Omg I've died and gone to heaven! Every cake, pie and cheesecake is to die for, so fresh and so good!

Ohh Whistle Stop! I'll start off by saying I'm generally not the biggest cheesecake fan. If I'm going for dessert, I'll usually spring for brownies, cakes, cupcakes, you get the idea.. After years of hearings raves about Juniors, I finally tried their cheesecake a few years ago and was like 'This is the most famous cheesecake in NY?!' I wasn't super impressed. I remember my parents saying they liked Whistle Stop better. 32 years old and have lived in Oceanside my whole life, yet I had never tried Whistle Stop... this is in the industrial area of Oceanside and it's a grab-and go bakery. I tried Whistle Stop for the first time a few years ago and was extremely impressed (and also confused that I never knew this place existed). The texture is creamy, smooth, melt-y, and just delicious. Their selection is outrageous-candy bars on cheesecakes, rainbow cookie cheesecakes, fruits, swirls, you get the idea. They have so many varieties to choose from. They also have minis (a mini rectangle that is about 2 servings and a single serve mini pie), which is usually what I go for so I don't overeat. There is less of a flavor selection when you go for the minis, but I'm ok with that because their cheesecake doesn't need all the bells and whistles (see what I did there?); the plain cheesecake is delicious on its own. The last time I went in, I bought some cheesecake to bring to my boyfriends family and they raves about it (including his dad, who I have never seen excited about any food). Their key lime pie is supposed to be delicious too and there is always someone ordering when I'm in. That's next on my list to try. They do charge 3% for credit cards, but I'm ok with that since they are very upfront about it and their cheesecake isn't disgustingly overpriced (coughjuniorscough). I have also gone in a few times when it's slow and no one is at the front and it usually takes a few minutes for someone to come to the front (also hasn't really bothered me, but a bell would be helpful). Overall, I highly recommend Whistle Stop. It is the best cheesecake I've had and definitely better than Juniors! read more

Fave got little Mini cakes of key lime, chocolate, Cheese cake; speaking of cheese cake this is one of the best cheesecakes I have tasted on the planet. The texture is smooth silky and DE-licious. Aside from the fest cheese cake , in a variety of toppings and fillings, they have other wonderful cakes and bakery items. The hand make real ice cream cakes. Real ice cream cake is cake layers with ice cream between each layer. If you never had real ice cream cake before you gotta have it. You'll never look at Carvel or Baskin Robbins the same way again. For someone that is not a huge cheesecake fan, even I can say that the cheese cake is legendary ... but it doesn't stop there. Everyones raves about the cheesecake, but in reality you cannot buy anything that isn't delicious here. The item that I'm most obsessed with is the chocolate chip cookies - yes, the ones that look sort of hard and unattractive by the register. They are delicious - not pretty - but they really give Tate's a run for their money. They also make amazing pastries and pies ... surprisingly delicious especially that this place is pretty unassuming. I grew up in Oceanside (20+ years) and didn't venture into this place just because I wasn't a fan of cheesecake. Now, moving back and married my husband forced me in after 35 years and I'm sorry that I didn't try it before. Nothing too pretty here but you definitely get some consistently delicious desserts whether you are a fan or not. Recommended. I can't believe I never took the time to review this wonderful spot! I sporadically visit the Whistle Shop and every time am there, the personnel at the counter always provides superb service. I always go in with the idea that I'm gonna try something different but the cherry crump pie or the plain and strawberry cheesecakes always win me over. Today I had the please of interacting with one of the baker chef there, I believe his name was Dan. He went above and beyond to find me a delicious cherry crump pie as they initially thought they were all out. Love this place, highly recommend for your dessert needs. read more

OMG I'm a San Franciscan native but my grandma lived in Lynbrook so I used to visit her every summer and this, along with Peter's Clam Bar, was our MUST stops. One of the best bakeries in Nassau County alongside Dortoni in Levittown. I had a brownie and the peanut butter explosion cake. The consistency of the baked goods was perfect. I stopped into Whistle Stop before dinner the other night after seeing this as a 5 star dessert place in Oceanside. It was right around the corner from where I was eating, and thinking I'd want dessert afterward picked up a blueberry cheesecake to bring home. I have eaten many (many) cheesecakes before, and all types of them, however, this cheesecake from Whistle Stop was probably the best I've ever tasted. No cheesecake from Cascon or La Cheescake (well known Queens places) can live up to the freshness, creaminess, and deliciousness of the blueberry cheesecake I had from Whistle Stop. I could have sworn I reviewed Whistle Stop before. I'm shocked that I haven't. Well, here it goes. I dont have pictures, because the cake gets demolished every time I get one from here. It's a badass cheesecake, if there ever was a badass cheesecake title. I've gotten canollis here before too, and they're very good. They're done the right way- shells are in a jar until you request one, and then it's filled with fresh canolli cream filling. Their crumb cakes are great, too. There's no complaints- just wish it wasn't in the middle of nowhere! But it's worth a little detour over by oil city if it means a celebration will have whistle stop cheesecake :P Definitely go try it out if you haven't before!
