Our Place Bed and Breakfast - Our Place B&B Nanoose Bay, Vancouver Island

    Our Place Bed and Breakfast

My Bed and Breakfast experience is mind-bogglingly vast. I have slept nearly every night of my life…read moreon a bed - at least 96% of all 3am hours have been spent between the sheets - and I often will consume a first meal of the day before the hour of 12am. As for the more traditional concept of a B&B - to wit, paying to spend the night in the home of a stranger - I have only done so once or twice before. That said, it is hard to imagine a more wonderful or welcoming environment than Our Place, as provided by Lewis and Lorraine. I was in Parksville for the wedding of a friend, and my girlfriend looked into possible locations for the night. She settled on Our Place, and it was a very wise decision... nearly as wise as dating me in the first place. Lewis and Lorraine were both gregarious and effervescent, even offering to drive us to the wedding (!!!) when my lady's car gave up the ghost. While we were able to arrange alternate transportation, that spontaneous and generous offer really helps highlight the Our Place experience. We stayed in the 'Jazz Room', a very clean and comfortable space, and lounged around on the chairs outside in the sun. The inclusion of a copy of the board game 'Clue' in the side-cabinet was an especially nice touch. Privacy was ensured by a locking inner door and separate entrance to the guest suites. The only thing that remains to be praised is the breakfast, praise is greatly deserves. Grand Marnier-infused French toast with orange zest, home-made muffins, fresh yoghurt over summer strawberries and a wide selection of juices - along with the stimulating and wide-ranging morning conversation - made the morning meal a gastronomic and intellectual delight. And all this for the very reasonable price of $110/night. We figured that breakfast alone was worth $30-$40, leaving the price of the room per person down to around $35-$40 - numbers that even MC Hammer can touch.

It's very evident all the thought and care that has went into creating this beautiful atmosphere and resort. We spent nights in both the Sea to Sky Loft, as well as the Sunset Suite. Despite our suite change likely not being the most convenient for the owner Marsha, she never made us feel a bother. Both suites are incredible, it would be really hard to choose which one we preferred. The views from the Sea to Sky are breathtaking, but the space and steam shower of the Sunset are equally enjoyable. Both had propane fire pits outside, and we enjoyed cozying up in the provided robes while looking at the stars. The space was clean, and beds were very cozy. This place is a hidden gem! Marsha was so kind and hospitable, and went above and beyond to make our stay the best as can be. The breakfasts she provided were all SO good! It wasn't your average Bnb, as each morning we got to taste something new that we had never tried before. We will definitely be back! We highly recommend this Bnb. Thanks Marsha!

Had the best massage ever in the beachside cabana, the sound of the ocean just feet away, so relaxing. Marsha was an outstanding host, offered up fantastic breakfasts to start our day, and you can tell her attention to detail, from the quality of the roses to the Champagne (part of our package) and the place was immaculate. Will be going back for sure, highly recommended.

I am proud to review this splendidly wonderful little B&B they call the Willow Guest House…read more Before I begin the review, I think it is imperative that I preface it with a small but relavent note about myself. I am a well traveled person however, for all intent and purposes, I am very much a city guy. And being so, have a particular disposition regarding the finer things in life; the little but important conveniences of nicer living. So I would comfortably say that I have high expectations when it comes to accommodations and anything I plan to pay for or during a vacation. So having traveled a great deal, I have experienced a wide spectrum of quality in services and accommodations throughout the world. I am extremely pleased to say that I have never experienced any accommodations quite like the one at the Willow Guest House. In short, it truly felt like I was coming home. My biggest apprehension when it comes to B&Bs is the imbalance most B&Bs have between the business and the home. Either it is too business like with the warmth and homely coziness of The Adams Family or too much home and not enough business which leaves for rather awkward interactions and no sense of privacy. The Willow Guest House has this balanced magnificently. Never once did I feel like an intruder or awkward. Warren and Dee (the owners) are the kindest and most generous people I have ever met. The moment my girlfriend and I stepped into their home, it felt like we were family. It was quite remarkable actually. Their rare ability to be unconditionally welcoming and genuine is so refreshing that I found myself wishing our trip was longer than two nights! They are a perfect team and care so much about their B&B that every single detail towards excellence is considered. I would come back and stay at their brilliantly wonderful B&B any chance I can get. In fact I wish every hotel in Whistler would take some notes of what true hospitality and comfort is. This is undeniably the BEST BED AND BREAKFAST I have EVER had the pleasure of visiting. You will not be disappointed when you book with Warren and Dee. They are a true gem.

