We came here on a whim as we were close by and we left without a single regret. The food was excellent and our server had fantastic suggestions for food choices. It is beautifully decorated and it is fun to see in to the kitchen. Get the bread! And the cabbage! And the mushroom pizza. Delicious
Wildland is a popular brunch spot in Carlsbad that combines restaurant / bar / bakery all in one. This is a sister restaurant to Jeune et Jolie (a one-Michelin-star restaurant) and Campfire. [Parking]: Street parking only, but apparently there is a parking lot at 2775 State St for transit patrons using the Carlsbad Village Coaster Stop so park there at your own risk. I parked on the street just behind Jeune et Jolie for free. [Ordering]: There was a waiting line on Saturday at 11:15 AM, but the wait was only approximately 5 minutes. [Atmosphere]: Fancy interior decor with a dog-friendly outdoor patio area. [Menu]: Top Yelp highlighted items include the Breakfast Sandwich, Pizza Sandwich, and Smoked Fish Plate. Please note that breakfast items like Breakfast Sandwich and Wood Fired Pizza Sandwich are only served from 8 AM to 1 PM. They serve coffee from Steady State Roasting. *** Breakfast sandwich (Fennel Sausage. Charred Egg. Gribiche Aioli. Hook's Two Year Cheddar. Pain au Lait - $16): The sandwich tasted alright with a runny egg. Pizza: I didn't order it, but I took a bite and it was actually good. *** A solid 3.5-star on food. Based on my order alone, I am not sure it was really worth the extra hassle of finding parking, waiting in line, and paying up for a nice brunch vibe.
I've been wanting to make it to wildland since its inception, but I'm just not in the area that often. I had an appointment earlier in the day in Oceanside so I decided to drive the coast and stop on my way home. I could see where parking could be a problem, but I found a spot relatively quickly. I walked up and admired the patio. It's definitely a nice spot for outdoor dining. I walked in and noticed a big wide open industrial space. The bar was in the middle as well as the coffee bar. The woman at the counter greeted me kindly when I walked in and answered my questions. I know I already like steadystate coffee so I happily ordered a latte. I asked if they had oat milk, which she said they did. The pastries and breads looked tempting so I also ordered a Madeline. She advised me that I needed to pick up my coffee at the end of the bar in the middle of the large room and handed me my Madeleine. Upon payment I had my receipt emailed to me. I was greeted at the bar by the barista who served me my drink. It took a few minutes, but I wasn't expecting otherwise, and I was happily enjoying looking at the restaurant. There were people in the back working on their computers and people dining throughout the restaurant. It was only about 11:30 so there weren't a lot of people there yet but I imagine it gets quite busy. She handed me my latte and I was on my way. It was good, nice and strong. My Madeline was very good too, and I could've eaten more than one easily. When I looked at my receipt later, I noticed they charged me an extra dollar for oat milk. I understand that some places do and some places don't, but when I asked if they had oatmilk, it should it should have been stated. I would definitely come back for a meal, but I think I like getting my coffee at steadystate directly.
Enjoyed my time catching up with friends and working from Wildland! The place itself is BEAUTIFUL very open and a lot of natural light. Even though it was busy throughout our time, there was enough space it did not feel stuffy. I started with a vanilla latte with oat milk which was delicious but not very hot. After paying extra for oat milk it was over a $10 latte. Note that the surcharge is 4% as well. Later I went up to the cashier and ordered the quarter chicken. The chicken was juicy and flavorful and I really enjoyed the sauces it came with. The lettuce was interesting and good but could have used a salad dressing as it was quite dry and I didn't want to dip it in the aioli, chili oil or humus. Also some parts of the lettuce tasted weirdly chemically - I wonder if because they did not cut it it was hard to wash and something stayed on it that was foul tasting. Also cutting the chicken multiple times created cuts in the paper and I didn't accidentally eat the paper which got soggy and easy to pick up which was not pleasant. Lastly, one of the water carafes we used had dark sediment in the bottom which was very off putting. Altogether enjoyed my time because of the atmosphere, the friendly staff, the yummy latte, and the fast wifi for working!
