I can't say enough good things about Whips Automotive in Wheeling, IL -- and especially Sam, Tommy, and Lefty. These guys are the absolute best. I've been coming to them for over 10 years, and even after moving out of state to Nashville, I still trust them with my cars. Recently, I bought a used car in Illinois and made a point to bring it to Whips for a check-up. True to form, they treated me like family -- just like they always have. They looked out for me, gave me honest feedback, and made the whole process easy and stress-free. It's rare to find people this helpful, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind in the auto business. If you're anywhere near Wheeling and need a mechanic you can truly trust, this is the place. I'd give them 10 stars if I could. read more

I brought in my Mini Cooper whose oil pan cover I had ripped off on a parking block. I don't know the name of the gentleman who fixed it immediately and told me to tell my mechanic in Chicago I needed several other things done. He wouldn't accept any payment -- I am so grateful, and if I find myself in Wheeling again, I"ll stop in to tell him personally! read more

Over priced and definitely not honest. Thermostat issues for the 3rd time, what a joke. Letting ppl know he's a scam artist. The code PO 128 went on again after charging 1150.00 To replace the thermostat housing. Lefty the klefty is not an honorable operator read more

So happy to finally find a good autoshop in the area. Lefty and his team had my car finished before end of day. I dropped it off at 2pm. No surprise check engine lights or anything of the sort when I received my vehicle. Thank you! read more

Have always received prompt service and fair prices. I would recommend this auto repair service to anyone.

I've been using Lefty and his Son's place for fifteen years now and brin all of our vehicles to him. Reasonable Pricing Knowledgeable Mechanics and they stand behind their work. if you like H1 Hummers it's like a showroom and a museum. Nice people doing good work! read more

They did a good job! Will be my go to garage from here on. Affordable price too. I got my Catalytic Converter changed from here and they did a good job! read more

They told me they replaced a VVT valve. 1 hour after picking up, the same issue came back VSA light on causing my vehicle to automatically brake while driving. Replaced for a second time. Again issue returned. Brought to another shop and told me the Whips did NOT replace the VVT valve as they stated and I paid for!! Plus what they did put in was missing a second part. Very disappointed and a big hassle. They did refund me which was good. read more

I am incredibly cautious with mechanics. As you can see from my other reviews, I've had my issues with other car repairs places. That said, Lefty and his team have been absolutely phenomenal and I Am recommending them to everyone I know now. They gave me a list of everything I needed done, and even let me take a look at some of the issues with the car before closing it up again. They were also super candid about what could wait and what couldn't as I was on a limited budget between paychecks. I am so grateful to have found Whips and I am happy to support them with my continued business. read more

Great place , the owner was so good and fixed the issues quick. The cost is very low, finally got a good place for autoshop. Thank you.. Keep the good work. read more

Total Heros, My wife has the nice car and today it's battery died. She tried to jump it - no luck. Concert tonight at the high school (of course) so compressed for time I called Whips. Gentleman named Sam answered, I explained the situation and that I had been a customer for a long time. They told me they'd get to my wife and car in 45 minutes. 10 minutes later she texts me - they were already there and got it started. She followed them to the shop. They tested everything they could, appears to be the battery. The battery is less then retail and the whole thing was reasonable. Under $300! To Lefty and his team - thank you making me look good because I called you! read more

Great friendly, quality, fair work and prices! Both myself and significant other go to Whips! They just went above and beyond to check out the exhaust system work they did on my 20 year old car! read more

Another great experience. Looked at it fast and got my maintenance required light shut off. It's the little things that make a difference. read more

Whips Automotive - Git a HUMMER then Lefty's the man. He us truly an army of one. He modifies these bad boys like no one else. - Auto Repair Near Me - Wheeling, Illinois

These guys are generally good. To save money they even check manufacturer's recalls first! However, they can be very expensive sometimes. Get an itemized estimate for the total amount and question the number of hours they'd require to put in for a particular job. Lefty, the owner, is knowledgeable and polite and his sons provide good service. read more

Best shop ever. My dad has been coming here a long time, and I started coming a while ago as well. I come all the way from Chicago for him! His prices are very reasonable. I have been to many different shops. Most of them try to add things on or say things are necessary RIGHT NOW that aren't to try to get me to spend money. As a young single mom, I'm happy that I have a shop that tells me what my car needs and what it doesn't. Im on a SUPER tight budget and Lefty is honest with me about what I need immediately and what I can hold off on. And what's not necessary at all. Best shop. I will always make the drive for his shop and if my car breaks down, I don't care where I am. I'd have it towed here. Love lefty and all his staff read more

I took my car in and always Lefty and the whole staff are nice and make a quick service. They provide good service and lefty watches out for the only things you need not like other dealers or shops that put you 10 more things! Thank you for doing a good job on my car! I'll always go here for my car problems! read more

