I would highly recommend choosing a different hotel. So we arrived around 1-2pm. The lady inside the office opened the window and very upset told us check isn't until 3pm. Okay that's fine we know we are early but it was not a warm welcome. When we asked what we can do near the hotel in the meantime she responded "I don't know but I bet you can find something". This was my first time to this city and Yosemite. So we said screw it and drive into Yosemite valley. It is about an hour drive on a road with a lot of tight turns. However it is beautiful! Now fast forward to around 7pm when we came back and there is a new person working the front desk. This man was super wonderful and helpful. He gave us all the info we needed about the area and the hotel. This one man turned out initial opinion on the hotel around. Now the room is not much. Super tiny room with one bed inside. However you can basically park right outside your room, which is super nice. A major downside, the walls are so thin that we could hear the conversations and the tv from the rooms next to us. One of the rooms didn't turn off their tv till 4-5am. A huge redeeming factor of this hotel is breakfast. It's included and is a good continental breakfast. The lady working it was super nice and welcoming. Also another nice thing with this hotel is we saw no kids there. So it was a ton of adventurous adults. Huge bonus. I still wouldn't stay here again but huge bonus. So overall, minus one lady the staff was incredible and so was the breakfast. However the rooms were horrible. The hardest part is in Fish Camp you have only a few options to choose from. So it is this hotel, Tenaya up the street, or going to another town. Personally I would recommend go to Tenaya or into Yosemite and stay at the Wawona Lodge. You will probably have a better experience. read more

