I am so thankful my friend told me about Melanie at Blush. She fixed my hair after another salon did my blonde roots bright red, and after she dyed my hair 5 times to only make the bright red on top orange and the rest of my blonde a bleach blonde. Melanie me used her magic and was able to completely get rid of the orange and evened out my color and brought my dark blonde back. it actually looks better than it has in years. Thank you so much! Why does Yelp stay stuck on complaints while the positives get brushed away from the collection of reviews? Not that I'm here to review Yelp, but I have reviewed Blush **three times** and here I am reviewing for a fourth time with none of the prior positive reviews I originally gave still here cause I'm not a wannabe critic, oops I mean "yelper". I have been a customer of Blush since their opening and the salon and staff are fantastic. Kate and Team are the best and I always get the perfect cut and color every time, while enjoying the entire experience. Another great thing about Blush is that the staff is down to earth. Blush Salon - Hair Salons Near Me - Arlington, Massachusetts

I really wanted to like this place, but after three haircuts here, I'm not going back...the law of diminishing returns has set in. On the plus side, despite its small size, Blush is an attractive, modern space and doesn't have that nail polish remover smell that many salons often have. And the lines they carry cannot often be found at your usual neighborhood salon, like Davines. The first time I went, I literally got the best haircut I've ever had in my life....seriously! (Or, at least one of my top three.) The stylist spent an hour with me and took the time to work with my hair's texture and show me how I could replicate results at home. She didn't try to talk me into taking more off the length. I was disappointed when I called a couple of months later and found that she wasn't there any longer. The second stylist did an okay enough job, but not quite the same results as her predecessor. The third time I went I was mystified - not only did the stylist take off more than I'd initially asked for, but she gave me a blow-out. I don't look good with stick-straight hair, and given the coarse texture of my hair, it's easier to just work with the natural wave. (Also, a blow-out was different from the photo I'd shown her! Not everyone wants that look.) I'm not going to use two or three different products on my hair to replicate a look that just wasn't flattering on me to begin with. Since this last cut, my hair looks inexplicably frizzy (even with smoothing balm!) and the layers too choppy - not the long, gentle layers I'd expected. And that's what bugs me - I'd assumed that once I'd washed and blow-dried my hair myself, it would be okay. Not so. For it to look more like I'd originally wanted, I have to use hot rollers in the morning, which is not ideal - the less time I have to spend on my hair and make-up in the morning, the better. I'm not that assertive with stylists, which could be part of the issue - if I were the type to say "what are you doing with that product?" "that looks more than an inch of my hair on the floor," and "that's not how I like to dry my hair," I might have had a different experience the last time...but I don't want to have to say that stuff, either. I'd prefer that a stylist understand what it is that I want, take the time to assess my hair and what's going to work for me first. read more

I have been going to Blush Hair Salon for a number of years. It is wonderful salon. The decor and ambiance are great and make you feel so at home. The staff, from the receptionist to all of the stylists I have worked with are number one - totally professional. The owner, Kate is my main stylist but I have also used a number of others. They really know their craft right down to a tee. The salon feels like an upscale, immaculate and well-run entity without any of the ostentation. You will feel completely taken care of and at ease. I can not say enough good things about Blush! Kate, the owner, gives the BEST hair cut. She has transformed the frizzy, kinky texture of my hair into a style that I always receive compliments on. Prior to discovering Kate, I was dealing with out of control hair that I'd end up slicking back every day. I've been brunette, blonde and everything in between and she always makes every color look great. I've seen all the other girls as well for colors, blow-drys, make-up application, etc. and they all rock! Going there is such a fun experience. It's like having a coffee date with your girfriends! I have been out to this salon a few times, and really liked it until my recent experience. The Good: Salon is very clean and does not smell like hair color. The quality of hair color is very good, and both stylists i have seen have the expertise to use it well. The Bad: The stylist booked more than one client at the same time. So, if she is waiting for the color in client A's hair to process, she begins coloring client B's hair and keeps going back and forth. At one point, i was sitting with my hair dripping wet, waiting for my stylist to return and blow dry it for me. When she returned, she did not acknowledge or apologize for what happened. All in all, i spent 2hrs and 15 minutes for basic hair color when it really should have taken about an hour less. I have been to some of the nicest salon's in the city and have not seen this happen. For me, this made it a disappointing experience! If i am paying top dollar for the suburb, i expect that kind of service in return. read more

