Roast guinea fowl with fried polenta and carrot/cabbage "pilaf".
Marc G.

Interesting concept-the entire menu is a surprise. Select 3, 4 or 5 courses (dessert is always included as one course) and then select from vegetarian, fish/veg, or meat/fish/veg (chef's menu). We chose 4 courses, Chef's menu. Our starter was super tender julienned squid in a bright citrus sauce; the Chablis that we selected to drink went really well with it. The mid-course was a squash blossom stuffed with a monkfish quenelle in a light cream sauce, served with mini zucchini. The fish was delicate and juicy. The main was Guinea fowl with 2 sauces, fried polenta, and a vegetarian play on rice pilaf; carrots and cabbage cut to look like pilaf. Dessert was a chocolate dome with a creamy filling over a chocolate wafer, dusted with white chocolate powder. All in, with 2 glasses of wine and one plate of the house bread and butter (do NOT miss the bread and butter; it was some of the best we've ever had), dinner was 125 euro. Recommended for adventurous eaters looking for something different in Amsterdam.

First course Summed up Description: Calamari

We were on holiday and decided to celebrate a birthday dinner here! We chose the four course option and it was lovely. The food was presented nicely. Each dish had a wine pairing.. of course I tried them all. They were fabulous. My boyfriend enjoyed a few beers. The service was okay. They spoke English fluently and presented the meals well. However one of the waiters kept forgetting about us at the beginning. But his colleague was excellent and provided us with the menus, took our drink order + options. The ambiance is intimate. I loved the candlelight. i recommend it for smaller groups (no more than 4-6). I do think it is ideal for 1-3 people. At times it was difficult to hear for conversations due to overall noise in the space. This made it difficult to hear the descriptions of meals / waiter / company at dinner. Overall it was great & I'd go back! my boyfriend goes "I thought it was awesome"

Came here for a nice fancy meal on a Sunday night. This place allows you to choose 3, 4, or 5 courses. I'd recommend coming hungry so you can have more. I was only able to eat 3 courses, and regretted it because the middle courses I saw looked great. The main was pheasant, which I wasn't too impressed with even though the flavor itself is pretty good. The texture was just a bit too grainy for me. The dessert, a mandarin orange ice cream with crunchy Graham cracker crust, was the highlight for me. It was so flavorful! Service was a bit slow but it's okay as it is a busy place. The vibe inside is great. It is really well lit and the tables are nice. Overall, a good meal but not quite a great one. Perhaps having extra courses or a different main would have changed my mind.

It's a lovely modern restaurant that has been in the area for a good few years. They serve a 3-4-5 course menu including a vegetarian option. The menu is chosen by the chef and changes based on what's in season. The wine list is also decent here and they have a few house cocktails. The food here is ok, nothing special if you ask me. The fish course and dessert was great, but for me, the venison just did not work. It needed a bit of umph and a deeper flavoured jus. It was really quite bland for me. Friendly staff and quick and friendly service. Overall a lovely evening with great company and I may come back and give this place another go. It's cosy and has a lovely open kitchen.

Amazing prix fixe dinner from start to finish! The service, the food, the wine pairing!! We had a lovely evening and enjoyed the mix of seafood, fowl, and vegetables!! Last time we were in Amsterdam I found the food to be heavy and boring and my boyfriend found this place and it totally changed my view of the food scene in Amsterdam!

Price of 4 course chef dinner for two with a wine pairing each course.

This restaurant is perfect for a date! Boyfriend took me here based on our hotel's recommendations listed on their map guide. The price "per table" means cost per person. The free bread was delicious! Would've definitely asked for seconds but I'm trying to cut down on the carbs. We ordered the chef's 4 course dinner with wine pairings for each course which was super fun! All courses came beautifully plated. First course was a white fish dish, which was my fav out of all of them. Cooked to perfection and the flavors complimented each other well. Second course was a crispy fish with lentils. The several lentils floating in the sauce gave me tryptophobia so that was a bit off putting but that's just a personal thing for me. Third course was duck which was tender and flavorful. Last course was a deconstructed pear dessert which was excellent. Came with sorbet too and real fruit pieces. Price was not cheap but this is a great place to splurge a little if you're into that. Came out to about ~$140 USD for two which isn't that bad considering we had 4 hefty glasses of wine each (8 glasses between the both of us). Definitely check this restaurant out if you don't mind spending a bit on a nice dinner!

