My first time coming to this location I like it better than Rockville Centre. Very friendly staff nice atmosphere. I order avocado toast on sour dough bread no onions, capers or jalapeño peppers and a small black ice coffee with liquid sugar. There prices are reasonable great service food and beverage taste great. At one point it did start to get crowded but the line moved quick not a long wait for your order to be prepared. It's a small shop just like their Rockville Centre location. They have also recently gone away from their cash only payments & have a system to tap your card to pay. Staff was friendly. I'm not sure if it's only this location or if it's at both, but they have their regular flavor list along with a custom flavor list so I chose the toasted marshmallow mocha to go with my iced latte & enjoyed it. I was excited to see there was a cafe on my route not too far away from Southern State Parkway. There was ample street parking, paid and free if you were willing to walk just a little. I liked that there was a huge sign on the door letting you know the establishment is cash-only. There were a lot of people in the cafe despite it being awkwardly late in the morning. I waited a bit and decided to order the Mandarin Earl Grey espresso tonic, which sounded really refreshing. The drinks were crafted pretty quickly considering there were two baristas making drinks and handling the register. I sat for a little bit (inside, though there were tables and seats outside). The baked goods, which seemed sourced from elsewhere, looked good, but I wished I had room for the egg tacos, which sounded delicious. Looking for a local coffee shop when in the Malverne or Rockville Centre area? Then Kookaburra is for you! I visited their Malverne location on an oddly chilly August morning while waiting for my car to get its annual inspection at my nearby mechanic. Outside the entrance, there is a picnic table and some other seating for those who prefer to be outside. There is a rear entrance where the parking lot is, which is convenient for those colder months when you don't want to walk around an entire building to get to a front entrance. The ambiance is welcoming and the staff I dealt with were all smiling and happy to greet customers. The young person who made my latte was helpful answering my questions about their drink menu. I opted for an almond milk latte with one of their homemade syrups: lavender shortbread. I also ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese danish, which sounded interesting. GROWS: This is a cash-only business (hence, deducting one star). It cost me $8.95 for a bacon-egg-cheese danish and a large almond milk latte with one of their specialty syrups, so I am glad I had cash on me. They didn't offer to heat up my BEC danish; it was cold when I bit into it. At that point, I didn't have them warm it up for hygiene reasons (would you want your stuff reheated in a place where they put an ABC piece of anything???). As such, I couldn't properly assess the delicious factor, so if you try it, or anything else that should be served hot, ask them to warm it. Parking is on-street or you can use the lot in the rear. BEWARE: This lot is permit-only or metered in most spots. Read the signage carefully. GLOWS: They offer free Wi-Fi, which is pretty stable. There are outlets spaced throughout, so if you are looking to do some work here, they can accommodate your needs. There is comfortable seating for groups of 4, or smaller 2-person tables along the wall. There is also a counter area where there are 3 stools for those who want to sit solo and read, or watch the baristas work their magic. They have a wide variety of danish, muffins, and even offer huge NY bagels with different kinds of spreads. This venue is well-maintained and spotless (this Virgo loves order, cleanliness, and good hygiene! LOL). The long line was handled swiftly, and I didn't hear anyone return to the counter to have something corrected. Kudos to Kookaburra! read more

They have quite a range of pastries for super low prices (like a cookie muffin for $1.50, how can you say no?), and there is a bit of seating, too. It's quiet so you can hang out and read. But the line can get long and obstructive, so beware. Cash only is a hassle. No idea why they refuse to move over to the digital side. Parking is also awful around there. read more

An absolutely lovely experience! Inside is quite tiny, but filled with plenty of charm. A few seats to pass the time, twinkly lights strung around, a bike lovingly hung on the wall. Despite its size, there was plenty of patrons patiently waiting for their drinks, so you know this place is well loved by the community. There is plenty of options to choose from on the menu: classic cafe fare, speciality drinks, baked goods. I find it absolutely brilliant that they do offer mini pastries as well! I opted for a mini blueberry muffin and a Kookaccino and was serviced pretty quickly despite the line. The Kookaccino was quite pleasant. It's an iced drink, very much akin to a Coolatta or an Iced Capp but not as sweet, which was nice. The blueberry muffin was buttery and fluffy. Not many blueberries throughout but I just assume its because the muffins are so tiny. A lovely accompaniment to my Kookaccino as I accidentally walked too far to Lynbrook... I visited Kookaburra Coffee Co in Malverne, but unfortunately my experience was disappointing. The staff and ambiance were pleasant, but my order for a nova lox on an everything bagel was not executed correctly - I received a salt bagel with chopped up salmon bits that didn't meet my expectations. Additionally, the chai latte was not great either. It was way too creamy and lacked any chai flavor. Also I have to mention they only take cash so I had to go next door to use their neighbors atm for an additional fee. They also have a chase bank down the block. While the coffee shop has a friendly atmosphere, it may be worth double-checking your order to ensure it meets your expectations. I'm willing to try my luck again but most likely will go elsewhere . read more

