Found a hidden gem in Alameda for some authentic hand pulled noodles. The place is small with limited seating. The service was very quick. The staff was friendly. I got the spicy lamb cumin hand pulled noodles. There weren't really much meat in it, and the noodles were a little bit on a thicker side however, the flavor was great. If you like mala flavor, the spicy beef would be a good choice. The cucumber salad was very tasty. I definitely wanna come back to try their burgers.
Really great service but wow things have changed since we last came here. We ordered the lamb cumin dish- but there was little to no protein in this dish! Small teeny piece of lamb- I'm talking about less than a crouton size - for a dish that's almost $20, I think they can be more fair and generous with the lamb portions of this meal. The spicy beef sauce w/ noodle was soooo spicy and the depth of flavor wasn't really there. My partner ordered this and it was way too spicy for him, and I thought it was overly spicy also. I ate this as leftovers the next day and it really upset my stomach from lunch into the evening. Won't be ordering this again. Your mileage may vary- some people really love this place but I think I'll opt for other noodle places instead
Finally went to Wild Ginger! It took me a while because I was worried that it would be beyond my spice tolerance but I thought I should try and find out. Long story short, the food was so delicious! We got two items that seemed a bit less spicy, but overall it had the tingling spice and heat. We started with the cold noodle and then ended with the Dan Dan noodles and loved it all. We got lots of water, frequent check-ins with the staff, and it's a cozy but small space, so if you see a spot come on in! Will certainly be back!
Never any complains when dining at Wild Ginger. Service is incredibly friendly, kind, and efficient. The food is delicious and the ambiance is cozy. I've returned frequently for lunch/dinner and never have any issues.
I was craving hand pulled noodles and I heard this spot was popular for it so why not try it out. I ordered the M3 beef combo Malatang (Medium) spicy, they also gave me a free side dish on the house which was really nice of them. The hand pulled noodles were soo stretchy and chewy. The dish itself was very well balanced along with the spice. The side dish that they gave me was cool and refreshing. It complimented the noodle dish really well. Definitely recommend checking this spot out if you're into hand pulled noodles. Try it out if you like. :)
Been here several times! It will not disappoint!!! The pulled noodles and dumplings are my go to! The chile oil is sooooo good and they sell it in a jar to take home! We came for lunch and dined inside. It's a small little space that feels very cozy and we got the tiger salad with the pork dumplings and the lamb slider. It came with one, but these sliders are huge and well worth it. Located right off of Park Street where you can walk off your food in the neighborhood by visiting nearby shops. There is no parking lot but street parking in the neighborhood is available. The restaurant I believe is family owned and very friendly and helpful!
Visited this spot after a hike, and it was just what we needed! Refreshing appetizers and carbs. We shared the Spicy Cucumber Salad and the Spicy & Sour Pork Dumplings in Sauce as starters. The cucumbers were my favorite--refreshing and nicely pickled (sweet and tangy). The sauce in the cucumber salad had a lot of chili oil and peppers though, so warning to those with sensitive tummies. The dumplings were good, but the Cucumber Salad stood out more. For the main dish, I had the Spicy & Tingly Beef Soup. The beef was very flavorful, and the noodles were thick. However, the broth was a bit on the lighter side, balances out the beef. It would have been nice to have extra condiments available to adjust the flavor to taste. This is a good spot for your spicy cravings. Parking is a bit packed but not impossible- you might need to park a bit further and walk over to the area.
