I followed my stylist, Kayleigh Brogan, here from her last salon and I've since moved across the country. I still fly back to have her do my hair. I have never been anything other than extremely happy with my experience. Kayleigh is very talented and seems to understand exactly how I want my hair to behave. She's attentive to the fact that I don't style my hair so she tailors the cut to work for this. I'm always so happy to see her because I know I'll look great for months afterwards. I went to DC Samuel for the first time, since a lot of the closer salons I used to go to have now closed. They were great about appointment reminders and the place is right in the middle of Lexington commons so it's easy to get to. I only got a simple shampoo and cut but my stylist Casey was very respectful of my requests and checked in with me multiple times. The salon is small but very clean and bright and not loud, something I really appreciated. Most importantly, the price was incredibly affordable! I've never liked getting my hair cut. I've tried expensive places, I've tried cheap places and I usually came away reminding myself it will grow out. Eccoli is different. The staff is friendly. They send email reminders of appointments and go out of their way to make you comfortable. They're happy to chat, but if you're not in the mood, they take the hint and don't push it. Sam makes my curly hair look good. Equally important, he listens. He doesn't try to push products or make me look like his idea of what I should look like. It feels like we're a team. I am a longtime customer there and have every confidence that when I walk in, I will be listened to, advised, and treated with respect, walking away with a great cut and color! No matter the age you are, Eccoli has a stylist who you'll feel a rapore with... from young and punk and trendy to grandparents wanting to stay stylish yet traditional. The reason that they are so busy is that they are so good! I have long straight hair and have had it colored, cut (highlighted, keratin treated), and styled by Sam for years. I've changed things up over the years and he has always steered me away from mistakes I was about to make and suggested subtle changes that I've always been happy with. He is also an expert colorist and works magic with the subtle highlights I've requested. The few complaints I've just read are surprising to me as I have ALWAYS found all the front desk and styling staff to be very customer friendly and helpful. (I can't help but wonder if they're real complaints or set-ups from competing salons!) The Eccoli staff always calls to confirm appointments and in the many years I have been a client, I have never had the salon call to cancel an appointment on me. In fact, if they are running only 10 minutes late, I have received a call to let me know so I won't be sitting (which I actually don't mind doing as they have a nice, open space and a huge assortment of reading materials). I, like any other woman out there, TREASURE my hair and seeing it get cut terrifies me a little. After seeing some mixed reviews for Eccoli, I was sold on the fact their overall rating of 4 stars and the fact I desperately needed to do something about my splitting ends and fading highlights. I didn't want to chance my hair color with a salon since I have asian hair and.. well we just have weird hair. Anyways, I didn't have a problem setting up an appointment like the other reviewers did. Actually, they tried to be very flexible since I was desperate and the receptionist fit me in during my lunch break. When i waited for my turn, all the other women in there were Moms... I was literally scared I was going to walk out with an old lady hair cut and sobbed quietly to myself. BUT then fate turned it around and heaven spoke to me and graced me with one of the best hair stylists I've come across. My stylist, Lisa was very understanding that I had to get back to work. She even asked me if she was under pressure for time, how considerate. Seriously. Anyways, she understood my hair, she understood that I love my hair and she was willing to cut off centimeter by centimeter just so I won't die. Anyways, she asked what I wanted, gave me her opinions, and cut my hair and styled it the way I would normally. She didn't put all these random products in that I was never going to use or curl my ends with the brush to make me look like I just stepped out of a movie. She gave me the cut I want with flare. Anyways, she was great, she even complimented on my hair color that I had dyed the night before. I know how much hair salons frown upon color jobs done in home. This is my salon! I got my prom hair done here in 2007 by Sabrina and absolutely loved it. She knew exactly what to do with my thick, shoulder-length hair. It looked great and stayed put the whole night. I've been going to get my hair cut here since 2009. Sabrina chopped off my long hair to donate and gave me a great style after. I went to Jen to get my hair cut for a while due to availability (I was in college), but eventually returned to Sabrina. She always listens to what I want to do with my hair, gives me suggestions, makes sure we're on the same page before she starts cutting, and always does a great job. Also, her styles last and stay looking great for a long time, which is nice when I'm trying to grow my hair out. Both Sabrina and Jen have helped me out with hair color from the box faux pas. Jen was great at toning down my super blonde, chunky highlights and gave me a more natural, but still summery look. Then, she helped me get it back to its natural color that fall. Last November, Sabrina helped return my red-tinged hair to its normal color. (Undoing red is the hardest, especially trying to cover it up with boxed hair dye.) They're both great with fixing hair color errors! I went to another place to get my hair cut in May 2011 and I got a style that didn't look right anymore about 6 weeks after I got it cut, so I went to Sabrina and she gave me a great (although short) style that looked nice when I was growing it out. Their front desk staff has gotten nicer over the years (I've seen some other people complaining about them on Yelp). Usually, you don't deal with them that much anyway. No stars - totally unprofessional, definitely do not rely on this salon if you need an appointment for an important event. I've had 3 separate appointments cancelled at very short notice. They have a 24 hour cancellation policy for you but it doesn't apply to them. I received a voicemail the afternoon before saying the appointment was cancelled. I called back to rearrange, no answer so left a voicemail. Received a call the next morning at the time of my scheduled appointment - what use is that? Clearly irate, I calmly passed on my disappointment to the host. Then just to add fuel to the fire the owner got the host to call me back to pass on her apology - not even the common courtesy to call me herself - she made her young assistant speak to an irate client. Unprofessional, poor management and ill-mannered - I'm now very much an ex-client. read more

