Disappointed is the word that sums up my review. After reading all the positive reviews I was excited to try the Linguine Cacio e Pepe in the cheese wheel. Maybe it was my fault because I asked them to put so much of the cheese sauce on it, but it was very salty and heavy. Barely editable. Perhaps the server should have clued me in when she was dishing up the extra cheese sauce. My husband has the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. Located on the prime spot by the Hollywood beach, this place is filled very quickly and has a wait time. We went a little early so the wait wasn't longer but maximum of 20 minutes. We did get a table outside with the view of the beach. Legit the best gnocchi I have ever eaten in my life. I love pasta and gnocchi and all things like it. I like to try gnocchi when restaurants have it and sometimes it's pretty good. This was heavenly joy in my face. So light and delicious. The sauce was perfect. I'm sad we don't live nearby. We weren't planning on coming back but I am now trying to figure out when we can come back. The pesto was good too. The seafood linguine was good, but the gnocchi was by far the best. On the spur of the moment while walking down the Broadwalk in Hollywood, we happened upon Why Not and it was truly one of the best meals we had on our stay. Getting a table for 9 on a Sunday evening without a reservation was surprising at 7:30. Even more surprising was our server, Stefania G- she is a super star! We were speaking Russian and English throughout and I switched to Spanish when we were ordering so she is a trooper for getting through that with her sanity. Always a smile and endlessly patient, she gets a gold star for her courage and bravery while possibly maintaining her sanity! We ordered pretty much everything- apps and salads and entrees. The star of the evening was definitely the Why Not tartar. The octopus was perfect and the flavors were solidly on point. I could have eaten a loaf of bread with what lay in the bottom of the bowl! Shrimp bang bang was good but nothing like the perfectly cooked lamb lollipops. My Pacheri Ossobuco was delicious and I tried the baby back ribs and they were fantastic as well. The skirt steak was well received by one of our party and the 1/2 dozen blue point oysters were fresh and tasty- only thing awry was the fact that they hadn't been cleaned and shucked properly. One of our party had the Greek salad with a side of grilled chicken and that went over well. Kids pasta was on the smaller side so one of the young ones went back for seconds. Calamari was a mix of rings and heads- very good with a sauce that matched. Seating was comfortable and laid back with an open beachy feel. Perfect for our night out. Only suggestion I'll make about ordering, I tried to convince our party not to put the entrees in until after receiving and eating our appetizers- the entrees came out immediately after the apps and the table got very full. I like to space the meal out a bit more to get some conversation in. But alas, the table got full and we ate our way through it. We saved our room for dessert for another place but I'm sure it would have been excellent as well. As I've said, one of the best and surprising meals on our trip! Well done! read more

I was instantly impressed by the cleanliness, the quality of the food, and the variety of the menu. And of course with this location, the view was beautiful. I had the tres leches pancakes which were thick and fluffy, and the passion fruit mimosa, which I could tell was made with real passionfruit because there were some seeds in it. Staying at St. Maurice, we saw that Why Not had good reviews, so we tried it. Nice elevated tables, with ocean view, right on the Broadwalk (also tables down on the walk, or inside) Servers were nice but probably a bit overwhelmed - took a while to get my coffee ;) Ordered Bacon/Avocado/egg on toast and Salmon/Avocado/egg on toast, with hash browns (dont't @ me about avocado toast, it was actually one of the most reasonably priced options) The bacon crumbles and salmon slices were perfect, as was the mashed avocado. I joked with the server that they needed to buy the cook a thermometer - the 'over medium' eggs were decidedly 'over well' - very 'well' indeed. Glad we didn't ask for 'over well' as they might have just been crispy eggs ;) Also, the toast was way over toasted, made it kind of hard to eat. But, lots of food (we took some back to the room) The coffee - well, for a place that supposedly has Italian roots, it was extremely mediocre - not 'Starbucks bad' but surprisingly not great. Of course, the advertised free mimosas were a plus ;) They had a help wanted sign up - I expect it's challenging to get help, so there's that. My wife and I have been dining out for many years. We appreciate a good restaurant and good service. We tip accordingly. My wife has told me in the past that I am too generous. I usually tip 20% sometimes more if the server warrants it. Well I do not like an 18% tip automatically added to my bill like they do at this restaurant after being neglected by server Byron. I asked him for a glass of ice 3 times before I got it. We ordered a 70 dollar bottle of wine and he was never around to pour it. If I had not poured us wine the bottle would have remained almost full.. If I have to pour us wine I am not happy. Whats the server doing? I asked for more napkins and never got them.This dude had better things to do than to tend to our table.It was 530 pm and the place had maybe 4 tables total, not busy at all. We had a 180.00 dollar check then they added another 33.00 dollars for a tip to a server that did not deserve 10%! I guess they know the tip is guaranteed no matter how bad they are as a server. For this reason I will not return to this place. If it were up to me I would have given him 9.00 dollars tip and that is still generous.The food is nothing to write home about anyway. Very bad business practice. Ihave no problem with establishments adding an 18% tip on the check if the service warrants it. It seems that most restaurants in south Florida do this. My issue is with a lazy incompetent server that does not deserve 18% or in this case 8%. Thats my issue. The mind set is , hey I am getting 18% no matter what! Finally a nice place to get some good quality food for the right price on the boardwalk. It's a little hard to find because it is tucked between two other restaurants but keep your eyes open for the sign. It's pretty small and doesn't have too much seating but it is a lot more modern and cleaner than some of the other places on the boardwalk. I love the name of it too. They have a huge menu! So all those picky eaters in the group have to find something to like out of all the options. Their sushi was actually really good and tasted fresh. We enjoyed the surf and turf roll and typically we aren't even big on sushi! I know the burgers looked good,we enjoyed our pastas and they even have seafood. What more could you ask for? Luckily it was not raining so we were able to sit outside on the broadwalk. Their bathroom was broken. The staff was very nice, but forgetful. I went inside to ask for some sauce and dressing, and when I came back out the hostess asked if I wanted to sit down for lunch. So they were not exactly the most attentive, but the food was worth it, so I would still go back. They serve breakfast until 11:30 and we got there at 11:00, so we had an appetizer of fruit and avocado toast. Then we waited till 11:30 to order salads and pastas.