Small little shop located on Park St. Inside, there's a few tables so there might be a wait if it's busy. Service is very fast and food came out quickly. We ordered the pork dumplings and it was delicious! Loved the sauce it came in and the dumpling were good size. We also got the spicy tingly beef in sauce noodles and they were delicious. Noodles were bouncy and had a good bite to them. The beef was tender and good. The sauce itself was spicy and tingly but not too crazy in my opinion. Perfect level of heat and tingly. Overall, the menu is great and love that you can get soup or sauce. The dumplings are solid as well. Service was good and fast. Will be back!
Came here after an outing in Alameda since I was craving noodles. I found this small local restaurant that sold malatang and biang biang noodles. The noodles were made well however I wish it had more taste. It was bit bland in my opinion, I also got the cumin lamb but felt like there wasnt much lamb in it. It was a pretty average spot. I probably would not be back since there are other places that does have the similiar type of noodles with more flavor. Service was good though very attentive and quick.
The lady thats taking orders is rude and is very disrespectful, she slammed the menu on the table, she yelled at my face.
I was craving some spicy dumplings and decided to give Wild Ginger a shot. The place is small, but I went on a not so busy random weekday for lunch so there were tables available to sit at. I ordered the Lamb Burger and the Pork Dumplings in Spicy sauce and to my pleasant surprise - also received a most delicious complimentary cold noodle dish. The dumplings were good. I am biased in my review because the flavor wasn't exactly what I was craving for, but overall the dumpling was decent. Not as spicy as it sounds at all. The lamb burger was a bit too dry for my taste. I added the sauce from the pork dumplings to the burger to try to give it a bit more moisture. It was just eh. On the contrary, the complimentary noodles were extremely well done. It had a pickled taste to it and was absolutely perfect to have on hot day. It cooled me down and I felt like my electrolytes were getting a recharged.
Finally had the opportunity to try Wild Ginger while in Alameda and it did not disappoint. I've heard so many great things about this spot from reviews to word-of-mouth. Also, Park St. in Alameda is just so charming..a win/win all around. Yes the reviews are correct ~ you can hear the slaps in the kitchen of hand-pulled noodles being prepared fresh. On the menu you can find cold noodle dishes, and hand-pulled noodles used for dishes in sauce with protein or in a warm soup with protein/veggies. There are also ramen noodle dishes, dumpling dishes in sauce or soup, and delicious street food like the pork or lamb burgers. Service is quick, pricing is extremely fair, and this is the type of heart happy spot supporting small business/super cool hole-in-the-wall IYKYK moment. The stewed pork burger (similar to a meat pocket) was so flavorful and juicy, with a crunch of veggie, I could have ordered a few more if it wasn't a quick pit-stop for lunch. Delicious. Our party ordered a cold noodle dish and warm soup, both so different, but comforting and enjoyed. Also, the pork dumplings in the spicy & sour sauce are super yummy. I noticed they also sell homemade spicy sauce for purchase. Looking forward to returning next time I'm craving the noods. Metered parking can be found along Park Street and the corresponding side streets.
We were in the area looking for a lunch spot and stumbled upon Wild Ginger. I love biang biang noodles, and theirs looked really good, so I decided to give them a try. Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed. The noodles were too doughy and slightly soggy, and they did not have the chewy bounce and texture I was hoping for. The sauce was just okay as well and did not stand out much. The ambience was pretty standard, but the staff were friendly and even gave us a complimentary appetizer, which was appreciated. Overall, it was okay but I'm not sure I'd revisit.