Went to this location twice as the first time went and it was cash only unfortunately I didn't have the time to get cash and come back, as the ATM next door charges a fee. Second time went prepared with cash and was not even welcomed stood there for at least 5 mins as one of the girls working were just standing there waiting for something to be blended, and the other took her sweet time making a Matcha coffee as they only conversed with one another, No one looked up to greet or even ask if they could get anything started as I only wanted a cup of coffee, Would've liked to have tried the pastry's and other items but twice was disappointed and ended up walking out. So because of the reviews here compared to the RVC one, I had planned for my first time , to go to RVC. I called to make sure they were open in RVC, no answer. I called Malverne and yes, they are open. I bought the Kookachino w/toasted marshmallow n mocha, the Advocado toast, Irish soda bread and the peanut butter n jelly bar. I brought my puppy for the visit. There was a another dog there, the same breed as mine, but 8-1/2 years older that does not like other dogs, so that was sad, so glad my pup loves all dogs. Anyway, the kookachino was DELICIOUS and so was the Advocado toast. Took a crumble of both the Soda bread n PBJ bar, very, very good. Staff was very personable and friendly. Things I liked: 1. The Maple Sage Latte. It's toasty, warm, not too sweet, but a perfect blend of flavors. I'm not sure what I expected Sage to taste like, but I liked it a lot. 2. Customer service. Aw man they were great. Great energy, smiles, everything. Coffee shops to me are a social, homey environment and everyone here made sure of that as well. 3. Menu variety. They have cool lattes and a food menu that goes beyond avo toast, and I appreciate that. Eh: 1. This place is cash only. I rarely have encountered coffee shops that are cash only, so that was certainly interesting to me. It's very welcoming there, the music is great, the pastries are well made and I don't mind the cash-only policy. It happens. Some baristas are naturally friendlier than others and that's okay too. Oh also, you have to tell them you want a stamp card, it's not just readily available on sight. Kinda funny how that is but that's not even a complaint for me. Every cafe has a quirk or two. However, every time I order a vanilla Kookaccino it's made differently. I honestly don't even know who's made it the correct way because of how inconsistent I've had it. So okay, instead, I order a Vanilla latte. It's cheaper and you can't mess that up, cool. Tastes great each time. Another quirk I suppose. Ultimately, the reason why I'm not motivated to go there was because of the business hours. The Kookaburra in RVC is even open a few more hours longer than the one in Malverne. I often found myself deciding to go somewhere else by the time this Kookaburra is nearing their closing hour. Always the weirdest experience. Awkward ring up and no one seems to help each other out behind the counter so nothing is efficient and it all feels lumpy and choppy, even if it's not busy. Everything I've had to eat or drink here is mid, but not awful. The everything bagel I had most recently was so covered in salt it was almost inedible. I am KOOKY for KOOKaburra Coffee!! I instantly felt invited once I walked in. This coffee shop is very cute and cozy and pet friendly!! When I was there, most people ordered to-go but you can sit down and enjoy your coffee and snack for as long as you like. It is a great place to study, relax, or catch up with a friend. I was there for about an hour and a half and there was always a seat available. Even when a line was formed, the noise level was calm and quiet. They have a reasonably priced menu and some non caffeine options such as protein shakes, hot cocoa (which is what I ordered), and tea. There are also little snacks such as bagels, brownies, and cookies. The baristas were very friendly. Parking is metered: on the street or in the lot in the back. There is a convenient back door if you do decide to park in the back. I would highly recommend this place for avid coffee goers. Their coffee selection sounded delicious and their pastries looked yummy. For me, I am not a huge coffee drinker but if I am ever in the area again I would definitely try a pastry and another non-caffeinated drink. read more

Officially my favorite coffee place! The coffee, food, and staff are beyond perfection. I've been here twice and stayed to do some work for a couple of hours. Each time that I've been there, I have observed the staff continuously greet and converse each one of their customers, regardless if they are new or old. The coffee is phenomenal and as a broke college student who can't afford much, I have to say the prices are reasonable. 2 bucks for a good cup of coffee is 100% worth it, in my opinion. I love their special brew, Rwanda. I haven't tried the other specialty drinks but I don't need to because I love their coffee. Yes, yes, and yes again. This place gets it right all the time. If you haven't done so already, I'd HIGHLY recommend you add oat milk to your coffee; it's the secret ingredient. My fiancé and I came here for the second time to get lattes (one iced and one hot) with oat milk and it definitely hit the spot. Our barista catered to our needs and even told us if we didn't like our beverage he would gladly make it over; such great customer service.
