Frustrating experience here. Took my bike for service. Received a text 2 weeks later bike was ready to pick up and to call to prepay. Nobody answers the phone so have to drive to store and wait 1/2 hour in the service line before a manger took pity and took our credit card. They need all 3 service stations open on a Sunday, and they use service bays to chat very lengthily with customers to sell them upgrades. Very annoying and the business uses Covid as an excuse to offer poor service and no excuse not to answer the phones and allow prepayment like they said you would. Won't be back. Get your act together. I've been standing outside this store for an hr in a line of 10 people. This is a big store with plenty of customers. Get more than 2 mechanics working on bikes regardless of Covid. Better yet think for yourselves and let customers come in 5 at a time instead of 1 or 2. Let people social distance. I bought a bike here in 2006. Since then I have been in for service, parts, and retail. They have everything you'll need, but I have a couple of beefs that I've thought long and hard about. These guys, especially the service guys are TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL. They treat customers like they are beneath them and like they are uneducated about bikes and trails. They one up you and your knowledge about biking in general. The service guys are smug and not helpful. I'm not offering a different bike shop as an alternative, because this review is not an attempt to promote another shop. I would just recommend going elsewhere and letting this local bike shop struggle until they change their attitude towards their customers. read more

They offered a Black Friday sale but ran out of inventory while their website kept selling. Because of this, they ended up refunding a bunch of orders, which meant all those people missed Black Friday sales in other places since the refunds didn't happen until after cyber Monday. This is an amateur hour move that probably cost me $200. read more

I really want to like this shop, as it's near my house and a very nice place. That being said, I think the staff could use some customer service training. For example, when waiting in line at the service counter, and it's been more than 5 minutes of waiting, maybe the mechanic could at least acknowledge me. Something like "hey - I'm just about done working on this bike, I'll be with you in a minute". Or... "my priority is building up this bike, but afterwards, I'll get to you." Or, maybe when I've been standing in line for 10 minutes at the service counter, the two guys at the cash register that are looking at their phones, could come by and get me the part I ordered and get me on my way. You know... like being aware that someone has been waiting a long time to pickup a part that they could have bought on-line, and shipped to their house cheaper and quicker than going through a fancy bike shop. If you're looking to purchase: Wheat Ridge Cyclery was knowledgeable about the market as well as the specific questions that were relevant to myself. I did my own homework, but had some detailed questions they were able to answer. If you need maintenance: The shop is very helpful and in some cases were able to turn around my bike in the same day. They may be more pricey than other shops but you are paying for quality and speed. If they happened to miss something or after riding it was not to your liking they make sure to get your bike back to your expectations. Bike Warranty: My bike's frame cracked and their warranty person (Nick) was extremely helpful throughout the process. It was very easy and they did most of the heavy lifting. read more

I try to tell it straight when appropriate. So, here goes. 1. So, we went to REI (one of our favorite places to visit for bike stuff) to get a dropper post for my Cannondale Scalpel; and possibly have them install it if possible (although I knew the install was a long shot). So I checked the inventory online at the Flagship Denver store and the inventory at the Boulder store. Both places showed inventory for the dropper I needed. Arrived at the Denver store, and not only was I told that they did not have it, but we also did not feel like the staff even wanted us in the store. Was very confused at the service. I asked if they could call the Boulder store and we were told...they didn't have the item either. I asked the head mechanic at REI if it was even possible to install the dropper post if I could source one on my own? All possibilities were negative. I was puzzled! 2. Decided to go to Wheat Ridge Cyclery (since I bought my Trek there) to see if they had something and could help. Not only did they have possibilities, but the first person who greeted me went above and beyond to help us. Like...just outstanding service!!! His name was Matt Devini (sp?). I mean, the service was stellar. Did I already say that??!? Him and others who helped made us want to come back and spend time and money there. It's a place where the people go above and beyond to help you. Whomever hires people there and trains the staff.... WOW!! For future bike stuff, you have our business. Went in to repair a flat tire and the guy behind the counter was rude and treated us as if it was a big inconvenience for him. Initial process was good, but once they had my money for an ordered bike it was a wreck. I wasn't concerned until they called me 3-4 days after I placed the order to confirm the color, and then about 10 days later I called to see if it had come In as I'm obviously excited. The person tells me they got a lot of bikes in and to call the next day. I call the next day and they say they aren't sure and again try to dismiss me. I say I'm contemplating canceling the order and buying elsewhere and they then try to figure it out. They say it should be in that night, so I ask for a phone call when they get it so I can plan my drive from centennial. I call at 4:30 as they haven't responded so I can see, they say it's on the rack to be assembled and they'll call me 5 min after it's assembled. I get a call 10 min to close ( 2 hours and 20 min later) and am told it's ready. I Shoulda just read the initial reviews stating that they really don't care once they have your money read more

