Had a visitor this week and went up to Ojo Caliente and decided to stop at Whoo Donuts on the way back. Let me add it was late in the day. The donuts were not good! I really wanted to love them, but they tasted day old. Now the blue corn blueberry and lavender was fantastic!!! The overall shop vibe was awesome!! Loved it! The pizza....the pizza was amazing!!!! Thrilled their hours are now extended, because we finally had the opportunity to try their donuts! I totally forgot how a quality donut was supposed to taste. These donuts are perfection! Though they were sold out of several varieties by the time we arrived after lunch, there was still a great assortment of flavors to try. The shop is super cute and cozy. We stopped here while in town because we heard about the blue corn blueberry lavender donuts. It did not disappoint! Very unique. The texture is a little more dry than a blueberry cake donut. We are glad we gave it a try! The blue corn maple pecan was also very good. I highly recommend trying several of the creative recipes they offer. I wish we could have had a bite of each. Our favorite was the traditional Boston cream. They use the same homemade chocolate that the chocolatier uses next door. Their tea is clean high quality Harney & Sons. They also sell coffee. I was so excited to check this place out after reading the reviews. The person responsible for the presentation did an outstanding job. We tried the blue lavender, dark chocolate cake donut, apple fritter and the kolache. The kolache and the chocolate cake draw high marks. The blue lavender was different but I didn't mind it. The reason for 3* was one of the staffers seemed bothered that I was in the store, just cold. My wife told me later that I need to "read the room" :). Stopped in to pickup some donuts after morning hike after driving from ABQ.. we picked up a variety of different donuts and everything was pretty good. Highlights for me was the green chilie apple fritter, which was just ok for me. You can taste and see the green chilie but the texture was not like a normal apple fritter. The Boston cream was good, wish there was more filling, but the chocolate frosting tasted like chocolate from m&M's. It's the "Purple Donut" (blue corn lavender blueberry) and the white chocolate pistachio lemon vanilla that haunt my dreams. And now there is home made blue corn sourdough pizza to add to my slumber time activities. The Norteno (red sauce, mozzarella and provolone cheeses, high quality ground beef, green chiles and red onion) is my current favorite, though I will be trying something new tomorrow! I'm not a donut eater however WHO's DONUTS have to be the best I've ever had. Their modest establishment shares a sign with "coins for sale" so I wasn't crazy about giving them a try. However, Yelp asked us for donut reviews and I begrudgingly agreed. I'm so happy that there are donuts to please even the fussiest. They are even served at the Santa Fe Farmers Market. I recommend warming them up which will take a bit longer than normal donuts as these are dense! I expected it to be alittle like corn bread but it was crunchy, coarse with very little flavor except for the glaze. Maybe I got a dud, I don't know but I won't be coming back anyways. Oh my goodness, this was a solid donut. I stop by on a recent road trip to Denver because you know need a good snack for the road. We arrive to a short line and were able to just check out the different flavors and decide on a few. I went with the blue corn, blueberry lavender, which was amazing. The icing was tart and flavorful and the dough was so unique but very cakey with a blue corn twist. I also did get a second donut, which I believe was a white chocolate pistachio, but I didn't end up eating it because I was full from the first. The shop is small and very casual, but I know that they have breakfast burritos available and of course a selection of coffee drinks. I would absolutely come back. Random note, my friend had an interesting interaction with the barista who asked what we were doing, and when she mention we were on a road trip to Denver he asked if we were going to Massachusetts? The presentation was beautiful and looked delicious. However, I found the donuts to be dry and lacking any real flavor. I was excited to taste the donuts due to the flavor combinations but was highly dissappointed with the final product. I don't eat many sweets for breakfast and was let-down with the results. Obviously, presentation is important and they have nailed this aspect but more attention needs to be focused on flavor and moisture. When I planned a trip to Santa Fe, this was the one thing I had to eat while I was in town. I don't need to tell you that the Blue Corn Blueberry Lavender donut is the star. It's pretty unassuming on the outside, but don't let that fool you. The shop is cute with a little personality that also happens to showcase some local art. Nothing like the standard mom & pop shops you might be used to. They've actually got a decent amount of seating for how small the storefront is, too. The thing that really stuck with me, was how my friend was able to bring her dog in and not be told to leave it outside. It could be that she's cute as hell and well-behaved, but it was nice that we could hang out for a minute and enjoy a coffee and a treat. I got the above showstopper donut, a White Chocolate Lemon Pistachio cake donut to share with a friend, and an iced chai. A had a bit of the breakfast burrito my friend got, but it could've used some real salsa instead of the hot sauce that was on hand. I also heard they've got kolaches on the menu, but those were all gone by the time we arrived at 9:30 am. It would've been nice to compare theirs to those I know from TX.
