A friend brought cannolis and a carrot cake from this bakery for Thanksgiving. The cannolis were phenomenal, out of this world. Everyone raved about them. I tried to place an order for Christmas to take with me to PA, but was told they don't take advance orders. You have to go in the same day and buy whatever is available. I almost made the trek from Queens Village on a snowy day. That's how good the cannolis are. I've been going here since I was a kid. I love their chocolate dipped Italian cookies with jelly filling. Their cannolis are also really great. I've been coming here with my mother since I was 4 to get semolina rolls. There are so many beautiful cookies and pastries here. My grandmother's favorite are the s shaped sesame cookies. The items are a bit pricey, but i guarantee you it's worth it. There are no tables or bathrooms here. You buy your food and move on with your business. This isn't the type of place to be filled with people in the morning. I don't really remember ever having to wait for more than one person in front of me. There are a few parking spots on the street (with free 5 minute meters) and a mini lot right next to it. Love this place. I hope it never goes out of business! read more

I found this place after Googling "bakery near me." I was in need of a cake for my husband's birthday that same day and my favorite bakery was closed that day. I got to this spot and it was small and unassuming. The sales clerk was a young man checking his phone waiting for closing time. When I arrived, he was helpful and attentive. I decided on the tiramisu cake, because that's the hubby's favorite. Later that night, we had small slices of this decadent cake. It was scrumptious. Im not usually one to comment or leave comments but this was beyond disappointment. I don't understand how this bakery got 5 stars from other customers. Maybe today wasn't the right day to visit. The cookies were well made and ok but the chocolate mousse cake tasted like it was baked 1 week ago. Instead of getting a slice for $7. I opted to get a whole cake for $18. The fruit tart fruits were dried and covered in something sticky and the custard was just SOUR. Now I understand we're under some tough times but man If you're going to make and sell bakery items and can't afford loss please don't make extra and then try to sell them off. Got cookies and a coffee. The cookies were bland, and rainbow cookie had little color , not much of a rainbow or taste. As I drove away, I took a swig of the coffee. Uggh, gross. I wanted to get my co-worker's favorite dessert for his birthday but wanted a real, authentic bakery cake. Since Schaffer's went out decades ago, I thought Lynbrook was bakery-less. After work, I drove to my "go-to" bakery but, of course, it was closed. It was 6PM...what did I expect? I knew I wouldn't have time to go in the morning and was really bummed. Then, I kinda remembered seeing a tiny place on Atlantic Ave that I had bookmarked. I quickly drove by and the lights were on! They are OPEN? YES!!!!!!! The place was empty but the glass bakery cases were still stocked. The place is a bit dark lighting wise but, the goodies are bright and (as I later discovered) amazing! I was looking for a Mille-feuille aka Napoleon cake. They didn't have one but, offered little individual Napoleons. Even better! It is always embarrassing cutting slices of a birthday cake at work. God forbid there is an "Office Space" Milton moment! They looked amazing and adorable! I ordered the last of them, and the lovely employee boxed them and I was set! I actually couldn't wait to get to work the next day to try these bad boys oh and yeah, surprise my co-worker. Next day... When I presented the classic white box with the signature red and white string, he knew he was about to see something that would make his eyes light up. He was so shocked to see the individual pastries rather than the big long cake. Time to consume. We both sat there between our cubicles and I swear it was silent except for the "yums" between bites. These Napoleons were fantastic. Flaky, thick hard frosting shell on top and delicious pastry cream! My mouth is watering just thinking of them! And with these little ones, everyone gets one! I was so happy I remembered and bookmarked this bakery! I have been back since for the Italian bread and plan on trying the Irish Soda bread around St. Pat's Day. So happy Lynbrook has a bakery I can now call my "go-to!" read more

