I had a cut with Mackenzie, and the whole experience was great. It had been two years since my last cut, and I appreciated how she would ask me if the length was good or if I needed any changes. She added some long layers and I told her I needed a cut that would require no styling at home. She really understood and gave me a very manageable cut. The real test of a cut is how it looks after I wash it at home. Yes, cuts look great when the stylist blow dries and styles it. I don't know how to do anything fancy, and I was so happy to see that my cut looked amazing after a simple brushing and air drying at home. Thank you! I came to this salon twice for root touch appointments as I couldn't go to my regular salon due to my schedule. I also came here because they do use Wella color and its close to my home. Both times after I left there was still dye in my hair, The second time I showed the stylist and she didn't think it was a big deal. It became a health issue. Both times i was able to get a lot of it out myself which took 45 minutes each time. My friend goes to Andrea at this salon and says good things. I wasn't able to get an appointment with her. The owner, Jacqui is very nice and cares about her clients. In any event, I went back to my regular salon and am happy there was no dye in my hair when I left. I would certainly keep this in the back of my mind and if I end up going back there as a back up, I would see if Andrea could do my hair. There are many good things about it, great location , owner who cares, tip can be added to credit card, online booking, receptionists who can help with scheduling and great hours. The purpose of this review isn't to say bad things about the salon but to let others know what happened to me so they don't have to suffer with unwashed dye in their hair as I had to. read more

I've been visiting Cheryl at Jacqui's Design Group for over 2 years now and I couldn't be happier. You wouldn't believe the number of super popular, super expensive hair Boston salons I tried (and was disappointed by) before I found this one. Cheryl always seems to understand just what I'm looking for. I have a pretty low-maintenance routine, so I just get my longish hair trimmed with some layering around my face. However, my m-i-l visits Cheryl for a more professional "done" look with hair color and highlights and always looks like a million bucks, so I know Jacqui's Design Group can handle that too. I actually never got my hair done there, I just had to deal with the receptionist on a few occasions and she was COMPLETELY RUDE! I feel bad for the stylists having this girl, I think her name was Donna, being the first person the client deals with. She actually called my house and was very blunt and rude to my husband when I missed my appointment. Most salons give you a reminder call about your appointment, this one did not, so I completely forgot I had one...which isn't their fault, its mine, but dont be rude about it....especially when i waited almost a month for an appointent. read more

What ever you do stay away from this place! I went in asking for blonde highlights on my light brown hair and came out with white/grey highlights on very dark brown hair. I asked them to fix it and they put a toner on it that made the dark brown darker and the greyish highlights darker in only some places. So now I have brown/black hair with white streaks. When I spoke to the owner to request a refund ($150) and she told me "you got what you wanted". She just kept repeating this phrase. Very creepy. I am going to a new salon to try and save my hair and my dignity. in addition to the incredibly bad job the staff there is weirdly catty and I seriously question some of the outfits the younger stylists wear. I am no prude but some of them look like strippers on their day off. Supper tacky place with terrible service and no idea what they are doing. If you want "frosted" hair this is the place for you, otherwise run in the other direction. read more

I have been going to Jacquis now for well over a year and I have never left unhappy. Kristie F does magic with my hair. I have a pretty specific style and color (platinum and short) and in the past I have had hairdressers at other salons send me out with yellow hair or a cut that doesnt work with my very thick hair. I am constantly amazed by her attention to detail and skill. The place is clean, super friendly and efficient. They always have coffee and cookies and such in the waiting area as well as jewelry and nail polish to peruse. I think I have bought at least three rings! haha I love that this place is in Arlington because I used to have to drive all the way to Brookilne to get get my hair done before I found Jacquis. Also, the owner, Jacqui, is always there keeping an eye on things. Love this place. added 03/16/2016 - I am still going to Jacquis even after moving to NH. I gladly drive an hour to have my hair done by Kristie and say hello to all the friendly faces I have gotten to know in the 5+ years I shave been going there. I have been going to Jacqui's for literally my whole life, and to be completely honest, I've never left the salon unhappy. In fact, I always leave feeling amazing and refreshed. Often times, I don't even tell my stylist what I want. I simply give her an idea, and say, "I trust you." That is just how good these ladies at the salon are. About a year ago, I decided to dye my hair for the first time, going from dark brown to an auburn red. The wonderful Kristie Fischer did such an excellent job. I literally get compliments on my hair color everywhere I go. When I was at university near Manhattan, I went to a very nice, expensive salon for a touch-up in the Soho area. Just the touch-up was $100, and the color wasn't exactly what I wanted. I figure if the great New Yorkers can't do my hair, then Kristie must be THE ONE. I refuse to have anyone else touch my hair but Kristie. Not only is she talented, but she is sweet and compassionate. While in her styling chair, you are taken away for that hour and a half and you just enjoy, chat, and laugh! As far as I know, I'll be going to this salon forever. read more

I love Jacqui's design Group. I have been seeing Kristie for about four years and she is the best. If you are a woman with short hair who keeps getting cuts that are too masculine or too conservative, you have got to try Kristie. She's given me all sorts of cuts from chin length to short-short and I have loved them all. The salon is nice, too. Everyone is very friendly and not snobby at all (like some salons we've all been to). The salon is really no where near me but it is totally worth the trip. I went to Jacqui's for the first time. Everyone was very nice and the place was clean. I asked Jamie I wanted about 1-2 cut off and long layers. I walked out with my hair 3 inches shorter and short layers. I have had this cut before and when my hair dries it looks like a helmet. I hope it grows out fast. I was without a hairdresser for over a year, and tried Jacqui's on recommendation from an acquaintance who always had a nice hair cut. I went to Jamie, who spent a long time on the cut and color. Long (hair) story short - an excellent job. The best part is I paid about half of what I used to pay at the big-name salon in Harvard Square. That explains why Jacqui's is busy to the point of being a bit chaotic - who wouldn't want to get such great value at a cozy neighborhood salon? I went to this salon multiple times, and every time, I felt rushed and not treated in a professional manner. The young girl (who shall remain nameless) rushed my blonde highlights, and they were to thick and turned orange the next day. I will never recommend this place, and I will never be coming back. Not to mention that this place is overpriced, and to crowded, with old ladies drinking coffee all day like its a party, and the hair dressers just sitting out back gabbing away smoking cigarettes and not acting professional. read more

A friend whose hair color I really liked recommended me to this salon. When I arrived the salon was very busy & it was during a weekday. This was a good sign. I chose a color that I normally would not. The stylist said I did not have enough time to do 2 processes. Sorry can't remember the exact details. Anyway, I asked her if she had another client after me. She said she did. I guess by my reaction after my hair was done, she could tell I did not like the results. Matter-of-fact, the stylist asked me if I liked it. I didn't want to be rude & just said that I'd have to get used to it. After I paid, I went back to ask a question. The stylist was in the back. Maybe her next client was running late??? A couple of years later, I ran into the owner of the salon & told her how displeased I was with what I had done. It was Halloween & she seemed to be in a rush. She did say I could stop by the salon. This owner could of cared less by her reaction. I guess Halloween is more important than an UNHAPPY client. read more