TL;DR: Good place to stay for the area and you can't beat the price. They have a complementary breakfast included in your stay. It's a 1 hr drive from WCML to Yosemite. The WiFi speeds are fair and the staff is nice. Made the booking through Booking.com (https://www.booking.com/s/11_6/tujean53 -- if you want a referral). I was in the Fish Camp area region for a weekend wedding and it was the cheapest room I could find on there. Messaged through the booking to ask if I would be able to check in early b/c the regular check-in time is 3 PM. I had a wedding at 4, so I just asked if I could arrive and get a room early and they obliged. One thing that I thought was strange was how the bathroom came with the usual soaps and stuff, but no toothpaste or toothbrush (probs just too used to international travel....). Their Key Drop off is literally a drop off. You just drop the key into a mailbox looking thing that's outside the office that you check-in at. Location: It's close to Tenaya Lodge ( which is where I was attending the wedding, so it worked out for me). It's a little strange b/c to get to WCML, you drive in through a narrow street and it's at the end of the street. It's about a 1 hr drive to Yosemite from here. Breakfast: I've included pictures, but for some reason I was expecting more. But they did an okay job for a small place. They had a lot of beverage options: tea, coffee, apple juice, orange juice, and milk. Wish they had more "food" options other than the toast, waffles, sausage, and hard boiled eggs. I guess that's just because I'm just picky about the food I have for breakfast, but I really shouldn't be complaining b/c the breakfast is included in your stay with no additional cost. Parking: They take note of what car you have upon check-in, but there's ample parking available. You should be able to get the one right in front of your room. Room Condition: Room was fairly clean and the bathroom shower looked like it had been remodeled recently. The room I was in was fairly small (Queen bed), but I just needed a place to sleep for the night before heading to Yosemite the next day so it worked out. WiFi speeds: When I tested it, it was fair. I have T-Mobile and don't have cell reception around that area, so it was useful to route myself from there to Yosemite and it was good enough to download the area offline for future use. TIPS: If you have to check in early, feel free to send a message to WCML when you're making the booking on Booking.com and they'll let you know if they're able to accommodate. This place ain't fancy. The ladies at the front desk are nice, if a bit brusque. We stayed in a sort of double cabin rather than the motel-style rooms they also offer, but when we first arrived there was not one other guest or car present, and I was feeling some serious Psycho vibes. The room definitely smelled like smoke (though smoking is prohibited). It dissipated over the next few days, or perhaps we just grew used to it. Breakfast is included in your stay, and available from 7:30-9:30am. Offerings consist of cereal, bagels, bread (with a toaster), waffles, mini muffins, oatmeal, hard boiled eggs, apples and oranges. There is coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or orange juice to drink. Condiments include jelly and peanut butter, only margarine and no butter (what is this, the 90s?). Dinner was not available during our stay in early May, but I believe once the summer season gets going the "restaurant" is open all day. Just be aware that this means an outside-of-busy-season visit requires you bring your own food (we had a mini fridge our room) or be prepared to drive a good 20-30 minutes into Oakhurst for meals (which is the worst after driving an hour just to exit Yosemite). Still, I would choose lodging like this over some chain. Instead of calling it dated with a slant toward "horror movie setting," let's say it has character. If your destination is Yosemite (and if it's not what are you even doing here?), It's about the closest place to stay, exempting a few bed and breakfasts. It's Covid time so I understand that things are not normal. For the price, the cleanliness etc, and the proximity to the south entrance to Yosemite this place is a steal. First experience lodging at this location, it's fairly priced and the staff are very accommodating. We arrived even prior to the earliest check-in allowed which was 1pm and right away our cabin was ready. We were here for 2 nights, but just for a comfortable 2 nights of stay. I can surely recommend this place to my friends and family, anyone. Once here, there are a few places within 12-15miles away. For the price of $50 per night, this lodge is hard to beat in the Yosemite area, especially around Fish Camp. It's very affordable, and your room will have a shower and heater too! :) Just keep in mind that it's very basic, a microwave, fridge, heater, small tv, and restroom. They even offer continental breakfast in the morning (which we didn't get to try), so it's very economical and cheap. If you're looking for just a place to stay and get some sleep, without breaking your bank, then give this place a shot. White Chief Mountain Lodge gets a well deserved 5star rating from me because of Christy. She does an excellent job managing the lodge. My room was pristine. The rooms are small but have a homey presence. Refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, television and a table with chairs to dine on. Christy sets up a continental breakfast every morning. She is a gem for this lodge. Extremely generous with her time, she anticipated all of my needs. Each time I had a problem she was there immediately. Christy makes this lodge what it is; a well run reliable place to stay while you adventure all day long. if you're planning to be hiking all day long there's no point in paying double or triple for a fancy lodge if you're not going to be using it. I read a handful of bad reviews but I had a good experience with this establishment. I think a lot of the reviews left here are people who are comparing this place to a fancy Hilton. But if you're hiking in Yosemite, you don't need luxury and you're better off staying inside the park if you want that. The only thing I would say needs some improvement is the breakfast they provide in the morning. The hard boiled eggs should be left in the shell so they taste fresh when you eat them. And perhaps some better lighting in the dining area. A good place to stay. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed in at White Chief Mountain Lodge for three nights in December. We paid about $60 per night, which was a great deal! Obviously, this isn't a five star hotel, but for the type of lodge this is and the amenities the place offers, I would highly recommend White Chief Mountain Lodge. This lodge was very comfortable to return to after a long day or hiking and exploring in Yosemite. The room was cozy and had enough space for both my boyfriend and me. I also liked that breakfast was provided. It was a simple, complementary breakfast that included eggs, cereal, waffles, sausages, and coffee! Just what we needed to start off our days in Yosemite. There is also a microwave and refrigerator in the room, with complementary tea and coffee. Those amenities are very convenient to have when you're trying to save money on food or don't want to venture out in the dark. The refrigerator was actually cold (My boyfriend's beers almost completely froze, as a reference). The room also comes with a space heater and a fan. The entrance to Yosemite is about 5-8 minutes away, as well as Mariposa Grove. Yosemite Valley is about 1 hour away. There aren't very many options for food in Fish Camp, unless you go to the restaurants in the Tenaya Lodge (in Fish Camp), drive about 15 miles to Oakhurst, eat in Yosemite Valley, or Wawona (about a 20 minute drive). We rented one of the Cabin suites for one night. The lady who checked us in was so incredibly friendly and helpful in giving us a detailed run down of the road closures entering Yosemite. The room was fine. The Shower is very small in size & short, the shower head is probably at the 5'10" mark. Someone above 6' would have to bend down to utilize it. Water pressure & heat was good though! Someone would consider the room outdated, but it's clean. I honestly don't mind the old feel, but I know some people are picky. All rooms have a tiny fridge, standard coffee pot and TV with a limited channel selection. Beds were very firm, it didn't bother me but my husbands back was killing him the next morning. read more

