We had a Family dinner here on vacation and it was delicious. The Wild Dog burger is one of the best I've tasted - my husband could barely finish it, it was so large. Michigan Restaurant Such a cute restaurant with outdoor seating that has pretty lighting. We went a week before they were closing up for the season and man was it busy. I was highly impressed with the spectacular service and respect to me being a vegan. There was a good selection of vegan entrees on the menu but I opted for the greek salad with no feta cheese. I tried some of the vegan curry which was good though, however it wasn't the best curry I've had before and was mediocre. The salad seemed like it was missing something and was kind of boring in my option. The server was super nice and accommodating towards finding out if a different dish could be made vegan and he thought it could but when he went back and put the order in he checked with the chef and it wasn't and he came back and let us know. Honestly, you don't find that a lot of restaurants, and it means the world to find staff at restaurants that care and respect their customers. I say this because a lot of restaurants make customers feel like they are a hassle when they ask questions about what is in dishes on the menu. I'm not from the area but next time I'm in Michigan, I'll be sure to stop back and support this business. They have a nice large bar area as well and it is a quaint restaurant that is causal but finer dining as well. read more

The hostess sat 2 large parties in front of us gobbling outdoor tables together and told me they had to seat them first because they had nowhere else to put them. Well how about waiting for the people who had been there first to do that. Our waitress cam back 30 minutes after our order to ask a question about our entree and apparently had not put them in. So now been here over 2 hours and not happy. People who were seated after us had already finished their meals at this point. The food was actually good but not worth the hassle. They should really take reservations. Friday and Saturday nights this place is a zoo. Better to come when it's not packed beyond their capability to handle the crowds. read more

My friends and I are here later in the evening on a Friday night. We were seated immediately on the patio. I liked being out on the patio but I was unimpressed with the plastic outdoor chairs that were in use. I witnessed a guy having a near catastrophe with one of those chairs....they are hard to navigate and could pose a danger. Having said that the food was great. I got the gourmet grilled cheese and the sweet potato tots with the chili aioli. Both were portioned well and tasted great! I had a hard time deciding between the sweet potato tots and the french fries. I decided to go with the tots and I'm glad I did. My son got the fries and I tried a few. To sum up my experience in one word it would be "meh". Highlights: service was average speed and the restaurant was clean. Low lights: the food, decor, and overall experience. My wife and I got the burger and our friend got the Wild Dog Burger. The hamburgers did not come with sides so if you wanted fries or chips it was an extra cost to an already decently priced menu item. The food was forgettable and bland. Our server wrote down our order but came back to our table at least 3 times to clarify our order. Fake flowers on the tables and cheesy art in the bathroom. There are many other restaurants in the Saugatuck/Douglas area that are better than Wild Dog. read more

Son drove from Chicago to take us to dinner: roasted vegetable plate was burnt and bitter, Turkey meatballs on polenta had burned cold meatballs and polenta, asked to try the panko crusted chicken instead ... our poor waitress was mortified ... the kitchen sent the chicken out raw! My Caesar salad was divine, son's tacos were cold and sub par. I tried a delicious cocktail that included cayenne pepper, so I asked for just a light dash. There was so much cayenne I choked on the dry powder and could not finish my drink. Only my second review of any restaurant EVER. I hope our waitress was able to get management to address all of this with the kitchen. Sorry to have wasted so much of our son's money. But this in my opinion was more on management for not putting more than one server on such a large party. The food was amazing. My daughter doesn't really eat normal kid food so the kids menus wasn't for her. She ordered off the adult menus but they went above and beyond to give a child size portion without even asking. Took a couple of friends to Wild Dog Grille, as previous visits in 2023 were wonderful experiences. This visit on July 13th, 2024 was a seriously disappointing experience. The menu and ownership change was obvious as soon as we sat down, the menu was so altered it did not have any similarity to the previous one. We struggled to make a selection as none of the offerings appealed. However we were determined to try the NEW menu. We ordered 3 pizzas, salad and halloumi cheese. The pizzas only had toppings in the middle part, the 30-40% of the other part was bare dough. They were all barely cooked, the cheese was white, not even golden. The flavor was bland. The entire meal was boring and a huge let down. We spoke to the waitress, who then called the manager. The manager came to the table, we approached the conversation as constructive to provide feedback, we did not want or ask for a discount on the bill, just wanted to inform that the meal was subpar. The manager looked in the distance, she was disengaged and we felt she could care less. That is now how we feel about ever visiting the Wild Dog Grille again. Bye. read more

