Stopped by Torchy's and got the Democrat taco with barbacoa, avocado, cotija, and cilantro--absolutely loaded and delicious. Had to get the green chile queso too, which is creamy, addictive perfection with fresh chips. The tacos are pricey at around $5-6 each, but the portions are huge and the flavor combinations are creative. Casual counter-service setup with paper baskets makes it easy and laid-back. Torchy's started as an Austin food trailer and still delivers on that "damn good" promise. Great spot when you're craving bold tacos and legendary queso. read more

I had not visited this Torchy's Taco location in quite a long time. Overall, meh. Very underwhelming. 2.5 stars if I could. I heard they had sold off a huge majority stake to another company, and it really shows. Definitely not an ATX thing anymore. Quality control for tacos in Austin out the window. :( Staff was very unanimated. Not rude, cordial, but certainly not friendly. I ordered an off menu item -simple refried beans and cheese in a flour tortilla- and was told it would be four dollars. When I looked at my receipt they charged me 7 bucks; just a few cents less than the Steak Fajita taco I ordered. Rip off IMHO. Both tacos were thrown together so sloppy, with torn tortillas and everything. Sounds very nitpicky I know, but how hard can it be to at least get the ingredients inside a tortilla when you order a taco? Very messy. And the fajita meat had too much gristle on it for my liking (tough). On a positive note, the self service station was very well stocked and clean. Half of the large restaurant consists of four top tables that reads family friendly. The entire other half and patio is totally a local "bar" hangout. My first visit to this Torchy's Tacos location and I loved it. It was nice designed with an outdoor bar with a view of the outdoor patio and Hill Country. The menu was the same and decided to sit at the bar even though even though it was breakfast time and much warmer than the inside sitting area. The staff were very friendly and bartender fun talking to. I ordered a Migas taco. It looked messy when I got it but when wrapped tasted very good where all the ingredients go well together. Happy to be at torchy enjoying a great Margarita yummy ordered chips with guacamole, Bartender was attentive and is a slow evening . Guacamole is a little bit spicy but not too much even though I don't like spice foods I enjoyed this walking molecule because it has sis to it it's a little bit salty but I like that as well the Margarita was amazing also the barbecue republican taco I ordered it's amazing. Granted I really enjoyed the barbecue brisket is so good on the republican I would highly recommend this with the guacamole and of course the margaritas are amazing there is plenty of parking no problem here and highly recommend this location which is at area close to HEV across the street. Stopped by last Saturday while staying in Lakeway for the weekend, and got some breakfast tacos. I ordered a taco with egg, bacon, and crispy potato. It was tasty, but a bit greasy. I thought about ordering more than one, but I am glad I did not, since one was more than enough. They are very filling. It was freezing inside, so we decided to sit outside and it was pleasant. Finding a place to eat while traveling late can sometimes be challenging. As I was driving around a cluster of restaurants, I spotted Torchy's. Coming from a place where amazing tacos are a dime a dozen, I decided to enter with an open mind. Upon entering, I was greeted with a smile, and the super helpful staff took extra time to answer my questions, making the stop incredibly worthwhile. Plus, the food was truly amazing. When I asked for extra salsa, they generously provided one of each kind to try with my meal, which was awesome. Food here is always spot on and the portions are the right size for me. One to two small tacos is all I need. I love the breakfast bacon egg and cheese, the hogfather, Baja shrimp or Mr Orange. It's been a few years since I've been to TT. Used to go weekly. Not a whole lot has changed. This place has a lot of seating inside, a whole separate bar area and outside seating too. The staff were very friendly here. The lady bringing food out and cleaning up was super nice. The young girl who took my order was friendly and helpful with all the modifications I wanted and everything came out with those mods correctly. Food was good. 2 normally is good enough for me. I got my used to be normal: democrat, good as usual with good flavors, the crossroads was good flavor but meat was a smidge hard/dry and the fried avacado, not good this time. So apparently, I haven't learned all the TT rules and regs even after eating at locations all over central Texas at least three times a week for the past several years. I'm at the TT in Lakeway and it is mostly empty at 3pm on a Monday. Two tables occupied in the dining room and three peeps at the outside bar. Ordered my regular Mr, Orange and small chips/queso. After waiting 10 min for the queso, I walked