I was in need for an emergency overhaul on my fork, I called pretty much every shop but low and behold wheat ridge Cyclery to the rescue! They got me in and we're super knowledgeable and helpful while answering all my questions about my bike and maintenance. I also got a good tune up and new needed drive train which they hooked it up with an affordable price and educated me how to properly get full life out of my bike and components. I am not surprised that this shop has such a low star score compared to its peers in the category and area and region. The service department is awful. Twice they have held on to my bike and after several days, admitted to not have the necessary tools to complete or even start the work. On other occasions, they have ordered the wrong parts and/or overlooked the service order, and not had the work done on time, several days overdue. There are several bike shops in the area, so if you are looking for help on your bike, please shop around and stay away for this ineptitude swamp. read more

I purchased a 10 year old Santa Cruz mountain bike that needed a little TLC. Brought the bike to WRC on a recommendation. Josh helped me diagnose exactly what the bike needed then provided me with an estimate before I left. He treated me as though I had just spent $6K on a brand new bike. On pick-up day (which ended up being 5 days earlier than promised) Devin helped me out with adjusting my front & rear shocks and made sure my saddle was at the proper height. They go ABOVE AND BEYOND for customer service!!! My husband bought his bike at Wheat Ridge Cyclery 19 years ago. We live out of state now and it was stolen off our SUV. We didn't have the serial number when we filled the police report. We wound up finding it at a pawn shop months later, but they wouldn't release it to us without the serial number. We called Wheat Ridge Cyclery on the off chance they still had record of it. Within a day they got us a copy of the original receipt, with the serial number. They had to search through paper copies to find it since everything wasn't automated at that time. Wow!!! read more

2/15/17: Have been in WRC several times for gear. Pricing was slightly higher but the selection was really good. They have a liberal return policy so that is always nice in a LBS. I then saw a deal on a full rebuild, down to $200 from $350 so I scheduled my 2016 Canny hi-mod EVO SRAM22 to be rebuilt. I was 3,000 miles since the last full tune and I was having a little BB creak under stress. Figured, perfect timing. The process was simple but there was some upsell going on with components. I decided to replace the chain (SRAM bushingless), replace the headset bearings, and rebuild the BB (BB30 pressfit). When I received the bike back, the cable routing under the handbar tape was uneven. Minor, but as a climber, it is distracting. The seat was slightly off center. Again, minor but from a premier shop, I would expect more detailed attention. Road that day (climbed 3,000' over 20 miles then 40 miles of hammer flats) and the derailleur was off a little. I figured it was cable stretch but my tweaking couldn't get a smooth chainline. Also noticed the BB creaking under stress. As the chainrings are one piece (no bolts) I assumed the BB was still a problem. Took it back and told the service manager (Doug Bittle) I was unhappy with the results. He said he was extremely sorry and that he hated that I had to come back. He repaired everything at no cost (of course) and gave me $50 credit for my trouble. He called me the next day and asked if I had ridden the bike and if I was happy with the service. THAT was what moved this from 3 to 4 stars: customer service. Bike rides great now. I will keep using WRC for gear and tuning. I will post updated results here and let you know how it goes. Mark this thread to follow if you want to know how things go. read more

Some people have told me they prefer the smaller, boutique shops but I think that WRC has just the right balance. You can find a range of bikes from beginner to elite for both road and mountain. Commuters can also find bikes to fit their needs, even if you want to go to the electric dark side. Service is quite good here as well, especially if you bought the bike on site. They really look out for you. You can also find all the other goodies like helmets, apparel, shoes, etc for your 2 wheel addiction. read more