This place gets busy! I arrived at ~1pm and there was a line out the door. I waited for a good 15-20 min until I was able to order. I ordered the puff rice bowl which came with puffed organic brown rice, cucumbers, avocado, kale, cilantro, feta cheese all topped with a delicious sunny side up egg. I added bacon which made this dish extra savory. The bacon itself was too salty though. Everything tasted fresh - I love all the crunchy rice puffs and all the delicious veggies. This restaurant is on the pricey side. It was $28 for the bowl alone. Would I return? Maybe. It's worth trying at least once!
Finally trying out the food scene in Carlsbad! Wildland was such a great first experience. The restaurant is beautiful with a nice outdoor dining patio, a large bar, indoor seating, and even a private area for events. Not only are they a restaurant and bar, but they're also a bakery -- they make their own homemade bread for their dishes, which I love. And I'm always a fan of a viewable kitchen; it's so fun watching the artists create their pieces of art. The space has high ceilings, so it feels really open and spacious. The beverage menu is impressive with spritzes, classic cocktails, beer, clarified drinks, and mocktails. We were a group of friends celebrating a birthday, so we ordered a mix of salads, a pizza, a pasta, and a steak entrée to share. The wood‑fired cabbage is their take on a Caesar salad and wow -- I may only make Caesar with cabbage from now on. Soft on the inside, charred on the outside, so much flavor. The 'Nduja pizza was great, and the homemade bread crust makes such a difference. Sadly, they didn't have ranch, but they brought out a fresh dill aioli‑style sauce that worked perfectly. The grilled hanger steak with the ricotta wood‑fired gnocchi was the star of the show. We also had the mafaldine pasta, which was good, just not the standout of the night. Overall, we left with full bellies and happy hearts. They made my friend's birthday extra special and even brought her a card and a sweet treat. Would recommend!
I had the opportunity to experience this restaurant and it did not disappoint! I dined on the outdoor patio. It was on the warmer side and they didn't have any shaded seats available, but I love the sun and wasn't bothered by this. The servers were very attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and provided too notch customer service. I love when they can speak to the menu and offer suggestions. Me and my friend opted to share a salad and pasta because we weren't super hungry. We ordered the very fren salad and the Malfadine pasta. The salad was fresh, crisp and had a great flavor. The seeds at times felt like I had them all in my teeth, so needed to do a teeth check afterwards! Haha the pasta is made fresh and was light, but so flavorful. We did not leave a morsel on the plate! I only walked through the inside to find a restroom. It looked like they had a lot of seating for larger parties and a private dining room as well. Super clean, simple design, but felt warm. Wish I lived closer to dine here often, but it's definitely a spot to try if you're in town visiting!
If you're visiting Carlsbad, you need to visit this place. I worked remotely from here whenever i'm in town and it's always a 10/10 experience. The indoor outdoor space is amazing. The vibes here are high and service is top tier. It is on the more pricier side of things but i highly think it's worth it considering the experience you get when eating/working from here. Come and try it out for yourself!
TL;DR - wood fired pizza sandwich is really good! I'd get this again. The pistachio blackberry tart is lightly sweet and fruity. Tiramisu was standard. This place is really cool. Very unique food options. Great ambiance. Lots of space and tables (indoors and outdoors). It is basically a restaurant, bakery, and bar. Service is decently quick. We had to wait a bit for our food because the place was packed. The highlight of our food was definitely the wood fire pizza sandwich. Yeah it's sounds weird... a pizza sandwich. But you won't regret it!! It has motadella, stracciatella, peso, parmigiano, and a charred runny egg. The bread is basically a large fluffy pizza that encases the contents like a taco. It was VERY soft bread, and really tasty. I'd get this again in a heart beat! We liked the food enough, and hung around long enough, that we decided to go inside to find another table for dessert (because it started raining outside). Their pistachio blackberry tart was delicious. Lightly sweet with blackberry flavors. The tiramisu was also decent. It was a standard tiramisu and we enjoyed eating it too. Overall, get that wood fire pizza sandwich! There's a lot more to choose from so we'll be checking it out again next time.