The hand pulled noodles were great! The 'Spicy and Tingly Beef hand-pulled noodles' (H5) I ordered reminded me of caldo de res because of the stewed beef and cabbage, but the noodles and sauce were new and great. Thank you! read more
I really wanted soupy thick homemade noodles and really didn't feel like driving down to Fremont to my favorite place, so I figured I'd finally give Wild Ginger a try. I ordered the lamb burger / bun and the beef soup malatang. The soup looked more oily than it did spicy to me, and the taste was much the same. The noodles were thick and the beef was good, but oddly, I liked the chunks of potatoes more. Overall, I just wish the soup had more spice and less oil. The big let down though, was the lamb burger. First, I should have read the previous reviews more carefully, as I expected a bun of some sort, not a tasteless English muffin. Second, I had onions, and by the time I plucked all of them out, there was barely any lamb. My other issue was while sitting inside, not only did I get to hear constant exceptionally loud chopping from the kitchen, but then one of the girls working there went to catch a spider or a bug that was on the window, and then proceeded to walk back towards the cash register / kitchen with it (right next to where I was sitting) and proceeded to stand there as if she couldn't think of what to do with the bug (hint: take it outside!) read more

Our friends recommended this place during our short stay in Alameda and it was one of my favorite meals on our trip. The lamb bun was my favorite. I wish I had gotten more. The dumplings and chili oil noodles were good and I loved the Szechuan spice. read more
A small, neighborhood noodle spot. Starting off: the space is quite small, but not busy when we went. The server was attentive and friendly. One critique I will give this place is the spice- if you're like me with a low spice tolerance get NO Spice. I got the mild and I was sweating lol. The noodles, beef, and broth were spectacular. Love this place! 3rd Time Visitor Came with some friends right after a beach volleyball session. Glad they were able to squeeze us into outside seating on such short notice; we were a party of 8! The food came out within 15-20min and the waiters were very attentive even though we were seated outside the restaurant. We also brought our toy poodle with us too since we came from the beach and they were fine with us dining in. We got all 6 types of dumplings! Pork & Lamb in Sauce were my favorites. My friends got to experience them in soup and they loved them just as good. They said the broth was super savory. I think we had about 8 different types of noodles on the table. This place hand cuts their noodles. Video on Yelp is what drew me to suggest this place to my friends in the past after trying it myself. Spicy Dan Dan Noodles 5/5 - slow burn; not overwhelming spice Jiang Zha Dry Noodles in Sauce 6/5 - highly rec !! Lamb Malatang Soup w/ Noodles 5/5 - My boyfriend had this one and love the way the lamb pieces were seasoned. It definitely got his nose running and he can tolerate spice more than me. I'm not from the area and went here on a date with my partner who is. He's very familiar with the food which is why he took me here & I agree with him it was incredibly tasty! I also have seen reviews on TikTok that show how good it is. Got sat immediately when we arrived & didn't take long to order. The food arrived fairly quick & it was hot & fresh still. Dumplings were so yummy with the sauce as well. The hand pulled noodles were delicious as it was my first time trying it as well. Clean environment and welcoming, I would come back anytime! read more

The interior is pretty small with limited seating so be prepared to wait about 15 minutes for a table if it's busy. H4 Stewed Pork in Sauce * Noodles are wide and thick, good texture but they were lacking a bit in flavor. However, the pork was great, tender and flavorful, just wish there was a better meat/vegetable to noodle ratio. read more
4.5 stars! I liked this place and would come back! First, Service was soooooo friendly and thoughtful. Loved it. Food. I did not realize the lamb noodle soup was thin noodle until it arrived at my table, so I asked if I could order a side of wide noodles and I would swap it myself. They did it for me and they didn't charge me, which was more than I would expect nowadays at other places, unfortunately. The lamb noodle soup broth was delish! I feel the wide hand pulled noodles are pretty good but I think they can be a little thinner as they are a little thick. The cucumber salad was unique to other places but I enjoyed it! Huge portions. They also gave me a cold noodle salad on the house and that was very very good, I'd get it again! Lastly, I ordered a pork rou burger. Food is pretty good!! The noodles are freshly made and the chili sauce is delicious. I think the noodles are a bit too thick for my liking however, but I think it would be good if you like thicker noodles. Also the dumplings come doused in red vinegar (which I personally like!) but if you're not too big of a fan then maybe tell them to not put too much or order the noodle soup read more
This spot has the thickest, most textural, chewiest noodles ever. Can't get enough. I mean--just look at the photos! I got the spicy and tingly beef. The broth has a nice kick to it, and it hits home. You can request a tasty chili oil on side. The beef came out tender and delicious. My date got the pork soup, which tasted similarly yummy. It's family-owned business, and they're all very friendly. If you want thick, chewy noodles, and a soup that hits the spot--this is the place. Enjoy! read more

It's kind of rare to see some Northern Chinese food near this area, even in the Oakland Chinatown there are lots of Cantonese food, but definitely not northern Chinese food so we came here and it was actually pretty good. We had the handmade noodle which we can really hear The Chef was hand-making the noodles in the kitchen. Lamb in the soup was so chewy and nicely flavored a The appetizer was kinda small, although tastes good, it could be more spicy and salty. The bun with BBQ lamb was alright, I like the meat was a little bit chewy but it's a little bit dry. The lady at the cashier was extremely friendly, she helped us moved our seats. The place isn't big, but they serve really authentic food. read more

Wow Im AMAZED by this place. I couldn't wait to leave so i could write my review, I literally just left. The restaurant is cozy inside, about five tables for four people. Theres also outdoor seating. The menu is pretty easy, they gave us a board with a dry erase marker and you just mark what you want. We ordered Pork zha Jiang noodle, stewed pork burger, spicy cucumber salad and pork dumplings in sauce. Pork Zha Jiang noodle was so delicious! It hits all the spots. The cucumber salad was so refreshing. The dumplings was great also! NOW the stewed pork burger was AMAZING! if i had known it was this good i would have ordered more! Supposedly its hard to find according to my bf. They gave us a cold noodles on the house as an appetizer and omg that was amazing too! The price was also great, i cant complain! This place will be a place I definitely will be coming back to. I want to try the DanDan noodles! I just have a feeling it'll be amazing. Watch out for an update because there will be one!! read more

