We're new to the area & love trying new places. Went on a Wednesday afternoon around 4pm. Not many people there A few drinkers at the bar. Ordered a Mexican Martini for me, Frozen for him. Ordered the Queso Especial. Good melted cheese with taco meat, pico and Avocado. Great flavor. Really good WARM chips & salsa for the table. I had the Mixed plate with one beef enchilada, one beef taco and one beef tostada. Everything was seasoned well and delicious. Hubby had the same, except two enchiladas. What I was most impressed with was EVERYTHING was seasoned well, including cilantro in the queso. Can't wait to go back and try the chicken mole and pork & chicken tamales. read more

Went back to the new place and the food and staff were excellent as always. My issue is for 3 house margaritas, 3 small scoops of quacamole, a combo plate and fish tacos with 20% tip was close to $85! That much money for TexMex is unacceptable. Unfortunately when the bill came my wife just gave the credit card so we did not see the idemized bill. My fault! I do think maybe they charged me for an extra rita and be aware they put the tip on top of the 8.25% sales tax. That is a slick way of adding more money to the bill. Came by at 8:20 for dinner and was told they were closed, even though the hours say 9:00. Pretty disappointing.

Inconsistent. It appears they have a head cook and a second or third string cook. The food is usually fresh and good when the head cook is cooking and uneatable with the 2nd and 3rd string cooks. They appear to keep the rice and beans and hold them over all week, Not eatable. The cheese enchiladas often come with huge chunks of cheese inside that are not melted. The guac is sometimes okay and other times AWFUL but always expensive. The chicken tortillas soup sometimes taste chemically. I hate their hot sauce which is way too hot. We eat here frequently because sometimes it is good. Wish we could count on them to be good all the time and not waste our money. Where have all the good Tex-Mex places gone? read more

Solid option for traditional Mexican food. And to my surprise, they have Mole. The interior is underwhelming and unassuming. They're in need of interior renovations especially the bar. The bar honestly needs help and they are in serious need of an upgrade on tequila and margaritas options. To my disappointment, they had only Cuervo 1800, Hornitos, and Herradura tequilas only. Not sure if they had a drink menu but the house margaritas were just okay. Management, please upgrade your bar. The interior is spacious and plenty of outdoor seating I suppose for large parties. With this out of the way, I ordered as much as one could to get the full spectrum of classic Mexican cuisine in Spicewood. The queso special was outstanding. The guac perfect brilliant green and limey. Chips freshly made and hot. Salsa yummy. Ordered the Mole chicken, 3 beef hard shell tacos and the chicken sour cream tacos. For a mole foodie, this mole sauce was great. I kept asking if they make it homemade with no answer. It was on the sweet side of the savory. I really did enjoy although recommend the chicken breast not flatten. The sides were good and they make great guac. The sour cream enchiladas were outstanding. The rotisserie chicken was white and well seasoned. The tacos were enormous with classic "ground" beef. Again, nothing over the top but all 3 dishes were great. While the Spanish studded rice was very well executed they need to rethink the refried beans. They tasted canned or was just too processed. The service was quick and attentive. Ticket times a record breaking 7min which the house on the rocks house marg delivered in less than 3min. I do not recommend simply because mix is off. I also recommend the margs be served in marg glasses and not water glasses. The checkout process was sort of strange with signs saying go to a POS terminal to pay. The waiter entirely disappeared throughout the latter time I was there. Overall, I recommend if you're in a pinch. Since my reviews are comprehensive on food, service, ambience, drinks, and cleanliness, I dinged La Cabana in just minor areas: margs, beans, and the fact the waiter seemingly disappeared during my visit. read more

Wow just wow. The staff has become just plain sour and rude. The know me and my partner for 6 years. Came tonight one of the older guys and all of them pretty much so short and rude. I get it they are losing their jobs before closing and maybe is for the best they are closing. During covid we used to tip them 40% to support the business and them. Here and there few of the older waiters were grumpy and hist ignored it. Tonight I was like really. You come pay $100.00 for dinner you get shitty service a ton of attitude and hustle plain rudeness. I have gone to this local restaurant many times, but I had to give a review today because I just tried the fried avocado for the first time. We brought out of state relatives here for true TexMex and they were blown away by the food quality. With one minor exception that the chicken, sour cream enchiladas have a little too much dry meat inside, but, fried avocado with fajita steak! Another definite winner is the Charro beans and if you leave without a praline, you're out of your mind. It's as big as your hand. read more

This place is not fancy but they have the best darned Al Pastor tacos I've ever eaten, in a town with more taco options than 100-degree days. I'm sure their other food is good too but these are so fab I never order anything else. Their skinny margaritas & Mexican martinis are legit, as well. Our family faves are: chicken enchiladas with either Verde' or Molé sauce, chicken burro with queso, tacos el pastor, fried avacado, or the stuffed poblano. This is one of the restaurants we frequent the most due to its location, good food, and reasonable prices. Everyone is always so friendly there too. We are probably getting takeout at least every two weeks. Living in an area where the property taxes are as much as a mortgage and the home prices are steep, makes us reluctant to go out to eat very often, but this is one of our exceptions. We were pretty bummed to hear that this eating establishment that is so popular with those in our neighborhood was sold to the school district of all places to tear down. We were holding out hope that the owners would relocate close to us, especially since it is such a nice family that runs the place, and since the community really came together to get this place up and running again after the kitchen fire. Hopefully we will hear good news soon that the owners have found a close by location or that they will sell to someone that will relocate the business. read more

Been here a million times since it was one of the only places around for years so thought I owed a post. It's not a fancy place, it's very casual, and it can get very loud inside but the food is always yummy. Big portions, big menu, good food, and it comes out fast. Great nachos!!!! Firm, fresh and crisp chips topped with refried beans spread out nicely onto almost each chip. Topped with real chicken pieces not the fakey stuff, melted cheeses and all the fixings. I am giving a 5 because of the nachos and friendly staff. We love this place - good food, very reasonable prices, and great customer service. We were pretty devastated to hear that this restaurant was sold to the school district - especially after they rose from the ashes after a kitchen fire years back. However, one thing we are noticing of late is that the restaurant closes early - you really can't rely on the posted hours. We have gone for takeout at 8:30 PM on the weekend - 30 minutes before closing - yet been told that the kitchen was closed. And we have watched while others have been turned away at a similar time. If the restaurant wants to close early now - it should be posted as such so people don't drive down there for nothing. Two stars are for the service, as the waiter was attentive and food timely. Maybe the food here was authentic at some point but it's watered down. My son ordered a cheese enchilada and they melted "nacho cheese" on top of it. I ordered enchiladas and the meat was not flavored, mole sauce too sweet and tortillas were undercooked.
