Since new owners took over Bad. Mani the co-owner is Very slow and more interested in talking to whomever calls her phone; IT's sicking. She applied so much "UV gel " on my nails I couldn't even pick up a coin off the floor. That's how thick it was. Shape Oh.... JUST Horrible!!1/10 HIGHLY WOULDNT REMEND!!!! Free paragon wax Monday - thurs Also make sure you bring cash for tips. They don't do tips on card. Nails: 35$ SNS came out bomb. The nail tech removed my gel and gave me a manicure and then did my sns. My nails were very long and one broke horribly (middle of my nail bed and skin ripped) so I got them cut very short, and they made my nails look very good! They were gentle with my messed up nail. The sns is not thick or bulky. It looks like a gel mani. And they were CLEAN with the sns and didn't just dip my whole finger in the jar. She pored the powder over my finger. read more

I normally come here because they are conveniently located near my workplace. They are clean and for a $9 mani, what more can you ask for. I usually come here during a lunch break. During the summer, you might have to wait a little bit, but that's expected. On occasion I have tried other places in downtown Newark, but this is by far the cleanest! read more

Started coming back here and I've had a few good experiences in a row. They use acrylic dip powder not the kind that's painted on, which is faster and thinner and looks better, but chips a little easier imo. It's clean in here, they use tub liners and clean instruments. I got a pedicure with callus remover (highly recommended) by Marta and really liked how it looked. I do wish they had more color selections for regular polish. They also give you a really hard time if you don't tip in cash and I hate carrying cash. Best option in the downtown Newark area IMO. read more

I used to love this place but my last 2 visits have been less than satisfactory. My daughter got a full set for prom and I spent $70 for her nails not to last beyond a few days. I chalked it up to stuff happens and decided to give the shop another try since I never had an issue before. Well, I recently got a full set for myself, spent a ridiculous amount of money and 2 days later, my gel nails are chipped and cracking. I am going to have to go somewhere else to get them removed and redone, costing me even more money. I didn't have a good first (and last) experience here. My daughter and I were looking for a good nail home and based on the Yelp comments we decided to go here. I will not be returning. I asked for an acrylic fill in and more than half way through my first hand, the young lady says, "you did want Crystal Nail right?" I said No, I wanted an acrylic fill in but she was already half way through so I went with it. Bad idea. I thought the technique was off but I just thought maybe they did things differently especially after seeing that everything was manual. Within ONE week my nails were chipping! I was super pissed. The paraffin is a good idea but not so much for me because it got on my sleeves in the process. For me this place is a bit pricey. ZERO STARS IF I COULD. The lady who did my pedicure did fine. However for my nails. HOLY CRAP I wish I never stepped foot in here. I asked for a fill with cuticle trim. With fills you're suppose to cover as much nail bed as possible. SHE LEFT A GOOD 1cm from the crystal powder and my cuticle. Let's also remember when you push my cuticle back to trim it will look like 1.5cm space. I tried to tell her and she only did well on ONE finger. And then she tried to tell me it's because it's powder. I AM LICENSED IN 4 STATES FOR ACRYLIC AND CRYSTAL. I never seen such a shotty job. Even if I left the powder thing go. ALL MY NAILS ARE NOW CROOKED. I WILL NEVER COME BACK AND NEITHER WILL MY FRIENDS. read more

A friend and I went here for a $9 manicure during our lunch break. It took around 40 minutes- so definitely something going to make this a bi-weekly routine. They mostly use Essie, unlike a few other nail salons in the area that have very few Essie polishes and mainly puts them up in a locked window so we cant try it on for ourselves. They were also very patient, and careful with the nails. I will definitely be back!! My friend got her eyebrows waxed and it was nicely shaped and fairly inexpensive (maybe $7 I think). read more

