My haircut is awful. I am so unhappy. The fact that I showed him a picture and he didn't even follow it. My neck is shaved 2 inches up from my natural neckline. Shaved bald. Sides are faded and both sides are different. I asked him to keep it feminine and obviously he did not. I was so excited to have my hair done by Marcello. The reviews on the website are amazing . I thought that I was in good hands. I'm so disappointed and now until the cut grows out I must fill the sides in with dark brown shadow and unfortunately there is nothing that I can do about the back. So sad and upset. Salon Marcello is a wonderful salon with excellent, knowledgeable stylists. I found Marcello by asking a woman in an optical shop where she got her similar textured hair (curly) cut. I immediately booked an appointment with Marcello and I have never gotten so many compliments on my cut and color. I always had long curly hair but I decided to go for a modern shorter style and I love it! I have now recommended Marcello and the Salon Marcello to my boss who is going soon too! read more

I've got to Marcello since I was 11. While I don't like to admit it, that was over 35 years ago. For a while, like 20+ years Marcello was the only person who had ever cut my hair. Marcello is an artist. He is more of a hair sculptor than a stylist. If you trust him, which I do, he'll figure out what hair style will frame my face the best. I'm ok looking, but my face is full, so I can't have wire straight hair cause then I'll look like all face with no hair. Marcello knows what's in way more than I do and he keeps me from looking like a frump. I've seen him do Middle Ages men, older women and young girls and he's great at finding a haircut to suit each person. He's good with color and he's semi straightened my hair which has made it manageable at a fraction of the cost of a Brazilian blow out. The whole team here is great too. When Marcello is booked, I've got to Sal, Shay and my mom's had Maddie die her hair and everyone's done a great job. Extra bonus is the fact that this is a neighborhood joint. Some of the neighbors just stop by to see the rotating paintings by local artists or just have a chat. I can bring my 5 year old and everyone is sweet and all inclusive. If you're in the area, come by for a blow out, color or cut, I've only ever been happy I did. read more

I will never go to anyone besides Sal, ever again! I have never stayed loyal to a hairdresser, ever, before Sal did my hair. I've been all over the Arlington, Belmont, Lexington area and no one compares! I've been going to him for over 2 years now. Maddy Gersh has been cutting and highlighting my hair for many years, even before she joined Salon Marcello. This location is easy to get to and park at. The salon is so tasteful that you feel elegant yet comfortable there. Original artwork from very talented regional artists always provides something interesting to see. The stylists and other workers there seem like a great team and help each other out, giving a friendly and nice vibe. Maddy is a stylist who takes the time to get to know what you want and has the experience to be able to provide it for you, or advise you against it, if needed. She'll ask other stylists for their input too, to help you decide, and shares what she's learning at hair shows or classes that she still takes to learn new things. My cut needs to be maintenance free but look good and fit "my personality" and that's what I get, every time. Maddy will recommend or find a new style when I'm getting bored and adjust the color based on my hair condition or requests. Never have I had to return for her to fix something, but she would do so if I asked. Other clients there tell stories of how she "fixed" what colorists in other salons have botched. She's very professional, totally reliable, friendly, and provides you with a relaxing and enjoyable experience. It is not easy to get an appointment with her during prime hours, meaning I have to schedule far in advance. If you can be flexible, you can get in sooner. read more

I too followed Shay to Salon Marcello. The friendly and welcoming staff makes it worth the extra miles to Lexington. As always, Shay is wonderful and knows best how to cut & style my hair better than I can envision. I just love the family atmosphere at Salon Marcello's. Some salons out there make the hair cutting experience to be so formal that you can't relax because you have to be quiet as to not disturb the place. Not at Marcello's, it's relaxing and fun. A few years back I got lucky using Groupon for a new colorist, Salvatore, at another hair salon. From web reviews, he's a master of subtle highlights. The reviews proved true. Then I got cheap figuring I could color & cut my own hair. What a mistake! Eventually I ended up with blue hair in a fish bowl cut- ugh. Well past time to admit defeat and go back to Salvatore to undo the mess I'd done. Unbeknownst to me he moved but I diligently sought him out. Thank goodness I found him and can say my hair color & cut are back to where I feel I'm an active part of the human race. I shan't stray again. read more

Maddy is a master. I've been a client ever since I moved to the Boston area 6 years ago. Every cut and/or color has made me feel beautiful and sophisticated such that I have more self confidence. My hair is not easy to cut and her techniques, especially when adding texture (razor blade!), allows for a great shape even as it grows out. Marcello is a 30+ year seasoned stylist in the industry who has a passion for color and design. A charming Italian gentleman, Marcello originally comes from Argentina where he apprenticed under his uncle until becoming a master stylist himself. He also practiced color and design in Avellino, Italy before coming to the US and starting his own salon in Lexington, MA. I first went to Marcello on a recommendation from a friend who also has curly hair. As many people know, it is hard to find a talented stylist for cutting curly hair. Marcello does such a great job that my shape stays for up to 3 months before I have to come back. However I do also get color treatments by Marcello and he uses only top of the line products, especially Nuance hair coloring cream with ceramics from Italy. It protects the hair and reconditions it while it brightens and colors the grey. I get compliments daily about how healthy and shiny my hair looks and I attribute it to the Nuance hair coloring cream. The salon is warm and inviting and you always have a good time socializing with the neighboring clients, if you so wish. Every month or so there is a new local artist 's paintings curated in the space, so it always appears fresh and new. I highly recommend Salon Marcello, The Art of Hair Design! read more