I really wanted to love this spot because the indoor and outdoor spaces are stunning, but the service fell short. Despite three different servers checking on a missing drink, it didn't arrive until we were halfway through our meal. The setup is counter-service with open seating for breakfast and lunch. I ordered the quarter chicken plate while it was photogenic, the flavor was essentially standard rotisserie and the hummus came with a confusingly small amount of veggies. My group enjoyed the breakfast plate. The breakfast sandwich was decent and the yolk was runny though they ran out of pain au lait for the bread and subbed it with sourdough. On a high note, the olive oil honey latte was delicious definitely get it hot for the full flavor profile though mine was served in a glass and arrived lukewarm. For dessert, skip the French silk pie and the pain au chocolat, get the pistachio blackberry tart instead. Overall, it's a beautiful spot for different size groups, but the value isn't there given the high price point and service gaps we won't be back.
Huge indoor and outdoor space with plenty of room to sit. The staff were very attentive and welcoming. Ordered: Chocolate hazelnut latte, really good. Pumpkin spice latte, also good, though it didn't have a very strong pumpkin flavor. The breakfast sandwich was tasty; I loved the mild spice in the sausage and the flavorful aioli.
3.5 stars. I wanted to like them more but the entrees were a tad disappointing. We had reservations and I recommend making one because this place is busy. We parked in the public parking lot one block over so it was a 3-ish minute walk to the restaurant. The ambiance is posh with an industrial yet minimal feel to it. The two person tables are a little smaller than we would like (3 plates of food just about fit on the table). The chairs are uncomfortable. We started with drinks - my friend got the margarita and I got the boxing day cocktail. The margarita was based off grape juice but somehow sweeter than we anticipated. My friend does not like sweet drinks and we had to ask for almost no agave to make this drink to her taste. The celery salt was interesting and the best part of the drink. It should be spread all around the rim and not just on one corner. I know it makes the presentation look better but that salt cut down on the sweetness immensely and we loved that combination. PLEASE add the salt all around the rim! The boxing day was a gin based cocktail served as a latte. While you get a hint of gin, it isnt overwhelming, so I liked it! It tasted like a decaffeinated latte :) it is a pricey cocktail though because we paid $18 for this. For food, we started with the wood Fired Cabbage, then the 'Nduja pizza, followed by the lamb meatballs and bucatini carbonara, and a dessert of the chocolate hazelnut cake. The wood Fired Cabbage was the bomb and I will definitely come back here for this dish. The cabbage is, as the name suggests, wood Fired and then stuffed with salad, crispy shallots and covered with shredded Parmesan. The whole thing is delicious and surprisingly light! The shallots elevate the dish completely. The 'Nduja felt like there was a lot happening - too many ingredients, too many flavors so that nothing was able to stand out. The menu said there was spicy 'Nduja. We didn't taste the spice because the cheese, the onions, the fennel, everything overpowered the main component of this dish. I also felt that the crust was fried and burnt a little. I would request removing a couple of ingredients so that the star of the dish i.e. the sausage, can remain the star. The lamb meatballs were ok. Nothing to sing songs about but not bad either. The bucatini carbonara was not good. There was a weird flavor in the dish, which I think came from the guanciale...an almost sweet bitter flavor that ruined the carbonara flavor. I also felt that the carbonara sauce itself was thicker than I am used to. The bucatini was a little chewy too. All in all, that dish wasn't my favorite. It tasted better the next morning after I had cooked it a little more. We ended the meal with the chocolate hazelnut cake. We thought it would be an individual cake but it was a slice. The cake was delicious but heavy. The hazelnut chocolate ganache in between the layers was delicious and the cake sponge was soft. Between the two of us, we finished less than half the slice, so I highly recommend getting this only if you have more than 2 people in the group. All in all, our experience was not as wonderful as we would have liked and this was primarily driven by the main course. We won't be back.
Solid neighborhood joint. Ordered takeout pizza, pasta, and salad. The sugar pea salad was perfectly balanced with natural sweetness and tanginess from the dressing. The mortadella pizza was great -- lovely pillowy crust that had a nice chew to it. The sausage pasta was also great, a bit on the heavier side but tasty nonetheless. Efficient service and spacious restaurant. A great place to stop by for a meal while strolling around State St!
