My wife's family has been going to Lou's for decades, so when I bought a used car that required some special care, I knew just where to take it. Even though I had to drive it up from the city, the trip was definitely worth it: the repair cost about half of what it would have at the dealership. When I called to speak to them about the repair, he mentioned that the car was out for a test drive to make sure everything else was running okay. Really went above and beyond to care for the car. The mechanic's at Lou's garage are absolutely amazing. They are incredibly honest and quote an honest price for the work that they do. Last month my car broke down on Lake Shore Drive. I called AAA to tow my car. I was recommended to a place in South Chicago. I left my Range Rover with the mechanics and asked for them to send me an estimate. They called a week later and said it would be $10,000. I immediately decided they were sharks and decided it would be worth it for me to spend 500.00 to have my car picked up and towed to Lou's in Lake Forest. I don't know anything about cars and was hoping they Lou's would give me a quote $3000.00 and under. I had let Lou's garage know I had been quoted $10,000 so they could of really come back with any estimate. The issue that I needed fixing cost $550.00. I will never use another mechanic. But surprisingly difficult to find. I won't take my vehicles anywhere else. LONG As many of the reviews attest (and my prior experience elsewhere confirms), there's no shortage of shops that propose dishonest 'repairs', with low quality parts, and / or poor service at high prices. No thanks. It's worth repeating: Lou's provides genuinely honest, high quality service at a fair price. I've had the misfortune to need a few unplanned minor to major repairs over the years (our car is 12 years old). Lou's always informs me of what it would take to fix the immediate issue(s), as well as any recommendations based on what they uncovered in the diagnostic process of what might need fixing soon / later / wait until it breaks. Lou's always respects the decision I make about what I want to fix now, soon, later, or never. They'll make their recommendation clear, but apply no pressure if I decide otherwise. They source affordable, high quality OEM parts without the premium branding (and associated price), or equivalent / superior aftermarket parts. Chris and Jeff are very intelligent, expert diagnosticians, respectful of your budget, confident to tackle thorny issues, friendly, honest, great people to deal with. I first brought them a 10+ year old 1991 Corvette, on the hook, that had no crank no start issues since new. The dealers had thrown thousands of dollars of parts and labor at it throughout the warranty to no avail. Jeff who is a master diagnostician consulted with Chris and they had it solved in two tries. My back left brake recently developed a terrible scraping sound. I'd had the brake pads and rotors replaced and it went away before returning shortly within a month. I absolutely dread visiting auto mechanics because I don't know enough about what's going on to understand if they're being honest with me or not. I have a 1966 Buick Electra. It is difficult to find a repair shop that wants to work on a vintage car. Luckily, I have a friend who recommended that I give Lou's Garage a try. I've been going to Lou's garage for the past 18 years and want everyone to know why. Lou's has worked on my used Mercedes in all that time. Lou's is fair in price, quick, knowledgeable, honest in service AND they will tell you when they do not think they can deal with a problem you may have. in the latter case, they have always sent me elsewhere to similar organizations to get the work done. But today tops it all. I went in with a BRAKE and a SUSPENSION warning from my very sophisticated used car computer warning system. Normally I would expect a fairly big bill to fix the problems. Well, think again Dave. Lou's reported to me that both the brake and suspension systems were in great shape - the warning was as a result of two worn out switches in the very complex and sophisticated computer system. Lou's will replace the switches for a total cost of somewhere less than about $100. My 18 year long experience is that Lou's first diagnoses the problem correctly and fixes only what has to be fixed to correct that problem. Thanks Lou's. Chris is the real deal- smart, talented and no BS - just the facts. My husband is a car nut and even he defers to Chris's opinion on anything and everything. Old Toyota Tacoma with 200K plus miles- no problem! After warranty 30,000 mile check-up for an Audi 3 - no problem! He is the standard I hold every other car mechanic to and all others (so far) have fallen short. When our adorable but idiot child ran her car with the engine light on for weeks till the engine blew, he found a buyer for the rest of the car for which our entire family will be forever grateful. On a nice day in January I took my 66' Mustang for a ride and decided to stop in to see if they would do some work on the car. Meet with Jeff and really liked his demeanor. I dropped the car of last week to get estimates on a bunch work and just like he said I got a call back to discuss in a very timely manner. I'm impressed for now. I will update once work I completed. All the hype about Lou's Garage is 100% true! I'm in the process of selling my car and I needed a quick oil change. I recently found out about Lou's Garage from our local community's Facebook page where they were highly recommended. I called them this morning and Chris squeezed me in today. The cost for the oil change was much less than what our previous shop charged us (not the dealership). And since we were selling our car, Chris looked it over to make sure there wasn't anything wrong. I am thrilled to have such a credible and fairly priced auto shop nearby. I live in Oak Park, but my car overheated about 2 miles north of Lou's Garage and I just happened to make it in there--- thankfully! Chris was great. He replaced my water pump and timing belt in a reasonable amount of time for a great price. I would recommend this place and only wish it were closer to Oak Park. My family takes our cars to Lous garage, and this recent event is just one more reason why. My 2007 car died on me as I was traveling north from the city. I got the car towed to Lou's where they found out an issue with the water pump caused another issue with the timing belt. This water pump was only 1.5 years old so it was still covered under the manufacturer warranty. Chris at Lous originally ran to a roadblock getting all damages covered but he pushed through and got all labor and supplies done at no cost to me. Shocked that he was able to do this I said "Chris, allow me to do something for you guys. Buy you all dinner, give some money, etc".