Mackerel with cauliflower, was worried this would be very "fishy" but was mild, almost like a white fish (cod, etc)

I was nervous about not knowing what the fixed menu was, and the waiter didn't really give us any detail but boy did I enjoy the food we got. We did the three course fixed meal and everything was absolutely amazing. Kind of glad to have gone in blind. Highly recommend, 100/10

It's been more than a week since I got back from Amsterdam and I'm still pondering how to find the right words to express my love for this restaurant. Let's put it this way, when my fish du jour arrived at the table, I went completely silent for 15 mins while savoring the closest moment I'd ever get to heaven. I only returned to earth after the last drop of the broth had been finished. The dish had incredible flavors that came from the freshness of the seafood and a touch of magic spell from the chef. The service was excellent. Our waiter brought over another glass of bubbly without complains after we had spilled and broke the first glass. Sorryyy... The restaurant itself is located at the outskirt of the touristy old town, but it's an easy 10 min walk from Brouwerij't Ij. Not sure if the flight of beer I had at the brewery had any influence on my palate or how I felt about the restaurant, but thought I'd bring it up anyways. Definitely stop by Brouwerij't Ij for some local beer before or after dinner. It's totally worth to venture out and explore this lovely neighborhood. Without a reservation on a Sunday night, we were lucky to secure a table by the window to enjoy the sunset and soak up the beautiful view Amsterdam has to offer. I miss it already!

This place makes us want to get back to Amsterdam. We ordered the four course chef's menu. One of us had the pescatarian version. We made a reservation by email. It was delightful. The staff were charming. The dishes were incredible. For my starter drink, I had ginger ale and genever. The first course was fish soaked in rhubarb syrup with squid, potato, fennel, dill oil. The second course was the best mushroom soup. I mean, THE BEST. With smoked fish. Dear god. The third for spouse was beef, and mine was fish, lentils, mussels, butter beans, green beans. The dessert was ice cream, whey foam, liquor-soaked cherries, blueberries, sponge cake soaked in cherry genever, with raspberry coulis. IT WAS SO GOOD. It felt like a nice neighborhood joint, as most people seemed to be speaking Dutch. It was delightful.

Ribeye grilled in the green egg

Wilde Zwijnen lies in the East side of Amsterdam and I must say it is definitely worth to visit it! One friend of mine lives in Amsterdam West and complained that he needed to cycle that far to get to the place, but in the end he said that it was worth it...! I reserved the table about 2 days in advanced and after the waitress friendly welcomed me and brought me to the table, I was surprised that my name was written on the wooden table :) The place is pretty cozy with a open kitchen and it has a great ambience with candles all over the place. The menu was good and after the recommendation of Kim V. we haven chosen for a 3 courses Chef's Menu which has a good price: 30,50 euro's. First course: Seabarse with broccoli/ creme sauce Main course: Ribeye, which is grilled in their 'green egg'! Dessert: Lovely chocolate mousse with crunchy cookies and whipped cream I give it 4 stars in stead of 5 stars, because actually the main course was a bit small and no potatoes were included. Luckily we asked for some extra potatoes to have a full meal. However, I definitely will be back in the near future to have another try of their other dishes from their menu! So one more time: Try their meat which is grilled in their 'green egg'! The meat was grilled but still very juicy inside - sooo gooood!

reserved table!