This might be one of my favorite places in alameda. I remember coming here a few years ago, but didn't remember it being as tasty as it is now! I ordered the lamb cumin noodles in soup! The hand pulled noodles were so chewy and the right amount of Al Dente. The soup with the lamb cumin was very flavorful! Highly recommend it! A hidden gem in Alameda! I came on a cold evening so malatang was perfect to warm me up. Upon entering, it is pretty small with a few tables however there is also outdoor seating. My boyfriend and I ordered the malatang with hand pulled noodles and pork dumplings. We were given a cold noodle dish on the house too. Everything was very delicious and not too oily. I ordered mine extra spicy and it hit the spot. I even saw the workers making the hand pulled noodles in the back. The noodles were my favorite. Service was great and our waiter kept checking up on us and filled our waters frequently. I'll be back again to try out the other dishes! read more

The owner chef Larry was truly amazing and even taught us how to make the hand pulled noodles ourselves! The hospitality he showed was beyond expected and being able to have all the numbing spicy hand pulled noodle was a dream come true! My favorite is their cold hand pulled noodle! I typically get only the spicy beef in sauce or soup. I've had the dumplings and cucumber salad as well. I got the salad for free in a pickup order and it was really good. What always brings me back is the chili oil they make. It's one of my absolute favorites, probably one of the best chili oils I've had. Noodles always good, service always amazing. The two young girls at the counter were super kind and very accommodating to two toddlers. The space is small but opens up pretty quickly. This is something I would have to eat in the restaurant, hand pulled noodles not so great after taking home. Just a heads up for those ordering takeout. read more
Quality/Quantity - Fresh, made to order. Malatang = Chinese street food, see menu. House Specials = Hand pulled noodles. Rou Jia Mo = Chinese hamburger. When they first came to Alameda they were well known for their bun sandwiches (I think peking duck buns). Atmosphere - Very small local business, probably better to just take your food to-go. Open 6 days a week from 11am to 8:30pm with a break/siesta time from 2:30pm-4:30pm. Street parking, but if you do not mind walking there is free parking a few blocks away. Service - Good. I've had Wild Ginger on my radar for well over a year now and finally got the chance to drop in on a Monday evening a handful of weeks ago. My fiancé and I got seated right away at an outdoor table. There were a number of things on the menu that looked really great so choosing was kind of difficult, but we went with the spicy cumin lamb burger, spicy cumin lamb hand-pulled noodles, and the spicy dandan noodles. The lamb burger came out first and wow, that was so good. The lamb was so tender and juicy and had such a great flavor, and the bun had just a bit of a crisp to it while still maintaining softness in the middle. We really should've ordered two of those because I basically ate half of what was supposed to be my fiancé's appetizer and I felt bad about it, but I couldn't resist. The noodles came out shortly afterwards. The hand-pulled noodles were wide and had a great chewy texture without being mushy. Lots of lamb in the bowl, too, and a good level of spicy that wasn't too overwhelming and didn't mask the flavors in the sauce. The dandan noodles were very good and were more a ramen noodle shape; the sliced cucumber provided a nice cooling effect in contrast to the spicy sauce. Everything was pretty reasonably priced and we were full by the end of the meal. We'd considered also ordering some dumplings, but it was better that we didn't because we definitely would've had to take some to-go. We'll be back to try them, though, and some of the other noodle dishes that looked really fantastic on the menu. read more

