The area is very clean, and volunteers are present to discuss the cats and offer information. The area is well organized and the cats are well taken care of. I was in the aquarium section. We had no idea what filter to get or what we were looking for- this was the second night coming. We had the same girl- long blondish hair. She was so unhelpful. She watched us struggle in the aquarium section for over 15 minutes and did not offer to help. When I did ask for her to show us, she was stocking and stood up to point. I had no idea what I was looking for and it was awful. We would have spent more money twice but due to the unfriendliness and all of it- we declined. My wife and I were looking to get Sully a last-minute grooming appointment before seeing the vet tomorrow. We called Petco in Carmel and they were able to get us in next-day! We took him, explained that he had two mats on his chest that we've tried to work with with no success. Amanda, his groomer today, gave us the 'I'll need to go shorter on the matted areas' talk, and we told her we understood but we'd still like to leave him as 'fluffy as we could'. 4.5 hours later, we walked into a SHAVEN dog!! His whole body is shaven with random patches of longer hair scattered throughout (as you can see in the after photo). AND they nicked his skin several places, leaving visible sore red spots that he will not leave alone. After shaving his body and chin, I guess they thought it would be best to barely touch his face. The only area they felt the need to leave fluffy is around the mouth (great choice for his hygiene, ya know?) I would say this cut is worth a zero star review (if one existed) except that the lady at the register also felt the cut was not near what we asked for, and she comped the entire cost. She is the only reason I feel like justifying the one star I left. Overall, we will NOT be visiting Petco for pet grooming or shopping needs again. read more

All the stars for the dog training classes at this Petco. Especially the lead trainer, Chance. He is amazing at teaching both dogs and people, and really understands how to teach in a way that is positive and yet firm. We started with puppy kindergarten classes, which was about $150 for six weeks of once-weekly classes. We signed up for the class during a promotion that they were having, so we got a $50 gift card at the end of our training session. By the end of the six weeks, our puppy had mastered the basic dog cues (sit, down, stay, touch) and loved going to Petco every week to do his class. We still pop by every once in a while to visit our buddy, Chance the trainer! We also visit this Petco every once in a while for their puppy play hours, which at the time of this posting, are every Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 1:30 p.m. This is a free socialization time for puppies under 6 months of age, where they can be off-leash and meet other puppies in a small, contained area of Petco. They have a low turn over rate of employees and employ people that really care about animals and animal welfare. Petco is also extremely generous with our non-profit rescue, and provide a great resource for us to get our felines adopted out. I've been trying to find a DIY Dog washing station or a Self Serve dog wash in carmel or near carmel and I found Petco and another one that I already went to and didn't like. At first glance, Petco's Self Serve dog washing station honestly doesn't look very well kept. They didn't have any aprons which I honestly didn't really mind, the bath was dirty and the water took very long to get warm. My dog was shaking because the water was so cold but I couldn't wait any longer as the grooming part of Petco was closing in an hour. The water did eventually get warm tho! For 20$ I think it was a bit too expensive because I went to a really good DIY dog wash place and it cost about 10$ but it was unfortunately closed down. Honestly this place would have been fine if the water didn't take so long to get warm. I don't think I've ever reviewed a place because I feel like reviewing something is just out of spite but this time I think this would help someone else to maybe find another place instead of this one or it could help to know to come early to wait for the water to get warm. In the end, I got my dog bathed and thats what was needed. The store itself is nice and the staff were nice to us but I just didn't like the cold water that's it! My family recently lost our family pet of 10 years, leaving a silent void in our home. I started looking for options to adopt in the area and saw an ad for an adorable cat on Craigslist indicating that Petco had several available. They work with several non profit animal rescue groups in central Indiana. The ones we visited were from Pals4Paws animal rescue in Muncie. I surprised my daughter after school and took a ride up to the Carmel Petco so we could 'pet some kitties'. Little did she know I'd already done my due diligence and had one in mind. It had been weeks since I'd initially seen the ad featuring a beautiful black female, so I figured it must've been fate that she was still there! She was playful and immediately responsive to our attention through the glass. Once she was out of her cage, she jumped up in my lap and began purring and loving the attention. We chose not to handle any others and completed an application to adopt her on the spot. We left with the knowledge that the application would be reviewed and references checked. That evening, I received a call from the head of the shelter indicating that everything checked out and we could pick up our new pet the next day. I didn't tell my daughter, but instead left work and picked up our new kitty immediately after work before picking her up from school. She made little fuss in the covered carrier I placed in backseat. I scooped up my daughter and turned up the radio as a distraction, as she asked if I'd heard anything back on our application. "Not yet, I fibbed. We got out of the car and I went around to the back seat, taking out the carrier and unveiling our new baby and my daughter gasped, crying tears of joy! It was a beautiful moment and exactly what we needed to bring love and light back into our life. Luna adapted right away, investigating her new space, following us around and cuddling up with both of us. She sleeps with my daughter and is the sweetest kitty we could have asked for. There will never be a replacement for our boy Rocket, but its nice to have the love of a furry friend bring smiles to us again. Went to Petco on Sunday to Picked up my dogs food. The sale tag was in the wrong spot - the manager stated and wouldn't honor the sale price. I believe this may be a newer manager. I went ahead and paid full price and also asked if the kibbles were the larger size since I have 2 Goldens, she said "yes" ! I got home, it's the small kibbles. I Was disappoint in the service and staff. We have been going to this location and never had issues before (5 years) ! to not honor the price that placed in front of product is petty. I will be shopping at value pet going forward. I think what upset me the most is I had to go back and take a picture for the cashier and then went back up to show her and she still didn't honor she got the manager - she didn't honor price stated either. This past weekend, we bought a kitten from a person who runs a rescue shelter for pets, and she operates out of the Petco store. We also bought several cat supplies at the store while we were there. Both Petco and Petsmart are national chains that have a presence in this area of northern Indianapolis. Personally, I don't see a huge amount of difference between the two, although Petsmart does appear to have slightly lower prices on the items we bought at Petco over the weekend. Especially if you keep pets that are a bit on the unusual side, you can usually find what you need. The problem is, the employees are less than helpful. The last few times I've been there, there's been an extended wait while they paged someone to get feeders for me. I understand that stores get busy, and I'm OK with that. We've found the Carmel Petco really helpful for our pup's needs! We first visited because they have "puppy playtime" every weekend from 1-1:30. It's a safe space for pups under 6 months old to socialize with others. Since puppies at that age are still getting their vaccines, it can be hard to find safe socialization spaces. They check and make sure the puppies have had their first round of vaccines before they play. This was the perfect solution for us since we got a puppy in the winter! He was always very tired out after. A trainer moderates the space and encourages safe play. They only let a few dogs in at a time and rotate them in and out if there's a big group. The play/training space is directly in the middle of the store. We've also had our dog groomed here. The pricing is pretty reasonable and they even have a self wash station for $10. The groomer ran through the package options with me beforehand and verified the look I wanted. A few hours later, we picked him up all clean and fresh! His haircut looked great, it was very even and not too short. The paw balm made his paws sooooo soft. I can tell they took good care of my dog! read more

