Ordered online for pick up on a rainy day. Well placed signs are there around the hotel guiding you to the back lot to park. You call them upon arrival and they will bring it out to your car which is awesome. Food was ready when we arrived, fantastic! We ordered the 1/2 bucket with umami fries, side of mac n' cheese, and lots of sauces. The meal comes with pickled veggies, slaw, and 4 Hawaiian rolls with nori butter. It's always disappointing to get your order home from anywhere and find a problem, so spoiler alert that impacts the experience for me. I ordered the fries extra crispy and not only did they come soggy as all get out but they also were lacking the umami salt that's supposed to make them special. Everything else was correct but the fries were a disappointment right out the gate. I seasoned them from my spice rack and popped them under the broiler to crisp up. This helped but if they come out of the fryer not crispy the broiler only does so much. Pickled veggies are good. I always love a pickled carrot. The slaw didn't have much flavor I could discern but I added one of the hot sauces on it and it was tasty. The star of the show, the chicken, was ok. I LOVE fried chicken and eat more of it than I probably should, lol. It was VERY crispy almost too crispy (maybe the chicken was cooked well done instead of my fries?). Since it was so crispy this made the chicken dry. Overall, slightly better than meh but not much. Maybe this isn't a meal that translates to go? If we try it again it'll be in person, even though we are literally only 6 miles away so it's not like it traveled far before we got down on it. Glad we tried it out finally but definitely feeling sad it didn't leave me happier for having checked them out. I'd be remiss if I didn't express how sad I am with how disappointing this meal was overall. Fried chicken usually brings me so much joy alas not today. Oh well I guess. Meh... just meh. This is the second time I have had it and it's just okay. We ordered a wild bird, a hot bird and 2 umami fries. Here are my thoughts, and yes I am getting into the nitty gritty! Sandwiches- first and foremost the cuts of the chicken they are using are really bizarre, it was in multiple pieces really thin and only covered like 60% of the bun. The bun is decent but texturally could be toasted more. Both The Hot Bird isn't spicy and too sweet in my opinion, there's a lot of the sauce and it makes it a little soggy. The wild bird was good but again the odd chicken piece took away from it. We cut them in half and one of the halves literally only had 1 bit of chicken. Fries-what umami? With a name like that I'm expecting you to punch me in the face with that good earthy robust flavor. This tasted like normal slightly chalky fries. Visually it didn't look like it had anything sprinkled on it. The fries come with pineapple ketchup... or so they say. We definitely got gochujang sauce. Again... meh! Had some time to kill in the area and stopped by for a bite to eat. The restaurant is a part of the Flamingo hotel. I walked in through the back by the parking lot. Entrance was not clearly labeled so slightly hard to find. The outdoor seating area overlooks the pool at the hotel but is still walled off. There is quite a bit of outdoor seating and very well spaced apart. There were no waiters walking around so you had to order food and drink at the bar. Not terribly inconvenient but troublesome as I was dining alone and it meant walking away from my food in order to order second drink. I had the wild burger and the umami fries. The burger was delicious. Crispy onions and the spicy sauce was a nice touch. Umami fries were a bit of a disappointment. I would say they taste like regular fries so would skip if you were expecting more. read more

Had no idea this place existed until I had a hankering for Fried Chicken for the second time in a year or so and my wife mentioned these folks inside the Flamingo Hotel. Ordered the 8 piece Whole Bird pack of fried Chicken which came with some of those squishy square dinner rolls and butter, undressed cole slaw and some pickled veggies with two side choices. We chose the Pole Beans which came fried with a dip and were excellent and the Purple Sweet Potato Salad which I assumed was more like German Potato Salad using vinegar but was much sweeter with no vinegar. An acquired taste it would seem though they are nicely made but a touch too sweet for me. My mistake I guess but I don't find Sweet Potato Fries to be that much sweeter than potato fires. The deliciously crunch fried organic chicken pieces are enormous and this could easily feed four people though if doing so add another two sides as the Pole Bean portion was large but the Potato Salad portion was only enough for two. Might be even better tonight as we have more than half the chicken left over and will heat it up unlike last night where we just ate it 35 minutes after it was placed in the to go containers. Highly recommended but would prefer German Potato Salad and a slight upgrade in rolls. I'll try the Mac N' Cheese as the second side next time as there will be a next time. read more

