You pretty much feel like you're in California when you're here. And the back patio at MorninGlory was no exception. It was also late October and one of the first parts of the year that required a light jacket when we visited. Mild temperatures, big hills and hipster food. Was I in the Bay Area? Was I in LA? It pretty much felt like it. As for the food, my wife ordered the pulled pork benedict, and we both felt the bbq sauce had a bit of an odd flavor, but my wife said it grew on her. I just tried a couple of bites, so I didn't allow enough time for it to grow on me and just kind of agreed with her original sentiment. I ordered the breakfast sandwich. Like many breakfast sandwiches with an egg, it resulted in quite a mess. It's nearly impossible to eat sandwich once the yolk explodes and oozes out of every corner. But I enjoyed it overall. The pancakes hit the spot pretty solidly. The wife loved them. I wouldn't quite use the L-word, but I did enjoy their company.

The League Tavern is a gastropub…read more "Gastropub". That word is so 2010's. A decade ago calling yourself a "gastropub" was the coolest thing in the hospitality industry. Now, it is a lost artifact of another decade, along with Swedish House Mafia and Britney Spears. The League calls itself a retro reminder of the eating clubs of the 1920's and 1930's. It is pretty damm good as a gastropub. It would not really want to be an eating club of the Prohibition era. Menus in that era could be pretty awful. Mashed parsnips. Liver and onions. Greens that have been cooked to death. Tough steaks. Low quality lager beer. The Indian Puddings were all right. The fish was great if it was fresh. I wish they would bring back Welsh Rarebit. But the League sticks to a contemporary menu ... And I am glad they do. Their contemporary dishes are just great. I had a faro salad with grilled shrimp on top. The faro salad was everything I would want a grain salad to be. (I have had some awful tabboulehs and quinoa salads in my time.) The shrimp were completely lovely. Prices are high - but that is what comes with being a gastropub. The concept is: Pay more. Eat higher quality. The Lakeway market will certainly support the League in the prices it wants to charge. The selection on the menu - and for that matter the selection at the bar - is fairly restricted. Having a small menu is not a necessary correlate of being a gastropub. Some gastropubs offer you an expansive range of choices. But careful management of the menu choices means that each and every dish can be polished to a high degree of execution finesse. Practice makes perfect. My guess is that the League envisions itself as a neighborhood place - albeit a rich neighborhood place. Their customers are likely to be regulars. The regulars order their favorite dishes over and over. I myself like my bars and grills to be Cheaper, Funkier and With bigger selections on the menu and at the bar itself. So the League is not exactly my style. But what they do, they do well. They are expanding, opening more branches in more locations. They can do this because the League fills a real need in the Lakeway-Bee Cave market. If a Lakeway resident were to invite me to be their guest at the League Tavern, I would be happy to accept that invitation. Especially if they were picking up the check.

I placed macaroni and cheese and brussels sprouts in the cart. Placed the order. I got a text message and an email of my recipe. 11 minutes later I got a text saying that it was ready to pick up. I walked in to the restaurant. It wasn't very busy. I waited not even a minute when a nice women came up to me. She asked if I was picking up an order. I said yes. And said my name, I was trying to get to my text message with my receipt, she already had my bag and was walking back to me. Super quick service. By the time I got home, Urg, traffic on 620, seriously!! The food was warm/hot, so I heated it up for a couple minutes in the toaster oven. The macaroni is actually big shells, and I love that cause the cheese gets inside of the shell and it's cheesy gooey. Cheese was fantastic. Really enjoyed the Mac. Brussels sprouts I feel were just steamed. They didn't have that chard crispy outside. Just plan steamed sprouts. My small meal was delicious. Hoping to actually eat inside and have a cocktail.

