I'd come here for a desperate cupcake craving, but I think a lot of the taste is in the hype behind it. The icing is good and tasty but the cake itself screams "commercial." It has that carbonated, light airiness of a mix. Think Duncan Hines or Pillsbury, not homemade, scratch, etc. For what they charge, I'd appreciate something I couldn't get out of a 99c box of mix from Big Lots. Major buzzkill. How cute is this place? Love the decor and the amazing flavor choices. Carrot cake, coconut, peanut butter, lemon, vanilla, italian, pecan prailine, german chocolate... the list goes on. Fluffy, creamy cupcakes! No matter which one I got, they were always amazing. My favorite part about this store was the mini cupcakes, just perfect to pop in one bite. The frosting is very fresh and they even sell "frosting shots" for those of you who enjoy the frosting more than the cake. :) Downfalls: There is really not anywhere to sit (I think just one small table and a bench outside) as this store does mostly catering services and seems to be open daily for the drop-ins. It is also in a really inconvenient location of town. Though the location is good for possible wedding customers (since it is next door to one of the best wedding planners in town), it is not nearby any other frequented businesses. Maybe that's why they don't have seating areas... no one really hangs out on 25th street. read more

These cupcakes are a bit nicer than the ones I make at home in terms of the frosting since I don't quite have that skill down yet. It's definitely not the most glamorous place and if you take your cupcakes to go, you're getting them in a styrofoam box. The employee who put my cupcakes in the box was very very careful in putting them in the box to make sure they didn't touch and mix flavors, but the employee at the register was less thrilled to be at her job. Okay... so I love this place! Their cupcakes are soft & they have a fun variety of candy flavors to choose from. The pickle here is: the management is unbelievably rude. If you go in just hope that you either have limited interaction with them or that you meet one of their other staff. Especially avoid the short raspy voiced manager. SO RUDE. My visit was disappointing. We went later in the afternoon around 3:30, and there were only 3 choices of cupcakes left. I chose the banana split cupcake which was a-okay. One of my friends also got a sugar cookie, which I would definitely get if I returned. I think their frosting was the best part, not too sweet or too much. I was also unimpressed with the décor and VERY limited seating (a table with two chairs). I guess I'm used to the cupcake shops at home where the coffee and drinks are available and you can sit and enjoy your cupcake. If you want coffee, you have to go next door (which we did and would recommend). Not really a place I would revisit. read more

After seeing the line at the Silos and still craving a cupcake, we stopped into WAC. Although the decor was cheerful, it was kinda dark and devoid of other customers inside, with unlabeled cupcakes on plastic lunchroom style trays in what looked like a 1980's jewelry display case. For a bakery, it is strange not be well lit, or have a labeled, sealed case to conserve freshness and show off the product for customers to see clearly. The cupcakes were kinda small, around the size of what I would make at home, with a heavy dollop of icing. The lady who came from the back was polite and told us what the flavors were, all pretty standard mix types and one or two seasonal copycats from The Silos. I picked out a chocolate one, but had to buy another (strawberry), since the credit card minimum is right above the cost of a single cupcake. Both were packed in a styrofoam clamshell and I left. The cake was basic and not memorable for either flavor. The sickly sweet icing overpowered everything and was nearly twice the size, likely pushing the air out of what may have been a much fluffier base. I think if they had better ratios of cake/icing and put higher quality ingredients to give customers original treats they couldn't make at home, in a cute package, they certainly could charge more. If everyone pays $3.50 apiece at Magnolia, locals happily would give the same to skip the crowds, as long as the product met the same standard. read more