I have been trying to find a salon in the Lexington, MA area for some time now where I can get a great haircut on a regular basis. Unfortunately, my recent trip to Blush Salon left much to be desired. Please note, that this review has nothing to do with the salon itself. It was a lovely establishment where I was greeted warmly and offered some water or tea. I'm afraid this review has everything to do with the stylist Ashley. Ashley was very nice and asked all the right questions, however, the edgy, but professional bob I requested was not what I received. Instead, I was given a haircut with very short layers and very long layers, with chunks of medium layers spread miscellaneously around my head. It looked as though someone took a weed whacker to my hair. When she asked if I liked it, I said it wasn't exactly what I was looking for and asked instead if I could get a bob. This time I showed her a picture, but unfortunately, again, the haircut turned out nothing like what I had wanted. At this point I didn't want her cutting my hair anymore, so I paid and left. Luckily, I was able to schedule an emergency appointment with a stylist I knew would give me a great cut - Laura at Salon O in Easthampton, MA (quite possibly the best salon on the planet, but a little far from Lexington). I might try Blush Salon for an updo in the future as they were nice enough to fix a bad updo I got on another occasion, but I certainly would not go back for a haircut. read more

I just had my second cut and it is AWESOME! I have very thick hair, and I have generally had a very hard time finding anyone who is able to shape it into a bob without making me look like a mushroom. Leah is very professional, and does a great job taming my hair into a nice stylish cut. She is able to thin out my hair without making strange layers that start to stick out within a week or two after it is cut. They seem to specialize in hair. I think you can get makeup done there as well, but I've never tried it. read more

I have been going to Blush for several years now and I can't believe all the negative reviews on this site. I am thinking that only the negative people write and the positive ones don't feel the need. After seeing these reviews I want to let the readers know how wonderful this salon is. I have referred several friends as well and they love it. I am always getting compliments on my hair cut, which is a short bob style (my stylist is Melanie) and my color is natural and always comes out great. The atmosphere is rich and chic but not fussy or pretentious. It's got a boutique-like feel, great products and great service. I have never had to wait for my services. They run the salon impeccably and I am always taken on the exact time my appointment is scheduled. Blush Salon is probably the overall best salon I have frequented (and I have moved all over the east coast, and tried a lot!). First of all, it has all the details that a upscale, Newbury Street salon has, with NONE of the pretension. No getting dressed up to get your hair done...etc. I go to Kate, who is also the owner. Kate has given me the best color regardless if I have gone light with highlights or stayed dark to cover up gray...people continually come up to my to comment on my color and where i get it done. She listens, and gives an amazing blowout & cut too! I have visited other stylists for last minute blow outs, etc and they all have that relaxed and attentive vibe. I am also a total convert to the bumble and bumble products there. There is no hard sell for them though, which is refreshing. I probably went for three years before I bought something and no one ever asked me too. My daughters get their haircut there too, which is definitely a bit of a splurge, but after seeing the quality difference for just a few dollars more than the typical mall or kid salon, I am convert! I have recommended many friends and acquaintances and no one has ever been disappointed. read more

The salon is unpretentious, comfortable, spotless and a great place to hang out for an hour or two. I look forward to my appointments every four weeks and am NEVER disappointed. STAY AWAY! Went to the salon with a picture of me in a photo with the haircut I wanted reproduced. Sounds easy reproduce a haircut with assistance of visual and verbal description. The cut I wanted was swept back away from my face with rounded side and long layers in the back. What I ended up with the first attempt - layers uneven and 2" longer in the front than requested. When I said it was not what I wanted, Melanie's second attempted produced the shorter layers requested, but in the back, instead of the front. Instead of sweeping hair from my face, the cut left hair hanging in my face. The right side is 1/2" shorter than the left. The back layers are 1" shorter than the front. In general, the haircut is a disaster. The only good thing I can say about the salon is they have good magazines! Not a reason to entrust your haircut to one of the stylists at Blush! read more

I have never felt comfortable in a salon until I followed a hairdresser to Blush. The place is always clean and I am always addressed as soon as I walk in. She not only provides me with an amazing cut, she gives me great insight and suggestions on how to maintain my style and hair with as little effort as possible. I have been a client of Laura's at Blush for almost two years and have been very satisfied each time I've gone. She's a fantastic colorist, does great cuts and knows exactly would looks good on me. The last few times I've gotten a wax there is a different story. I'll start off by saying that the most recent wax I got there was done by the girl who normally does my eyebrows and she totally butchered them - I think it was because she was in a rush since I was her last client of the day, but no excuses, it was unacceptable and I should have known it when she didn't offer me the mirror to inspect. The time before that was with a different girl and she basically took too much off and it looked like I had bald spots going through my eyebrows. I'll probably find a new place to go for waxing but am COMPLETELY satisfied with the outcome of every hair appointment. Until that changes I'll keep visiting Blush! :) read more

I went to Blush at the recommendation of a friend who has a great hair cut and goes there. We both get our hair cut by Melanie, and it's the best hair cut i've gotten. She gets exactly what I want and does it. (I have bob-length super straight hair and somehow she manages to breathe some life into it.)
