Stopped in for dinner last evening, after taking our son back to college. When first entering you see that the decor is tired and dated. Not ugly or anything, just in need of some attention. It took almost 5 minutes for anyone to show up to seat us, and the customer service was less than enthusiastic. Started with soups and dumplings. All were good, although the dumplings were just carelessly tossed onto a plate -- no garnish, no attention to presentation at all. Soups come in a ball twice the size of the soup; we were guessing a large order gets filled to the top. Again, presentation. Entrees were sort of bland. Not bad, but bland. We had the Thai Basil Chicken and the Szechuan Delight [chicken, beef, shrimp]. Shrimp was obviously frozen and tasted a little off, maybe freezer-burnt? Vegetables were fine, as was the chicken and beef. Just nothing at all memorable. There is certainly potential, but we probably won't be back. read more

I have been here once and the food was good quality but most of the others on the table did not like it much. Sushi was just not that great, wasabi was so mild that you can eat a spoon ful. The atmosphere was an "A" for Wooster. It could be a nice date place if the service wasn't a "D-". Simply unacceptable. We arrived at 7:15pm on a Friday night. It wasn't very busy, but it took 5 minutes for anyone to notice us. The boy who took us to our seats was unkempt, needed a shower, and to pull up his pants. Not interested in seeing his nasty flannel boxers. He proceeded to offer us the worst seat in the house next to the kitchen entrance and utensil server station. I asked for a booth and got moved. The waitress with the short mullet seemed fine at first. By the end of our meal, I was so sick of waiting for her I wanted to go swipe our card myself... Instead, I watched her take our check and then go and shoot the shit with some guy at the bar for ten more minutes of hell. We put in our order of steamed pork dumplings, general tso's chicken, and a scorpion roll. It took 45 minutes to get our dumplings! I know this isn't a fast food joint, but that is ridiculous. The general tso's tasted like the just used their tempura batter. It was crispy, but not right for the dish. If we had wanted tempura chicken we would have ordered it. Save yourself $10 and get the chicken nuggets at Wendy's with sweet and sour sauce. The taste profiles are almost identical. My scorpion roll (shrimp tempura with carrot, avocado, lettuce, and spicy sauce) was okay besides they used an over ripe rotting avocado on it. The service was the biggest offense. I've been here a good handful of times over the years. I pretty much always order curry or sushi. And it has always been good. Most recently, just the other night, I ordered an order of spicy salmon and an order of the spicy California sushi. They were both great. My Dr. Pepper also tasted great. And I tasted three of the different flavored teas from others in my party and although I normally prefer the sweetened southern style tea flavor, they were still pretty decent. First of all: it bothers me that there has been a sign outside of Wild Ginger China Bistro that says "half price sushi." It has been there since I moved here in the summer of 2010. The atmosphere is quite nice for Wooster (meaning that I would not think twice about it in a mid sized city, but in Wooster it sticks out as a nice clean atmosphere). The food is good too. Last time I was there, four of us ate. All four of us have very different preferences, and all four of us were satisfied (with the exception of the inedible seaweed salad). One is a formally trained chef while the other is an self-trained food genius, so when they are happy, I am always pleased as well. Unfortunately, the service that I received was similar to that of the others who reviewed this establishment. Waitresses wore jeans and hoodies (which does not fit the decor) and it was difficult to figure out exactly who worked there. No one greeted us at the door nor was anyone particularly rushed to seat us after we were identified as paying customers. Diners on the way to the bathroom seemed more purposeful than the waitstaff. I will be honest. I kind of dig the hole in the wall Chinese restaurants. Sticky tables have never really bothered me (they are ok in Taiwan, why not in the US?). So I figure that if I am going to pay twice as much for the food at Wild Ginger than at Asian Wok, then the food should be at least as good and the service should be better. I will continue to eat here, but only because options are limited in Wooster. read more

My good friend and I went to Wild Ginger randomly for his birthday a few weeks ago. From the outside, it looks rather fancy. On the inside, the decor is nice, but I was kind of disappointed. A good thing though was that the prices are very reasonable. I ordered szechwan green beans with sweet onions & mushrooms. Talk about a huge portion! It was delicious too! The server was very friendly and helped me choose between a couple things based on my preferences. Unfortunately, she seemed kind of pushy for us to leave. She brought the check before we were even done eating, and didn't ask if we wanted anything else. She kept walking past to see if we had our money out. I could see if it was close to closing ... but it was barely 9 pm, and they close at 10. I'm a server and I know how it can be, but come on. Other than that, the food was great, prepared quickly, and the price was good. I will definitely be going back. One of my favorite Chinese places! It's good to eat in, because the building is really neat with lots of light, but they also have a drive through which is really convenient if you're out running errands! The crab Rangoon's and eggrolls are delicious. Their fried rice is really good, and the General Tso's chicken is the best. Light, crispy and the sauce is perfect. Absolute worst lunch experience I have had in Wooster . The waitress Could barely speak English had a hard time taking our order . There was three of us and we need it separate checks and we had a 18 month old. We all ordered lunch, soup, and sushi and fries for the child. The food came out of order and incorrect, wrong sushi, wrong soups, the meals were wrong, we tried to eat them as we believed it would be easier to try to eat it then to send it back . We had to remove our dishes from the table and put them on an empty table , we only got 1 drink refill . The frys never came for my granddaughter and we asked for a crackers to try and give her some soup the waitress didn't know what crackers were, but after our to go boxes were delivered, so was some old green frys. Our bills were wrong and she couldn't fix them , we finally gave up and left, wrote note on credit card slip " bad service, wrong bill . Yesterday was our 1st and last visit. Our group of 6 adults met here on a Saturday at 1pm. There were only 2 other tables filled. At lunch time. On a Saturday. We should have taken the hint. We were seated right away at a large, round table. So far, so good. Then the server came over and LITERALLY dropped the menus in a pile on the table. 5 minutes later she took our drink orders. 10 minutes later she took our food orders. We had questions, she couldn't answer them. It appeared that she couldn't understand our English. Twice she went to another server for answers. She didn't understand the phrase "gluten free". Finally we said, if you don't want this customer to go to the hospital, she needs a plate with NO WHEAT. Server had No idea that soy sauce had gluten in it. Worst service I've ever experienced in my life. Not only were interrupted by the our server, we were only visited once to see how our meal was and that was when she brought us our check! Only the dirty plates were picked up until the end of the meal and then when commented about it she complained that "well I was busy".