When I saw the Instagram videos , I was excited to go eat at Wild Ginger!!! Why you may ask? Because they make their Own Hand Pulled Noodles! So I rolled there in my Whip and grabbed a table like a Boss and I Perused the Menu. I ordered the Spicy Cumin Lamb with their Homemade Hand Pulled Noodles !!! It was Pretty cool watching the Cooks Hand Pull the Noodles!!! My Bowl of Spicy Cumin Lamb Hand Pulled Noodle Soup was delivered to my Table 15 Minutes later. On first appearance it was a nice looking bowl of Soup!!! When I stirred it , My first thought was Where's The Lamb?????? There were little fatty slivers of Lamb in the Soup !!! Not many though!!! Where's the Lamb????? Hardly any Protein at all!!!!! There was a lot of Organic Material like- Cabbage, Purple Onion and White Onion. A handful of Noodles also. . Very Disappointing!!! Service was a little on the Rude Side!!!! Example I took a break eating my Soup and the Waiter ask if I wanted my Bill ??? I explained I was still eating LoL !!! 5 minutes later my Waiter came back with my Bill and Grabbed my Soup Bowl and my Glass of Water and took them away!!!!! WTF Very Poor Service!!! The Bowl of Soup was almost $18 !!!! What a Rip Off !!! For a handful of noodles and a bunch of vegetable fillers!!! I won't ever be Back!!! For all these reasons this is NOT A BALLER ON A BUDGET Approved Establishment!!! There are Much Better Options in Alameda on Park Street at this Price Point !!!!! read more

My partner and I wanted to dine in here but was told they were closing in 15 minutes so we decided to do take out. We order the lamb dumplings and the pork dumplings. We were bummed out because we didn't check their business hours. Not only did they cook our food I believe in 10 minutes but we were given their popular cucumber salad on the house! It wasn't bad, it wasn't great. Although I don't weigh my reviews that heavily on service or vibes, first impressions and vibes do make a slight impact on the whole w dining experience. With that said, after I step foot in the door I wasn't sure if I wanted to stay inside to eat or dine outside in the patio. It just didn't feel welcoming or comfortable inside. We decided to stay inside. We ordered our food by marking it on the menu. We ordered the zha jiang Mein, beef noodle soup, handpulled beef soup, pork bao. They kindly gave us a cucumber salad. Our favorite was the pork bao. Tender and nicely seasoned meat. Bao was soft and not overpowering the meat flavor. The handpulled noodle was good. Noodles had a nice chew. I like that it wasn't too spicy and the mala flavor was mellow. The zha Jiang Mein also had good flavor. Nice chewy noodle. Portions were good. Beef noodle soup was also good. You need to eat this first if you want to taste the broth! If you eat the spicy noods first, this will taste bland. Overall good, not fond of the romaine lettuce they add in the soup noodle dishes. read more
I come back here all the time because they're consistently good and I can't get enough of their handpulled noodles. At this point I've tried most of their menu and I have to say this is one of my favorite noodle places and the owner is one of the nicest person I've met! Spicy Cumin Lamb Noodles in Soup - hands down my favorite noodle dish here. A nice level of spice and the hand pulled noodles are delicious. It only contains lamb, noodles and veggies so it's a very simple dish, but it's very delish Lamb Combo Malatang- I prefer the spicy cumin lamb noodles bc I don't love mala...however if you do this is the one for you. It has an assortment of other items such as tofu, fish ball, lamb, potatoes and seaweed knots ...but for me I feel like it takes away from the dish since the items seem kinda random Curry Beef in Sauce - my boyfriends favorite noodle dish. He loves curry and the flavors are delicious! Pork Zha Jiang in Sauce - delicious sauce and lots of noodles, you will have enough for leftovers Liang Pi - cold noodles with tofu chunks in their spicy sauce...perfect for a hot day Pork dumplings in sauce - love the vinegary sauce it comes in, great dumpling dish! SO YUMMY. Biang biang noodles are one of my favorite dishes ever to exist, and when I found out that there was a place near Berkeley I HAD to come. We arrived at around 6pm on a Tuesday night and it wasn't too busy so we were fortunate enough to get seated immediately. The inside of the restaurant is quite small so if you come during a busy time there will likely be a wait. We decided to get the spicy cucumber salad to share. It was well seasoned, fresh, and a good level of spice! I loved the garlic inside too. For my main dish, I got the spicy and tingly beef noodles in sauce. It was delicious!! The noodles were wide, thick, and perfectly chewy. There was plenty of veggies and beef inside, and the meat was seasoned so well and also super tender. It was all coated beautifully in their spicy mala sauce. I could literally eat this every day it was so good. You can actually hear them making the noodles the back -- the signature banging sound where the name of the noodles comes from. I would say the prices are also extremely fair and for the quality of the meal, it's absolutely worth it. Definitely a must try in the area!! read more
