This is long overdue. Ken is an angel. I have far too many stories about Ken but here are two. I locked my keys in a car and Ken came himself, unlocked my car and never charged me. Another time I was getting my oil changed and a very elderly person came in and Ken walked out to her car took care of her problem. When she tried to pay, Ken would take anything. I don't write many reviews, but I want everyone to know Ken. Not only is he a great honest mechanic, he is a wonderful human. He has literally restored my faith in humanity. read more

Ken was my mechanic. Polite and to the point. The prices were more than fare and he had a shuttle bring me back and forth. The location is out of the way and hard to find, plus the waiting room is not the most luxurios in the world. But his knowledge, price, and taking the time to talk to me out weighs the weaknesses. Ken performed quite a few repairs for my vehicles. 1. New brakes on my BMW 645Ci. The BMW stealerships wanted around $1200.00 and Ken did it for $600. 2. New Altenator on my BMW 645Ci. The BMW #$&*%$#@ wanted $1600.00 and Ken did it for $450.00 Tires, brakes, or new engine; this guy can do it all. This morning, I noticed that my steering wheel would shake when I accelerated over 40 mph. Convinced it was the alignment, I took it here at the last minute. Ken took a look at it right away, and identified the problem as ice buildup in my wheel rim. He fixed it and I was on the road in 20 min - and he didn't charge me a penny. Ken at Suburban Auto Center repaired my 2010 Ford Focus after I learned that it needed a new thermostat. A male friend referred him to me, and I'm so glad that I decided to go with his suggestion. Ken treated me with dignity and respect, and didn't talk down to me just because I'm a female and don't know much about cars. My vehicle was repaired in one day, and at a very fair price. He is very honest and trustworthy, which unfortunately is rare in this day and age. I called ahead of time to explain my issue with my Toyota Corolla and I asked for a ballpark price, I know they can't give an actual price without seeing the car but all I wanted to know was whether it was around 200 or around 700 because that's a big difference and they said they couldn't tell me till I brought it in I brought it in and talked with the guy for a few minutes then he said he could get me a quote and then when he came back and I asked for it he said no it will take me a few days and then I'll get back to you. Then why would the lady person on the phone tell me to come in and they could give me the quote and she didn't tell me the fact it would take them several days to get one I thought they could look on the spot. My second issue is I had a separate issue underneath my car where something had to be secured up because it was rattling, and I asked them if they could take a look,and the guy said I'm sorry were closed, and I said it's only 415! I called earlier I thought they said you guys were open till five!? Then he said well we are open till five, but we're already starting to pack things up so we cannot look at that now. however when you get the mirror fixed I will look at it then. I wasn't asking them to do a shit ton of repairs under my car 40min to close. I was just asking for five minutes of him to look under & to tell me what he thought he could do to secure said part from rattling bad! It's like the other auto shop by my boyfriend that I called once at 7:15 in the morning when it says online they open at seven, and I said OK I'll be in with my car in 15 minutes after I explained the issue, and the guy said actually could you come in at eight or later we open at seven but don't start working on cars till eight! Then it's like why not list your hours is 8 AM. These two auto shop should marry each other they would make a great baby lol. At around 450 I went to maaco down the road [mind you they close at 5:30] I explain how I needed a quote on a mirror, and about the thing under my car, and the first thing the guy did was get on his hands and knees look under the car explain everything to me then go inside get the best price he could on the mirror came out and told me everything! this will be my new go to shop. Will never be back to Suburban auto, sad too because this place was recommended to me from someone. I don't know if I just went on an off day, or if this is the norm, but Ken didn't blow me out of the water like he did for all the other reviews on yelp which is a shame because I was hoping to have a good experience and find my new go to auto shop, but this place fell thru the cracks with customer service right from the beginning. read more

Check engine light was on, and had received my emissions test papers in the mail. I was scared as many places told me I had oil leak in my catalytic converter from my engine and I would fail my emissions test. This is a costly fix because it means piston head rings are not gone bad, and I need a new cat. Being short on money and scared, my neighbor told me about Ken and his shop. Ken was great. Checked the engine light. Had me change the oxygen sensor, and do some stuff to the cat. And he cleared the check engine light. I passed the emissions test with $200, instead of $2000. I stopped by this place this morning to get a flat tire fixed. Everyone was working in the garage when I arrived, and it took a few minutes for somebody to come out. Today I visited to Suburban Auto, I met Ken. He is such a nice person. I went there for repair my car failed in emission test. He tested my CAR and diagnosed correctly. Before going to Ken, I checked with other mechanics for same issue, they were quoting hefty amount for testing and post that repairing. I first met Ken when I randomly took my car into his shop because I could not take one of the wheels out due to worn out threads. He took care of it quick and charged me very little. I could tell he's a genuine honest guy. Seeing all these positive feedback on this man, I am not surprised a bit. This time, my car needed a brake job andn a synthetic oil change. Most shops will try to do more than necessary and ripping you off and I always end up paying a lot more than anticipated. Ken of course did only what was needed at a very reasonable rate. Had an electrical problem on my new car, the problem was that I was already 4k miles out of warrenty. Dealer tried to charge me 1500.00 to fix the problem. We used Ken for our 2003 Toyota Corolla.There were several issues to be resolved, some problems being unrelated. He fixed them all one-by-one with correct diagnosis each time and used methodical problem-solving. The first issue, a failed starter, he ended up fixing for Less than his quote. Wow! We thought that was extraordinary. A few days later the car wouldn't start. Of course we thought it was related to the starter but Ken wanted to eliminate other possible causes first. He offered to come out to us where the car was stranded with his truck to investigate and help us out. He suggested trying to jump it. He was absolutely correct, totally unrelated to the starter and we were able to take care of that problem on our own. Next, we couldn't pass emissions. He methodically went through each fault code until two parts needing repair were handled. Still he had us try to pass the test between repairs, just in case. Nice to know he cares. I have been taking all my auto work to Ken for close to 10 years now. Since I own 2 cars, my wife 1, and each of the 4 kids all have a car that is a lot of repair work. What you can expect is a honest job for a fair price. Ken is a man of his word and will not cheat you. He will tell you if the car is worth fixing or not. He will even look for ways to keep your repair bills as low as possible. It is very hard to find an honest car shop. One that actually cares about the customer and not just how much money they can charge you. Ken is that repair man. Do not expect Ken to call you. They stay busy and days can slip by with your car fixed but no call. However if you call Ken you will find prompt service from a very knowledgable mechanic. There have also been a few times I mention 3 things and find that just 2 got fixed. Again they stay very busy. My advice ask if all listed repairs got fixed before pick up. read more

One of the coldest days of the year, our 2013 Hyundai doesn't start. Call Hyundai 24 hour roadside assistance and was told someone would be out within 1 hour. Bracing myself for a long wait, was pleased to see the Suburban Auto center arrive in 40 minutes! He recharged my battery and I was on my way in 5 minutes. Honest, transparent and quirky. Agree with all the other reviews here. These guys are honest and very good mechanics. I trust them and I keep going back. But...they don't call with an estimate before doing the work and they don't call when the work is done (at least not with me). In fairness, I don't ask them to either. You need to call them (usually to find out that the car was done two days ago). They've been around forever, family owned and feels like a good old fashioned garage.... refreshing and charming. read more
