I'm pretty sure I've been here before and didn't have a good experience but I recently stopped in here to grab a few items for some minor home improvement projects to keep me productive without getting distracted for hours browsing a Menards or Home Depot. Fair product selection with plenty of all season items. Staff was friendly and helpful. They know the store pretty well. Prices are a bit high and I was in and out in about 15 minutes. 10 of those minutes were walking around aimlessly brainstorming new projects for the summer. Solid place to visit. I've shopped at this particular Ace Hardware for 20+ years. Yes, they are pricey. It's impossible to compete with the big box stores or shopping online. It's a beautiful store, always clean. And real humans there to help you. Remember when you get that TV stand or wall mount... or basketball backboard & stand... it's all made In Chiiiiinuh. The bolts and screws are crap, weak, poorly made. Take that bag of bolts to Ace and spend a few bucks more purchasing exact duplicates of the bolts, nuts & screws. The fasteners included with the product are always weak, cheap & you don't want your $3K television to fall. This is the beauty of this Ace Hardware. You can measure your fasteners' size & thread and get exactly what you need. read more

I've gotten keys cut here for years and only had an issue once and they took care of it right away. No issue with the quality or the price when it was KinKo Ace. Also it IS the place to go if you're looking for anything "off the beaten path" for special fasteners, brackets, plumbing, gaskets, etc....90% chance you WILL find it here! Last evening my wife and I went in to get a key made around 7PM. There were 2 'younger' employees talking at the center counter (where they cut keys) and they seemed to be talking about nothing specific. As we approached the counter, they both walked away toward the front of the store and left us standing there for about 5 minutes...until another gentleman had to come from the back of the store to help us. We could both tell he was a bit miffed that he had to stop what he was doing to cover for them. While he was trying to take care of us, the phone rang and they were STILL talking up front while he was trying to get our key for us. He yelled out her name (Sherry?) to have her possibly answer the phone but he ended up answering it himself (it had already rung 3 or 4 times by that point). She finally came to the counter with a couple of boxes in her arms and ran into him while he was trying to finish up our key. He took care of us immediately, got the key cut for us and got us on our way. The kids were too busy talking and 'making that important connection' (I guess). The only thing we can attribute this to might be the way some younger employees don't seem to have a thing called 'work ethic' or 'customer attentiveness' anymore. The 'kids' need to refocus on who they need to make the 'important connection' with...and it AIN'T each other!. Customers should be #1 when you're working for someone...your social life should come after that. read more

I am actually recommending all Whitmore Ace Hardware stores as I recently was helped by Mike C. one of the owners of the company. I bought a lawnmower in Joliet and had a very difficult time using the machine. After unsuccessfully contacting Toro and the authorized Toro repair shop I was ready to dispose of the machine when my daughter contacted the Whitmore family and I received a call and then a visit from Mike C. who was able to identify the problem and quickly fix it! Where else do you get that kind of customer service! The Whitmore family has multiple stores and I am pretty sure they are investing this same attention to customer satisfaction in each establishment! Thanks Mike!!!! read more

Will make you pay more for services, already paid for. Because they're incompetence ! I took in 3 screen doors a couple of weeks ago. The gentleman measured all 3 doors , checked the corners and everything else. I paid the price that he told me and went on my way. Today I went in to pick them up, was told that the guy that took care of me did everything wrong. He measured wrong and the corners needed to be replaced. Now I owe more money. When I said we checked the corners and asked if the guy that picked them up could have broken them she said "no he's been in business a long time and secures them". As if accidents don't happen. The doors I brought in are a tan color and the corner piece that they unauthorized fix is bright white. Looks pretty stupid ! The lady that talked to me was not helpful at all, she was not letting the screens go. Now I have to wait till I get paid to pay a higher price that was originally told And paid. Why is it my fault you put someone in a position that doesn't now the job. I did not authorize the corner to be repair (that was fine when I dropped it off). And she kept telling me "if I was there it wouldn't have happened ". Sorry I don't think that an excuse. Train your people better, managers and all. read more

Charged me $72.80 to put mesh in two window screens. Kit sells for about $7 with materials for 2 screens. I figured save myself some time and hassle and factored in doubling that for labor because one screen had a dented side that needed probably to be fixed. So I figured at most $10-15 per screen. I should have walked out at left the screens there when the total came up. read more

I stopped in today to have some keys made and to buy 2 screws. I found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable. However I was also looking for some general gardening equipment, which they did not have. This is a nice store, but the selection could be better in my opinion. read more

