[REVIEW WRITTEN: 02 June 2025] HELL YESSS to freshly made noodle. OMG, so yum in the tum! Service was excellent and every time they have been over the top friendly! :) Make me just want to go back for their customer service. The deets: + FRESH NOODS. Get any dish that had fresh noodles, they are chewy and scrumptious. +/- There is outdoor and indoor seating available. It's on the smaller side of restaurant, so there may be a wait. Wild Ginger - H2. Pork Zha Jiang in Sauce - Chinese Near Me - Alameda, California

One of our favorite places to eat. Only sad experience is we ordered cumin lamb for takeout and there was zero meat. So check your takeout. They offered to replace but we live too far away to go back. But flavor is great. Ambience could be better. One minor thing, the lady who took the order doesn't understand English. I asked about a question about tofu and she added tofu to my order :) and charged for it, when I was trying to avoid tofu. read more

I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars because everything here was delicious and my experience every time coming here has been so great. I've been here a few times and one time the owner or cook came up to our table to recommend some items and talk about the type of food he serves. They're very nice people and very generous, especially when I came by on a slow Wednesday for a solo dinner and I was pretty hungry so I ordered a few new dishes I haven't tried before. I ordered the spicy tingly beef noodle soup, the lamb in sauce dumplings, and the ruo jia mo stewed pork slider and I was also offered a bit of their liang pi cold noodle on the house which I commend on them for going beyond their service and hospitality. The noodle soup was presented so well and the dumplings sauce was so good that I poured some into my broth for extra flavor. The slider was so moist and fresh, juice was literally dripping off each bite and the cucumbers in it gave it a good crunchy texture. In the end I would come back anytime and order the same and perhaps try their malatang! read more

The dumplings were really good. The stewed pork was not what I was expecting but was still good. The broth was light. I just wish the veggies were cooked. They said it came with cabbage but I'm pretty sure that was romaine lettuce... The hand pulled noodles were very good. read more

I ordered: Spicy cumin lamb in sauce Malatang The malatang was interesting... I wasn't sure what to expect. I will say as a plus they gave me a LOT. Like it took two large containers to put it all in. The noodles special of Bang Bang were good too. Actual soup though was... ok? Nothing I would want to have again sadly k can't describe it. To me it was like eating a soup version of CHINISE pepper sauce. The lamb dish was just okay too. Nothing too special. Nothing too bad I guess either. It's just... nothing screamed at me to eat here again and add to my rotation of foods. 3/5 Might rate higher if the type of food tickles your pickle. read more

Coworkers been recommending this place for awhile so I finally decided to try it. It's crazy how their prices doubled since the pandemic. The food was still good especially the noodles texture. I ordered their lamb malatang mild spicy. It was still pretty spicy to me but my tolerance is pretty bad. Anyway, it had a good amount of toppings. I wish they gave a bit more noodles though. You can hear the chef prepare the noodles while you eat. I guess that added to the overall ambiance. It's really a no frills noodle house. Service was decent as well. read more

Family birthday celebration was the best at Wild Ginger tonight. We enjoyed many cold appetizers including the spicy cucumbers, cold noodles, cold beef and cucumber and also hot soups flavored with fish, beef or pork toppings. We loved that you can order your dishes without spice, mild spicy and spicy spicy. Larry the owner and his staff were amazing to our group. It's the perfect place for casual dining or family and friends gathering. We absolutely loved it and will be back again soon! read more

My friends and I came on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't very busy. We got two dishes to share which was perfect. The beef malatang was good but not traditional malatang. The noodles were very good because they were nice and thick but there was not a lot of meat in my opinion. We also got the pork zha jiang which was good but I wished there was more flavor. I loved the bean sprouts in the dish. I don't know if I'd come back but it was good to try! read more

Excellent Noodles that are made from scratch! I loved watching the chef bang the noodle dough and separate them into individual strands of noodles. The noodles were thick and chewy! The complementary noodles were my favorite. It was a cold noodle made with garlic, chili oil, and vinegar. Very refreshing and flavorful!! I ordered the curry noodles and my dad ordered the cumin lamb noodles. Both were good but the cumin lamb was best. The cold noodles were so good that I ordered it to go. I ate it for lunch the next day! They keep the noodles and sauces separated until ready to eat that way the noodles don't swell and absorb the sauce over time. For lunch, I just poured the sauces into the container of noodles and gently shook it up. It was very delicious! The cold noodles are flavorful and refreshing! read more

