I purchased a large bird, a Green Wing Macaw from here $5,500…read more We would come up every week to visit during weaning (about an hour and half drive one way). Their expected lifespan is about 80. We breed birds, but not him, he was a pet, my pet, my baby. Last May I had to put him down due to a disease, PDD. This is spread through saliva and fecal matter, but since he was housed alone none of my other birds could have gotten it from him, thankfully! Our vet who informed us he probably got it during weaning from a breeder using one pipet between birds during hand feeding times. I spoke with Bird Fever's Vet, Dr. Dahlhausen, along with the vet Hei Hei was being seen at, Med Vet Hillsboro, OH, that recommended we put him down at the age of 3! This was a humane decision and I (and both of our vets stand by it) in-spite of how much it hurts me. Hei Hei was a good bird, but they wont provide a replacement bird, or even a refund on the price. I can't seek legal recourse due to the "warranty" only lasting a year, regarding the sale. We did our due diligence we did the autopsy after he was put down, we were broken and it took me time to stop crying to let them know what had happened, and finally to reach out and ask for a refund or replacement bird for the one who was ill. Bird Fever's response to me was devastating and rude! The Audacity to tell me it wasn't a death sentence, and my terms were out of date, in-spite of me getting information directly from not only my own vet but one who is theirs as well! Mind you PDD can lay dormant for years, and is often found in the first 5 years an infected bird can have this disease and only be a carrier. This means their aviary is infected with PDD. This is exactly what Bird Fever told me: "First, I am sorry to read that this happened. As for the health guarantee, it is not a lifetime guarantee. We guarantee the birds to be healthy and free of disease at the time of purchase. You took the bird to an avian vet when it went home, and the vet signed off that the bird was healthy and free of disease. If there was a problem we would have been notified, then. Once the bird leaves the store, we cannot control what happens to the bird or what it is exposed to. As far as PDD is concerned, I am concerned that you went to a vet that is not knowledgeable in regard to the disease. Your terminology is outdated and most of your statements about it are incorrect. PDD is an expression of avian ganglioneuritis, or AGN. AGN is a neurological condition that expresses itself in different ways with PDD being one of the ways. The unfortunate part is if it was PDD, it is very treatable and is no longer a death sentence like it was years ago. There is no test for PDD as the only way to confirm the diagnosis is through histopathology. The only way to do that in a living bird is a crop biopsy. Unfortunately, I can't write everything there is about PDD in a Facebook message. I will gladly talk to you about this, or I can refer you to our Veterinarian for more information."

The staff is extremely knowledgeable and can offer recommendations for attracting different types of birds. They are happy to offer advice about everything from squirrel control to bird houses. This is the best bird food you can buy. It is more expensive but doesn't have fillers like cheap bird food. Birds love it, you will definitely attract more to your yard.

I stopped in this shop and found the shop well spaced and orderly which made finding what I was looking for much easier. The woman working behind the counter was pleasant and when I found an item, she discussed the features of the item and how it was different than some alternative items I had used in the past. The prices are higher than you will find at the big box stores, but I suppose that goes with being a specialty store that can't offset prices against other items. Even though the items can get expensive, the quality seems to be part of what I've paid for on purchases, so I seem to keep returning when I find one of these stores in the area. Good service and products for those of us who enjoy watching our local birds. Review #3663

This PetSmart always seems to be well-stocked on food, treats, and supplies. It's fun to browse the toy aisles, even though my dog definitely doesn't need more toys. Occasionally I can't resist when I find something new or unique. The employees are always super friendly, and it is easy to find someone if you have questions or need assistance. The grooming department has convenient hours and excellent groomers. I actually started coming to this location after following our groomer here from her former location.

My dogs are cocker spaniels - known for chronic ear infections. I have her ears treated constantly for this and never had a groomer turn us away before for this, or any other reason. I should note that the reason we tried PetSmart for grooming is because our regular grooming service was experiencing some staffing issues. Well we took our dogs home and I called the manager at PetSmart to complain about this situation. He agreed that an attempt should have been made to groom the cocker spaniel with the matted ears, and that the ear infection on the other dog may have been a judgement call, but he did offer for us to bring our dogs back to have them groomed at a 50% discount. I agreed and we scheduled that for a couple of weeks later. During those two weeks, we trimmed the matted ears on our own (did not take long) and continued treating the ear infection on the other dog. When we returned for our second appointment, the groomer accepted the dogs and said it would take about three to four hours (understandable). I had not even made it home from dropping the dogs off when I got a call that the dogs were ready to go home, and that they only partially groomed them both. They partially shaved one cocker spaniel but didn't finish her face and left three paws untouched. They told us "The one paw is all that she would let us do." She looks incredibly goofy. The other cocker spaniel (which we had previously trimmed the matted ears ourselves) looks even goofier. They said he has matting under his arms that they can't take care of. Took getting him hime I so find some very MINOR matting. It is nothing I can't cut out with a pair of scissors in about two minutes! Maybe had they groomed him the first time, that matting would not have been an issue. Now, keep in mind they only worked on my dogs for a half hour of what should have been a three to four hour session. They said nothing about him being matted in those areas during our first trip. Even so, isn't a groomer supposed to take care of such issues?! They went so far as to say that we need to take him to the vet to have the matting cut out. We have been dog owners all our lives and have NEVER been turned away by ANY groomer in the past for ANY reason! I called our vet and our regular groomer who both agree that this is just laziness on the part of PetsMart's grooming service. I have now scheduled them for grooming services with our regular groomer even though it will be a little while based on staffing issues. I will not name our regular groomer but they are very reputable in this area. They do a great job, and they shared with me that they are not surprised by our experience with PetSmart and that they have heard the same kinds of complaints from several others. Never again will we give this place a penny's worth of business. Stay away from this place and go somewhere else that actually cares about dogs and enjoys grooming them. This is pure laziness and incompetence.
