Big fan of long-time staples restaurants that have endured through all of Baton Rouge's economic swings - Louie's Cafe, Coffee Call, the Waffle House off College... and cheap chili dogs at Wienerschnitzel. "The Schnitzel" has been my close-to-campus late night hot dog fix since I can remember, and it's still around somehow while nearby fast food chains have come and gone. Should you go out of your way to get a dog here? Nah, but it's nostalgic. I mean, look at their building - it hasn't changed since the 1980's! AND PEOPLE STILL GO HERE, making that drive-thru line long! They're using advanced, modern-day AI computers to take your order in the drive thru! They selling out of merchandise! They sell cans of their own chili!! So don't come here with high expectations. I'm gonna start with the good. As far as I'm concerned, what they are known for, they do well. My all beef hot dog was probably the best I've had in years. It was hot and juicy and flavorful. I want all too impressed with the toppings on the trash can dog (fries, cheese). The jalapeño poppers were delicious as well. Also some of the best I've tasted. Crispy freshly fried outside. Grease didn't taste old. Tiny pieces of jalapeño with cheese inside that's spicy but not overbearingly so. I tried their fish and chips because they were battered and I was expecting s Captain D's/Long John Silver taste and I got bland and chalky. The fries were greasy and didn't taste the best. My daughter's hamburger patty was very pale and she status it tasted weird after just one bite. It's very small. Window service or drive thru only. We'll be back though. Der Wienerschitzel I have such fond memories of you. You should have stayed a memory. Memories are often so much better than the current reality. So I ordered the Aussie Dog. I can't tell you exactly what's the official description because it's not on the website, but it's a dog with American Cheese (which was unmelted), horseradish aioli jalapeños, onions & bacon. The bun was hard and cold. The hot dog is thick and at first I thought it was a polish but nope! Just a FAT DOG! Then I googled and IT IS ALLEGEDLY A POLISH BUT IT DEFINITELY DIDBG LOOK LIKE A POLISH! I guess it's sort of a Polish, but not really. Which was also not hot. Can we establish a theme here? I also sign no sign of the horseradish aioli. I mean NONE! I also got a watermelon lemonade which was alright but too sweet and thick The employee was really nice. I am a big fan of hot dogs and sausages. I have tried many at many different places. However, wienerschnitzel was somewhere that I have never tried before until this year. I've passed by it and have heard about the deals that this place had. My friend and I decided to go try it out, and we got a family pack of 6 chili dogs and 3 chili cheese fries. We asked for jalapeños and got them for free since the jalapeños were low. The worker added 2 jalapeño slices to each hot dog and told us that they were running out so that he didn't charge us. This was really nice of him and definitely added the spice to the hot dog. The hot dogs did not look appetizing at all. There was some pieces of chili scattered about on the hot dog. The hot dog itself reminded me of a regular store bought sausage pack and some buns from the local store. The price really shows in the food that you get here. The fries itself actually looked really appetizing. However, the fries were salty and kinda slimy and was not the best. The hot dogs tasted pretty average and had no distinction. I had to take off 2 stars for the quality of the taste of the food. The service was pretty good. As mentioned, the worker helped us out with the jalapeños. He was also really nice and took our order and made sure that we were getting good service. The wait was long to get the food. However, I think that the service was pretty decent for a drive-thru experience. The best description of this place is definitely that this is the Taco Bell of hot dog places. You pay for a cheap meal, and you get a lower quality product is what that means. read more

First time at a visiting. Not great service, we waited at the window for 10 minutes before we were even acknowledged. The corndog had been overcooked and was inedible, the order was wrong, and the portion sizes were not what we were expecting. Overall a disappointment. read more

I was thrilled to recently find a Wienerschnitzel in Baton Rouge. I used to eat at one as a kid all the time when I lived in Illinois and hadn't seen one since. It was everything I remembered. This restaurant has gotten a bad rap in other reviews due to it's location but I don't really get that. It's right around the corner from a really nice park and down the road from LSU. No doubt it's a favorite of the students. The food is good and it's cheap. They have the best chili dogs! Don't let the pic fool you. They are delicious! I wish they would sell jars of their chili. It's that good! The corndogs are also great. I live an hour away from Baton Rouge and will gladly drive there just to eat at the Wienerschnitzel! read more

I have been coming here since I was child. They stay open late until 2am. I always get the special which is two chilli dogs and fries. Make sure to sign up for there emails they send coupons. This place has been here forever. They have a drive thru and walk up. No sitting area unfortunately. If you love chili dogs this is your place. read more

I've always walked or rode by this place and one day I decided to stop by and grab food. First things first, the prices are great. They seem to always have some kind of special going on and I'm always a fan of a deal. The food was decent, what I would generally expect from a hot dog & ice cream shack. Best chili cheese dogs in Baton Rouge! As a child we ate at the one on airline all the time, so while home I a visit and out at LSU I decided to reminisce and see if they were as great as I remembered. They were. I don't know if it was the nostalgia part of it for me or what but it truly was great. Took me back to being a kid! I love their chili. It's not overly spicy and they are not stingy with it. I also love the cheese they use it melts under the chili an has the best flavor!! I did not even bother with fries! Just got 3 chili cheese dogs and pigged out! It was a fun fast food stop and I am so glad I did it! Cheap food. Great taste. Not a good area -- just outside north gates down from The Varsity. Let me start off by saying the food is excellent. It is always made to order and as far as 'unhealthy delicious food goes' the ingredients always taste, look, and smell fresh. I freaking CANT GET ENOUGH OF THEIR CHILI CHEESE PRETZEL DOGS WITH MUSTARD. Sadly, though, the service at times can be HORRENDOUS. I mean sitting in a drive through waiting at the speaker for up to 20 minutes at times. Orders that you make to go being LOST and never registered when going to pick up your food (huge waste of time) and often things just sometimes take just wayyyyy too long. The other day - for some reason I dunno - they just stopped taking orders.... no reason or explanation but just "We aren't taking orders right now." I love this place. I go often and I have never been scared at night. It has a large well lit Chevron gas station and a Family Dollar across the street and is just down the street from the Chimes and Varsity. The food is always tasty, hot, and fresh. I have never had a chili dog that looked messy like the one in the photo but I can see it happen if one of them is placed in the bag upside down then by the time you get home the chili will leak out a little. The burgers have a taste similar to White Castle but with chili of course and the fries have a nice taste and texture. read more
