Al Pastor and Carne Asada tacos
    James K.

My first time at any One Taco location and I'm sure we will be back. People in Austin talk about the great tacos but as someone who moved here from Southern California, it seems hard to find a good taco. But One Taco really seems to capture the authenticity of a street taco. I tried their carne asada and Al Pastor and we tried both the street tacos size and their regular "Los Tacos" size. It seems the ingredients are the same. I'm not sure what meat they use for the carne asada but it's very different from carne asada I've come to expect from any traditional taco shop in SoCal. It's not bad, but the meat they use just has a different flavor that doesn't take like good steak. Likewise, the Al Pastor is good... but just different. They do have the meet cooking on a turning spit. They seem to cut bigger, thicker slices of the al pastor than what I am used to. They sprinkle chopped onion and cilantro and overall, the taste was good. They have red and green salsa to use on the tacos and I really liked their green salsa. I'm not sure if the tortillas are hand made on site but they don't taste like it. Overall, the food is good but it could be better. I'm sure we will come back but we aren't going to go out of our way to eat here.

Solid! We just did street tacos - Birria, al pastor, pollo. The pollo was simple (cilantro, onions and I liked it that way), Birria meat was a bit dry but consommé was yum so it ended up well and Al pastor was delicious and the best one! Corn tortillas for all the tacos were fresh and lightly toasted; chips & guac were good (our guac needed a little salt). Restaurant is tiny & darling, very clean! I loved that there wasn't a bunch of "stuff" on the tacos. Will definitely be back!

Campechana with pineapple and Barbacoa tacos

I'm picky as hell with tacos. I'm from SoCal and have eaten everywhere from TJ and SD, up to LA growing up on this cuisine. Tacos are really good here and there's nothing better in Lakeway in my opinion. I eat here about 3-4 times a week. Always the same thing, 3 Barbacoa on flour and campechana tacos. Breakfast tacos are also very very good. El Jefe taco with fried egg and carne asada is phenomenal. Every restaurant has hit or miss moments, especially if you're taking your food to-go... the experience will be different than enjoying it freshly made and eating there. People who complain about that don't understand food service. And most people only leave reviews when they want to complain, not when their experience was good. As good as your ego may feel to share your irrational negative experiences, you're not food critics. Support your local businesses or they will all be gone. And who knows, if you didn't like the item you tried, try something else next time ‍. Fyi, I've eaten their tacos COLD the next day and it's still good. Salsas are killer too I mix all three up together! Service is usually always good, and they keep the place pretty clean!

Went to go get 1 taco and queso simple order and they forgot half my order drove home realized it drove all the way back and they wouldn't remake my order. Kid was fried who took my order probably why they messed it up. Good way to waste money though!

Very pleased OneTaco is now available in Bee Cave! I have been a big fan of their other locations. The food is excellent. My favorite is the Carne Asada and Breakfast Tacos. All the food is prepared fresh.

Rice was super salty and the food took over 25 minutes on a slow night. Would not recommend since there are other taco options in the area.

It's super clean and really comfortable. Like, the kind of place where you sit down and immediately think, "Yeah... I could stay here for a while." The ambiance is laid-back, cool, and just easy. Now let's talk food--because WOW. The tacos were packed with flavor and seriously delicious. No complaints there at all... I might've been a little too happy while eating them. I did get a skinny margarita, and I'm not gonna lie--it was good, but it showed up looking a little... shy. Smaller than I expected and a bit pricier than I would've liked. But hey, the food definitely made up for it, so I'll let it slide this time. And the staff? Super friendly across the board. The waiters, manager, bartenders--everyone was cool, welcoming, and just easy to talk to. Makes a big difference. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this spot. Great food, great people, great vibe... just maybe order two margaritas if you're feeling festive.

However, they will charge you for a cup of water and there is a $.40 service fee which I cannot explain. At least there was no credit card fee, but the tip screen was waiting. To be honest, their bacon and egg basic taco is pretty average, nothing special, but their red spicy sauce definitely took it up a notch. Their potato sausage and egg taco barely had any discernible sausage to it. It's the communal salsa bar that really makes the tacos extra special. They do have a fountain drink station, bottled soda on ice and a pot of coffee by the order window. You can get quite a variety of mixed drinks like margaritas along with numerous beer choices, although no local beers. Because of the value and sauces, I would definitely come back to this spot again. And just so you know, they do not have a public bathroom here and they are closed Monday. Ten informative photos to fill in what words miss.

