I cannot say enough positive things about this wonderful, wonderful gem of a salon. The general feel and attitude of the place is very kind, very high quality, humble, professional, and welcoming. From the front desk staff to the owners to the stylists and the folks who wash your hair (and give absolutely amazing scalp massages). I have been going to Will Charles to get haircuts from Erik for the last 5+ years. I have since moved to Washington DC - and still - I will o n l y get my hair cut by Erik. He is that good. I would travel to the ends of the Earth to keep getting my hair cut by this magnificent, master-mind, prodigal artist. I had had so, sooo many terrible haircuts with an endless slew of various stylists before I came across Erik. He is quite possibly the most meticulous, detail-oriented, attentive, careful, skillful stylist that has ever lived. He is not just a stylist - he is truly an artist. And an incredible one. He has a depth of knowledge about hair that is mind-blowing - and has SUCH a phenomenal eye for design and detail. I have never walked out with anything less than a gorgeous, perfect, amazing haircut that has been EXACTLY what I wanted and asked for. I say this - and I am outlandishly picky and specific. I get compliments - not just the week afterward but MONTHS afterward - because his cuts grow out so beautifully. He is also the most wonderful human to talk with - genuine, intelligent, sincerely funny and engaging...all while artfully creating the most gorgeous, perfect haircut you will ever get in your life. All for $90. PURE. GOLD. I've tried to get myself to find a stylist here in DC...and I just can't. I'd rather wait the long wait until my next trip to Boston and get my perfect haircut from Erik than get one right away from anyone else. I visited Boston this weekend for my cousin's wedding and wanted to get my hair done for the ceremony. Since I wanted a specific style I researched some areas close to the hotel (Renaissance Waterfront) to see what they were like and if they could do what I wanted. When I spoke with Meghan she was extremely friendly and let me send a picture of a waterfall braid I wanted. She said that wouldn't be a problem at all and booked a reservation. When I arrived, I was 5 minutes late due to traffic and the exterior is undergoing construction so I was worried I was in the wrong spot at first. When I walked in, Victoria was waiting and was so friendly and gracious. She told me not to apologize for being late and made me feel at ease. When I sat down we went over the style again and when she finished 30 minutes later, she had done an amazing job! I loved my hair and received so many compliments throughout the evening. I was worried going to an out of state salon and not knowing the facility or stylist, but both exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend this salon and to see Victoria. She was great and if I ever need my hair done in this area again I will return to this facility! read more

Officially switching hair salons! The only reason I went to Will Charles in the first place was because I had a college coupon and figured I would take advantage of the opportunity before going back to the (cheap) salon I usually go to. But I'm definitely a convert. The salon is beautiful and everyone there was incredibly nice and everywhere I looked the stylists had a great attitude and spent a lot of time working with their clients. Scott was my stylist and he was absolutely amazing. He immediately offered me a cup of coffee and then took a whole ten minutes discussing what we were going to do. I was thinking about getting a pixie cut but was really nervous because I have a very round face. He spent the time going through picture I picked out on pinterest and pinning my hair back so I could get an idea of what it would look like. In the end I just decided to go for it. I'm so happy I did. Scott did an incredible job and spent a lot of time paying attention to the littlest details. He explained to me what he was doing and also the best way for me to style it by himself. His attention to detail is incredible. Also, the nicest man you'll ever meet. I've been going to this salon for 6 years and counting. I've had my hair colored with Billy the entire time (he is now owner of the salon with Erik) and been getting cuts/styling with Patrick for a little over a year. Obviously, if I've been going to the same salon and same stylists for the past 6 years, they are doing something right! Both of these guys are amazing and I recommend them whenever I can. Billy always gives me great blonde highlights but is also able to make them across as natural as possible. None of that brassy crap I've had in the past. Patrick always asks if I like the length he's taking off before he gets too far into the process to make sure he's giving me what I've asked for. He listens to what I have to say and really takes his career seriously. Billy and Patrick always make sure we're both on the same page when it comes to what I'm asking for and what they think I'm asking for. And they make sure I'm happy with the results before I leave. In terms of the salon as a business, it is a very organized and professional operation and I'm always taken on time. There is also very little turnover here so people actually get to know you! I went to Will Charles for the first time (based on yelp recommendations, thank y'all!), and could not be happier with my cut. Julia was amazing, she took my pathetic dry overgrown cut and brought my hair back to life. As I'm no longer a young chica, I'm always worried about getting a "mom cut" (augh!), especially when the stylist is a lot younger than I. No worries here, Julia gave me a stylish, soft cut based on my old one but what a difference - I think I actually gasped when I looked at the mirror. My hair just looked fantastic. And she zipped it done in 1/2 hour, I was amazed as my previous stylist would take forever. The salon itself is quiet and nice without a lot of added luxe - lots of nice light and open space. The people working there seemed happy and friendly (to each other! sometimes this is a miracle to find in a salon!). Overall, a home run as far as I'm concerned, I already booked my next appointment with Julia. Highly recommended. read more