I had a wonderful experience with Fatima at Eccoli! I have curly hair and had been growing it out for the past four years. I was used to getting Deva Curl cuts and using their products so I was excited to see Eccoli offers this. While I love my curls, it was time to chop them off and go back to a pixie cut. I was nervous going to a new stylist, but Fatima was amazing. She really listened to what I wanted (pixie, sexy and feminine). She really worked with my hair, slowly seeing what shape my curls would make as they were cut. I absolutely LOVE the finished product! I rocked different pixie cuts for several years and have never had one this organic. I also love that I was still able to keep some of my curls long on top. Even better is that she styled it with virtually no product and I've been able to do the same. Fatima is a great artist and a pleasure to work with. Maddy is great! She is an artist. She works with you, asks many questions and I always love what is created. I have very short, wavy hair and I had heard from numerous people that she was the "gal in Lexington" who can work well with waves & curls. It's easy to talk with Maddy, to change your mind, or even try something new. If you are not pleased, she can handle it. I have my hair colored and highlighted and she does an amazing job on very short hair. It is difficult to highlight short hair as it is easy to have clumps and stripes. Maddy has figured out a system where she can get the foils to stay in very, very short hair without having to put in a big clump. In addition (big bonus) she will foil my hair WHILE the color is processing. This saves so much time and looks fantastic. For years I blew dry my long curly hair straight. In May I decided to go with the curl as I will be spending time in humid FL. Eccoli is the 4th salon I have been to. Saw a woman with curly hair, approached her and asked where she got her hair done. She gave me salon name, but not stylist. Went on-line and read the staff reviews. Called and made an appt. with Maddy. My curls have finally found a home. All previous curly cuts required almost as much time as a blow out. If I am going to be curly, I want it simple. Maddy heard what I said. She looked at he shape of my face and gave me the best cut imaginable. I have a tight curl and it is flat on my head when I wake. Maddy showed me exactly what to do in the AM to revive the curl. It's only taken me 67 years to embrace what G_D chose to give me. read more

I'm so particular about my hair && it takes a lot of great reviews online & from friends to try a new place... or a free Groupon from my boyfriend. Welp, I'm all for trying new activities and foods, but I've learned over time that you should just stay with your good hairstylist foreverandeverandever. The salon itself is clean, busy, professional enough with a friendly staff. My girl (Rachel?) reviewed the different highlight colored options with me and we decided on a soft light brown. While my hair was being washed out/deep conditioned, she had scheduled a hair cut for another client. A lot of salons tend to do that, which is normally fine with me but I was left waiting for an additional 30 minutes. After the cut and dry, my head looked like a rainbow of brassy orange & blonde. Also, since I had purple in there previously and she had known that as well, some of the highlights came out with hints of green or white along with the purple. She seemed to notice the concern on my face and offered to tone it out more or add purple to cover it up with no additional charge. I had already been there for three hours and just wanted to get out since I had other errands to run. Also, I had a wedding to go to the next day and even if I had scheduled for another time, I would've had to attend either wearing a wig/hat/paperbag. When I got home I immediately put a semi-permanent dye over it and also saw that my cut in general was uneven and very choppy. Just chunks over chunks of hair. Byebye, flowy layers. I know Asian hair can be a more difficult to cut and color, but if I know that, she should know that. This is my first and last* time there. Maybe other stylists there are better or maybe my girl was having an off day or maybemaybemaybe bunch of other variables... but when it comes to my hair, I am not going to take another chance. :x read more