I went to this salon recently, and my first impression was that it was really pretty and inviting. Very cordial when you first come in. The wait wasn't very long, and the manicurist I saw was friendly. I liked that they don't cut the hell out of your cuticles; they just push them back. Nail stations were very neat and clean, which satisfied this persnickety Virgo.The manicurist was very meticulous about my nails, and they offer a complimentary paraffin treatment along with your manicure, which was followed by a hand massage. They don't rush at all, so you'll get a great mani. I was also very glad to see an active autoclave, and that (at least on this visit) they would open new packages of tools to do your nails--very important, believe me. They have a nice selection of lacquer colours and gels, and seem to be pretty transparent about their prices--no hidden charges. I also opted for an eyebrow wax, and was totally happy with the results. For $7.00, it is an excellent bargain; they clean up stray hairs with tweezers and create an attractive shape. It's definitely worth a second trip...I would like to try a pedicure and see if the place really is as clean as it looked--you can really tell the cleanliness of a place by how their pedicure stations are. I didn't have time for a pedicure the day I went, but I will plan another visit for sure. One caveat: don't go close to closing. Halsey Street gets pretty desolate at night. In the summer, it might not be so bad (more activity on the street), but in winter, you might want to get the hell outta Dodge--and this is coming from a Newark native. (^_^) Update-- 3-30-13: Okay, I may be in danger of gushing here; but I was so impressed I had to add this to my review. An hour before my third visit, I cracked the crystal layer on one of my nails, and one of the owners (I think) cut the damage off (unfortunately, she also cut most of my nail length with it--arrrgghhh) and had me soak my nail to remove the rest. Once I got to the manicurist, Flor (who did my first one here) for the fill-in, same clean stations, same opening of new tools, etc. that I mentioned before. But here's where impressed comes in: she didn't bother with adding a tip to the damaged nail. She just CRAFTED ME A NEW ONE out of silk wrap and resin. And it looks awesome. She has some serious nail jutsu. This time, no free paraffin, but hot towel massage. Also...clean bathroom (thank goodness for that). read more

Staff is very friendly and they work quickly while still Doing a great job. But on this particular visit I wanted to get my brows waxed. I was extremely hesitant because in the past I've had bad experiences. I'm so glad I took a chance & let Sue do my brows! Excellent work. I usually go to a spot in West Orange, but I decided to give somewhere else a go. This place was the highest rated in my area, so I crossed my fingers and gave it a shot. Glad I did! I arrived around 11a and was seated immediately. Maricella was wonderful! I just went in to have my gel polish changed, I like a French mani with black tips--simple, clean, classy. She worked quickly and thoroughly, and made my first experience there quite nice. I thought she actually did a better job than my previous set...I hadn't realized how thick the polish was laid on before. I am hoping to see this set last at least the two weeks advertised, the last set barely made it a week (maybe I should wear gloves to wash dishes?) Over Priced - Dirty Nail Salon - Horrible Nails!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!! I went in for a simple crystal wrap with gel nail polish. Cindy came to help me and insisted that I do the UV gel which was $50.00. I told her that I would rather do the crystal with gel nail polish for $40 since it was CHEAPER, keyword - CHEAPER!!!!! And this is when it all went downhill!!! 1. The woman Cindy who did my nails painted one nail at a time and had me place my hand inside of the gel light machine. She did one nail at a time and kept having me place my hand under the light which I think was the worst method that I've ever seen. 2. The gel light machine that they had me place my hands into were DISGUSTING. They were old and there was tons of stuff stuck to the inside of the machine where my hands had to be placed. 3. The nail job was AWFUL. I had her do a light blue glitter color - she did two coats, some of the nails were a darker shade than others so I had to tell her to do another coat on certain nails so that they matched. 4. So my total comes out to $70.00!!! My jaw literally dropped to the floor. I knew it had to be a mistake. I asked her what happened to the $40 for the crystal nails that she mentioned, she said that it was $40 for the crystal and an ADDITIONAL $25 for any color gel nail polish. WHAT????? I told this woman that I wanted the less expensive $40 crystal wrap, why would I want to pay $70.00????? She said that the color gel was AN ADDITIONAL $25 on top of the $40 for the crystal. After telling her that I didn't have enough money, I asked to see a manager, she went to the back and came back and said "I am the manager" so I'm not sure what she went to the back for if she is the manager. THIS WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD AT A NAIL SALON - I WILL NOT BE BACK!!! read more

