This is the perfect spot if you come to visit When Pigs Fly Pizzeria restaurant! Either before or after your meal and even better if you are told there is a wait for a table. That's exactly what happened for my wife and I, we were told it would be a 15 minute wait for our table. We came over and wanted to just browse around to spend that time doing something instead of just sitting. You'll find it to have an overall rustic vibe when you step inside. Typically for grocery shopping my wife and I will go to Hannaford and when we are feeling like grabbing some bread we always go with When Pigs Fly sourdough. The prices may be higher than some of the larger brands but the quality is far superior from When Pigs Fly. Having a piece of their usual sourdough or cinnamon raisin sourdough for breakfast with some butter or sunflower butter is a perfect addition to breakfast! Coming here to the company store was even better with many more options for flavors of sourdough including some seasonal loaves. We actually snagged a current seasonal they had which was Blueberry Raspberry Lemonade Bread. Bought it yesterday and had it for a delicious breakfast this morning! Will make some French toast with it later in the week as well! They have a variety of other items, some their brands and some other brands available for purchase as well! So even if you aren't feeling their bread check it out for the other things they sell. Also if you have not tried their bread and want to try before buying snag a sandwich at the restaurant and try before you buy at least one flavor of bread that is! If you love good quality bread, plan a visit to this bakery/store. The featured loaf is Jingle Bread (raisins? Apples?) Order it ahead of time to be sure you can get it! It's often sold out by lunch time. My personal favorites are the plain sour dough (it makes THE BEST toast with Casco Bay sea salt butter)) and the Cranberry Orange Walnut. The olive oil selection is impressive, as are the many gifts available for purchase (honey, preserves, goat milk soap, etc.). The staff is super friendly and willing to make suggestions. There's a sample station featuring two types of bread (you can taste Jingle Bread) but don't be disappointed if the whole loaves are sold out! Bought my previously, always loved, favorite bread at "When Pigs Fly" bakery store in Kittery, Maine today (Black olive bread). This bread recipe is now made with chopped, small, black, untasty olives mixed in with the batter. YUCK! It was wet looking with speaks of black mini, chopped olives in the batter for the new price of $8.00 a loaf. I will NEVER go back there again! They totally ruined a delicious tasting bread to save money. The price is higher, the bread is smaller and the taste is like an amateur baker's first loaf. On the 2nd bite I chomped down on an olive pit and dam near broke off a crown. Come on guys....a little quality control. So I got a 8 dollar olive roll, because they are so small now they are not really a loaf. I purchase their products quite often. Love the sourdough. Bought one that was baked on 6/1/2020 and sell buy 6/6/2020. On 6/8 i went to use it and it was moldy from head to toe. So I called expecting an apology and possibly a voucher for another loaf. Well, no such luck. I was told second hand that the manager she checked with said that the sell by date is the date it has to be used by. I could freeze it and use it after the sell by date... Coming from the Boston area, it is kind of ironic that my first step in a When Pigs Fly bakery is up north in Kittery, ME. Their brand was super-familiar to me, but I had no idea they started up shop in Maine, nor that they had stretched out into the pizza business. Their land down the street from the Kittery Outlet stores is quite significant, with loads of grass, and a nice bit of parking. We only made our way into the Company Store side which was the bakery of my friend's memory, filled with baskets of fresh bread, and bordered with spreads and olive oil and soap, as well as many cute pig decorations, with and without wings. And in the back - samples of their luscious breads! And cookies. And a bread pudding my friend wasn't crazy about. We had just come from lunch, but as they say, resistance is futile! She wanted to buy a pesto that we had sampled, but she couldn't take it on a plane (too big for carry on, and she wasn't checking in) and she couldn't give it as a hostess gift since the sell by date was approaching far too quickly. We did both however buy a Baby Spinach, Onion & Garlic Ciabatta $6, which they were able to slice for us. Good to know that if I have a hankering for bread from When Pigs Fly, I have the option of 3 local stores, some retail options, and a handful of farmer's markets. read more

We have ordered three times in the last month. Food flavor and quality has only gone down. Once at the new outside bar and twice for take out to bring home. Pizza was wet, sloppy and had no flavor. Today, however, I wanted to try a loaf of chocolate bread but neither the ingredients list, cashiers, or people "in the back" could tell me if it was vegan or not. It's time for you to address people's dietary concerns more seriously. When I suggested to the cashier that signs can indicate (V) for vegan she did not seem to consider my suggestion. You lost a sale today. I've already given up on eating a vegan pizza in your restaurant because you add cheese to the vegan meatballs and real egg to the eggplant - both unnecessary! If you are a bread lover and in the area you must visit! The bread is so delicious. There was a line outside on a Friday morning before they open. I had no clue why until I went inside a saw all the amazing selection of breads. We were just grabbing every loaf of specialty bread we can find. The sample table is a really good place to start. They have generous samples for tasting. On the same side of the store is the bread cutting in case you like to have the loafs sliced. Did I mention we left with 6 loafs of bread? We finished one loaf by the time we got back to NYC. FYI- one cashier (older balding heavy gentlemen) was just not too friendly and his eyes just kept rolling backward. We stopped by here to pick up bread after reading about it on several blogs. While they have a variety of bread selections, and moist were unique, these are HEAVY breads and have hardly any air! I do not think these are worth the super hype that is online. We tried their mango, raisin and pineapple bread and thought it was good, but not great. I agree with the person who said they do run out quickly, so you'll have a lot less variety towards the later part of the day. I let the sample lady talk me into a chocolate Heath cookie that I ate before realizing I should take a picture. So good! I also got a bottle of dipping oil for bread I have yet to try. Ordered a pizza and drink from the restaurant. Paid a ludicrous amount of money for an extraordinarily mediocre pizza. Bought several interestingly flavored loaves of bread in the store, only to get them home and discover they weren't properly baked and had sections that were so gooey inside that we had to discard about 1/3 of each slice for them to be edible, even though the outside was perfectly baked. read more

This place smells like heaven every time I come here. So many different types of bread, savory and sweet, pretzels, bread rolls, pizza dough, desserts. You can sample any bread in the store, just ask. They have a sampling area in the back with specialty oils, flavored butter, jams and honey, also all available for sale, They will also slice your bread for you. I have yet to try the pizzeria but the menu looks great. Outdoor areas to sit and picnic. Great place to visit if you have family or friends in town. I make the trip to Kittery and stop at the outlets on my way home, but in a month they are opening a store in Market Square Newburyport which is amazing and close to where I live. read more

Now I've drove past here idk how many times before and never thought to have stopped in; even after being told about it from my family. Upon a recent visit up to the region (with my family), we stopped in since I never had been; and my family wanted to grab some bread and other miscellaneous items for home that they offer. In the back of the store, they have set up a entire area designated for samples and what I believe to be the kitchen area. Lined up along the bar like table top are each variety of bread available with an accompanying jam/preserve, or sauce of some sort that would pair well with each. After tasting a couple items, I knew before leaving I would have to get a couple of their Bavarian style pretzels! Let me tell you, they're so good! Highly recommend grabbing a couple. They sell out!
