I absolutely love Dr. Banks DDS office. I've had lots of dental work done over the years and have never gone to such a knowledgeable and kind dentist. I love that he can "print" a cap in his office. Disclaimer: I hate going to the dentist. I HATE it. To me, it's like willingly signing up to be tortured. I'm not going to lie -- going to see Dr. Banks sucked. Going to see ANY dentist sucks. But, this was probably the least sucky dental experience I've ever had and I have multiple crowns, bridges, and implants. Dr. Banks was kind and patient even when I cried and took 20 breaks during treatment. It is immediately clear that he is super well-trained and knowledgeable. I looked into his background and he actually graduated with honors from the University of the Pacific Dental School, one of the top dental schools in the nation. He also has a gentle touch which is important in his line of work. His office staff is super courteous and on top of it. I was able to get an appointment as a new client right away. They called me back when they were supposed to and were flexible with payment options. There was zero problem or judgement with having to postpone work until next calendar year so that my insurance would kick in again. As someone with tons of experience with multiple dentists across different states, I can unequivocally recommend Dr. Banks and his team. I had not stepped foot in a dental office for almost a decade, and I underwent a complicated extraction (broken & infected wisdom tooth). I can not say enough good things about Dr. Banks and his team!! I walked in there this morning (a new patient) with a toothache so intense I couldn't sleep last night. They diagnosed the issue and then had me come back tonight. He stayed late to get my tooth fixed and a new crown made. Amazing! They have the most current technology - digital xrays that showed the problem (that the old film xrays did not show yesterday at my previous dentist's) - they design and make the crowns onsite, so only 1 visit and you're set - comfort menu so you feel comfortable and pain free. This dentist was wonderful. He was thoughtful, knowledgeable and professional. Best part is that he's young and up on all the modern techniques. If I had started seeing him earlier, I might have avoided a couple of root canals. Even the cleaning was amazing. They were using all kinds of new tools to clean the teeth more efficiently. He replaced cap and a couple filings, and my teeth look great. He takes the time to answer questions and explain things thoroughly He has a very warm and friendly personality. If I could give more than 5 stars I would! First off, I came from a crappy dentist in San Francisco who gave me a crown using a technique from the 1950's and then kept "finding" issues in my mouth that would run me well over $1,500. I was referred to Dr. Banks and let's just say I am bummed it took me so long to go see him. I live in the East Bay and have absolutely no problem making the trip to Novato to visit. His staff is SO friendly, warm, welcoming, I mean what else could you ask for? Dr. Banks took a look at my teeth and made me feel so much better. His practice is extremely modern which made me very comfortable. He explains every single piece of work that he will be performing and made sure to check in with me throughout the entire process. Today, I had two fillings replaced and I was in and out in less than an hour! Not to mention, their pricing is SO FAIR. I couldn't believe it. I initially found Dr Bank's, a.k.a. "Jake" by comparing my "Approved Dentist" list from my insurance company to his Yelp reviews. Since then I have had 3 visits and my experience has been the same every time...very pleasant and not at all intimidating. He really focuses on comfort. The practice even have a "comfort menu", which I strongly recommend. I think you will find Jake and his team very forthright and actually enjoyable people to know. There's no BS or heavy-handed up-selling of products and services. One thing that i appreciate about any dentist is the use of digital x-rays and other technology...They have it all. In fact, he was even able to design and MAKE my crown in his office while I was there. 1 visit = 1 Crown. There was no "temporary crown" and another appointment in 2 weeks to get the real one fitted like in other practices. One of the first things Jake said to me is that visits to the Dentist don't have to be painful and scary. I recently chose Dr.J.Banks, after I did a thorough research on Yelp, and found nothing but the highest reviews for him and his practice. As a teenager, I wore corrective braces on my teeth for 4 years. I am a 60 year old woman and back then technology was not what it is today. Through the years, because of the poor technology, my teeth began to expose roots, which became very sensitive to acidic fruits like pineapple and to cold beverages. I also had 20 year old veneers on my two front teeth. When I met with Dr.Banks, I was interested in getting veneers on all of my bothersome front teeth, since that is the surest long term treatment for my condition. My first impression of Dr.Banks was that he stood up to all of his positive Yelp reviews. He was caring, a good listener, and genuinely interested in meeting my needs. His entire staff, could not be a nicer or more welcoming group of people. It felt like the joint focus of this practice, was to provide the best service and to be the most accommodating and helpful to the patient. After meeting with Dr.Banks, I made the decision to have all 10 front teeth covered with veneers. I also wanted to replace the original 20 year old