I discovered this after trying to find the restaurant listed on Yelp for 20 minutes and then giving up and calling. There's no mention of the Flamingo on the Yelp posting. read more

Seriously, maybe the BEST burger I've ever eaten! And that's mighty big praise! I had to get it again the next day, just to be sure it wasn't a fluke. All of the menu items we tried are delicious, and the new poolside outdoor patio that opened earlier this week is beautiful. One of the nicest covid-friendly outdoor eating areas in SR, with nice decor/furniture and plenty of overhead heaters. Once the word gets out, this place is going to be packed. On a related note: I live in the neighborhood and have been coming here for years. It's always been sort of a funky dive and the facility fell into major disrepair, but the Flamingo's new owner is doing a really nice job with the renovation so far. Night and day. The pool area, lobby and restaurant have been completed and are really well done (MASSIVE improvement). Hopefully the guest rooms receive the same level of improvement, because they haven't changed yet. If so, they will have done a tremendous job restoring this property. Despite its close proximity to my house, I was never able to recommend the hotel to friends, family and business associates - but it appears that's about to change, and I'm thrilled! read more

I think this spot is just hype or I came on an off day. Fried chicken as simple as it is to make is just as easy to mess up. I ordered a family pack whole fried chicken which is supposed to be for 4-6 ppl. I think its probably for 4-6 children. Yes, one of the sides was missing but we got 2 sides of curtido pickles, 2 sides of undressed slaw, one side of mac and 6 miniature hawaiian rolls. I was supposed to have a side of fries as my second side but it was missing so I'm not sure how many more that would have fed but that leaves about 1.5-2 pc chicken per person, a bite of mac, a bite of slaw and a bite of pickles with 1.5-2 mini hawaiian rolls per person. If you split this on a plate its hardly enough for 4 ppl, so I think saying it's enough for 6 is an exaggeration. The gochujang sauce didnt taste like gochujang so I'm not sure I was given the right sauce I paid for. The buffalo sauce was pretty good but the pickles and slaw were not flavorful at all and didnt add anything to meal besides being a "filler". The mac and cheese tasted like alfredo sauce on elbow pasta, not sure if there was cheese in it and it was enough for 2 tbl/person if feeding 4...not sure if I was supposed to receive 2 containers? I added a side of pole beans, it wasnt clear on the menu that they are tempura battered and fried, the picture looks like they are stir fried. The beans themselves were flavorful but you can tell that they are pre battered and fried as the batter tasted hard and not fresh. Also the sauce served with the beans tasted like a very vinegary ponzu and it just didnt really go with the beans, I think the sauce might've taste better with some pot stickers or something.. Wild Bird is pretty darn amazing. I did Door Dash twice in the span of two days for dinner. Once I tried the Fried Chicken Sandwich and the next time I tried the Half Chicken. The fried chicken sandwich was amazing. For my delivery area it is definitely the best chicken sandwich. Way better than KFC or Popeyes and some other restaurants as well that deliver on Door Dash. The half chicken was similarly tasty, and so was the dinner rolls which are sort of like the Hawaiian rolls you get at the grocery store. And the Mac and cheese I got with it was great too. I didn't like the pickled vegetables but that's a me thing, I'm sure for people that do like pickled vegetables it was quite tasty. We wanted to try a new place for chicken sandwiches so we went here for dinner. Price was a bit high but they sandwiches were really big so we didn't mind paying it. I give it a one star bump for two reasons; 1) Because the fries were soggy, this is not because they were packaged in an air tight container, but it might have been the oil was not set at the proper temp, not sure. 2) it is really hard to find. You have to go through a hotel parking lot and look for one tiny sign, walk through the kitchen and if you're lucky, talk to a cook. I would like to try this place again and probably will. read more

