Steak&cheese eggrolls (delicious!)
NeShawn L.

I visited this restaurant THREE times within a week. My first time was last Saturday, 2nd Wednesday and was back that Friday. Shame, but when it's good I run it back. The first 2 times I got the stew chicken (comes with rice&peas) I chose cabbage and Mac&cheese for my sides. Stew chicken is delicious, has a little bit of a spice kick, but not too crazy. On the latest visit, I ordered the jerk steak&cheese. The steak&cheese was tasty, but I couldn't really taste anything jerk about it. I would definitely order again, but I would ask for a side of whatever jerk sauce they use. I've wanted to try the jerk chicken eggrolls, but they didn't have any on any of the days I visited New to the RDU area, so glad to have found this restaurant. Definitely going on my list for go-to GOODTTT BigBackPlates

Large Oxtail Plate With Candied Yams, Mac & Cheese and Sweet Plantains!

Shout out to wheres the jerk In Durham on South Miami Boulevard for having the best Jamaican Food I've had since leaving NYC! I've been searching for an authentic Jamaican restaurant in NC with the classic mom & pops feel of the ones from The Bronx but have come up short everytime. Finally, I've found one that gives me that nostalgic feel of being back home! If you're looking for great service, authentic, diverse and flavorful Jamaican food boasting in the traditional seasonings and spices of this Caribbean cuisine that will feed your soul, head over asap and give them a try! My personal favorite is the Oxtail Dinner with Mac & Cheese, Candied Yams & Sweet Plantains!!!...Don't forget the extra oxtail gravy

Curry Chicken Lunch Special

Came here one random weekday for lunch. The line I saw as we entered was definitely a good sign. Unfortunately they ran out the Jerk chicken so we settled for the curry and stewed chicken lunch special. Totally forgot to order the patty though. There was a sign explaining why there might be a longer wait and were determined. The flavors of the curry sauce were flavorful and packed a small kick. Chicken pieces were plentiful. The rice and peas were well done and plantains were fried just right and created charred bits around the edges. The stew chicken was good, but flavors were less pronounced. Portions were generous and I love that. Would definitely come back for the Jerk and patties. Coming from Church St. in BK, I'm glad to have found this spot. I saw chopped cheese on the menu too, hmmmmmmm lol

Food was very greasy appears to be cooked in old oil coco bread was old falling apart the beef patty definitely tasted like it came from the freezer at Walmart and was deep fried in old grease super long wait for a small order disgusting

This was my second visit. They didn't disappoint. Customer service was pleasant both times. I ordered the jerk chicken egg rolls, cabbage & Turkey seasoned collard greens. Delicious. I shared it with my daughter. She loved the collards. Plenty of parking in the plaza. The inside is average but we all know those are the best places. I'm definitely returning for more.

Good food and portions. Get here early or get ready to get in line. The customers don't play about this place! They lined up and the line moves but more kept coming. There is also limited seating, almost picnic table style. Now onto the food. It was good. Not the best ever but no complaints. The house drink were phenomenal! Super duper sweet lemonade and other punches (yes I had more than one). So delicious.

This place is booming!!! You know the food is good when you show up an hour before closing and the line is still out the door! I recommend you got at least 30 minutes before you want to eat because the food is freshly made and will require a little patience. Keep in mind this is not a fast food restaurant. The food is well seasoned, the music is excellent, and the location is very convenient for those working in RTP or where Morrisville and Durham meet. If you come to dine within an hour of closing time, please have some alternate options from the menu because some of the more popular dishes like the Oxtail Cheesesteak and Oxtail Rasta Pasta will be all sold out. Anything with Oxtails in it at this eatery will run you $24+, but you will get a nice portion. I'm looking forward to my next trip here for the Jerk Chicken Egg Rolls and a few Jamaican Beef Patties!!! Also, be sure to end your meal on a sweet note with a slice of Red Velvet Cake or New York Cheese Cake! Happy dining, Mon!!!

This restaurant is very popular so arrive before they open and expect there to be a line. Sadly, they didn't open on time when I visited and they have few seats available inside for dine in. Food is delicious, I definitely recommend the rolls.