My sister found out about Wild Ginger through social media. We were in the area so decided to swing by pretty close to when they opened at 11. I'm not sure if they offer on the house noodles to everyone, but they were gracious enough to give us some. It definitely started our meal off right! The flavors were off the hook! As our appetizer to share, we got Ds1 (pork dumplings in soup). The pork dumplings were so flavorful and juicy. The soup had an interesting sour taste, but we thoroughly enjoyed it! For my main, I order H2 (pork zha jiang). It was literally so delicious and filling. The hand pulled biang biang noodles were out of this world! The combo of the noodles with the pork, cucumbers and sauce were incredible! I'd come back for just that! The owners were super sweet and the service was fast! If you want some food made with love, this is the spot to go to! read more

We came right when they opened and were greeted with the most kind and welcoming smiles from the owners themselves. They were working the place together when we came in and were so sweet! I heard about this place from a foodie tik toker I follow. It was my first time having hand pulled noodles and I was definitely not disappointed! I couldn't have been happier with my experience! The place itself is so cute and its a smaller more intimate place. The owners were very quick and attentive as soon as we sat down! I highly recommend and can't wait to come back! :) read more

Got the spicy tingling beef noodle soup and split it. Perfect portion to share if you aren't too hungry. The soup was piping hot, clean and flavorful both, nice tender pieces of beef, and deliciously chewy noodles. Yum! Service was attentive and our server came to fill our water often. It's a small space but efficient and quick service. read more

This will be my last and final review of Wild Ginger unless something changes drastically. They truly deserve their five stars especially when they are on top of their game. The malatang here is truly something special and is absolutely amazing. It was hefty, and full of hidden surprises. The bowl of fresh hand cut noodles came with what seemed like an endless amount of toppings ranging from beef, tofu, rice cakes, to even seaweed. Im sure I didn't even cover all of the things that were in it because it came with so much. Also, this was my first time trying malatang and for those who haven't tried it either I highly recommend it. The spices numb your tongue in a good way, creating a unique taste and experience to the dish. Overall, highly recommend Wild Ginger. read more

More like a 3.5? Noodles were really good! You can hear the biang biang from the kitchen. It had a really nice chew. The Liang pi was refreshing. It was a little more vinegary than I'd like but still good. The owners were nice enough to give us free cucumber salad. This one was on the sweeter side. The beef noodle soup was ok. The broth was pretty light and could have used more depth/spices. Same with the lamb in sauce. The sauce wasn't very thick and was also lacking in some more depth/spices. The highlight was definitely the noodles. I think if they work on balancing the flavors it will be even better. read more

Great small restaurant that a coworker recommended me. I really enjoyed everything they had to offer. The hospitality of the staff is great. They are very attentive and giving. I assume she was the owner, we were given a free cucumber salad in their signature chili oil sauce that they make and sell separately. The hand pulled noodles were great! I can't complain about anything on the dish. The pork dumplings were great too. It had a sweetness to it that I can't pinpoint but it was delicious. read more

Wild Ginger is a small restaurant I would advise to come early if you want seats. The staff is really sweet and gave great recommendations for our first time. We got the Pork Zha Jiang noodles, Pork dumplings, and Spicy cucumber salad. The noodles were very fresh, but would've loved to get more sauce on them. I should've asked for more sauce so that was on me. My favorite dish out of all of them would have to be the pork dumplings they were absolutely perfect! I would skip out on the spicy cucumber salad next time they were just okay to me. Definitely will come back and try more dishes. read more

Casual family-run joint with great food! You can hear the fresh handmade Biang Biang noodles banging on the table and expect your food to come out soon after. Our server Tammy provided great service and was super helpful. Spicy Cucumber Salad was refreshing with a hint of sesame and complimented the Biang Biang noodles really well! The noodles were a super enjoyable level of spicy and the perfect chewiness. We got a sample of the cold noodles Liang Pi and they were super tasty -- refreshing with a strong sesame peanut taste! I've been before and I will be back again read more

We got take out and here is how it scored. Pork Noodles 4/5: the dish was pretty good and the pork really paired well with the cucumbers. Lamb Dumplings in Sauce 4/5: this dish was very good. Cold Vegan Noodles 3.5/5: a good dish but not great Cumin Lamb Noodles 2.5: not much lamb and not much cumin. :-( Their biang biang are thicker and chewier than other Xian joints. A little hard to get a serving out of the bowl. I think it would be better dine in. read more

Solid place, no issues just not like wow my socks off. (4 stars is good ok?!) I came on a Thursday for lunch and was able to be seated right away. Service was quick and fast. I ordered the zha jiang noodles (no/mild spicy - only 1 spice level, can't customize) as I wanted a dry noodle. Their hand-pulled noodles were freaking amazing, so Q and just the perfect amount of chewiness. I love good fat noodle pieces. The zha jiang sauce was also really good and the ratio was actually really good too for sauce to noodles! That's not common! I would come back if I were in Alameda! read more