I stayed here with my daughter as we explored Yosemite National Park. There were certain things that I was not happy with. We got a room with one queen size bed and one twin. The twin bed was the worst bed you can even imagine sleeping on in your life. If you sat on it you sunk down 12 inches towards the floor. The first morning I tried to make coffee in the tiny little coffee pot that they offer. I ran through a water only cycle just to make sure everything was clean and the coffee pot ended up being full of brown hot water. We were very very warm and we could not get the air conditioner to work. And right before we left, I had my daughter look under the beds to make sure we didn't leave anything. And she found a Bluetooth speaker that was not ours. It was a $400 JBL speaker. When we went to check out, we brought the speaker to the front desk and said somebody might be missing this. And the girl at the front desk says, "well we have no idea how long that has been in the room so we do not know who it belongs to". And I said, "well maybe if housekeeping had been looking under the beds as they clean the rooms, somebody might have noticed it!". The woman at the front desk slammed the window shut, and yes I do admit, I gave her the finger. So, if you have been at this hotel and you have lost a $400 speaker I turned it in on June 22/2022 at 10 AM exactly. I hope you get your speaker back. And I hope you never stay here again. We made reservations for two rooms two days before arrival. When arriving to Yosemite we found out that a fire near Yosemite has been grown over night and the whole valley is covered with thick smoke. We tried going in any how but due to two people in our party that are asthmatic and been experiencing issues and difficulty to breath we had to leave the area. We immediately called the front desk explained the situation and asked to reschedule our visit. The woman was extremely rude and refused even to discuss it, refused any kind of refund or even rescheduling for another date. Consider that we made the reservation two day's prior it's not that we were holding the rooms for weeks and canceling last minute. This was the worst customer service we've ever experienced. I guess their situation is so bad they try to get money in anyway possible, no empathy, consideration, understanding, or help to their potential patrons. This little motel is nestled deep in the woods of Fish Camp, about 20 minutes north of Oakhurst and about 90 minutes south of the Yosemite Valley floor. To start, their rates were entirely reasonable--much less than the overpriced, overbooked Days Inn down in Oakhurst. I called about two weeks in advance to make a reservation and got a room with a queen bed just fine, even though it was June (high season for Yosemite visitors). We hit a lot of traffic and were arriving after their office closed at 10pm on a Friday night. I called in advance and they said they'd make arrangements for an after-hours key pickup. But when we arrived there at about 10:35pm, the proprietors were waiting patiently for us and keeping the office open--awesome! They were genuinely nice and caring, which is always refreshing to find. The room was basic, but well-kept and it had both a microwave and a refrigerator--things you often have to struggle to get even at nice hotels. Everything was clean and ready for use, though we noted with curiosity the lack of a phone in the room. No matter--we were up there to disconnect anyway and the proprietors were more than happy to field our questions and such in the office. Overall, it's a little bit far, time-wise, from Yosemite Valley, but it's a great place and they're great people. I definitely recommend it, but especially to couples who are going to enjoy Yosemite and the surrounding area. read more

Infinity Stars! I had the best weekend here with my gal friends. The front desk staff were so cool and very accommodating. I have to give a special shoutout to Joe who moved a cot into our room. He took it down stairs and everything which couldn't have been easy. It was less a cot and more of a heavy movable fold up bed. I was very comfy and slept great. The room was the basics and all we needed - it had a heater that worked great, coffee pot, and fridge. It felt comfortable even with 5 people sleeping in one room! The rooms also look out into a beautiful forest view. We went the last week they are open for tourists (or at least that the cafe is open) in late October. The place was very quiet and we didn't see a lot of people. But the weather was perfect for our adventures down the street at the Yosemite National Park, which is a 5 minute drive to Mariposa Grove. We love Chef Ben and Brie at the White Mountain Chief Lodge Cafe. Did I mention Ben cooked the BEST STEAK of my life? It was gorgeous and cooked perfectly, with a brown sugar glaze, delicious homestyle fries, and he even cut strawberry "roses" for all of us girls. The bread pudding desert was incredible! Honestly? One of my most memorable meals from a vacation, it wasjust perfect. Would definitely stay again! read more

This place was so great! Spent the weekend crammed in a room with 4 lady friends and we had a blast! The staff was so hospitable, we basically made friends with all of them. I liked how quite and tucked away the lodge was. Seemed relatively vacant too which was nice, so we weren't surrounded by tons of people. Our room had a great view looking down into the forrest. Inside the rooms were as expected. Clean, standard amenities, nothing special but all we needed to post up for the weekend. The restaurant onsite was a surprise we didn't know would be there. It had odd hours but was super convenient for morning coffee and bacon! Joe at the front desk was very accommodating when we needed him. And we had a lovely dinner one night in the restaurant. Brie and Ben served us so well and loved hearing about our weekend outting. Another friendly lady refreshed the coffee in the morning before we left (didn't get her name), but also very helpful with Yosemite park tips. Sooo we were told that we were the coolest guests they've had :) White Chief Mountain Lodge definitely had a special small town charm, but you have to be open to it. No expectations! Room was pleasant, but small. There was no chair and no telephone. The beds were comfortable. It was hot inside when we came in at 11 PM but we found the thermostat impossible to adjust but we finally got the heat to shut off. The breakfast was pretty normal except there was no orange juice. It was expensive for what it was ($200 with tax) but this is not a normal location. I would stay here again rather than the Tenaya lodge which costs more than twice as much. read more