This restaurant was amazing from the food, to the service, to the aesthetic and ambiance inside. 10/10 recommend! My absolute favorite was olive infused sourdough bread, AMAZING! We also had pizza and a sandwich and everything was so tasty. We will definitely be back!! read more

I've tasted quite a few croissants in SD and this place by far has one of the best ones. I'd definitely wanna gatekeep but then again, the these croissants/pastries deserve praise with their careful, detailed execution. The croissants are impeccably flaky and buttery. The butter dissolves within a bite but not in a some greasy/waxy way. The peaches & cream danish (a seasonal item) was a beauty; I found myself driving once a week for a month to just grab one. It's just as flaky as their croissants but the flavor of the peaches were light, not too sweet, and perfectly paired with the cream. Not a hint of artificial flavor. Highly recommend! read more

2nd time here and so UNIMPRESSED Our waiter was nice but the food is nowhere even close to Campfire as far as presentation and flavor. The ambiance is fun as far as a cute neighborhood hang. They need so much coaching from their sister restaurants!! The best part is that they allow dogs. read more
A beautiful restaurant! I'm a huge fan of Jeune et Joilie and wanted to see what was next for the duo on their trendy State St restaurant row. I drove all the way down from the OC through hellish Oceanside traffic. The restaurant was quite busy for Friday before 6pm, so make sure to get your reservation in. The service was pretty great though lagging after things started picking up after 6pm. Most of the food was enjoyable: Maitake mushrooms: perfectly roasted with a delicious Parmesean sauce Cabbage: had a similar sauce as the mushrooms, nicely charred though didn't care about the ribs and innards of the cabbage Ricotta anglotti: well-textured pasta with herbs and a broth, the chopped pork was not salty--this heavily lacked a salty element that should have come from the pork, the broth was flavorless Kid's cheese pizza: very huge for $12, more chewy than I would prefer compared to NY style but good cheese Pork secreto: pork had a roasted flavor, I enjoyed the sauce with this dish The cocktails and NA drink were also delicious. Overall, the food style is New American. The quality is not as high of a bar as Jeune et Jolie but is in the same vibe and more casual. read more

First time here! The pepperoni pizza was very fresh, crispy, chewy, flavorful, and also, the outside part of the crust was super soft and delicious. Good service, nice atmosphere with upbeat music. It was very bright and cheerful, and I had a great experience today. read more
Stunning and open interior with all the modern flare, but overall the food has this falling short of being top tier. Burrata is $14 for two pieces of thick cut, house made toasted bread, with one piece of prosciutto each. The toast was a little burned as well. My hanger steak was cooked to an excellent medium rare temperature, but as a dish, it felt incomplete. Just a protein with a lemony vinaigrette and julienned celery stalk and leaves left me thinking this should be accompanied by something more. My wife's spaghetti and clams (not pictured) were okay, but she said it was a little too spicy. Maybe we'll try this again in a couple months to see how things are going because it's really a nice restaurant. read more
From what I understand, this is a new restaurant in Carlsbad. It's pretty casual with indoor and outdoor seating. Wonderful sandwiches made with the most amazing bread. I had a slice of pizza that my friends ordered and ir was spicy and delicious! You order at the counter here and friendly crew members deliver your food. read more

I had really high expectations and it didn't live upto it Ambience: you can reserve via OpenTable, no fee. But they generally show no/limited slots over weekends. There is free street parking, easy access to patio and toilets. We went in on Saturday at 5 pm and the inside was empty, we asked if we could be seated inside and they said they didn't have any room. The dining room was half empty. We were seated outside according to what we booked but it was so hot and sunny. We checked again and they said they moved some reservations around and were able to seat us inside. We were grateful that they did because it was extremely sunny outside. But with a half empty dining room for the entire period we were there (90-100mins) it felt like they could have done that at the begining. Food: Was mid/average. It's good quality food but it's definitely not the best or great in terms of what we've had at the same price point. We got the margh pizza, sauce good but lacks cheese and bread was mid. We didn't get the bread/butter to start. Green goddess salad was good, we added protein but both chicken and fish felt really bland and not fresh/cold. Tiramisu was super eggy, chocolate cake was decent. Drinks were not good. None of them have any kick/% but are all priced at LA/SD $$. Service: Was good. No complaints. Overall, probably not worth the drive or effort. read more