Came on Saturday around 6pm, and since there isn't a large seating area inside, we took the last table. Even though it's small, their menu and customer service made up for a great dinner experience for us. My husband absolutely loves beef noodle soup from places such as One Piece Lamien and Highland Noodles. He wanted to try the one here as well but was worried it would be too spicy. Fortunately, the server let us know we could have it made non-spicy! It was a relief and I was happy with that option as some places have the dish at an unadjustable spice level. I got the dry ja jiang noodle. We considered getting lamb dumplings as well but we'll get that next time. The food came out within 5 minutes. Before it came out, since we were sitting right next to the kitchen, we saw the chef handling the noodles, pulling and slapping it against the table, and that was pretty cool. The jajiang noodles are pretty good. I asked for it to be mild and it was mild enough that my husband enjoyed it as well. As for the beef noodle soup, the broth is not super flavorful but not bad. Our only complaint with it is that it only had about 3 pieces of meat inside. Coming from the South Bay, we were not disappointed with the food and experience here at Wild Ginger. Will definitely come again! read more

Bang bank noodles with Spicy lamb broth is my go to! Yumm. Their cucumber salad is a delight also!

The food was truly delicious! Order: H1. Spicy Cumin Lamb in Sauce, D2. Lamb Dumplings in Sauce, and S1. Spicy Cucumber Salad. Everything was fresh and amazing. By far the best dumplings and noodles I've tried. The spicy cucumber salad is spicy so ensure your spice tolerance is high. The cumin lamb in sauce is medium spice and the lamb dumplings as well. The sauces on both terrific! Overall the food was PHENOMENAL. I love the freshness and taste of everything. I love that they had beef and lamb options not too many vegetarian options but do have a few options. The service was great. Servers were attentive and helpful when asked about the menu. The server was very knowledgeable about the menu and recommended best items. Ambiance this place is small with limited tables. Definitely get there right when they open so you can have a table. The place did not have AC so it was extremely hot and the spice made it even hotter. That's about the only bad thing I have to say about the restaurant. Everything else was amazing. Definitely recommend! read more

Came here near closing after pickleball for dinner refuel and this place hit the spot :) FOOD: they are know for the biang biang/hand pulled noodles and mala dishes (numbing spice). Most of the noodles dishes come with the same type of noodles but served in different sauces or soup. - cold cucumber: this was on the house and was your classic cold cucumber salad. thank you! - Pork Dumplings: these are solid dumplings with a good crunch and nice sauce to pair with it. Pretty standard dumpling dish - Cold Noodles: this was more of an appetizer in my opinion because it's on the smaller side and came with tofu and sliced cucumbers and cilantro. I really enjoyed this dish and would be great on a hot day - Lamb Cumin Sauce noodles: a little soupy but mostly saucey. My BF and out friend really enjoyed this dish as it was flavorful and loved the texture of the noodles and the cabbages it came with - Jiang Ja Pork Noodles: this was my favorite dish. Loved pork sauce and bits of ground pork + cucumbers. SERVICE: This is run by a mom and pop (and their daughter). very friendly family AMBIANCE: This restaurant is very small. Mostly with tables seating around 2-6, although when we arrived there was a party that occupied half the restaurant. Overall, would definitely return if I'm craving biang biang noodles! read more

Overall great food and service Liang Pi - cold skin, basically cold noodles with a spicy savory sauce and veggies. Refreshing and a dish that not many places have Mala Lamb - not as numbing as expected but definitely a comforting food on a rainy day The service was excellent, considerate, friendly and attentive (maybe the son of the owner? ) Would recommend if you are into spices! read more

Great hand pulled noodles are a treat worth traveling for. Thin, a bit all dente if you're lucky, coated with spicy oil and sell cooked meat. OMG. Wild Ginger has noodles that vary from thin to thick and doughy, mostly clumped together, often rolled into lumps. The sauce is not very spicy but thin and pleasant. What knocks them down to two stars is that although their price of $17 to $20 is not cheap, they put in miniscule protein. A small piece of meat is chopped into bits and tossed through the noodles. Picked out the meat, tossed most of the rest. read more

When I can hear the sound of the noodles being slapped against the tabletop, "biang biang", I have a feeling it's gonna be a good meal. Traditional to Xi'an, China, biang biang noodles are thick and long, pulled and stretched by hand. I truly did not expect to find a place in the Bay with this on its menu, let alone paying homage to the noodles' origins. I fully intended to order one bowl of noodles to share but of course, we ended up with: Spicy Cumin Lamb in Sauce (biang biang noodles) Pork Dumplings in Sauce Stewed Pork Slider (rou jia mo) I'm not normally a thick noodle girl, but these were delicious. Great chew and a bowl full of flavor. Dumplings were great; LOVE the sauce. The slider was juicy, as it should be. (It's weird to call it a slider lol the literal translation of "rou jia mo" is "meat within bread"). Service was quick and there are a decent number of tables inside with a few outside. Restroom is through the back, behind the kitchen. Would definitely recommend! read more

What a lovely place! My food was ready, the woman at the counter had a charming smile, and it was delicious!