If you are looking for Fancy like Big Trees, Yosemite Lodge or the Majestic then head that way. Fancy it is not but quaint and humble. That's more my style anyway. The lady that runs this place, Christy, she is awesome! Not only does she clean rooms manage the desk she also does the breakfast and during the summers she does the dinners too. The other woman that helps her, Missy ( I believe) is so nice and was very welcoming when we checked in. Everything about this place screams down home and country. The only drawbacks are the showers, even though newly done are a bit tiny and the walls are thin in some rooms so if you have loud guests around you then it's not fun. I Highly recommend this place to stay! We were up in Yosemite to film a wedding and we picked WC for their prices. We are so thankful we did! The place is adorably quaint. Tucked within the redwood trees it felt like you were camping. Upon checking into our room we mentioned that we would be leaving for a job very early in the morning. The staff let us know they would open up their complimentary breakfast early for us ( so sweet!) The room was very warm at night so we used the fan available in the room. Bathrooms had been recently renovated, shower was perfect for my size (5'5") but for my (6'1") partner, it was a little snug. Just as promised, they opened up breakfast early for us. Mindy was super sweet and accommodating. Made us feel very welcome! Extra Plus! At the end of the day, about 930pm (we checked out that morning). My partner realized he had left his favorite pillow at the lodge. On a long shot we drove up to the lodge and inquired about our pillow. Kristy not only gave us back our pillow but surprisingly she alerted us to the fact that I had left my wallet at breakfast and she had been trying to contact me all day!! We were blown away by the level of hospitality here! Joe and Gloria went WAY above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Our stay here made our whole trip harmonious. We were seriously floored by how nice these people were. The Lodge is 2 miles away from the entrance to Yosemite, and it's not one of the terrible claustrophobic motels with crazy parking lots that we passed on the way there. It's tucked away in the woods (and still right on the main road) and waking up surrounded by trees was quite spectacular. Be sure to bring anything you might need as far as snacks etc. The room had a fridge and a microwave, and was very clean. The chef on the night we were there, Ben, made us an incredible meal complete with perfectly cooked steak, and Brie, our server was absolutely sweet as pie. I was not to happy about the restraunt being closed the whole 5 days we were here, I was told the lady who owned it was sick , then I asked again the next day they said that it won't be open for business any more. Wednesday night around midnight I seen there was a winter weather warning in effect starting Wednesday night into Friday morning. Chains required, etc. I called Mindy and I explained what was going on. She told me "I can't do nothing about it, you have to email Terri she's the regional manager." Terri emailed me back saying: "No refund for you." I have never experienced anything like this before. It wasn't like I was just canceling because we didn't want to stay here. After staying at White chief for 2 days we left very disappointed. Yes, it is close to the park entrance which was nice and the beds were comfy and rooms were clean. The bad part is that we had little water pressure at any given point of the day and this morning when we got up to depart there was not enough water to shower or barely enough to brush our teeth.The water temp was very inconsistent and based on our experience the hot water tank was not large enough to accommodate the travelers. There is a pier and beam foundation therefore every move made is resounding through the room, so if you stay hopefully there won't be kids staying in the conjoining room to yours, like there was ours! And to top things off not only could we not shower this morning, we couldn't even flush the toilet. We will NOT return to the lodge! There is no separate place to review the restaurant on property so mine is below: We absolutely loved the restaurant on property, who is owned by a different person. The owner was great, allowed us to bring in our own wine and charged no corkage fee. We will definitely return to the restaurant if we return to Yosemite! read more