We have taken our dog here many times to get groomed. Unfortunately, the last two times, our dog has been there for 5-6 hours past the time of her appointment. After she is released, she pees right by the counter and is dehydrated. There is no reason to have an appointment time if your dog is going to sit in a cage for 6.5 hours! Also, the prices were increased and no one mentioned this to us on the last visit. We will not be returning to PetCo again for grooming or food. They need to change their system of making appointments and not overbook their customers. We are not paying over 100.00 to have her kept in a cage all day. read more

I was really happy when Petco moved to this new location. I know it didn't go far, but they really had a chance to make it seem brand new. It feel smaller to me now, but they still have all the items we need for our pets, which include dogs and fish. They have a wide variety of dog foods and treats. I have had my dog groomed here on numerous occassions. It is a big box store and not terribly high end but, if you are observant, you can find good products at decent priced and even some good sales. As far as grooming is concerned, Laramie is good people! Tried hard to make it all work for everyone. I am not sure if she is the manager..but I think she has been there longer than just about anyone else and she knows what she is doing. I akways tip her a little extra because I like her attitude and I like how she treats the animals there. Oh, and the have a setup where you can bathe your own dog there. We love taking our Newfie toPetco to bathe her. She has so much hair it is unmanageable at home. They supply brushes, shampoo, conditioner and even towels. We bring our own towels because our dog is very large and the towels supplied are a little small and thin. They also have a dryer. It makes life so much easier between groomings. read more

We have our dogs washed and "maintained" here and they do a pretty good job. The store is a fairly standard store, but appears to have fairly low volume, like pretty much every store in Merchant Square. Earlier in the day they did not even have all of the lights on. Later in the day (still bright outside), they turned all of the lights on. Given the already low foot traffic, if I were the store manager, I would have all of the lights on and extra neon lights to attract as much foot traffic as possible. I suspect this store may bite it in the future. Too bad. read more