What a great addition to Carlsbad! Everything we ordered was great, but my personal favorite was the Mafaldine. Glad we stumbled upon Wildland in Carlsbad. The restaurant has a cozy, inviting ambiance (inside)--perfect for a date night! We sat outside this time but will definitely be back to enjoy the charming indoor space. Food-wise, everything we tried was beautifully presented and delicious. The Bread & Butter was a simple yet satisfying start, and the Charred Maitake had a great depth of flavor. The star of the night for me was the Oxtail Rigatoni--rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. The Lemon Bucatini, however, wasn't my favorite; it wasn't bad, just not quite for me and probably wouldn't recommend it. Overall, Wildland delivers on atmosphere and quality ingredients. Our server was really great and had the perfect recommendations, Looking forward to returning for an indoor dining experience next time. read more
Super cute newer spot from the makers of Campfire and Jeune et Jolie. They're kinda taking over all of State St. This spot is kinda an in-between of classy casual. We went for dinner to check them out and I have to say the thing that stood out was the ricotta toast. I know it doesn't sound like much but what they did to that ricotta will blow your mind. The pasta dishes kinda confused me. The lemon pasta was a lot sweeter than I expected since it's Meyer lemons and the ragu was overpowered by the radicchio. I do want to check them out during the day for pastries and coffee! Excited to go back. read more

This place has such a nice vibe. It's spacious, clean, modern, and cute. You order at the counter and get a number for your table. Huge indoor space, including a private room. Outdoor seating also available. The avocado toast had guanciale and was delicious. This was probably the best avocado toast I've ever had. Everything about it was so flavorful. Great texture on the bread. Unfortunately , the shashuka missed the mark. It was too watery and quite one note. The chickpeas were also underdone. Americano was a little acidic. Drip coffee also slightly acidic but not as much as the Americano. The restrooms were nice as they were all individual full bathrooms vs a stall. Sink included in each. Parking could be found on the street or nearby at the train station. Plenty of parking on a Saturday morning around 930am. read more
The space is beautiful - I love all of the natural wood and it's instantly calming. We stopped by on a Monday for lunch and it wasn't too busy. We started with dessert first and had an almond croissant and a chocolate sesame cookie. I don't remember anything specific about the croissant other than it was flaky, but I loved the sesame seeds in the cookie. For our main entrees I had the summer grain bowl with chicken. It had tons of fresh charred veggies and pesto. It was super light and healthy! Portion was somewhat small though. My hubby had the pizza sandwich, which was mostly bread. It looked really good though. This would be a great place to meet for coffee and a snack or do some work! read more

Wildland is a solid a-ok. Order at the register, get a number, choose your table. Plentiful seating indoors. Smaller area outdoors with heat lamps. Self serve water stations with prefilled carafes, coffee accouterments, and extra plates make it easy to get what you need. The aesthetic is mostly wood and has a classy hipster vibe. We tried the pizza sandwich and steak & eggs for brunch. Pizza sandwich was with mortadella, which I learned is a higher quality bologna. Not a fan, but that's personal preference. It was good otherwise. The steak and eggs were tasty. It came with a parsley celery onion salad that was a bit overpowering, but again, just personal preference. Prices are on the higher side, but expected and aligned with the vibe and location. read more
The restaurant is so beautiful. Came here for a galentine. We didn't have reservations. They said 1 hour wait in a Saturday night at 550, but we got dated at 620 pm. They text message you. Make sure to check your phone. We didn't and we noticed at 650 pm that they texted us. The hostess was so nice and they were able to get us a table when they got a cancelation right away. Decor - so pretty! Clean and open and simple. Service - the staff are so nice! Every single one that we encountered was so polite and well communicative. Food - 1) very green salad - too much dressing. Loved the ingredients but wished we either asked for side dressing or wish they put less dressing. It was too rich and too salty. 2) turnip appetizer- it was good and nice to try but I wouldn't order it again 3) ricotta ang pasta - this was my favorite! However they only give you like 7 or 8 pasta noodles. I wish they put more in there. 5) mushroom appetizer- this was good and simple 6) chicken - the sauce was good. The bacon is so good just as recommended. The chicken was tender. Liked the dish. We are ordering all three desserts too. Overall, everything was great! read more