veneers on my front teeth. I applied for Care Credit. The practice contracts for two years at no interest. That is a huge bonus! I met again with Dr.Banks to go over the details of the procedure. We discussed exact cosmetic proportions and design of the teeth, and Dr.Banks suggested a more feminine shape to the two front teeth, which I found to be very helpful advice. I felt like Dr.Banks gave me as much time as I needed to be confident and sure that we were on the same page and that my specific desires were noted and would be executed. Dr.Banks explained the medications and sedatives that were available for my comfort, since the whole procedure would take 4-5 hours per two separate visits. Because I am disabled and am on pain medications, Dr. Banks and his staff took the time to research all of my medications and their compatibility to the sedative medications that are standardly given for such a lengthy procedure. It turned out that because of the pain medications that I am on, it would not be safe or advisable for me to take the standard sedation medications. Dr.Banks assured me that he would do his best to make me comfortable with nitrous gas and frequent brakes. I was a bit anxious about the nitrous gas, because I had a dentist give it to me in the past and it did not go well! But under the circumstances, I was willing to give it a try. The day before my oral surgery, I cracked a crown next to the last tooth that was scheduled to get a veneer. The morning of the surgery, Dr. Banks examined the crown, and told me "No Problem" he would fix it that day, even though it was not part of the planned procedure. Dr.Banks and his assistant nurse, could not be more accommodating and helpful about making me as comfortable as possible with lumbar and neck pillows and blankets. Dr. Banks explained everything that he was going to do and told me that I could ask for a break anytime I needed one. Dr.Banks explained that he would start up the nitrous very slowly and gradually go up until I reached the comfortable effects. Even though I had a very bad experience with a previous dentist, who had just cranked it up to high, Dr.Banks took his time and the nitrous ended up being a very pleasant and relaxing experience. Dr.Banks explained that he would warm up the needle before injecting my gums with lidocaine, because that would decrease the pain. No dentist has ever done that! Dr.Banks' technique was the absolute best! The lidocaine injections were the most painless and most pleasant, considering what a large area had to be numbed. Dr. Banks should patent his injection technique for the least painful and non eventful! Since this was going to be a long 4+ hour ordeal, I asked Dr.Banks to entertain me and tell me about his recent wedding and honeymoon trip. Dr.Banks was wonderfully obliging with his narration, as he worked on my teeth. I felt like I was visiting with an old friend, with whom I had much to catch up on. Through the entire surgery, I felt pleasantly relaxed on the nitrous and enjoying my spa like experience, as I listened to a very entertaining and lovely story. It made the time fly by very quickly and very enjoyably. I was given frequent brakes and I could not have had a more pleasant experience. In listening to Dr.Banks story, I developed a lot of respect for the kind of man that he is and what values he stands for. Dr.Banks is what you would call a very conscientious upstanding citizen with a real sense of giving to his community. I love the way my teeth came out! I now have a Hollywood smile! Dr. Jake Banks has joined a dental practice I am going to on my mission to fix my dental health, which is a major overhaul, and he has seen me a few times now. While I've always been given the best care and attention at this office, I am especially impressed by how comfortable Dr. Banks made me feel, taking time to talk and understand me, explain and answer all my questions, just have a chat. It's quite a rarity to have a doctor establishing relationship with a patient like this. ~Restored faith in dentistry~ Because of my previous traumatic experience with dentists, I was petrified to schedule the follow up appointment to have Dr. Banks replace an old cap and filling. I was so scared, I almost searched for another dentist, just so I could get my teeth cleaned and prolong the work that needed to be done. I remembered how much I enjoyed my experience with Dr. Banks and his office staff during that first initial visit so; I decided to go back and give him a try to actually conduct the work that needed to be done. I'm happy to report my appointment was today, and it was a great experience! Dr. Banks and his staff put me completely at ease. He and his assistant (my apologies for not remembering her name) kept asking me if I was ok. They spoke so kindly to me during the procedure and were mindful enough to explain each step along the way ensuring I was prepared and informed. Where I was once petrified and anxiety ridden with the thought of going to the dentist, I now look at going with a completely different perspective. I live in the city and drive to Navato just to see Dr. Banks at Dr. McConnell's Dentistry practice. Before I came to see him, I had not been to a dentist in a few years.. eek! I came in for a cleaning and Dr. Banks made me feel comfortable and at ease. He walked me through the steps and showed me exactly where there were cavities forming. He provided me with clear options and left it up to me. I had to come back at a later date to get some fillings and Dr. Banks and his office worked with my insurance to make sure I got the best coverage possible. My