I want to be a hometown bakery fan; but alas I am not. My actual hometown bakery, the German Shaffer's (technically the town over) shut down ten years ago due to lack of business. I don't know if a store replaced it or how Prosperi stays open instead... Yes, on Prosperi the semolini bread and rolls. Nice; eat fresh bread! But I do not really recommend the desserts which should be spelled with one "s." Everything tastes fake and tired and too sweet or too dull. I especially un-recommend the glue like tarts with tasteless fruit and bland factory crust. My dad likes the danishes and I like 3 layered cookies pretty well but my Aunt Mary Terry makes those from scratch; a long, arduous, and expensive, holiday-only process involving almond paste and magical Italian elves with tiny edible paint brushes. Also, the people that work and shop at not-so-Prosperi look depressed. :( Lighten up people; it's butter. If we are going to fatten up a bit--shouldn't we enjoy it more?! Maybe my family, creatures of habit, have to step it up and go to Rockville Centre for nice baked goods... But I only visit my family a few times a year, and the stubborn and thrifty creatures of habit will not necessarily take kindly to my yelp snobbery! My family, uncles, and first and second cousins once removed, and the other working class East Rock and Lynbrook folks, will, in all probability, continue to support this local establishment-----because it's a local establishment! My family and I liked the pastries from this bakery very much!!!! It's old school, not fancy or anything. But it's worth a visit. The stuff is fresh!!! Stopped by this morning for some Italian bread. I did not get any greeting from the one person behind the counter (No other customers in the store at the time). Despite it being 8am. The Italian bread felt like it was a day old. The bag she placed the Italian bread in left one end of the bread exposed. The place is "NOT" well-lit. It's almost a dungeon in one of those video games According to the lady there is plenty of "Meter" parking (I did not notice until after she pointed it out) directly in front of the store. There seem to be a small variety of cookies, pastries etc in the 2 glass cases the face the customers. At the end of the day. I would NOT recommend this pace to anyone. I can find fresher Italian bread at any local supermarket. read more

I have been going to this bakery for years. It has really good Italian bread. They recently renovated the front area for the first time in years, probably a decade overdue. I also enjoy the cannoli, some of the best around. However, I can honestly say that I just don't enjoy much of anything else. There is simply too much inconsistency for me to give this location a higher rating. I have had cupcakes that were stale tasting and other pastries that while weren't bad, they were just bland. For the Italian bread and cannoli, there are few other places I would go to. For the rest, I recommend others that are close by. read more

I was so disorganized and hadn't gotten a birthday cake for my wife so we chanced upon this bakery as it seemed to be one of very few open on a Monday. The guy who worked there was really generous and polite. He let me try some cannoli cream as I had never had any before, which was amazing. And the rainbow cake we got went down a storm. This is the only bakery I go to now. fresh italian or semolina bread, and round loaf bread is always good. The mini cannolis ( chocolate and regular) are awesome; I always bring them when we have a family dinner, and they are always a hit! I like that they are open late, very convenient. I am an Italian American who was raised in "downtown" Brooklyn with terrific Italian bakeries. I've been a patron of Prosperi since it has opened and it is a very good Italian bakery. The breads are outstanding - Brooklyn quality. The cheesecake with the fudge topping has received rave reviews whenever I bring to someone's dinner party. Their "everyday" biscuit type cookies are good - love anyone of them with chocolate dip or bits on them. Their pastry is tasty, light and fresh. The mini chocolate covered canoli are to die for. Their fancy cookies could be better. We have had other cakes from their menu and they are good. read more

i really wanted to like this local italian bakery. first off, no biscotti?! really?! so i chose a cannoli for me and cupcakes for the kids. the kids didn't like their cupcakes - which is a first for my kids. i had to taste, and i can see why my kids didn't like them - they were terrible. didn't taste fresh, chocolate had an almost sour taste. yuck. and my cannoli was awful. i kept biting it, thinking i was getting it wrong, but no! it was bad. it had a stale taste, no crunch. wasn't worth the calories, so i dumped it. terrible bakery experience. will not be returning. do not recommend. read more
