Slow service, mediocre food. Had to switch from a booth to a table because dead bugs were falling out of the ceiling vent. Won't be back.

Mac and cheese side is from a craft box. Chicken Fried steak is good. Wife said shrimp was mediocre and fries were unsalted.

If you're visiting Mount Rushmore and looking for a place to eat before or after your visit, I…read morecan't say enough about the Powder House restaurant. It is a must stop. Service was really good from the time I called to be added to the waitlist to our hostess all the way to our server. The food came out at a reasonable time. Ordered: -Kids spaghetti -Kids cheeseburger and fries -Ribeye- a little chewier but still a great cut. -Prime rib made perfectly very flavorful I was super surprise and highly recommend prime rib if you are a prime rib fan. It comes with two sides which I got to pay extra and ordered the garlic fries. Overall, I highly recommend stopping by here to dine. I have no complaints whatsoever. It was actually the best meal I have had during my visit to this state. When my sister in law recommended this spot, I did not think that I would have enjoyed it as much as I did. Just because there is not much food options in the area and I didn't think that this spot could produce really good food since I am from California and am a foodie. And well Powder House is kinda in the middle of no where. Well, 2 thumbs up from this Yelper. Add this spot to your bookmark and make sure you go! Tips: -Call ahead to be added to their waitlist. -Indoor seating only -Alcohol served here -They have a kids menu -They have their own private parking lot -Credit card accepted -They do charge for splitting plate of eight dollars. -Restroom available. -Very laidback casual atmosphere.

The country fried steak is one of the best ones my husband's said he's had. Our waitress for dinner could have been better with checking on us. Breakfast came fast but our waitress was good. We had the best meal and time here! Not from these parts-we come from down south in Tennessee but…read morethis place looked good for a hot meal after a day of hiking. We had precious Lynette as our server who was all smiles and ON IT! We were going to order the 8 pc fried chicken meal but Lynette recommended the 4pc dinners so that we could have our one side and the salad/soup bar. Salad bar was fresh with many good choices. The soup was yummy too BUT the fried chicken OH MY STARS!!! I usually don't order fried chicken north of the Mason-Dixon line but I have no regrets that the devil led me to it here! 5 star slam-a-jamma! Excellent! Cooked to order and arrived to the table piping hot! Fried to perfection! I got the mashed potatoes with the chicken gravy, and that gravy was as good as grandma used to make... down in South Georgia! We are in town for three days and nights and will be back tomorrow night! Momma wants to try the pie! They give a military discount and we are so grateful for their support of military families! All around GREAT experience. OK-need to follow up-I stand by my review of the fried chicken 100% but went back the following night for dinner and had a completely different experience. Our waitress was awful-left dirty dishes on the table despite coming to our table several times. She was not rude but she wasn't nice either. My husband got the cod-said it was good but the portion was too small for the price. The only reason he didn't leave hungry is because he ate my dinner too (the second one) I ordered the hamburger steak with brown gravy and sent it back to the kitchen. So gross-limp institutional food grade garbage and my entire plate was flooded in flavorless brown gravy. One bite and that went back! So-I ordered the chicken tenders thinking they must be good since the fried chicken was so good-right? WRONG! Again-premade garbage thrown in a fryer straight from the freezer. I took one bite and gave the entire order to my husband ( he is retired Army and will eat anything) I didn't even bother to try the pie, I was so ready to get outta there! So-if you come here, eat the fried chicken...that's all I can say!

Honestly if I could give zero stars, I would. My husband and a friend of ours went here last year…read morewhen leaving Sturgis and loved it. This year I went and it was complexly awful. Everything from the attitude greeting at the door to paying the incorrect tab amount. It was awful. It took us a minute to find parking and finally found a spot up the street. We walked in and immediately the lady said how many people, we said 4 and she then said 'Well we have a limited menu today. You can get a breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich or biscuits and gravy'. All of us were fine with that and said that is okay, then she looked around the room and said 'Well it is going to be a while' and then walked away. Not even a hi when we walked in the door, just straight to trying to drive us away. I went to the restroom and as I came out a table of 5 people that all had biscuits and gravy was being sent back the kitchen. That didn't look good since that is what I wanted. I heard the server ask the cook if he could heat them all up. I guess they were all cold. I could deal with that. We stood around waiting for about 15-20 minutes and the I walked over to their tiny casino area and threw in $5 to waste some time. Finally the same rude chic said to us that she had 2 high top 2 seat tables if we wanted to split. We were tired of waiting so we took them. Then we waited and waited. We watched several people come in and wait to be greeted and never spoken to, so they leave disgruntled. We waited maybe another 15-20 minutes watching other tables wait for their food and even their drinks to come. We finally got asked what we wanted to drink. We got iced tea each and ordered our limited menu breakfast. And then we waited FOREVER. The table next to us finally got their food in 2 waves with about 5-10 minutes apart. The server said the cook cannot make the gravy fsst enough. Honestly, they shouldn't have the biscuits and gravy on the menu if it takes that long. And why couldn't they have a basic breakfast, eggs, hash brown ham or sausage and toast. This was literally the items on the sandwich or the burrito. Would have made things easier for the cook. Our food finally arrived. My husbands breakfast sandwich looked amazing and it was steaming hot. My biscuits and gravy were good.... at first. One biscuit was light and fluffy but when I got to the second biscuit it was completely burned on the bottom. I couldn't even cut it. I gave up. The server gave us our tab and charged up for an omelet and hash browns for $13. They didn't even have omelets available! Then when my husband questioned the bill and the server started arguing with him. How are you going to charge us for something you don't even offer? It was ridiculous. Overall we were there for almost 2 hours which cut in to our drive time to come back to Denver. Thanks, but I won't ever be back.