I've tried this place for breakfast twice and loved it both times. The servers are all friendly and accommodating of allergies. I asked about nuts in one of their dishes and the cashier ran to the back to confirm with the chef. The interior is massive, well decorated and very clean. The restrooms were also very clean. I ordered a cappuccino and the pizza sandwich. For a breakfast place, the espresso bar is pretty solid and they use beans from Steady State next door. The pizza sandwich was amazing. It's really heavy for breakfast, but so worth it. read more

I meant a colleague for lunch who lives in the area and she recommended Wildland. She told me they're the same owners as Campfire which I really love. We came at the end of January so it had only been open for a month or two I think but the menu is typical Carlsbad which is a good thing. Farm to Table fresh ingredients. Huge indoor space as well as nice front patio. Pastries looked at amazing! Staff was friendly and efficient. Highly recommend the chicken soup. I'm still dreaming about the savory lemony hearty yumminess. I had to try the smoked fish plate - you get to pick 3 to 6 different smoked fishes served with delicious crusty bread. She got a green salad which she really loved. And we split the olive oil cake which was light and sweet but not overly sweet. I cannot wait to come back here. read more

Stumbled upon this place and it was super cute and very aesthetic. We came on a weekend towards dinner time, so they were in the process of transitioning into their dinner menu. Because we came a little before dinner we did have the choice to either wait 30 minutes to be seated for "dinner" or order drinks and appetizers before ordering dinner. While waiting we ordered an espresso martini which was good. We then ordered a pizza and pasta and both tasted delicious. they had lots of outdoor and indoor seating which was nice. We'd recommend this place if you're bringing friends from out of town somewhere. They had lots of different options and nice vibes to have dinner with friends. read more
2nd attempt.... Pretty much a rinse and repeat of the first. Amazing location, beautiful decor, ambiance etc... That's about it. The setup is pretty bad and they forgot my food order again. Had to remind the waitstaff twice about it. They eventually figured out where it was and brought it to the table, of course the wrong item, they finally corrected and it was meh. After our a morning walk, we had a small breakfast at the newly established brunch spot, Wildland. They open at 0800 and it's perfect for early risers. Fresh open concept dining area and ordering takes place as you walk in and a number is given to your table. Outside patio is very dog friendly and plenty of room to spread out. We tried the Avocado Toast and Breakfast Sandwich. The Avocado Toast was delicious with fresh tomatoes, Guanciale (Italian cured meat), smashed avocado topped with a pasteurized fresh charred egg on a fresh roasted sourdough bread. The Fennel sausage in the Breakfast Sandwich was overly salted so order beware if you are adverse to salt. Charred egg was a nice touch! Bread was devine as they make all breads in house. Food prices have jumped along with all things inflation. Quantity isn't necessarily good quality. So far at Wildland, quality is impressive. Wildland was created by the chefs from Jeune et le and Campfire. read more

We have quite a few gluten free options! Just ask for a gluten free menu when you're here and we've got you covered!
How noisy is the restaurant in the evening?
I found the noise level in the evening to be perfect. The balance between the music and the crowd was spot-on, making it easy to have a conversation without raising your voice. Experience was lively yet comfortable.
Can a small dog come if it is in a dog stroller?
The patio is very dog friendly!
Is there wifi available here by any slight chance? 😅
Yes there is WiFi and plenty of space to sit and have your laptop inside and out.
Is their dinner full service or counter service?
Breakfast and lunch are counter service, dinner is full service. Lighting and music adjusted accordingly as well. They really nailed it over there. Enjoy!
Is this like a cafe? are we able to bring computers and work?
Yes definitely, outdoor seating would work as a cafe, similar to Lofty down the street. Indoors, there's tons of tables and spaces to use your laptop.