Oh, wow. This new-Dutch cuisine restaurant left me pretty amazed. I reckon it's my favorite in Amsterdam to date. Tucked behind the enormous Badhuis, this corner restaurant has all the right stuff - a beautifully refurbished interior, wooden tables, your name in chalk if you reserve, delicious game, veggie options AND it's incredibly reasonably priced. How is this place not constantly booked? We ordered the veal and ravioli appetizers. The veal was beautiful, soft, and delicately garnished. The ravioli was in what tasted like hollandaise - delicious buttery sauce. For our main courses, we had the pork and lamb - both of which were excellent. 2 bottles of wine and all that meat... we were too stuffed for dessert. But we're coming back for it! Would go back again and again. Loves it.

We were able to get seated right on the window area. We chose menu 5, which was just enough for two people. Everything was delicious! Their pea soup is out of this world. And their bitterballen was just enough bite. Creamy and crispy! We also got a combination of the hutspot. They were all delicious! Although for me the meatball was just a tad bit salty but it is probably just me! Everything else was spot on. I love their dessert at the end. It was a great way to end the night. We did not have one but they were happy to seat the 2 of us and invited us to switch tables once another couple left (they were checking out). Small space, can accommodate groups of 2-4, cozy atmosphere, lots of the traditional blue and white ceramics on the wall (dishes and tiles). Traditional Dutch cuisine: we ordered the Boerenkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and Zuurkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and a slice of apple pie to share for dessert. The food arrived piping hot in about 20 minutes. It was sooo delicious--the tasty juicy sausage pairs perfectly the mashed potatoes with either sauerkraut or kale. The apple pie was also tasty--larger chunks of apple and more spices less sugar than American apple pie from what I can tell. Perfect with whipped cream. A must visit if you're in Amsterdam and want to try traditional fare. Highly recommended!

You will not believe it is complimentary as a Hotel V guest. A big factor in deciding to book with Hotel V was their breakfast service. It is à la carte style. As you enter, you are warmly received and brought to a candlelit table. You choose your hot drink, juice, main, and choice of sweets. Thankfully I was able to explore the breakfast menu and bring recommendations: Hot drink: cannot go wrong with any choice. Craftful latte, excellent full-body espresso, milk foamed to perfection. Juice: order the freshly pressed orange juice. Main: totally blown away by the eggs Florentine and eggs Benedict. Hollandaise sauce is the best I've tasted. Also recommend the bacon, scrambled eggs, and toast. Eggs are fluffy and a little runny - just like how Chef Ramsay makes them! I'm from Canada and their bacon is unlike anything I've ever had. Salty, a little tougher, satisfying. Lastly, order the English breakfast and you'll feel fueled for a long day of tourist duties. Sweets: do yourself favor and trust me when I say, order the french toast. Unreal. After you try the french toast, order the pancakes. Blueberry or banana and bacon. Trust me on this one!

Came here with a group of colleagues, as Jacobsz had been recommended. The restaurant was quite spacious, and there were not many diners on the Tuesday night of our visit (later found out there was a big football match). The service was exceedingly professional, despite a very laid back look. Very friendly and also extremely knowledgeable, and our waiter helped a lot with dish selection and explanation. We all ordered the four course option. Looking at the menu I had my doubts about enjoying the meal, but I was wrong. Again, dishes are listed as the four or so main ingredients in the dish, with no other descriptors. I ordered the Yellowfin Tuna starter, Iberico Presa as the "Between", Gnocchi as my main course, and the cheese. Wow. The tuna was rare and cut into ceviche-sized pieces, paired with other ingredients and served on a sort of tomato broth base. It was fresh and delicious. Everything worked so well together (theme of all the dishes). Others in my group had either the cauliflower or duck confit, and all thought those were wonderful as well. The Iberico Presa was a slow cooked cut of pork, and it was maybe the slightly lower point in the meal, as the pork was not as tender as I would have preferred. The rich sauce and onion really complimented the pork, though. My main was the Gnocchi, and it looked unlike any I've ever seen. In fact, when the dish was set down I could not tell that it was Gnocchi, as the gnocchi itself was covered with a crunchy...something! Not sure what it was, but again everything was delicious! The Gnocchi were plated with red chicory, and also had garlic and puntarelle. A wonderful dish. A perfect cheese plate to finish our fabulous meal. We all talked about this place.
