I took my car in to have my brakes and exhaust system examined. I had been experiencing some stuttering with my breaking. I could hear the exhaust system was no longer performing its intended purpose. They determined that my entire exhaust system needed to be replaced as well as a good bit of work that was needed on the brakes. I've know Mike from when he was at the local gas station at the corner of Waukegan and Lake Cook (yes, Joe Booth's old Standard Station), then for years he was at the station in the center of Deerfield, now for year Mike & Mike have run what I would say is one of the most reputable places to get a car worked on. These guys will tell you what's wrong with your car, tell you what they can fix and tell you what to skip or is not in their areas of experience. I spent over 1000 dollars having them assemble and install a suspension, and it was done incorrectly. Not only did I have to pay to have the job done over again, but 300 dollars worth of parts were ruined in the process that I also had to pay to have re-installed. While this was still ongoing, i presented mike with research and information that indicated how the parts were installed wrong, and he didn't listen to me. He just talked over me like I was an idiot. Well, it turns out Mike was the idiot because after going to a different garage it turned out the parts were installed wrong. On top of that, there were parts of the suspension that were totally disconnected. As well as a radiator leak that left my coolant system empty and bolts missing from motor mount that Mike completely neglected to tell me about Leading up to this point, I brought my car there ALOT. Considering how much I spent there, you think he could have let me know my coolant system was leaking and my motor mount was falling off. They're cheap but you get what you pay for and will end up spending more money fixing their mistakes read more

If I could rate them, six stars, I would. The battery in my Hyundai ELANTRA went bad. I brought it to Mike and Mike. Mike S. called me after about 45 minutes to give me a heads up about the price for the battery, saying he didn't want me to suffer from sticker shock when I walked back in. It was a very thoughtful gesture. He also noted in the phone call that he had to call around to a few places to finally find the right battery. There was no charge for labor, and the price for the battery was consistent with what I found online. The work is always reliable and professional. My parents have been going to Deerfield Garage for years. I took my car to the dealer for an oil change and they told me I needed over $1,000 in other repairs; my parents said nope, call Mike and Mike. I called and said I wanted to know how necessary these repairs actually were. I brought my car in and showed him the list, he said I MAYBE needed an air filter (the cheapest item on the list) but he would check it all out. Mike called a few hours later and said all done, no repairs as the air filter was fine so he put it back. I took my car in to get my wheel bearing replaced. I get a call from Mike that he broke my ABS sensor in the process. He told me he would not charge me for it since he broke it during the "melee," as he put it, and to bring it back so he could put the new ABS sensor in. I proceeded to take the car back in so he could replace the ABS sensor as we discussed. I then get a call from him after the work was completed saying that he decided to charge me for the ABS sensor that he admittedly broke. After being a loyal customer for years, I will never do business with him again. read more

I wish I had found this place before I took my car to Carx for an oil change. Carx told me I needed to replace the air filter as well as Toyota on my previous oil change. I made an appointment at Deerfield Garage to have a new air filter put in and Frank explained that my air filter was fine and I didn't need to replace it until I reached 30,000 miles. This is not a good place to bring your car. There used to be absolutely no customer service. They just do not care at all about their customers. They referred me to North Shore Collision in Highland Park which I would never recommend either. They seem to work together. North Shore Collision gave me my car back with a concave right wheel that was not straight. It was extremely noticeable. Apparently they gave my car to Just Tires for alignment which is not a good place. It should have gone to Deerfield Garage. To many people were driving my car without my permission . Now the door is scratched badly. Where was the quality control? Why would any car be given to anyone this way is beyond me. Deerfield Garage told me it was the knuckle. They have no idea when the part will come in or when it will be fixed since there are customers ahead of me. I told them that I am picking up my car and cannot be without a car again. It has been weeks. They would call me when the part came in. North Shore Collision should have rented me a car. This was their fault and they refused. Deerfield Garage knew I was coming. I had to walk a very long walk in the heat to get there. I am a senior. This was not easy and took longer than expected. At 4:20 I was calling and calling them leaving many messages telling them where I was and not to close. I finally got someone to answer the phone and the call dropped. They never called me back. They could see how many times J called and all the messages. I called back immediately and again nobody answered. I got there at 4:35. They close at 4:30. All the doors were locked and I had no idea where my car was. Who does this to a person? This was so cruel and mean. I would never recommend anyone going here. It is a bad place. They truly do not care about their customers. I was hoping someone would pick up the messages over the weekend but nobody did. With all the messages I left, don't you think someone could have waited 5 minutes for me? Again, they knew I was coming. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. They are not to be trusted. read more

I am in Iowa and my daughter broke down in Deerfield, IL. I contact them. The service manager listened to my predicament with being 3 hours away. We reviewed what was wrong and he offered a couple of quick easy solutions. When those didn't work he gave me the number of a tow service,?who came and got the car to his shop very reasonable price. Oil change is a lot cheaper than anywhere else I've taken my cars to and the guys at Deerfield Garage don't try and sell me on new transmission fluid or air filters everytime I take my vehicles in. These guys are about as straight forward as it gets, they won't do work unless it's absolutely necessary for your vehicle and if they encounter something that is in need of attention they will call you before making any additional repairs. After a recommendation from my neighbor ...... A small garage tucked away in a corner of industrial park, took me a couple of times to figure out how to get in there, but worth the time. The business has no fancy extras like loaner cars, they only have a drop box for early drop off. This reminds me of the old school garages where they tell up front the important repairs first and provide recommendations that will not impend with car performance. Went in with a check engine and only cost $86 but recommend other repairs (4) worth $1,000 which will be done at a later time. read more

I have been using Deerfield Garage for 25 years, Mike and Norm are honest, professional and always complete my vehicles maintenance or repairs on time, there pricing is fair for the work. When a repair is going to be more than expected, they call before proceeding to explain the costs. I never had a problem with the completed work and my cars are always ready when they tell me. The shop is clean and they have a key drop for after hours. These guys are honest and when I have them check out brakes or other maintenance items many times they tell me the work is not yet needed. I could not remove my old, rusted-on license plates (needed to mount new plates that I received from the State). I poked my head into Deerfield Garage and an older gentleman came out and quickly drilled them out and installed my new plates Lickety split. At no charge!! Fantastic, he didn't have to do that. (I gave him whatever few dollars cash that I had in my pocket.) He was a BIG help. I work right nearby, so if I need service or future repairs, I will stop here.