Wife and I spent 2 September nights here in a cabin. Nice basic accommodations. Yes it's crazy close to the southern entrance, probably best location if you want to be only 20 minutes away from Mariposa grove. THAT was our main thing. Frankly we were more interested in the giant sequoias than the valley. NO RESTAURANT ON PREMISES AND FAR FROM ANY... Having a restaurant on premises or like a Denny's adjacent is a big deal to us. When I checked in, guy said restaurant has been CLOSED FOR THE LAST YEAR... The lady that ran it became sick. Not sure how the previous two reviews had food service at this place. Sorry for yelling, but no place, none within 30 minutes to get a real coffee in the morning. I had to drive all the way into Yosemite village before I got a coffee, that was ridiculous. Small coffee maker in room with powder creamer packets not what I do... After out all day come back hungry and have to drive 1/2 hour each way to get to Oakhurst for any restaurant. SCAREY NIGHT DRIVING TO GET HERE... Good luck taking the windey dark roads up and down from oakhurst half hour away. Wife was freakin, coming back from there to eat so we had to time finishing dinners half hours before sunset at 6:45 and sit in our cabin reading or watching chitty cable tv choices. Bummer is no drinking with dinner, it's like a night time intense monte Carlo style hairpin blind two lane road to get back. Summer probably fine with a late sunset, but fall season with daylight savings time coming kinda sucks having to make your plans around sunset and finish eating by 6pm. If you're the kind of peeps that buy lunch meat at Wallymart and want to make sandwiches in the room this place is fine. For us, we like to eat out use yelp to find a restaurant. We visited White Chief for 3 days. It's about 2 miles from the Yosimite main gate. It's quaint, peaceful, and very quiet. We didn't even hear late arrivals go into rooms. The rooms were clean, with microwave, frig and coffeemaker. Soft beds and excellent heat. Some of the negative reviews in my opinion are from people who want a Hyatt or Marriot. At White Chief we checked in with Mindy who was informative, helpful and very nice to talk to. We also were surprised with the free breakfast each morning. The manager Christy was nice, friendly and gave a lot of info on the lodge. It's well maintained and sits on a beautiful site in the woods. You can always go into the park and pay 600.00 a night or go to White Chief and have the same enjoyable stay for much less. It's a long drive from Georgia but if we ever get the opportunity to return, we'll certainly enjoy another visit to White Chief Lodge. read more

We got one of the "cabins". The vibe was a little murdery if you know what I mean. There was a super funky smell in the room and the carpets were threadbare and pretty gross -- we kept our shoes on most of the time in the room, even though we're happy to go bare foot outside in the park. We went to Tenaya Lodge down the road for breakfast because the restaurant was overpriced and we were told it would take 10 minutes to get a coffee. I asked at the front desk how much a room at Tenaya would be. As a walk-in, it would have been cheaper than the dump at White Chief. And it would include hot tub/pool/clean rooms/decent restaurant/clean bathrooms. Super disappointing. Never again. read more

I made a reservation 3 weeks in advance. I arrive after a long and hectic day at the Yosemite to find that they booked me at their other hotel. It had a different name and no one mentioned it. The woman laughed and said sorry it was "miscommunication ". We had to go to their other hotel which was nicer but an hour away. They were also rude about the situation. Sweet and simple. It was a good stay in white chief lodge for one night. Though it is 30 miles away from yosemite valley but it is quite convenient to go anywhere. Free parking. I would definitely recommend this lodge to my family and friends read more

I spent two nights here while on a trip to Yosemite. Very no-frills Motel. Less than two miles from the southern entrance to Yosemite which makes it convenient, however it is very basic, which fit my needs for the two nights a friend and I stayed there however the on-site restaurant was closed for dinner when we were there. All the rooms had new flat-screen TV's in there, however the Manager told me they had mis-placed the remotes LOL! WiFi was slow but worked well-enough to watch Netflix. Quiet and located adjacent to some woods which was nice to see first-thing in the morning. Bonus that the whole property is single-story and has parking directly in-front of each room which made loading and un-loading the car more convenient. read more

Stayed a couple nights this past weekend and all I can say about this place is that it served its purpose. My fiance and I came out with our parents to check out wedding options in the park; each couple had their own room and we arrived mid day on Friday. It is located conveniently on the way into the park but upon arriving to check in we were told our rooms were not ready. We returned around 8pm to find our rooms ready for us. After returning from dinner (onsite restaurant was not open except for breakfast) and actually spending time in the room, my fiance found a couple condoms (not ours and not used THANKFULLY). Shower was functional and warm, the toilet worked, and the bed was clean to our inspection which was all we really needed. We notified the worker the next morning of our previous night's findings, not knowing what to expect customer service wise, and all we got was an "i'll let housekeeping know." Personally, I would have offered another room and a refund for at least the one night had I been the manager. That day, we returned to rooms that looked as if no housekeeping had been through (not a problem for us) and everything went smoothly. When cleaning up before checkout our third day we searched under the bed to find a dirty sock (also not ours). We once again notified the worker with the same response once more. "I'm sorry, we'll let housekeeping know," doesn't quite cut it when it comes to customer service. We did not demand anything as a result of our experience, preferring not to make a big deal of things. I was however disappointed that we were not offered any type of refund or compensation for our less than clean room. Of our three rooms, only ours was in the condition described. We heard no complaints about our family's rooms. read more

I love it! Warm welcome when we arrived at night and nice and cozy unit. Slept there with 3 friends and had a great time. It's quiet the very is nice. Just what you're expecting for when you go to Yosemite. Unlike some of the previous comments, room are clean! read more