Went for dinner and ordered their chicken pecorino. Unfortunately the broccolini that accompanied the chicken was so tough it was virtually inedible. When the waitress asked how we were enjoying our meal, I mentioned how bad the undercooked vegetable was. She offers to give a discount which I thought it was quiet appropriate and said we appreciated it. When the bill came, there was no discount and the stress said she was overruled by management! Another great restaurant in little downtown Douglas. The atmosphere is very stylish & comfortable. They have a great patio for outdoor dining. Their neighbor has a nice fountain with the soothing sound of water flowing in the background. The service was great, I think his name was Nick. They have a great selection of craft beers which you'd expect in this part of MI. They even had flavored vodkas which the GF likes. We both had the Mediterranean chicken salad which was awesome & huge. It had everything you'd expect in this type of salad & then some. Normally just a salad doesn't stay with me for too long but this was so big I didn't get hungry again until dinner time. Hidden gem right down the road from Saugauck. Had some very tasty truffle fries and a bowl of their chili for the starters. The fries were seasoned nicely and were great for sharing. The chili was hearty and had a bit of a kick. Tried the full rack of ribs served with house made tater tots. Ribs are dry rubbed and then dressed in a nice bbq sauce and could be eaten with a fork and knife. On a different occasion, tried the chipotle lacquered salmon. Prepared nicely and loved the scallion potato cakes that accompanied the dish. For dessert, our wonderful server perfectly brûléed the dessert. Great example of a local restaurant doing things right. Sadly took 15 minutes to get water. Finally Chris greeted us and gave us water. I ordered a alcoholic drink and gave it back as it tasted like juice. I then ordered a dirty martini and it was all olive juice. I even asked the table next to me that order the same drink. How's your drink? He said it's pure olive juice!!! Even his friend said his drink was horrible. He ordered a Tito's and soda and it was all soda. I know it's hard times with covid. But we're here supporting local businesses. We loved our experience at Wild Dog last weekend. We were in town from Chicago and were pleasantly surprised by this cute strip of restaurants in Douglas. Everything seemed reasonably priced, and the atmosphere was nice. My husband got the salmon with kimchi fried rice. It was incredible!! So many delicious flavors. Also got to try the tilapia tacos, the truffle fries and the beet hummus. All excellent. The only reason I gave 4 stars was the lack of flexibility around seating and reservations. We called early in the day on a Thursday to try to make a reservation for a party of six and were told they take no reservations. Updating from 2016 review when I gave 2 stars. We just returned to the area on vacation and decided to try it out again. There was an hour and a half wait (it was a Sat, and the weekend after 4th of July, so to be expected). The atmosphere is just so loud inside and not all that much to write home about, so we had a great idea: ordered food for takeout and take it to the beach. So that's just what we did. My husband ordered a steak and it was pretty good, but I ordered a wasabi salmon dish they had on special and it was SO GOOD! We took it and drove to the beach in South Harbor and watched the sunset. Updating to 3 stars because the steak was still just ok, and the atmosphere isn't great, but the salmon dish helped add a star for us this time - and combined with a view of Lake Michigan at sunset - we were much happier with our experience this time around. Great dinning in Douglas but because you can't make a reservation I tend to forget it's an option. Bartenders are friendly and use there sex appeal in all the right ways. Food is good but not a great value for the price. In the end it's always a great time if you can stand to wait an hour for a table. If you want a reservation go to Hercules or Zing both have menus that are similar and executed well. Wild dog doesn't disappoint but be prepared to wait. read more

I would come here again for sure. There were pros and cons, but ultimately the food was fresh and tasted good. For starters...we had a large group (six) and it was a Saturday night, so I expected a wait. The hostess told me "probably 45 minutes", but to "check back in 30 minutes". She was...not exactly the friendliest person, barely any eye contact and a scowl where a smile should be (shouldn't a host...who is your first impression of a business, give welcoming and pleasant vibes?) frankly, the nearby restaurants had much longer waits and so 45 minutes was fine by us. We went across the street for a drink while we waited. After 30 minutes I walked back over to see if our table was ready and it was she said "but your whole party has to be here." I let her know we were across the street waiting for our check and I'd be right back with everyone. We came back after (finally) getting the bill from Coastal Society (see review), and literally no eye contact was had, she walked us to our table without a word and left. Yikes! Thankfully our waitress was AMAZING. I wish I could recall her name. We were on the patio and she was welcoming and accommodating. I had the salmon dip app which was great. Every bit of 5 stars. The decor of the restaurant has an elegant African Safari feel to it, with stone clad walls and animal heads adorning every wall. Every dish we had was excellent. The smoked salmon and baked cheese dish was something we had never seen on a menu and were blown away. For entrees we had the chicken and surf and turf dish with a perfectly cooked medium rare ribeye. If you're ever in the Holland/ Saugatuck / Douglas area I highly recommend making a stop to this restaurant. It's also on a quaint street with shops that adds to it's charm. read more