Stay away!! Do not buy a vehicle from them!! Lied to and rushed drove a long way to get ripped off by scammers. When contacted told I was on my own!! So beware of the slimy owners read more

I had an issue with my front brake caliper being stuck closed. I was quoted 850 for a front brake job at CarX which I felt was I over priced and out of my budget. Called Whips, was quoted a price on the phone of 550, which was right on target after bringing it in. With tax and all it came to 570. They were super nice, did not charge me for anything or try to sell me I didn't need and was quick to get it repaired. I would definitely go back with my future car needs. read more

I am Walking in customer. These guys are the best !!Great service ,very efficient! Also GREAT pricing !For now on,my car will be taking care off only by Whips Automotive !!! read more

A great reputable Greek family owned and operated Automotive Shop. The owner is a H1 Hummer Guru (to bad they do not make them anymore for civilian use). The best part is they are pro-military and give a military discount. Great honest people who are not going to rip you off. I had a problem with my windshield washer. I replaced the pump, cleared the lines, and looked at the fuses...nothing. I had two mechanics look at it (including a Marine Mechanic friend)...no one could figure it out. In less than an hour they found the relay needed to be cleaned and "vundabra" it works now. They did this just before they closed in under an hour. What a great place that that has been in business for over 35 years. Now I found a good professional automotive shop that I can trust. This is coming from mechanically inclined professional. I have done most of the work on my car and my family's and friends vehicles (foreign and domestic) myself. I have taught myself but when I'm stuck I always consult a professional mechanic usually friends I know. I just moved to the area and its great to find a good mechanic so soon. God bless them. read more

I have only come in here for regular oil changes. They are always very nice and fair priced. They don't try to sneak in hidden charges like other places have done to me. If they do find something else on the vehicle that may need fixed, they won't push you to have it done that day. I will continue to come back here if I run into other issues with my vehicle. read more

STAY AWAY!!! Do not use this shop. They will not commit to their estimate. They will charge you triple of their estimate and not call you for approval. Lefty is a snake!! Do not use this shop!!!! read more

I was referred here by a customer of mine that used to sell Mac Tools to mechanics all over Chicagoland. I asked him to refer me to a place close to where I live and he told me to go see Lefty at Whips. I did so and I'm glad that I did. Lefty and his son have fixed all of my automotive problems for the last couple of years now. I sold my 2003 and now lease two 2016's so I haven't been in for a few months. Still this is my mechanic and I completely trust these guys to get the job done at a fair price. I plan on going in soon to have some remote starts installed on both of the new cars. I had one put on my 2003 before I sold it and never had a problem with it. Great guys that you can trust! read more

The owner is a crook. Repairs a problem and when you come back 2 weeks later with the same complaint tells you it's another repair. In 2 years 2 starters at $400.00 EACH. BEWARE read more

They are just really good people who know how to fix cars. I brought my ford explorer in, and they did great, and were fast too. They also fixed my Mom's VW bug, which most mechanics couldn't seem to do. I love them, and will using them again. Highly recommended. read more

Being a girl I'm always defensive when it comes to cars and mechanics. It always seems like mechanics are trying to rip you off in any way they can but not Whips! Their pricing is fair and reasonable compared to others. They are my go to mechanics even when I have no idea what's wrong with my car. They always find the root of the problem quick. They also take the time to explain and answer any questions that you may have. Oh and they have the such an awesome collection of miniature cars that you can look at in the waiting area. Highly recommend them! read more

Lefty and his team are incredible. I trust them with all my vehicles to tell me the truth about what needs to be done, what should be done and what does not need to be done. Their pricing is more than fair. You cannot go wrong here. You won't be sorry. They truly understand automobiles as well as customer service. 6-stars! read more

I don't know what Raymond is talking about, I've used these guys twice, they gave me a good price, didn't try to upsell me, and my dad had the same experience. I think Raymond works for Checkpoint/Goodyear. Also he's apparently quite the racist xenophobe. read more

They are a really friendly, honest group of guys. Pete (the son with the black spiked hair) is probably the friendliest, most helpful mechanic I've ever had. They also get your car in quick and have it back to you ASAP. They also are very quick to take responsibility if they need to re-do a job. They are a bit specialized with Hummers so I've seen them have a tougher time diagnose issues with my Honda then other places, but in the end they do the job right. Bottom line though they are honest in their assessment of your car and you don't have to worry about being ripped off. read more

Shop told me my car was fixed and it was not. I took it back and they refused to fix my car the right way. They were very mean to myself and were screaming and swearing in front of little children. Please stay away from this shop. The owner Lefty does not care about his customers and only the money he gets from you after lying and not fixing your vehicle. read more
