Mixed plate. An enchiladas, crispy taco and tostada.
    Katie R.

We're new to the area & love trying new places. Went on a Wednesday afternoon around 4pm. Not many people there A few drinkers at the bar. Ordered a Mexican Martini for me, Frozen for him. Ordered the Queso Especial. Good melted cheese with taco meat, pico and Avocado. Great flavor. Really good WARM chips & salsa for the table. I had the Mixed plate with one beef enchilada, one beef taco and one beef tostada. Everything was seasoned well and delicious. Hubby had the same, except two enchiladas. What I was most impressed with was EVERYTHING was seasoned well, including cilantro in the queso. Can't wait to go back and try the chicken mole and pork & chicken tamales.

"one pound" of chicken and beef fajitas with sides.
    Rica R.

Tried this spot for the first time with a to-go order. I got a pound each of chicken and beef fajitas, though the portions felt a bit small for a pound. That said, the flavor was on point! The service was decent, but it could use some improvement during busier times. The ambiance seemed nice enough for a sit-down visit next time!

La Cabana is a culinary gem. The food is exquisite, with each dish a masterpiece of flavor and presentation. The service is impeccable, and the atmosphere is inviting. If you're seeking a truly memorable dining experience, look no further.

    Chicken Mole

Solid option for traditional Mexican food. And to my surprise, they have Mole. The interior is underwhelming and unassuming. They're in need of interior renovations especially the bar. The bar honestly needs help and they are in serious need of an upgrade on tequila and margaritas options. To my disappointment, they had only Cuervo 1800, Hornitos, and Herradura tequilas only. Not sure if they had a drink menu but the house margaritas were just okay. Management, please upgrade your bar. The interior is spacious and plenty of outdoor seating I suppose for large parties. With this out of the way, I ordered as much as one could to get the full spectrum of classic Mexican cuisine in Spicewood. The queso special was outstanding. The guac perfect brilliant green and limey. Chips freshly made and hot. Salsa yummy. Ordered the Mole chicken, 3 beef hard shell tacos and the chicken sour cream tacos. For a mole foodie, this mole sauce was great. I kept asking if they make it homemade with no answer. It was on the sweet side of the savory. I really did enjoy although recommend the chicken breast not flatten. The sides were good and they make great guac. The sour cream enchiladas were outstanding. The rotisserie chicken was white and well seasoned. The tacos were enormous with classic "ground" beef. Again, nothing over the top but all 3 dishes were great. While the Spanish studded rice was very well executed they need to rethink the refried beans. They tasted canned or was just too processed. The service was quick and attentive. Ticket times a record breaking 7min which the house on the rocks house marg delivered in less than 3min. I do not recommend simply because mix is off. I also recommend the margs be served in marg glasses and not water glasses. The checkout process was sort of strange with signs saying go to a POS terminal to pay. The waiter entirely disappeared throughout the latter time I was there. Overall, I recommend if you're in a pinch. Since my reviews are comprehensive on food, service, ambience, drinks, and cleanliness, I dinged La Cabana in just minor areas: margs, beans, and the fact the waiter seemingly disappeared during my visit.

Good friendly service. Not a fancy place at all so dress may be casual. The food was excellent and there was plenty of it!

La Cabana Grill Restaurant in Spicewood, TX, it's truly amazing. The restaurant offers excellent food and great beverages with superb service. It's very hospitable, providing an enjoyable family atmosphere and is filled with wonderful people. The welcoming vibe here, combined with the delicious offerings from La Cabana Grill, makes our celebration even more special.

    Al Pastor Tacos
    Erica M.

This place is not fancy but they have the best darned Al Pastor tacos I've ever eaten, in a town with more taco options than 100-degree days. I'm sure their other food is good too but these are so fab I never order anything else. Their skinny margaritas & Mexican martinis are legit, as well. Their wait staff is better at Espanol than English but they are lovely. Ask for Victor - he's the best!

