I had a dental bridge and two crowns done by Dr. Abittan @ Evergreen Family Dental. Dr. Abittan took the time to put in a temporary bridge, so she could get my feedback about bite, fit and color shading before installing the permanent one. She gave me conisderation as a person with allergies regarding the adhesive used for the permanent bridge, to ensure I would not have post installation reactions. Her office staff was knowledgable and responsive throughout the multi-month process, including timely submittal of pre-estimates to my dental insurance company. I am very pleased with the final results and give a 5 Star recommendation to this practice. This office wasn't the right fit for me. My biggest concern was my interaction with the dentist (I believe her name was Dr. Aimee). I let her know upfront that I have a severe fear of needles. Instead of focusing on how we could work around that, she repeatedly told me that I should consider therapy. She also told me that my fear of needles--and even pain--is "all in my mind" and that I need to learn to separate what's happening in my brain from what I'm feeling in my body. Hearing that once would have been one thing, but she repeated it several times. Eventually I became emotional and politely asked her to stop because the conversation itself was making my anxiety worse. At that point, she appeared visibly frustrated, ended the exam, and referred me elsewhere, saying I would be better served by a provider who could offer "safe" dental care because I was "not safe" due to my fear of needles and pain. What made this especially disappointing is that several members of my family see this dentist and have told me she is usually very patient with people who struggle with dental anxiety and fear of needles. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I can tolerate needles and painful procedures when I'm treated with patience, empathy, and respect. What I struggled with was having therapy repeatedly suggested while I was already in a vulnerable position. I came in looking for dental care, not a psychological evaluation. The reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because the rest of the staff was kind and professional. They were apologetic when their X-ray equipment wasn't working properly, which required removing and repositioning the sensor several times. They handled that situation as well as they could. My issue wasn't with the staff--it was with how I felt dismissed and judged by the dentist. If you have dental anxiety or a fear of needles, I think it's important to know that experiences may vary significantly depending on how your concerns are addressed- and maybe the mood of the dentist. My interactions with Dr. Aimee Abittan have been on 7th Street, not in her office. I have watched her let her dogs poop on the public easement; she doesn't pick it up. Her dogs would not leave me alone. She had no leashes or voice control over her animals. She screamed at me when I held up my pepper spray. Staff told me that the dentist was the dog owner when I showed them the picture. Aimee apparently has few concerns over hygiene because she won't even pick up her dogs excrement. I agree that walking back into a dental office with a bag of dog poop would not smell good, but certainly she could bag it and leave it by her car. The dogs stay in the office according to other tenants. I have contacted the NV Board of Dental Examiners about the dogs in her office. Has she even followed the protocol required for service animals in dental offices? She recognized me speaking with her staff, yet refused to discuss this with me. But she stood out front of the building yelling at me because I asked her to leash her dogs. Her lack of interest in complying with the law is disturbing. I could never trust that her office is hygienic or in compliance with other laws, since she evidently picks and chooses which laws to comply with. It will be interesting to learn what the Dental Board thinks of this. You can't walk into many businesses with a pet dog. Only service dogs are allowed. Yet this is a DENTAL office and these are pets that are allowed in daily. I did hear back from the state. If the dogs are in the operating area, that it is something the Board would look into. I was lucky enough to be allowed to join this family dentistry establishment and I am very impressed. Dr Abittan is so competent, informative and professional with a truly warm nature. I was truly impressed by her attitude and welcoming me as a new patient. I also got an appointment one day later for a cleaning which amazed me I expected to wait a few weeks. THEY LIED ABOUT THE HEALTH OF MY TEETH! Please be wary of this dental office! I am a college student who wanted to get a cleaning done and found Evergreen and thought that most of the reviews looked good. I make an appointment for an exam as they can't do a cleaning unless there is an exam and they can't do both of them same day. Ok, some doctors offices are like that. First red flag was when I schedule with a Dr Chu but then get a confirmation email for a Dr Platt. I had checked the website and there was no Dr Platt in this office so I thought. Anyways, they call me asking for dental insurance before I arrive or they wouldn't be able to charge my card. Ok fine, sent the information over and arrived 20 minutes early to my appointment to fill out any other paperwork needed. Front desk lady was cordial but not overly friendly but I was looking for a good dentist. I am made to wait another 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment time before being called back by a very sweet dental assistant who took my X-rays. Afterward she told me that the doctor would be by shortly. After 20 minutes she came back and moved me to another room, where I then waited about another 25 minutes. I get the office can be busy but I wasn't told "oh sorry about the wait he should be by shortly" what did happen was another staff member came into the room i was in, rummaged around the drawers and then left without ever so much as a look or word to me. I was shocked as this has never happened to me before. I understand being busy but not