I walked in staring at all the signs trying to look for locks and then door knobs. A nice employee walked up and saw me in distress and gave great conversation as we walked to the other side of the store. He also knew exactly what type of lock I needed. A very thick steel lock came out to be 10$ which is a steal compared to Walmart and target. I will definitely be back. read more

This hdwr Stone is my "go-to" place for window and patio screen repair. They do an excellent job, very prompt and at a very reasonable rate. This last visit, the manager, Paul, assisted me with recommendations on repairs needed on my patio door. He also pointed me in the right direction to obtain some clips to hold my window screens in place; the manufacture, Republic Windows, went out of business a few years ago and their parts are nearly impossible to find. Small, size and selection. I have went into this ace looking for specific items and have had to go elsewhere 75% of the time. That is just annoying. The last time I was there I was looking for folding chairs. Yes, that should be at an Ace Hardware. The man told me they were just on sale so he had none left.... I really found that hard to believe. Maybe someday I'll rate this location higher, but compared to my ace in New Lenox this one is much smaller and the customer service is really slow. read more

Every time I go into Ace everyone is helpful and courteous. The store is clean and well stocked for my needs. The last time I went in I needed a battery for my thermometer. Several Walgreens and CVS pharmacies and even then dollar stores were out. The manager at Ace found the battery that was in a pack of assorted batteries which cost less than one battery at Walgreens. Went in to get keys made. The manager was behind the counter helping another customer, this lady came up and asked "what do you want?" Well since my youngest daughter was there I just smiled and said I need a copy of these two keys. She literally rolled her eyes at me, I was in a hurry and just let her go on. She sassed and smarted off to the manager as he tried to correct her on which blanks to use. She knew what she was doing!! She was taking an awful long time for two keys and when I asked about them she yelled at me and then the manager. What type of manager takes this from an old hag? She then decided sassing me was in her best interest, it wasn't. She kept insisting that she knew what she was doing. And the manager just sat there and let her speak to him and me that way. I left and paid 7$ for two keys that as you can probably guess- DO NOT WORK!!! read more

It has been an very long time since I've been to a ace hardware. But they were the only ones that carried the item in store that I was looking for. So to Ace hardware I go, and this is a really nice location, and very nostalgic for me because it made me think of way back when going to Ace. The staff was very friendly and inviting, and helped me find the the item I was looking for very quickly and without any difficulties. I was in and out in what seemed like record time. I only come here because it's the only place I know that Re does your screens. My dog ran through the sliding screen door on the deck. So for $35 they Re screen it here. Otherwise ace is typically over priced and doesn't carry the same selection you can get at its bigger brother Depot. read more

They were very nice to order in some hard to find fertilizer for me. They wouldn't price match Menard's normal every day online price though. That was disappointing. They did load it into my car though so I guess it was worth the extra 6.00 a bag I paid for it. read more

They get no stars from me. Had to return a bath spout that kept blowing off when taking a shower and when trying to return it or exchange it I should say I was not only insulted by the manager and told he will not return it because it was used as I explained to him it was missing A screw and I did not know until my father told me that's why it showed water use mind you purchase was only made a week and a half ago. I called my husband while standing there with the manager to have him explain to me the part that was missing while the manager proceeded to argue with me until I asked him to go get the same product to do comparison showing him the part it was missing than insulted me again by saying that's not exactly a screw it's a plastic hexagon I said well my dad is in construction with homes so he just called a screw and then he said well that's not plumbing is it he should stick to his job what he knows. He started to walk away when the cashier said what do you want me to do with the situation he basically shoved the bathroom spout into me And said nothing she is leaving After telling him he did not need to speak to me that way twice in the conversation I was now in tears and left the store completely upset he did give me a new one but really just moving here from Florida I'm not normally being an ace hardware shop or I will never patronize them again. As if I needed to rip someone off for 16.99 I just needed my purchase to work properly . And now that my parents now they will not shop at this location anymore either. read more

If you ever have problems this is the place to go. Our snow blower went out last night and my parents were freaking out. They went there thinking they had to buy a new one. Paul, the store manager helped them so they didn't have to. He had them bring it in and worked some magic, when it was still having an issue Paul kept it and continued to work on it today. When my mom picked it up Paul was so nice and had worked his magic and got it to work perfectly. She was able to come home and snow blow all 11 inches off the driveway!!!
