That's how the system works at Yellow Point Lodge. This place is so popular but it's almost impossible to get a room or a cabin and once you have one if you reserve it for the next year and leave a deposit while you're there you are guaranteed your place but if you let it go you may never get it again. It's extremely unique and consequently the same people are there during the same period every week every year. It's like a big family reunion that you want to go to. We love Yellow Point Lodge and intend to continue going as long as we are able. Three meals a day are served in a common dining hall and the food is plentiful and delicious. There are also snacks every morning at 10 and again at four in the afternoon and cookies before bedtime. The setting is magnificent in 180 acres of old growth forest. There are no televisions, No locks on the doors And no young children and no pets except for the owner's dog. Also there is no Internet and probably never will be because the owner wants to preserve the ambience of peace and quiet. Richard Hill, the owner, has a little boat and will take visitors for a ride twice a week. My husband says it's really a vintage life boat but it's a fun thing to do. There's also a great little pub In the English style not far away called The Crow and Gate. Many of the old-timers are just that, very old and some are dropping out each year so if you're interested check it out and see if there's a space for you. It's really a camp for adults with accommodations.

I am so happy to have happened upon this spot, as I searched for hotels near the Nanaimo airport…read more Kiwi Cove Lodge, is a beautiful place. It is situated along Ladysmith Harbor, just beyond the kiwi farm behind the lodge. My room was comfortable and really cute. I also had an amazing view of the kiwi from my balcony. There are multiple entrances and exits, so you don't have to always go to the lobby to go in and out. I enjoyed taking walks behind the lodge, out to the harbor. I saw many birds, some wild bunnies, and felt really relaxed and at peace there. Breakfast was fantastic with friendly service. It was a lot of food! I had 2 eggs, sausage, toast, and a starter which consisted of fruit and yogurt. Doug gave us some a good recommendation for a place to eat since my colleague and I were only there overnight. He also was an excellent host. I would definitely recommend Kiwi Cove Lodge to anyone who likes the bed and breakfast type of atmosphere, or who loves taking walks outdoors. If I am ever in the area again, I'd go back.

Breakfast each morning was included with our room, and there were no problems accommodating our request for gluten-free food (even though we would have been happy to simply pick something up at the grocery instead!) While the exterior of the building looks rather rustic (or dated, if you're feeling salty,) the interior has been redone rather recently. Both aspects appealed to me, as I like the well-worn aesthetic, but also can't complain about a soaking tub! We had our own exit onto a small deck (shared with the room next to us) that led out to the kiwi grove at the rear of the property, edged with berry brambles. There were also some trails that led around the property and down to a rocky beach on the bay. Next to the kiwi grove is a large community garden. I could see this being a lovely site for a wedding, and I hope we can return sometime when the kiwi have leafed our and are fruiting!

The staff is very helpful and they provided a list of great restaurants locally, we choose 1948 Kitchen and Bar and highly recommend it, check my review over there. The rooms here are nice and well cared for and clean. The included breakfast was great and the scrambled eggs were better than expected. The location is walking distance to both a gas station/convenience store as well as a nice liquor store. We brought our dog and there's great grass and trail up on the rail road tracks for a nice walk. Can recommend if you find yourself in Nanaimo!

You will definitely need a car if you are staying here. It seems to be a new development (Oyster Bay Village) with nothing much in the vicinity at the moment. There are two gas stations -- one is across the road with A&W attached, the other has Tim Hortons and a small gift shop corner inside. A liquor store is also in the area. The hotel itself is basic and serves our needs. Hand sanitizer is readily available, especially at high touch point places. Coffee and cucumber flavored iced water are available by the elevators. There is also a fitness room plus a swimming pool with a giant slide and jacuzzi to relax. No changing rooms in the pool area but there are showers and washrooms. The room we had was comfortable. Basic amenities were provided (soap and shampoo/conditioner). I like how each bed has 3 pillows and they are fluffy and supportive. Breakfast was included but due to covid, it was a light breakfast of 4 items (granola bar, muffin, yogurt and fruit). Indicate on the form what your would like and they would be placed outside your door in the morning. Free parking and wifi too. The only drawbacks were noise: 1. the air conditioning kept going on and off as it tried to keep to the temperature indicated on the thermostat. So that kept me awake. 2. Kids running around on the level above us. The thumping was pretty much non stop when they were in the room. And kids do wake up early. We only informed the front desk about that when they asked us on our experience when we checked out. I also indicated that a few days later in the email survey form. To the hotel's credit, the management replied with an explanation. The "auto" setting on the AC caused the on and off issue. It would not happen if I set it to "Lo" or "High". Well, if this could be clearly indicated somewhere in the room, that would be helpful. There is a control panel in the room with the temperature indicated where you need to turn it on or off. Then there is a physical air conditioner with its own control panel, and no temperature indicated. Every hotel is different, so we didn't know how this worked. Regarding the thumping noises caused by children running, we were told to contact the staff in future as they could advise their guests to tone it down. So for future reference, the bottom line is to contact the staff immediately if you encounter any issue (noise or otherwise). The staff at the front desk are fabulous. Friendly and welcoming. I do not mind staying here again if I am traveling in this area next time. I do like that it is away from the town area.

