Well, after dinner at Wild Ginger tonight (a restaurant I have attended and ordered-in from for the past 10 years) I have concluded that I will never attend the restaurant EVER again IN MY LIFE, nor order delivery - simply because I never want them to have another one of my heard earned dollars again ever, as they do not deserve it, as I will explain below...
After being sat as a party of 3 at 10:00p.m. (restaurant closes at 11) we were quickly reminded that the kitchen closes at 11pm - this was fair and actually nice of the maitre d, my buddy got up to go to the bathroom. The water (who sat us) then approached and asked if we were ready to order..clearly not, as we had just sat down, and a member of our party was missing...mind you, this was only the beginning.
Though I will say the food was good, the service was so terrible that I would not even feed their "lovely Asian fusion" menu to my dog.
So, after switching from the ridiculously stupid original waiter, to another waiter, and finally to the maitre d herself, service still sucked...
My main point is the following: after receiving the check, and splitting it on two cards - which by the way, you would've thought it was the first time they ever had to do such a challenging act! I decided to do two things that I never do. 1. I stiffed them on the tip. 2. I left my notes on receipt. My notes included the following (Before I type out my notes, please understand the level of frustration I was in. Not only was I experiencing TERRIBLE service from a restaurant I ABSOLUTELY LOVED FOR YEARS, but I was also victim to extreme stereotyping. My outfit, as well as one other people in my party, consisted of a high fashion designer t-shirt, jeans, sneakers, and "snap back hat." Now, here are my "notes," left on my recipt...
"Wild Ginger has truly disgusted me tonight from the moment I walked in. I was rushed to order. I was judged based on my appearance." Wearing a hat put the "'he's a young 20 something who won't leave a good tip anyway. Treat him like a high school kid.'" Well, no. I'm actually a young entrepreneur. I work as Director of Marketing at a major Media company based in Manhattan. In addition, I am the CEO of a Hip-Hop Management company, representing New York's most up-and-coming artists in the five boroughs. Come to think of it, I wish my hat and t-shirt had my companies names and progress I've made on them...**sigh**!!!!! Well, after leaving my notes which also included "maybe this will be a wake up call not to do as you did tonight. I guess you don't believe in the old "the customer is always right," saying. Funny, I believe restaurants have been made or broken based on their application to such a simple saying...best of luck to you in your future, hah!"
NOW: being that all employees left cleaning up (as we walked out, BEFORE THE KITCHEN EVEN CLOSED AT 10:50( were all individuals that had English listed as tehir second lesson on an their SAT form, just kidding, clearly none of them were here to take the SAT. For the record, I'm a white Jew. I'm far from racist. Some of my best friends are black, so please don't take this that rout...I have TRUE FAMILY to prove it! In conclusion, I pulled the bartender away with a simple head-nod to follow me outside. As he unerstood and complied after finishing making the alcoholics drink whom he was serving, he came and met myself, alogn with my two friends outside. I explianed to him what happned. To my, his, and my friends surprise, at this time we realized the waiter mustve clearly read my notes on the receipt...AS HE WAS AT THE DOOR TRYING TO COME OUTSIDE AND CLEARLY FIGHT ME WHILE HIS CO-WORKERS HELD HIM BACK. Standing my ground, the polite bartender asked me to please get in my friends car, conveniently parked right in front. I did so, not because I am a wuss, but because I felt bad for the one nice man who worked at an establishedment I had respect for a bit over an hour ago. Oh - while pulling away, the "tough" waiter attempted to come outside, although the door was locked...he must've forgotten his keys elsewhere....LOL, please...
Well, in true conclusion. Here is what I have to say
Wild Ginger, DON'T GO THERE!
They are lucky that I did not call the police on their "restaurant" and explain in detail. Oh by the way, this was not an explanation in detail, I left out 2/3 of the story. Those were the boring details. When I made my call back to say this, one of the waiters picked up, and hung up before I could sarcastically say, "well thanks for the beautiful evening!" **Sigh, again**...just kidding with all of the sigh's by the way, what a shame.
Who runs "Shame on you* ? I forget his name, but you best believe I will be getting in touch with him about a stereotypical Asian-Fusion restaurant. Wild Ginger: DO NOT ATTEND! IT SUCKS! BYE! read more