communicating anything kinda freaked me out. Anyways, doctor Chu finally comes into the room and without introduction asks me my name and then asks me to open my mouth. He does the exam all the while calling out teeth numbers, and it takes about 5 minutes before I being sat up. He asks me how long it's been since my last dentist appointment and I admitted haven't been in over a year. Which is bad I know but I'm very carful in my hygiene. Doesn't matter as he says I have 9 cavities! I was horrified and thought my mouth was disgusting. He tells me they are urgent but we should schedule your appointment to fill them all. I tell him and the front desk lady when I get up there that I have to speak with my dad about it. The front desk lady seemed to be weirded out that I wanted to wait but eventually relented and I got the treatment plan to keep on file and it came out to a little over 2k. I went home for the summer and got an appointment to clean my teeth with the dentist that I usually saw, again still haven't had my teeth cleaned and I didn't have time to get them done in Reno by this point. But I got to that office and I tell them about it and the hygienist is like your teeth look really health. The doctor comes in and I tell him and give him the treatment plan and he looks the teeth over. I HAVE NO CAVITIES. He tells me that I have some places that could use a sealant but if I had gotten the "cavities" filled that Evergreen family dental would have been drilling into perfectly healthy teeth. I am disgusted at the fact that a dental office feels comfortable doing this to a person. I wonder what they would have done had I scheduled the filling appointment, I am great full that I have another dentist I can go to but many people do not. Dr. Platt is a good dentist who seems to be completely out of touch with how his office staff treats his patients... I have been a patient of Dr Platt's for the past 7 or 8 years until yesterday. I had an appointment for a procedure on Wednesday April 26th after waiting three weeks from a follow up visit for a previous issue. Note, I have dental insurance and had given his staff my group # and iD for previous services but had not received a new card. This is my very first yelp review and rather than tell my side of the story, I'll just share the text exchange I had with his office staff. Scott, this is Dr. Platt's office reminding you of your 10 AM appointment this Wednesday, April 26. Please don't forget to bring in your dental insurance card. Also please text back to let us know you will be here. Thank you. Me: Yes, this is my plan. How much will the entire procedure cost? DO U STILL HAVE DENTAL INSIRANCE? Me: What difference does it make? $1357.00 Me: Thank you. Was there some reason you texted me in all caps? (Note: After this question was asked, no response for over 15 minutes...) Me: UNPROFESSIONAL! Scott, this is Shelley at Dr. Platts office, our staff got together and since you feel we are unprofessional we feel it's time that you find another dentist. We will cancel your Wednesday appointment. We are sorry you put us in this position. Me: Hi Shelly, your whole staff is not unprofessional, just you. I will be personally contacting Dr. Platt. Me: Or is this Debbie? Me: Please have Dr. Platt call me. If I do not receive a call back by 2:pm. I will stop by in person. Thank you. (11:50 am) At 1:30 pm Dr. Platt did return my call and proceeded to accuse me of harassing his staff. I asked him if he had read our text exchange and he said he had and that his office staff had told him they inadvertently had their CAPS lock on while texting? For everyone who uses texts in business, how do you inadvertently turn on your Caps lock? Obviously Dr Platt's staff lied to him about "CAPS lock" or he knew himself I was being truthful and rather than apologize for his staffs poor behavior he chose to lose a patient. I'm guessing Dr. Platt does not understand what effort a person, or staff member has to do IN ORDER TO SEND A TEXT IN ALL CAPS WITH A MOBILE DEVICE? DR PLATT, CAN YOU SENSE MY FRUSTRATION NOW? You may want to have a staff meeting regarding communications between staff and patients... maybe focus on basic texting etiquette, courtesy, kindness, and professionalism. I have formally requested copies of my medical records. I am seeking another Dental office to perform the major procedure I was told was needed to be repaired right away... I decided to use my dental insurance and book an appointment with Dr. Platt's office 6 months out after my cleaning (which I paid for out of pocket). When I finally go into the office Dr. Platt was thorough and spent a lot of time looking at my x rays and talking about my teeth. Then it was over. No cleaning. I was like wait, I booked this over 6 months ago and both he and Maryanne (front staff) acted like I should of known this. NEVER have I NOT gotten a cleaning after the doc Looked at my teeth and I felt it was extremely un-professional. Then I had to go on a cancellation list to get my cleaning---not only was this stressful BUT I was due for a cleaning and didn't have an appointment till February 2022. i then called Maryanne to have my new picture they took of my teeth sent back to my old dentist and she said she had an 8:00 am appointment for me for Wednesday. I wrote it down and felt excited that I actually got an appointment. I showed up today and was told it was last Wednesday in a snarky tone again by front staff and that I missed it. I'm an intelligent woman and NOT knowing that a cleaning wasn't included in my first visit AND not showing up on my appointment date is not how I roll. The communication with front staff is poor and the head woman isn't friendly. I do not recommend this dentist agency and Dr. Platt needs to rethink how he wants to be represented. A recommendation from my best friend led me to Dr. Platt's office. Warm staff, inviting office space, hygienists that are calm, caring, and craftspeople of their trade. Then there is Dr. Platt, warm, reassuring, full of detailed explanations. He offers alternatives, prescriptive paths to treatment and is literally the most humane person to have DDS after their name.
