. When we arrived at our fist stop, we told the hostess we were here for a TastePro tour. She looked at us confused (we were worried for a hot second) but she asked a more experienced co-worker who knew how to handle our reservation. We shared our email confirmation (date and party size) and a photo ID that matches the name on the reservation. We had zero hiccups, just a note that you may need to talk to a seasoned employee as this is a newer service. We were quickly seated and ordered our tasting meal. Our reservation included drinks (you can preorder 1 drink per individual) at an incredible value. Our preordered wine allowed us to select any glass of wine on the menu. The food was amazing. At Encontro we had the Hot Fresh Bread, Mini Corndog, Portobello Fries, & Crispy green beans; at 619 Spirits, we each ordered a flight of cocktails; at Crazee Burger, the Pastrami Slider with a side of Onion Rings & the Caesar salad with a side of sweet potato fries; at Figaro Dessert Cafe, the Signature House made Nutella Crepe *OMG*, and two scoops of Gelato. SO MUCH FOOD. And did I mention it was all amazing? After enjoying your meal, you just get up and leave. It was a strange feeling to leave a full service restaurant without paying (you already paid!). At the same time, prepaying was freeing and makes visiting multiple restaurants a breeze! In Summary, TastePro is provides an incredible dining adventure at an extraordinary value (how often can you put put those words in the same sentence!?!). My fiancee and I were over the moon with our TastePro experience and highly recommend to anyone who loves great food and is looking for a new adventure. Cheers!

This was, hands down, the best walking tour we've done, and we do these regularly around the world. We met our guide, Blerta (aka B) under the Gaslamp sign, and promptly started our tour. Our first Bites and Booze stop was at Meze Greek Fusion, were we sampled sangria and an interesting Greek quesadilla (sounds strange, yet it worked). We learned a bit about the company that owns Meze, and then continued our tour through the Gaslamp, learning a ton about its history. Our second stop was at Double J's BBQ, where we enjoyed an in-house lager and a pork belly taco. For those who "know" BBQ, and think that there's no way a BBQ joint works in CA, of all places...think again. This was damned good. We continued our tour, again learning more about the history of the Gaslamp. Let me interject here and say that Blerta was a fountain of information, delivered in a way that you can tell she loves doing these tours. Our third stop was The Field - an Irish restaurant that we've visited in the past (when one is married to an Irish woman, you can sort of expect that). It's always fun to walk through the restaurant, where the decor is over 100 years old. We tried an Irish Mule (go figure) and a Shepard's Pie. For me, the bite wasn't my thing...but then, I'm not Irish. Our last stop was a stunner - Cali Cream. I'm not a sugar person, so rarely have ice cream. But Blerta gave us the rundown on how they make the ice cream every morning, so when it was time to place my sample order, I went with Rocky Road (truly the Champaign of ice cream, IMHO). My wife with with Pistachio. The samples were HUGE, and incredibly delicious (easily the best Rocky Road I've ever had). Bottom line, GREAT way to spend an afternoon exploring the history of the Gaslamp (who knew there were so many brothels in Gaslamp in the 1800s?) The booze and bites selections were well done, Blerta was simply awesome, and we'll definitely be giving So Diego Food Tours another go. HIGHLY recommended.