Finally, today was the day and I sure wish I would have tried this place sooner. Since moving to Texas from Southern Cal, I haven't found many places that have what I would call authentic tacos. I keep trying hoping to find that place and I just might have. They are located in a small food truck court off 71. Easy parking and they have plenty of outdoor seating if you want to enjoy your tacos fresh. I only ordered "street tacos" with Adobada; I didn't have to wait long and I did take them to-go since I don't live very far. When I got home, they were still fresh and warm. They were prepared in fresh corn tortillas (they do also offer flour) and there is quite a bit of meat. They came with lime wedges and some red & green sauce. Given my experience with other taco locations, I wasn't expecting much. But my first bite... I was surprised at how delicious they are. Most places I have been to, the meat tastes as though it has been warming in a metal bin for awhile and lacks freshness. But this meat was very fresh and delicious. Squeeze a little lime and add some of the green sauce and these tacos are epic! I ordered three and thought for sure I would end up throwing one or two of them out. But after eating two of them, I saved the third for my daughter but was tempted to eat it too. If the tacos are this good... I am sure the rest of the food must be great. I have had tacos from a few places in downtown Austin that are good, but it's a far drive to get them regularly. It's nice to know the best tacos I have tried since coming to Texas is quite close to me. And between the tacos I have had in Austin and Ortega's, I would choose Ortega's any day. Although they provided red sauce, if you like really spicy... use the green sauce. Like finding good tacos, it has been difficult to find good spicy taco sauce but their green sauce is going to make you sweat a little. Although I waited years to try, I'm glad I finally tried Ortega's and I will be back soon.

I heard they had sold off a huge majority stake to another company, and it really shows. Definitely not an ATX thing anymore. Quality control for tacos in Austin out the window. :( Staff was very unanimated. Not rude, cordial, but certainly not friendly. I ordered an off menu item -simple refried beans and cheese in a flour tortilla- and was told it would be four dollars. When I looked at my receipt they charged me 7 bucks; just a few cents less than the Steak Fajita taco I ordered. Rip off IMHO. Both tacos were thrown together so sloppy, with torn tortillas and everything. Sounds very nitpicky I know, but how hard can it be to at least get the ingredients inside a tortilla when you order a taco? Very messy. And the fajita meat had too much gristle on it for my liking (tough). On a positive note, the self service station was very well stocked and clean. Half of the large restaurant consists of four top tables that reads family friendly. The entire other half and patio is totally a local "bar" hangout. It was very apparent there were lots of regulars drinking (and not eating), talking very loudly amongst themselves. So if that's the vibe you seek, this is a joint for you. Um, cheers!

I have tried dozens of places in Austin for tacos and just can't seem to find anything close to the tacos I enjoyed when I lived in San Diego. Living in San Diego, I spent a lot of time in Mexico and I would definitely say they make tacos a particular way. And it was easy to find places in Southern CA that served what I refer to as "authentic" Mexican tacos. When I came to TX, I had heard all about TEX MEX and the "tacos" and was really surprised at the difference between the tacos here and the ones from Mexico/SoCal. But, I'm resilient as a "foodie". I will keep trying until I find that one place and yesterday... I finally found what I would say are the MOST authentic Mexican tacos. I happened to find out about this place on a Facebook post and drove out. It's not a place I would have driven by and even if I did, I might not have stopped. But again, I am determined to find someone who can make tacos like I'm accustomed to eating. It's a little trailer located right on the road and they have a big "TACO" sign on the road so you shouldn't miss it. If not the sign, you will probably see a crowd of people enjoying tacos or waiting for their order. I started off ordering what I would consider the 'basics' - a Carne Asada taco and an al Pastor taco. For me, if these are good, the rest of the food is likely to also be good. For starters, they prepare it when you order it! This is a great sign. So many taco places I have been to, they have the meat all ready and just scoop it into a taco shell. Taco meat should be made to order and not premade so already, you know this is a quality taco shop. You can get corn or flour tortillas but I strongly recommend the corn for a taco. They serve them the traditional way with two tortillas and the tacos come with a generous serving of meat. And talk about hot and fresh! I've also found here in Austin, it's been difficult to find legitimate salsa. I had the green sauce and without question, the BEST salsa I have had since moving to Texas. They really should be selling their salsa! My first round of tacos was so amazing... I ordered more! I ordered more of the carne asada and al pastor to take home to the family and even ordered some bean & cheese burritos. Oddly enough, a bean & cheese burrito is such a staple of just about any Mexican restaurant in SoCal but try and get one here in Texas and it's almost impossible. It was refreshing to find a place that makes a bean & cheese burrito and make them authentically; in a large flour tortilla. If your only experience with Mexican food is "Tex Mex", do yourself a favor and make the trip out and experience some authentic tacos. If you have moved here from SoCal and are missing tacos from home... you'll want to make the drive out here for these tacos! And if you like spicy, you must try the green salsa. By the way, to save time, they do take phone orders so you can always just place your order on your way over and they will have them ready when you arrive. They are very nice people and the food is amazing!