I've been getting mani/pedis for more than 30 years, all over the country. (I travel extensively with my job) I have NEVER had one that did not include a foot/leg massage and hand/arm massage...well now I can say I have. The only "massage" was after I questioned the technician about the lack of foot/leg massage, she massaged my hands only, (nothing above the heels of my hands) for less than 15 seconds TOTAL. I'm a nurse, so I'm on my feet a lot. I mainly get pedicures for the massage, so I was extremely disappointed with this experience. The actual nail care was good, the salon is clean, and the price was low ($31) but when I factor in the lack of massage, it's overpriced. I won't visit again. read more

The person who came to massage me was an older Asian man, and I am still in shock for what happened next. He was touching me inappropriately! Update: because I was so pleased with their services the first time I came back here today for a fill-in, and to put it mildly I will NEVER come back. My cousin and I decided to go together. As usual there are three people doing nails and a bunch of pedicure only people sitting around. The girl Cris who did an awesome job on my nails last time wAs off so they gave me another girl. I had a french acrylic with gel top coat. Aside from the Fill in I explained that all I wanted was the exact same design but with pink tips instead. After an hour of the basics the technician starts to paint my tips white, when I ask her why she couldn't answer me. I asked two more times before the manager (who was sitting next to us doing my cousins nails) intervened. She and the tech start talking loudly in Vietnamese (which is so rude) and then the manager comes over to help her. In the meantime my cousin's fill in was an hour in with only 4 nails cleared. ITS A SHAME. The manager leaves her to help the tech work on my other hand to give her an example because she understood what I wanted. Two hours later, the manager gives me a bill for $55! I have been getting my nails done for 10 years, when I arrived all my nails were intact and in excellent condition. She tried to tell me the full in was $30 and the gel overlay was $25! WHAT A SCAM. I respectfully told her this was a ridiculous charge in which she suddenly lowered the bill by $10 citing the techs misunderstanding. Um no, lady you tried to be slick. Also, the owner was present for the entire thing. What kind of owner sees his employees messing up, or a customer unhappy, and doesn't intervene to assuage the situation? The pink tips they finally wound up doing are already starting to chip and it has barely been 24 hours. The worst part is both previous times I've been here it was decent. Very slow service, but decent. And the manager knew I came there regularly and still pulled that? What a joke. In short, stay away from this place, as they abuse both your time & wallet! They do a pretty good job with the pedicures however I can not get my nails done there anymore. I went in on Saturday for a filling on my uv gel manicure and today is Wednesday and my nails look like I've had them done for a month. They're clipped, some nails look good while others don't. I don't often get manicures but I had a special event to go to so I made an exception. The place overall is clean and they did a great job on my manicure. However, the owner seemed a bit of a micromanager which was somewhat irritating. I had one tech shape my hails and apply the base coat, then I had to wait around for another tech to be free to do my design. Mind you, it was a very simple design, literally a straight line bisecting the center of my nail, but she wouldn't let my first tech do it for some reason. I wound up having to give a larger tip and splitting it between both techs because I felt bad. The job was well done though, but next time I'd rather just have one person work on me straight through. read more

I saw no cosmetology licenses on the wall, nail files and temporary sandals weren't new, equipment didn't seem sanitary, the woman doing my pedicure ripped open a blister and then wanted me to put my feet back into the dirty water, and my mani/pedi has several bubbles/chips within minutes of leaving. Definitely a upgrade from the other local nail salons in the Newark area. Very clean and spacious. They did a good job on my pedicure. What I liked best about this place is that you don't walk in to a tight space overpowered by fumes. I was well ventilated and I barely smelled the nail products.