"Sandwich shop just off University Dr in Durham"…read more Came here for an evening dinner with a friend. We arrived around 5:45pm, and there was ample parking, but I will say the place was HOPPING by the time we left at 6:30pm. The decor is very cute-- old-style, good seating and a bar area as well. You order at the table, and food comes to you. My dining mate got the Cypriot (Halloumi, Fig, Arugula, Tomato, Pesto) with a side of curly fries, and I wasn't very hungry so I got the Beyond Meat Chicken Tenders kids meal with a side salad. I also got a delicious bottled sparkling lemonade. Service was fine-- food comes after order, but you're mostly on your own once food is delivered, as expected. We got a couple of napkins with the food, but there are more self-serve up in the counter. Just don't expect someone to check on you or anything. The food was GREAT. My dining partner loved her sandwich (commented especially on the fig spread) and fries, and I really liked my meal as well. The side salad was surprisingly delicious, especially the addition of pickled red onion. The place was clean-- I went to the restroom, too, and everything was stocked well. Price was very fair. Overall, I'd happily come back. Easy, priced well, delicious. Not a place where you get a lot of "attention", but great for a simple meal.

The only things I didn't love were the parking and the service. Parking was weirdly tight and difficult to navigate. The folks working were efficient but not overly friendly. Maybe they had an off day; it happens. Even so, I'd go back- the food was worth it and again- lots of fantastic choices.

Well that's exactly what happened when we visited Mr. Cheesesteaks in Durham on yesterday. Mr. Cheesesteak is a food truck that now has a brick and mortar as of June 2020! If you're looking for a delicious lunch on today or if you want to take something home to munch on for dinner later tonight, we recommend Mr. Cheesesteak. Their prices are amazing as their cheesesteaks are under $10 and they are GINORMOUS! The sandwiches are packed with meat and cheese and the bread is so fresh. Pictured here is the beef cheesesteak and the chicken Philly cheesesteak. Both sandwiches are jam packed with fresh clean meats, yummy cheese and veggies! And let's not forget their lemon pepper wings! To wash all that down we grabbed one of their sour slushy's which gave us a brain freeze that was well worth it! Ask for Yoshi or Dale when you visit and tell them Roger K sent ya!

A1 Gyro and Philly - Lamb gyro

I was the only customer, and the friendly Middle Eastern guy in the food truck asked what I wanted: 2 gyro wraps. He asked if I wanted to add hot sauce to my gyros with tzatziki sauce, and I said, "Yes". I asked him where the food truck is based, he said that he goes to different locations, and didn't mention a permanent location. I checked the address here on Yelp and it says it's based in Durham, NC, which is not too far from here. Each gyro wrap cost $12, and my total came up $26+ (I assume with tax included). I was about to pull out $25 cash but after he said total, I pulled $30, and he said not to worry about it. I insisted to give the $30 and he gave a $5 change. I guess I got a $1 discount. He finished cooking both gyros in about 12 min., a bit longer than I expected, considering I was the only customer he was serving at that time. The gyro wraps were served inside a small paper bag, and wrapped in aluminum foil. I was quite surprised at the size of the order for 2 gyros. When I opened my gyro wrap, the size looked regular yet a bit smaller that what I had in last October's State Fair, which was fine, considering the State Fair gyro (which came with side of Greek fries) cost me $18+. However, unlike that State Fair gyro, I did not enjoy A1's main specialty. I would have to agree with what the previous reviewer Renee said, "Onions does not make a Gyro make". I love onions but not too much on my Gyro; this one is loaded with so much onions, lettuce, and tomato to the point that it's drowning the flavors of tzatziki sauce and hot sauce (Did he forget to put it?). The amount of lamb gyro meat didn't seem to justify its $12 price; it's not even spiced well, and the mush of ingredients to hide the fact that it's lacking meat just looked as bad as it tasted. That's not even the worst part. When I ate the gyro wrap, the pita bread tasted soggy, and that unpleasant texture and taste were more emphasized on every bite than the lamb gyro. I was not able to finish it; and just threw my leftover away. As I'm writing this review, my girl hasn't eaten her gyro wrap yet, and I haven't told her what I thought so she could judge by herself. We recently enjoyed an $11+ gyro in Kebab Skewer in Cary, and a $12+ chicken + lamb over rice at Tasty Halal Eats food truck in Morrisville, NC (both I reviewed here on Yelp), and I'm sad to say that A1's gyro wraps were nowhere close to the food quality of those foods and the State Fair gyro I mentioned earlier. The food truck's friendly customer service and 99% Sanitation Score are the only positive things I could say about this food truck. A1's gyro is clearly the opposite of what "A1" means. Overall Score: 1.1/5