up to the manager sitting with two other employees and asked him to check on my queso since it's not good when it comes out with the taco. He obliged me and a few minutes later it showed up just before the taco. Ugg. Well, since I sat at the bar, apparently that wasn't allowed. The bartender informed me that I can't do that unless I order from the bar. "Just so you know in the future." Who cares and why bother correcting me. You're not busy." is what I wanted to say but I was nice instead. I won't be coming back here but will drive a little further to another store since this store doesn't respect my patronage. Been coming here for years. They installed self-serve kiosks last year, leaving one register, which they've abandoned. Tonight I saw several customers wait at the register for more than ten minutes while the only visible employee sat a table playing on his phone. The person who brought our food was the only one who "served us" and he was clearly irritated when we asked for forks, instead of the spoons he brought us to eat our salads. Second chance after a bad experience. Won't be back. The chips are completely different than other locations. They are not fresh and resemble a brand that can be bought at a grocery store. Pretty tasty breakfast tacos! We stopped here for a little nourishment before catching a flight home, and walked away happy and full. The service at the counter was great, very friendly and pleasant. Our group of 4 ordered 2 Wranglers, 2 bacon egg and cheese tacos, a Ranch Hand, and a couple more that I can't remember, as well as an order of fried avocados. The total was $42, which I thought was totally fair. We sat outside since it was a nice morning, and our order came relatively promptly. There was some confusion when our order arrived- they didn't bring everything, but it was quickly rectified so no worries. The tacos were full of fillings but didn't break apart when you picked them up, and the fried avocados were amazing. A texas staple: torchy's tacos! The food came out quick and the servers were so friendly and helpful. When you walk into the restaurant, you go up to the counter, order, and then the food comes to your table. The food: green chile queso: 5/5, great queso sauce with a kick! The little bit of heat from the diablo sauce is amazing, and the freshness of the dollop of guacamole was perfect. One of the best quesos I've ever had! baja shrimp taco: 4/5, the shrimp was not fully breaded but the flavor in the breading was tasty. The pickled onions were overpowering, so next time I will ask without this. The chipotle sauce was perfect with the shrimp, and the cabbage slaw cooked down the heat of the jalapeños and chipotle sauce. If this was the first time it happened, it would be one thing, but this happens 75% of the time because no one bothers to read the order. This is a food allergy situation that is not confined to just this location and I am absolutely done with Torchys. How hard is it to read the order? Also of note, I didn't want to Yelp it, but Torchys has made it darn near impossible to contact corporate so this is what I have to do to bring awareness to the situation. This issue is not just at this location, it is a problem I have had citywide. Torchys used to be really good about food allergies and now I feel that the staff simply does not care. They have good tacos, good breakfast tacos, and good drinks. They rotate through monthly tacos. I had a monthly taco with coconut battered and fried shrimp today--terrific! I also had the trailer park (trashy). Fried chicken and chiles and queso on a taco. What's not to like? The tacos are always great and the breakfast tacos are a great and cheap choice. Came in on my lunch break and sat at the bar to eat. Tacos came out so fast and Micaela and Chloe were so sweet and took great care of me!!

It's official. The Lakeway location now blows goats. I am sure they will give some excuse about the pandemic or the job shortage or some lame excuse. The real reason is they sold out to some corporation based in Los Angeles CA and they could care less about the quality of the food. First off they killed everything that made them unique here. The secret menu...most of their GOOD menu. They switched out all their drinks too. Then they hired a bunch of folks who could care less about the job they do or the product that represents them. My last trip I ordered 2 tacos. A trailer park, and a 'cougar'.. they served them fresh out of the refrigerator. The fried chicken was ice cold, the tortilla was has hard and cold. I took them back up to the counter and explained politely that it appeared they forgot to cook my order the meats were cold. They took them back and 5 minutes later brought the trailer park with microwaved meat, and the toppings all in dixie cups. The Cougar was still ice cold they hadn't touched it. I choked down the microwaved diy trailerpark, then took the untouched cougar back and simply asked for a refund. The 'manager' informed me it could take several days. Blah. This is not Torchy's...