I recently bought a bike at Wheatridge cyclery. The experience from sales to bike fitting to service was top notch. They did not try to up sell me which is different than other bike shops I have been to. After a few weeks of riding it I noticed a slip in the gears. I took it in and was greeted by Andy at the service desk, he was very professional and diagnosed the problem quickly. I had a ride coming up I really wanted to complete so he fixed it on the spot! I've had work done like 3 times from these guys and I must say they did a great job. They replaced spokes twice on my Trek. They also Trued the back tire. I've also had them "tune" my bike. They have a great selection of bikes at all price ranges. I feel like a kid in a candy shop everytime I go inside. Even if I'm just getting bike lube, I always find myself looking at all they're sweet bikes. Staff is very knowledgeable, the only reason I gave 4 stars is because the "wait time" it takes to get my bike back is somewhat long. I've visited WRC several times over the past year to "tire kick" and fully expected that when I was seriously ready to buy a new bike, it would probably be from them. Recently, on a slow weekday afternoon (I wouldn't even think about going on a weekend) I went in with the intention of getting some serious assistance on picking the right bike. There were not any other customers in the store as far as I could tell and after several minutes of standing around while employees just walked past me, not even making eye contact I finally asked a guy behind the counter if I could get some help. "Oh sure - how can I help you," he replied. I told him that I was interested in a new bike and waited for him to start asking me questions about what type of riding I did, how far and how often, what type of riding surface, budget (!), etc. He didn't seem to interested in asking me any of these questions so I pretty much volunteered the information so that he could actually provide me with some options. After about ten minutes of, well this bike could work for you... he told me about the $200 service where they would basically custom fit me to a bike and make all the necessary changes to the bike to make if the best fit for me - the $200 doesn't include the parts needed. Excuse me, if I'm spending $1,200+ for a bike, should't I get some customization as part of the deal? It was obvious to me that this guy didn't give a hoot about selling me a bike. He never even introduced himself. I finally had to ask for his card just to find out what his name was. After leaving, I sat in my car for shaking my head in disbelief at the crappy experience that I'd just had. I threw his card away. read more

Not impressed. My boss (who is an avid, alp riding, cyclist) recommended this place to me even though I was searching for a commuter bike. From their website I thought it would be a great fit so I made the trek from downtown. I was so wrong. After several attempts to flag a sales person down I finally got someone's attention just long enough for her to say she was busy. The thing that ticked me off was that I could see several staff just hanging around chitchatting. I eventually figured out they would have no suitable commuter bikes for my petite frame, and in my price range. When I asked if they sold used bikes they actually laughed at me. Unless you are going to drop serious cash for your race bike, this place is NOT for the casual rider. read more

Called to get an estimate on work that needs to be done and the service department wants you bring the bike in so they can look at it and give you an estimate then schedule a date so you can bring it back to have them work on it. What kind of business does that and uses COVID as an excuse when all restrictions have been lifted OVER A MONTH AGO!!! The store is really weird set up. Instead of having all the bikes together, they have a little group here, a little group there, another little group in this corner, another little group in the other corner and the sales people are a little skittish, you really have to prod them for info. I did like how when I did get a hold of a salesman, they take the bike you are interested in and set it up by measuring your leg and your down stroke to make sure you are getting the most efficient ride possible. And they even let you take it for a test ride outside in the local neighborhood. prices seem to be average compared to other bike shops but they do have sales from time to time. read more

When someone asks where to buy a bike in the Denver area, this is the only place I tell them. Their prices are pretty good, meaning you can possibly find a better price. BUT, finding a better value will be more difficult. Why? Every time I've gone there, every person that has helped me really knew their stuff, was super willing to help, but didn't give a high pressure sales pitch. I am currently bike shopping, and even though I check out other shops (Bicycle Village on 28th in Boulder this morning...TOTALLY turned me off) I always tend to come back to the folks at Wheatridge Cyclery. They listen to what you want, your concerns, etc. They WON'T try and just push whatever bike off on you just for the sake of a sale, they actually want you to be happy. The two sales people I dealt with on my 2 most recent visits were Jenn and Jonny. Both happily spent a lot of time explaining the benefits and drawbacks to different makes and models, gave me real information to digest, and, most importantly, let me think about what I really wanted/needed. They take a genuine interest in you and how you intend on using the bike, so you are happy. When I finally make up my mind, I will be buying from them. *************************** Ok, bought a bike from someone else. Though I love the service at WRC, I saved about $200 buying at Performance Bike for a similar product. For $50, I'd have gone back to WRC, but not for $200. read more

This store is massive! It's very clean, organized and full of amazing bikes and cycling accessories. The types of bikes they carry are for more serious cyclers who enjoy extreme mountain biking, extensive road cycling and triathlons/racing. I talked with employee Wayne Herrick and he really knows his stuff! He says he's out riding one of his many bikes as much as he possibly can so he can definitely answer any questions you have on your search for the perfect, new bike.