While travelling on business recently, my husband realized that not so much as a garden shed was available in Courtenay because of a large influx of visitors for the BC Seniors Games. Through the Chamber he found the only room in the whole area and that was only because of a last minute cancellation. The hosts were divine, the room was lovely, the price was right and breakfast was amazing. He had such a nice time. They have two upstairs rooms with a full kitchen and living area for guests... you can cook your own food, hang out and watch TV and then go down to the hosts kitchen for a made to order breakfast. Five stars just for the home made granola!

Stone Soup Inn - Dessert. Mystery--what is the grey dome-like item next to the wine glass? We were amazed and impressed when we found out.

Worth every penny. The quality of the food supported a glowing atmosphere conducive to great conversation. Five course set meal of local ingredients that changes daily. My wife and I had wine pairings with the meal. We were there for just over 2 hours and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Though we enjoyed the wine, we would have liked a dark red to be included as part of the wine pairings; I suspect the lack was simply due to BC having good white/light wines whereas a good red would not be local. (I might be mistaken). In any case, the 3 white wines were good, the rose was fine, and the blackberry dessert wine was surprisingly good. Certainly not a reason to miss this treasure. Each course was carefully explained by the server. Brock himself visited several times to inquire about our experience, and could go into great detail on the intricacies of such things as raising hogs and turning them into great meat, on the challenges of roasting a savory dark coffee blend, on gathering wild mushrooms, etc. He clearly enjoys creating great culinery experiences. FOOD - 5 stars. A well-designed mixture of flavors and textures, beautifully presented. 1) "Salad" consisted of small portions of 4 different fresh items - beets with apples; small crisp cucumbers; heirloom tomatoes, and a green slaw. 2) Miso soup. My gosh I didn't think miso soup could taste so good. My wife is from Japan and I lived there many years so have had plenty of good miso soup. This version was outstanding and creative. Included spinach, freshly picked small chantrelle mushrooms, and fava beans. 3) Salmon. Beautifully moist with a crispy skin, served with huckleberries and raspberries, perfectly prepared green beans, cauliflower soft on the inside with a crisp outer layer, and delicious house-made tartar sauce containing wild French Sorrel. 4) Ham. A large slab of ham with small baked potatoes and carrots. Incredible. The layer of fat on one side was a crispy texture with a wonderful light bacony taste. The meat was tender and lucious. Brock raised the hog, and prepared the meat over several days. Wow. 5) Dessert. Ice cream with fresh berries, mint, and more. Very good, clean taste. Also, the coffee was outstanding! Deep taste with a long smooth finish. SERVICE: 5 stars. Both the server and Brock were attentive and explained all the food, answering any questions. AMBIANCE: 5 stars. Our table and chairs were solid and comfortable, and the restaurant interior was bright and welcoming.

Travelled with my family and we stayed the night taking over their modest but very comfortable 2 room B&B. The grounds are situated on a small hobby farm complete with sheep and some very cute lambs, chickens, ducks, turkey and some heritage pigs. Brock was accommodating when we came early so we went on a hike of the area that is very close to the trans Canada trail and some interesting trestle bridges. Coming back for dinner we were in for a real treat. It's a 5 course chef surprise tasting menu with pairings all for only a $100 each. Starting with a sping salad, local mozzarella and roasted peppers, then an amazing cream of asparagus soup that was incredible sweet and had no butter! Followed by a spot prawn and snap pea course. Finally the main was some wild venison and finished with a medley of rhubarb and hazelnut dessert with wild blackberry sorbet and sugar snap cookies. Each was paired with a local wine. The meal was nothing short of incredible and he accommodated dietary needs easily. Great service. Brock is incredibly knowledgeable of the local food stuffs and sources all of his food from local farmers and even picks his own mushrooms. Simple ambience but suited the environment. Highly recommended.