3.5/5 rating I was craving for hand pulled noodles with some type of sauce and decided to come to Wild Ginger. It's been a few years since I visited but I've also recently heard from others about their positive experience at Wild Ginger. My husband and I ordered 2 dishes, the fish malatang for him and spicy cumin lamb in sauce for me. It was about $50 for the 2 of us after tip but unfortunately neither of us felt satisfied after. the portion of the noodles are generous but the flavors could be more enhanced. My spicy cumin lamb was slightly bland and for $19, I barely got any lamb strips in the bowl. The fish malatang was more worth the price with the amount of fish and vegetables provided. read more

The place has been on my to-try list for a while, but somehow we just haven't had a chance to dine here. But with Tuesday movie night plans with friends at Alameda Theater, we agreed to have dinner here beforehand. It's a small restaurant with about six or seven tables with one outside. Arriving at 5:30, we had our choice of tables. They specialize in dishes from Western regions of China and hand-ripped noodles. Menu includes dumplings, noodles, ramen, malatang, sliders, street foods and salads. Many of the dishes were listed as spicy. Our waitress answered our questions about the dishes we selected and its spicy level. But we all wanted to try the Biang Biang hand-ripped noodles. Pork Zha Jiang Biang Biang Noodles - the wide ribbons of thick chewy noodles were topped with a savory minced pork sauce, sliced cucumbers, bean sprouts, sesame and mild spice. First time trying these noodles. Compared to other noodles, probably not my favorite. Tasty savory pork sauce, but I probably prefer the sweetness of Korean jjajang sauce. Stewed Pork in Sauce Biang Biang Noodles - stewed pork with cabbage, mixed with cabbage, Sichuan pepper, soy sauce and black vinegar. Tried this and it was good with a vinegary taste. Spicy Cumin Lamb in Sauce Noodles - sautéed lamb and cabbage with cumin tossed with the noodles. Friend said she wished the sauce had stronger flavor. Happy to finally try the hand-ripped noodles here. Friend said the Biang Biang noodles were comparable to the shops in Queens. Wild Ginger makes a good option for Park St dining for Western Chinese cuisine. read more

I've heard high recommendations from friends to try this spot & I was not disappointed! My friends and I arrived right before the dinner rush, which we were then quickly seated in the cozy space and served water and menus. Everything on the menu looks good but the noodles are a must try. After we ordered, they were even kind enough to offer some spicy cucumbers on the house! I ordered the spicy hot oil seared (H3) and it was delicious! The hand pulled noodles are fresh, chewy, and bouncy whilst the hot chili oil with the greens balanced everything out & provided a slightly numbing spice that was addicting. We also shared the pork dumplings in sauce and the sauce was so good I could've drank it! The portions sizes are fairly generous & filling, so I will be able to enjoy my leftovers for lunch the next day as well! The meal was a great, comforting dinner for a chilly 60° evening. Will definitely be back again to try more things on the menu. read more

We were very quickly seated. Almost immediately we were given water and constant refills. The restaurant gives legitimate Korean vibes, with the cooks right behind the wall cooking the noodles. And the food, was fudging amazing! The chili oil is both savory, Smokey and slightly on the spicy side. I immediately asked for a bottle of it haha read more

If you're in downtown Alameda area, Wild Ginger sits along a busy street with boutiques, coffee shops, and other restaurants. It's a great place to stop in for a plate or bowl of spicy, hand-pulled noodles. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, depending on your preference. FOOD: We started with a plate of cold, spicy noodles, on the house! These noodles weren't their typical hand pulled ones, but the dish was tasty and a nice snack while we waited for our main dishes. For our mains, we ordered Spicy Cumin Lamb in Sauce, Spicy Tingly Beef in Soup, Spicy Curry Beef in Soup, and Lamb Dumplings in Sauce. The hand pulled noodles had a nice texture where they had some chew, but easy to break apart. Also, my noodles were the perfect amount of spiciness (they can adjust as you wish) and was quite flavorful. The dumplings were also a fan favorite in our group as it wasn't too spicy and the dumpling skin wasn't too thick. Lastly, Wild Ginger provides a very generous portion of food, which will undoubtedly leave you extremely full afterwards. SERVICE: It was kind of them to give us a free plate of cold noodles for no particular reason! Food also all came out at the same time and fairly quickly. Overall, a good experience. read more