Please do yourself a favor and schedule an appointment with Bri Klimas - she is innately a magician with color. I am a natural brunette and have always wanted to look naturally champagne blonde. I met Bri last fall after I abused Sun-In then had a horrible dye job at another salon that left me looking wildly brassy orange... Bri was fearless and spent 6 hours fixing it and used over 100 foils. She added dimension, toned it, did a treatment - and took her time. She approaches hair like an artist approaches a painting. She is intentional, skilled, listens to you and also provides expert direction (which I need!). She recommends shampoos and products for my hair - and never pressures me to buy anything or do any service. No one else will ever do my hair besides Bri! I even plan to bring in my boyfriend to see her :). Will Charles salon is lucky to have Bri as a hair stylist! read more

I have very curly hair, think thick telephone cord ringlets with frizz. I got my curls from my dad, so growing up my mom had no clue how to handle the curls...which basically lead to her making me keep my hair super short, resulting in a very prolonged awkward stage, and a bunch of photos that locked away. The main issue was that my mom did not realize that not all hair stylists understand curls, so I had a lot of bad experiences. Last year I went to Will Charles Salon and starting seeing Jenna and honestly she is the best hair dresser I've ever had. She is fantastic with curls. My hair was extremely unhealthy, and Jenna has gotten my hair back in shape with good cuts and great advice. Jenna is awesome, a total perfectionist! I found her name on Google after I got an AWFUL haircut from a popular local salon. The stylist used a razor, I'll so no more! I went to Jenna in hopes that she can even out what was left of my hair - it honestly looked like a child took scissors to the back. She gave me her honest opinion and we came up with a plan to help grow out the thinning and uneven layers. I had to take off another inch but she did such an amazing job working with a complete disaster. She is so precise with the scissors and uses techniques that work best for your hair ... I've seen her twice since and get compliments on my hair cut all the time! I went in for the first time on December 21st for a cut and color. It's very rare that you are completely satisfied with a haircut right after, but this was one of those cases. I loved my hair and immediately felt comfortable leaving the salon. I have a thick head of brown hair and I'm slowly going blonde to prevent damage. Mariana worked so patiently and attentively on my head that I'm convinced that's the key to successful bayalage. They're a bit pricy but that comes with being located right on Newbury Street. The quality of the services here also make the steep pricing worth it. Pro-tip: mention you are a first time client and you get a nice 20% off discount! I'll definitely be coming back. Clancy was AMAZING. I came in with long, tangled, out of shape hair wanting to just chop it off - into a blunt textured bob and she managed to work her magic, giving me exactly what I wanted! She is so patient and understanding, even when I wanted to cut an inch shorter after everything (curling etc.). Truly goes out of her way to make sure the customer leaves happy!!! I'm so so glad I found her thanks to everyone that has been raving. She was so careful with my hair, slowly going a little shorter every time just to make sure I was good with the length and you can tell she puts in a lot of effort. I brought my sister here for a wedding up-do consult and was very impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the cleanliness of the salon. Julia worked with my sister several weeks before the wedding to make sure she had the look she wanted and the results the day of the wedding were stunning. She did up-dos for the entire bridal party (myself included) and we all looked gorgeous, most especially my sister, whose style was soft and glamorous at the same time. Julia was professional, efficient and really wonderful to work with. I would absolutely recommend her for cuts and styles as she really makes sure to take into account what the client wants, and is creative and talented! I followed Hillary to Will Charles Salon and couldn't be happier. Hillary is nothing like the stereotypical Newbury St stylist. She is down to earth, friendly and a seriously awesome stylist. I've been tempted to go elsewhere due to prices and location but I just can't leave Hillary! The salon itself is clean and bright and I have NEVER had to wait more than 5 or 6 minutes for my shampoo. I am always hoping Kathy is around for my shampoo. She is great and doesn't go crazy with the scalp massage like some others do. First salon ever with comfy shampoo chairs and the black jackets they have for over your clothing are great. Roomy enough for us girls with junk in the trunk! Love this place. read more

Billie is the best hair colorist I have ever had. And I went to a bunch of high end salons. I have long hair medium to light brown and I like to get blonde highlights in a way that looks _natural_. This is not easy considering my hair is darker. Billie was the only one that created something I really liked. And all this while really caring for the health of my hair. Even after moving from Boston and trying new hair colorists in the Bay area, I did not find someone as good as him and I had to plan appointments with Billie whenever I was in Boston for a work trip. Jenna Garey saved my hair the day of my friend's wedding. I had gone to another salon on Newbury to a stylist who "specialized" in bobs and I left in tears. She basically chopped my hair straight across in the back and left the front long. I found Jenna online, and luckily she had a cancellation that day. I told her what I wanted my hair to look like and she was able to salvage it! I have been seeing here for almost a year, and she is amazing every time. She is realistic with my expectations, and is always happy to style and cut my hair how I want. My long bob is finally a reality. She also has a great personality. This place is the BEST. I've had two cuts and color here and each time I am so impressed. Victoria is the AMAZING!!! I had a seriously bad highlight job done yesterday from another salon (think platnum on dark brown...), and by today she turned my hair into beautiful, golden, shiny locks! Truly magic (maybe she's a hair-wizard?) She is very knowledgeable about cuts, texture and color and never pressures you in any particular direction.The receptionists are also always friendly and so helpful!