I have already left a review on Google but I felt like it was my duty to really expand on it here…read more This place is absolutely TERRIBLE. We showed up for our reservation with a party of 6 and there was no one at the desk - just a sign that said that there was no receptionist and to call a number. But lo and behold, when you call the number it just rings a cell phone on the front desk! Waited for an hour before a "manager" showed up. His first question was "what time is it?" before attempting the most half-hearted of half-assed attempts to assauge the many angry guests in the lobby. At some point he told all of us that the rooms weren't ready, they won't be ready any time soon, and that it is what it is. Did I mention he reeked of alcohol? After about 10 minutes he seemed he had enough of this whole ordeal and sped off on his golf cart. I counted at least 4-5 other groups, each with probably worse stories than ours. Showed up on time to their reservation, no one responding to them for hours, before an aggressive and confrontational man did. A lady, Erica, finally showed up to try and fix everything that had happened, but you could already see how far south things had gone. The only phone line was being left unmonitored for the entire day (a busy Saturday weekend). Guestrooms that you could literally just walk into, in various states of disrepair, some having been clearly left for multiple days with garbage piling up into the corners. Erica told us her partner, the owners nephew, was coming over to remedy the situation - but that it would still take another 2-3 hours. Erica eventually managed to get us some bedsheets and toiletries. But even after we personally lined all the beds and threw out all the garbage, it was still way too gross to sleep in. So we left. Got back on the ferry, cancelled a weekend trip and just - left. It's crazy. You pay $300+ a night for a room and you get service worse than a dive motel. I'm sorry but avoid avoid avoid. We spoke to multiple people who had come by who all voiced their concern that management had gone extremely south. Owners, if you're reading this - take control of your business before its too late. And Erica, bless your heart - but run far far away from this, for your own sake.

The location is super. Your view is a quiet marina and the mountains and ocean surrounding. See my photo. We got our exercise walking up and down the stairs several times a day to chill on the dock and relax. The hotel rents boats and kayaks but we didn't partake this time. Our room was very spacious and was clean. The king bed was comfy and there was lots of room for luggage. The bathroom was big too and seems fairly recently reno'd. There is a jetted bathtub but unfortunately the night we tried to use it we ran out of hot water before it could fill. The kitchen has a full sized fridge and dishwasher but isn't fully stocked. For example, there were no paper towels, recycling bin, or ice or ice cube tray. We had to buy ice from a bar around the way. The BBQ worked very well! The room was somewhat dated in terms of decor, especially for the price, I would expect a bit more. We used the hot tub daily. The sun deck area has a beautiful view but sadly, only 2 lounge chairs on their last legs. As we treated the trip as "glamping" this was not a huge bother but those expecting a 5 star resort should lower their expectations. Overall, I would return as the setting and vacation was enjoyable for us and we felt very comfortable at the resort. I could have used another day!

I extended my stay through May 10, 2025. Thankfully, I have now found a place and will be moving out on the 10th. I have a service animal and have experienced discrimination multiple times--three times in the hotel restaurant, Ricky's, and twice at the front desk. On both occasions at the front desk, I was asked if I had informed the hotel that I would be bringing a service animal. I explained each time that I had called in advance to confirm this. Tonight, I went to Ricky's, where I've dined several times with my service dog Ruby at a window seat. We've sat there at least four times, and I've also ordered takeout and waited at the bar with Ruby. However, this evening, the male server who has previously served me at least four times refused to seat us at our usual spot. He told me I had to sit in a booth, away from other customers, citing potential allergies and the presence of children. I have never encountered anything like this before, and I have traveled extensively across Canada and the United States with my service animal. I explained to the server that this was discrimination and that he could not segregate us. He replied that he could. I was so upset that I left without having dinner. There is absolutely no excuse for this kind of treatment. I don't know the server's name, but he is a dark-haired male, likely in his mid to late 30s, and works most evenings. During my first week here, a young female server also told me I couldn't enter the restaurant with my service animal unless I had a card. I showed her the British Columbia government website that clearly states a card is not required. I also explained that I just moved from the U.S., where no such card is issued. I recently dined at a Chinese restaurant with no issues. I've also been to several grocery stores and Costco three times, all without incident. I'm paying a substantial amount to stay at this hotel, and I'm extremely disappointed by the lack of understanding and respect regarding service animals. Even after I showed the correct information from the government website, staff continued to disregard the law.