A week ago I got the best haircut of my life! Really! Maddy is an absolute genius. I hadn't had a stylist for a year and was really sick of bouncing from one bad haircut to the next. To give Maddy an idea of what I wanted, I brought in a few pictures of very short styles I liked. I usually tend to micromanage a new stylist. I'm not sure what made me feel so confident right away, but I trusted Maddie to do her thing with my very fine, thin and cowlicky hair. I'm extremely glad I did. I got a cut better than any of my celebrity pictures. Now I know why she's so heavily booked. Thank you, thank you, thank you Maddy, I can't believe how much I love this cut. It's a breeze to style, and everybody tells me I look years younger with this more stylish 'do. I feel like a new woman! DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had been looking forward to my appointment at Eccoli. I figured that the service must be good because it's always crowded with customers. Tonight I had an appointment with Marcello (the salon owner) and he BUTCHERED my hair. I went in for a cut and perm and had spoken to Marcello several times before and during the appointment, explaining what I was looking for. Basically, I wanted a perm that would give my hair volume and make it more wavy, not curly like a poodle or sheep. He completely messed up the perm, which made me look like a poodle. And in an attempt to fix his mistake, he proceeded to chop off all my hair to get rid of the poodle-perm....AND I MEAN ALL MY HAIR...... As the situation kept getting worse, I decided that I'd had enough and I just wanted him to stop, so I told him that it was enough and I decided to leave. As soon as I got off the chair to get ready to leave, he EXPLODED into a vicious, angry fit and started SCREAMING at me and slamming and throwing things around the salon. I was in shock and tears! He continued to berate me on how it was MY FAULT because I didn't let him finish. But all he was doing was feverishly back-peddling on his mistake and in result, chopped off so much of my hair that it is not more than an inch in length. I wish I were exaggerating. As I walked up to the register, fighting back tears, he started screaming the amount that I owed. I wasn't even suggesting that I wasn't going to pay for the butchered service that I received so I found it even more insulting that he was suggesting that it was all my fault and that I was complaining due to monetary reason. Let me just make it clear that I wasn't even complaining. I simply told him to stop and got up to pay so I could leave. Regardless, I wanted to get the heck out of there so I quickly paid the stylist behind the counter who was a witness of the entire disaster and she proceeded to profusely apologize to me under her breathe. After I paid and was about to leave, I told him that his attitude was very unprofessional and as I was saying this to him, instead of apologizing for his poor work and behavior, he continued to scream and throw a fit. It was so bad that after I left the salon, one of the employees that had witnessed the entire ordeal called me and again profusely apologized on his behalf and offered me a complementary service by a different hair stylist to help fix the butchered hair job. I told her that I would never step foot in that salon ever again even if they paid me. I can't express enough how traumatizing and horrible my experience was at this salon with Marcello and I highly warn anyone considering going to this salon. read more

I've been going to Eccoli since I moved to the Boston area 3 and a half years ago. I'm so glad I found a great salon near work! The atmosphere is friendly and comforting, it's exactly what you'd want in a salon experience. More importantly, though, if you want a great color job you should definitely book an appointment with Sabrina. She's brilliant with all over color. I've gotten so many compliments from complete strangers on my hair color. I'm not really sure how she does it but the color jobs I get from her just seem to last longer than the ones I've gotten other places, which is notable because my hair is dyed a deep auburn that usually fades or gets bronzy really fast. That hasn't been the case since I've been going to Sabrina. She's also super nice, takes the time to get to know her customers, and an awesome stylist. Knowing that it is not so easy to find places to do perms these days, I asked Marcello if he could do this as my Mom was going to be in town visiting. Well I was given the appointment, and I must say, it was the BEST style my Mom had ever received in her 80 years of life! She looked fantastic! My adult daughter and I both have been coming to Eccoli for the past four years. Liz Serino King is our stylist and she is terrific! She also does my color. Not only is Liz incredibly skilled, but she has a warm welcoming personality. Everyone in the salon is professional yet also friendly. I have never had a negative experience. Back to Liz - she has a knack, an ability to just KNOW what is going to look great on you - she takes the client's personality, hair type, facial structure, personal vision - puts it all together and comes up with a GREAT cut. And my color, well, it is complex - I do a foil along with high lights, low lights and sometimes a toner - tricky stuff, but Liz is very skilled, like a chemist/artist/designer - the result of her alchemy is that my hair looks super natural, soft, and I get so many compliments! Prices at Eccoli are extremely reasonable for a high end salon like this with the high level of skill that you find here. You would pay twice what Eccoli charges at a salon on Newbury Street, and I dare say, the results wouldn't be as good as what the talent at Eccoli produces. read more

Liz was fantastic! I told her what I wanted and she listened to my ideas. She didn't try to make me do anything that I didn't want. She didn't cut off too much, but she offered insight and her ideas were great! My friend showed up to check it out and she was treated like family. The finished result was amazing. This is a professional salon, not inexpensive and generally good. However, I have a really hard time when my hairdresser, who is one of the owners, doesn't apologize when he is 40 minutes late. He does a good job, but I'm not sure how long I can take this. I've been a customer for many years and the issue of late appointments is hit or miss - but maybe 50% of the time. For the price I would like to reconsider but I like the haircuts - such a dilemma... read more

I just went here for the first time. I have curly hair that is very long and just wanted a micro-trim. Maddy cut off about an inch (NOT a micro-trim) and didn't even layer or anything so I now have triangle hair. I also usually just let my hair air dry so when I'm at the salon I like when they blow it out straight for me. She started to blow it out and was ripping it and it hurt. At one point she stopped to pull out a knot and literally yanked the knot out ripping all of my hair and flicked it to the floor! I had her stop and wanted to just re-wet it so I could let it dry at home because the blow out was just a frizzy mess. She asked why and I told her it just didn't look pretty and was very frizzy. She told me it was my hair. I can blow dry my hair straight without ripping it and it comes out smooth and nice. Def is not my hair's fault! Went to pay, and online it says $35+ for hair cut but because each hair stylist has their own cost, it was $75! For a trim! and I left with soaking wet hair that is damaged and ripped! So Pissed! read more