wife and I were very good customers of Dr Jake Banks but had to drop off because the Office staff was pretty bad and are not very knowledgeable when it comes to using Flex account/HSA accounts. I went for appointment and their was lot of ambiguity in their answers. They made me pay the cancellation fee even though I turned up to my appointment but could not go ahead with the treatment since they were unsure if my HSA card would pay it. I have seen lot of places where they give you a one time courtesy off but I did not like how the staff handled my situation. I just paid to get out of the office and I and my wife would never go back for treatments again. Dr Claudia was very knowledgeable but Its sad that I will have to leave Good doctor for the kind of business policies and staff they have in place which are definitely not customer friendly. read more

My accountant recommended Dr. Banks to me, I hadn't been in over 3 years ( ._.) -I know, I know- a combination of insurance issues, being scared of the dentist and, dare I say, laziness. But instead of the lecture I expected to get, Dr. Banks was totally understanding, very caring and made me feel like I wasn't an absolute delinquent. He is 100% about giving the best care to his patients and finding the right treatment plan. He explains everything he is doing in ways I can understand, is more than happy to answer aaaalllllll of my questions and backs up his methods with science and skill. I had three cavities and am terrified of needles, but he, and his dental assistant, Rebecca, made me comfortable throughout the process. They are welcoming, funny and professional. So far so good. I had not been to a dentist in a long time. These people did not freak out. They did not lecture me. They have not tried to upsell me a bunch of stuff I don't need at my age. Wait times have been short. Everyone has been efficient, professional, friendly, and calm about it all. I am always lulled by the friendly chatter I hear in the background as I am getting worked on. You can't fake that. I told Dr. Banks that I had never experienced pain-free dentistry. He made sure that my crown and filling were pain free -- except for the needles. They do use a topical before the needles. But I am sensitive to needles I guess. That's not their fault. They learned that about me pretty quick and have been very calm and steady about it. If you have ever been around nervous dentists or hygenists you will appreciate the distinction. read more

I moved to the area a little over two years ago and was totally worried about finding a new dentist. My mother and I have always had horrific experiences with going to the dentist, for me, even getting my teeth cleaned was enough to send me into a full panic attack. But I had to make the leap and find a new full time dentist and after a thorough Yelp search I decided to go with Dr. Banks and the Marin Center. Best health decision I have ever made! Not only was I immediately put at ease when I got there, but their level of customer service was amazing. After going through multiple procedures (not feeling a thing) I have come out having a completely different outlook on dentistry. I no longer panic at the thought of going to the dentist, they have completely changed my life. I cannot say enough great things about my experience with Dr Banks and his staff. I moved to Novato from Seattle so I did some research and he was right near me. I first went for cleanings and then advised that I had always wanted to do Invisalign. I had years of having crooked teeth and only getting worse. I just didn't feel like I could do anything since I was now in my 40's and the thought of getting "braces" felt so odd. Not only did Dr Banks set me at ease but he then explained EVERY step of the process with detail and what I was to expect and how to make the most of my Invisalign. He explained that he too had done them so he knew from experience what I was going through. I was told by one of the hygienists that I was one of their "longest" cases. (Over 1 year) I knew I would be. Which is why I always had a trepidation of doing anything at all. I'm here to tell you. PLEASE don't hesitate. Just start it and do it here. You will have ZERO regrets. My time with them was always greeted with kindness, empathy and grace. I have since moved twice and each time further away. I will keep them as my Dentist office no matter where I live! The day I arrived for my last invisalign (you can imagine my joy) which btw, my time was shortened by about 1 month because I worked so closely with Dr Banks to show him proof that I was committed to the process and that I was wearing them as recommended. I recently had a dental emergency the night before I needed to leave town for a work meeting. Of course, it would happen on a Saturday night eating dinner...I broke my front tooth and needed to get it repaired before I had to travel the next day. I called the office and Dr. Bank's was on call and offered to meet me at the office that night! I was amazed at his willingness to come in that fast and the fact that he cared that much to make sure I was going to be OK for my meeting. I was not in pain so we agreed to meet first thing Sunday morning. The break ended up being pretty bad and needed some extensive work so Dr. Banks used my existing tooth and built a temporary bridge w/ the surrounding teeth which was all he could do given the timing. I am happy to report the bridge held up and will be getting the final repair tomorrow. Dr. Banks went way beyond the call of duty. He does acceptional work and I would highly recommend him to anybody. read more