When they took over their current location (used to be a divish bar) in 2022, they really transformed the place into something special. Arguably one of the best patios in the Lake Travis area. Lots of choices of types of seating from standard tables and chairs to comfy sofas. Complete with a fire pit, full bar with TVs, lots of fans, QR code orfering and checkout an option...super chill, spacious, and inviting environment (especially since it's located directly off of busy 620). The inside is really large, including an oversized bar area seating. Offers a very nice dining option (or just for drinks), but if the weather's nice you'll "catch me outside." Don Mario has always offered traditional Mexican cuisine. If you're looking for boring Tex-Mex, you might be a little bit disappointed (albeit they do offer quesadillas, fajitas, flautas+ but kicked up a notch). Some of my personal favorites are the Mexican street tacos (seven different proteins to choose from), ceviche, albondigas, cóctel de camarones, and more; great chips and salsa. Another favorite is off menu, but it's just a basic refried bean and cheese burrito. Magically flavorful and they are not shy with the cheese, which is a very good thing in my book. A great inexpensive and indulgent option to get in protein for the day. Always receive very friendly and prompt service from both wait staff and kitchen. They're always amenable to any special requests, including creating off menu items as previously mentioned. If you're in the mood, they do serve some pretty tasty house frozen FRESH fruit margaritas (strawberry, pineapple, cucumber, or mango). They have a limited happy hour available Monday through Friday from 3-7pm. Save a buck is a buck is a buck. ;) Overall, sí por favor. :D ¡Salud!

Oh well, it's only THE SIGNATURE DRINK OF EVERY MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN TEXAS! But really, we went out for dinner, not drinks. So, we got the shrimp enchiladas. Oh wait , what kind of enchiladas would you like? Let me order directly from the menu. "Enchiladas Camerones" Oh, you mean the shrimp enchiladas? Well, they were very good. So were the black beans and rice. I would order them again. You think we're done? Uh-uh.. Then came the mariachis!! The place is noisy as it is with a hard floor and large open space. Add 6 guys blasting brass, strings and Spanish at the top of their lungs and you'll get the jist. 165 dB would have been welcome. My water glass was spurting out the top. My hearing aids were feeding back. It almost felt like my last Rolling Stones concert in row 13. But, in all seriousity, everyone around me didn't seem to mind the noise, the music and the inability to communicate with anyone farther than 6" from you without having to yell. Having only been to a couple of Mexican restaurants in this area, I don't know if this is the standard or the exception. Stay tuned.

I say this so you can better understand my rating. This happens to be a convenience store steam table, hence my score on the atmosphere. It was a Sunday morning and I didn't feel like cooking breakfast, so I started thinking about where I wanted to go pick something up. On a Sunday morning, even the food truck selections are more limited than normal, and I didn't want to have to get dressed to go to a brick and mortar restaurant. I had heard good things about the food at this particular place, so I decided to give it a try since it was one of the few places open. As soon as I walked up to the order counter I was excited to see that they had Menudo on the menu (Saturday and Sunday, only). Of course, I had to try a bowl of that , and it was delicious (yes, I know.....it is an acquired taste)! I also tried one of their breakfast burritos and was not disappointed. It was a delicious, large, soft flower tortilla, overstuffed with goodies (In my case, sausage, egg, cheese, potatoes, and refried beans). I would definitely order it again, once I make it through some of the other delicious sounding choices they had on their menu If you are ever out this way, and are looking for a fast, in and out, sort of place to grab breakfast or lunch on the run, I would definitely give this place a try.

Finally, today was the day and I sure wish I would have tried this place sooner. Since moving to Texas from Southern Cal, I haven't found many places that have what I would call authentic tacos. I keep trying hoping to find that place and I just might have. They are located in a small food truck court off 71. Easy parking and they have plenty of outdoor seating if you want to enjoy your tacos fresh. I only ordered "street tacos" with Adobada; I didn't have to wait long and I did take them to-go since I don't live very far. When I got home, they were still fresh and warm. They were prepared in fresh corn tortillas (they do also offer flour) and there is quite a bit of meat. They came with lime wedges and some red & green sauce. Given my experience with other taco locations, I wasn't expecting much. But my first bite... I was surprised at how delicious they are. Most places I have been to, the meat tastes as though it has been warming in a metal bin for awhile and lacks freshness. But this meat was very fresh and delicious. Squeeze a little lime and add some of the green sauce and these tacos are epic! I ordered three and thought for sure I would end up throwing one or two of them out. But after eating two of them, I saved the third for my daughter but was tempted to eat it too. If the tacos are this good... I am sure the rest of the food must be great. I have had tacos from a few places in downtown Austin that are good, but it's a far drive to get them regularly. It's nice to know the best tacos I have tried since coming to Texas is quite close to me. And between the tacos I have had in Austin and Ortega's, I would choose Ortega's any day. Although they provided red sauce, if you like really spicy... use the green sauce. Like finding good tacos, it has been difficult to find good spicy taco sauce but their green sauce is going to make you sweat a little. Although I waited years to try, I'm glad I finally tried Ortega's and I will be back soon.