I ordered a double meat, double cheese burger with pickles, mayonnaise, and bacon, and it was phenomenal. The bacon was cooked perfectly--crispy, not greasy at all, mild, and full of flavor. The meat was tender, juicy, and incredibly succulent, with an amazing taste. Every ingredient came together perfectly. The milkshake was completely different from anything I've had before. It was whipped and very fluffy--light, smooth, and nothing like the heavy milkshakes you get at fast-food restaurants. It was delicious and paired perfectly with the burger. After being kicked out of All Star Burger simply for voicing a concern (as mentioned in my previous reviews), please read my review, it will blow your mind, this experience was incredibly refreshing. Hatfield Hamburgers is far beyond what All Star would ever dream of being, both in food quality and overall customer experience. If you've never gone before, start with the classic burger (or cheeseburger) paired with fries and a sweetened/unsweetened tea. You can't go wrong. Future iterations can include modifications, like adding grilled onions, or going lighter with a lettuce burger (they actually do a solid job at wrapping the lettuce burger). I was pleasantly surprised by a P Terry's in Lakeway and, while I wasn't planning on P Terry's, I turned in to the location upon seeing the sign. A beautiful backdrop, and great timing as it was their 21st anniversary and a special meal was being promoted. Music added to the ambiance, giving 1950s diner vibes, and the staff were all so friendly! Full of smiles and great energy. Bonus? P Terry's is pretty dang affordable. Typical meals coming costing around $10.

I ordered the Turkey Club and subbed my fries with a house salad. The sandwich was thick and filled with juicy Turkey and tomatoes. The dressing was lite. I really liked it. The salad was fresh and crispy. We ordered chicken wings as our appetizer and they were thick too with lots of meat coming with celery and carrots. Everything was very delicious. The ambiance was wonderful. We sat outside and had a great view of the sunset. There were misting machines to keep us cooler. There was also indoor seating. My husband had the Nighthawk (1/2 lb burger patty with grilled onions, on a plate, not on a bun). Our friend's husband had the fish and chips. I thought the quality of the grilled salmon was very good, the veggies were fresh and the rice went well. My husband said the Nighthawk was delicious, good quality wagyu beef. Our friend was also very happy with his fish and chips. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend for date night or just an upscale night out.

Let me start with saying the carrot cake was absolutely to die for it wasn't overwhelmed with cinnamon or overwhelmed with too much frosting it was absolutely perfect for the occasion. Wanted to chill out today so the ambiance here outdoors was absolutely perfect in 70s degrees I love it. Also the baklava was delicious but I wouldn't say one of my favorites I would say that the baklava didn't have enough of the honey flavor it was more or less pretty plain and I showed you in the picture pretty much what I bit into. But overall the taste was amazing also so I couldn't have been happier. Now comes the Chai Latte! Bravo it was nice and hot just like I like it the cha latte was favorable regarding the spice that I love granted it wasn't overwhelmed with the spices but perfect then again that's why this place is my very favorite. I had been meaning to try this new butcher shop since it opened but only finally made my way over…read morethere to buy steaks for my Valentine's Day dinner. OMG, let me just say they turned out insanely delicious. I always buy my beef, chicken, pork, etc., at HEB and I usually get the "Prime 1" category of steaks and burgers. I always thought my steaks and burgers were good but now that I have had real, fresh cut butcher shop steaks I will never go back to grocery store meat again. The difference in quality was very apparent. The steaks I chose were thick filet mignons (tenderloin), about 2 inches thick. Every bite was perfect, not a single bit of fat, chewiness or toughness. It was of the same quality you'd get at a fine dining steakhouse downtown. I also bought a pound of ground beef, a pack of wagyu hot dogs and some beef jerky but have not tried them yet. They had some gigantic cooked meatballs on display that I have my eye on for another night. The various types of marinated chicken breasts looked really good too. In addition to the meats they have a wall of interesting dry goods like sauces, chips, etc., and a cold section of prepared side dishes as well. Pricewise, if you usually buy the HEB basic beef and chicken like their Hill Country Fare line or the tubes of ground beef, then the meat at the butcher shop will be significantly more expensive. On the other hand, if you usually buy the more pricey Prime 1 or Organic Grass Fed lines of beef and the Mary's Free Range Heirloom chicken or Central Market Organic Air-Chilled Chicken, then the prices here are quite comparable, in some cases even less. They run complete meal specials and deals on their website and they offer a loyalty card program you can join for free to get more discounts.