My friends and I had the most amazing experience at Wild Bird! We went last Saturday night while staying at the hotel and Will was our server / bartender. He was so accommodating and on top of things. He had great recommendations for me and my friends (who are pescatarian). We wanted to try everything so we ordered a TON. The Burger is unreal. I thought I would go ahead and review this place since I felt the food was better than the stars I saw! We ordered this during the heat wave here in Santa Rosa, late in the day when we finally realized there was no way we were going to cook dinner. I'll be honest, I ordered before I saw the yelp review as I was just scrolling through a delivery app... and I'm happy I did! The food arrived EARLIER than we expected (rate I know! Not banking on that again lol!) and packaged up so adorably. We accidentally over ordered, but it was great because we tried so many things! The Wild Bird sandwich was so tasty, full of flavor. A little soggy, but what do you expect with a delicious Hawaiian roll? We got the wings with gojuchang sauce. They were tasty and not dried out like others had said. The mac and cheese was very good, and perfectly cooked. We also go the yam fries, which were soggy like everyone said... but to be honest, it's to be expected with delivery right now. They were so fresh, there's no way they would have stayed crispy during the drive! Now, my personal two favorites: the Little Bird Chop salad, and the purple potato salad side. The salad was so fresh, delicious, and had so many flavors going on! It was also way bigger than I expected, which was a nice surprise. The potato salad was so surprising... with smoky flavors and a creamy texture. Last, they sent delicious homemade sauces (an aioli and flavored ketchup) and all the packaging was eco friendly (even the silverware!). Overall, it was a surprising great dinner. Now, given that we got delivery, everything was a bit soggier or had condensation than I think they would have been if it was in the restaurant. Final thoughts... do what I did! Very disappointed with cleanliness, safety, gruffness, lack of attentiveness and food quality- will never go again and strongly recommend against going. When we arrived at wild bird, every open table without customers had garbage remaining from previous customers. This remained the case while we spent 10 min in line, ordered, and we notified the bartender who said he'd send someone to clean right away. Five minutes of sitting at a table filled with another customers trash goes by and finally wait staff comes by, makes eye contact with me then beelines for the nearest table with customers to clean their trash without them asking. I thought she was going to come back to clean mine but nope still a landfill 5 min later when another waitress comes by and I flag her down. She's able to clear the table but says she needs to come back later to wipe the surfaces. 5 minutes later our food arrives, still with trash on our table. So the other table that was well attended to leaves and we steal the other end of their table to avoid another 5 min of neglect. As for the food- typical small portion, more bread than meat bar food. Sigh. And the kicker- when I went to the bar for a coke refill, the unmasked bartender filled the cup well past the brim with ice. When I asked for less ice he dumped half and then fill the cup halfway with coke. And of course with very moist say-it-don't-spray-it COVID tongue he grunted "that good enough for you?". To recap- if you like small bits of fried breading that leaves you hungrier than you started go for it. I've ordered from here during the pandemic at least 4 times already because their chicken sandwich is that good! Way better than Popeyes! I think they use chicken thighs and that's why it's so juicy and not dry at all. The buns and slaw in the sandwich are also amazing! WOW!!! This place is AMAZING!!! The outdoor patio and hotel renovations are beautiful. The seating is comfortable and the heaters were perfect! It's obvious the ingredients are high quality, and yet it is very reasonably priced. If you can eat poolside, the environment has a relaxing vibe and plenty of shaded tables to eat. I keep getting their signature sandwich, the Wild Bird, appropriately named. The bun + the chicken are a win, standalone. Often times places make a weird bun/bread choice trying to be unique, and/or have overly thick cut, flavorless, dry, fried chicken. Not Wild Bird. They nailed the core elements-- crisp on the outside, yet juicy on the inside fried chicken, seasoned excellently, on a soft sweet bun. Also, last week, my sister invited me over to have dinner with her an her kids. Guess what they had ordered for the first time? Yep, Wild Bird. She ordered me the chicken sandwich in the blind (good choice sis, you know me well). It was paired with mac and cheese and fries-- More wins. I purchased the 3 Mahi Tacos, grilled, last night. The fish inside was approx. 1/2" wide by 3" long - The 3 tacos were so small, barely enough to feed a child and not worth anywhere near $12. My daughter had the chicken "nuggies" and a lot of the chicken was just the deep-fried batter. Ordered takeout from here last Sunday. The spicy chicken sandwich was the bomb! Chicken was cooked to perfection! The spicy sauce enhanced the sandwich rather than overpowering it. The MacNCheese was solid and worth getting. The Umami fries didn't taste of Umami to me but weren't bad by any means.
