Amazing lunch for the basketball team and families. We just had a tournament and came here for lunch. The sandwiches and salads were delicious. We really enjoyed the fresh ingredients! The service was exceptional. The staff worked to get all the orders in quickly and served the meals pretty quickly. They didn't mind that we moved the tables and chairs to make room for everyone. People came to check on us to see if we had everything we needed and if orders were correct. It is rare to have staff come together like this for a large group with no notice. Thank you to the team at What a Bagel Ajax for the exceptional food and the excellent service! Thank you to the woman who checked in on us and for the delicious treats! This place is actually really good! Ive been to the ones in Toronto which have a much bigger menu but our sandwiches really hit! Turkey club on challah is a must. For sure. It's big and comforting. They have delicious bagel sandwiches, I usually get the tuna sandwich. It's well made, and a healthy option for a meal. i didn't find their bagels to be that good on their own. I've had bagels from other places and these bagels were a little off in terms of taste and consistency. The service itself is good, the staff try to help keep things moving. This is my go to place for bagels. I recommend the twister bagels It costs a little more but its a meal in itself. The small regular bagels are excellent too. I have tried every big store bagel and nothing comes close to What a Bagel. They are the exact same taste that my parents used to get when I was a child. I have to drive about 20 minutes west on highway 401 to get to the Ajax location but totally worth it. I always purchase either the rye bread or the egg bread as well. I get the Rye bread with the caraway seeds. I also buy the chocolate cookies with the chocolate pieces on top of them too. ( a little pricy for what you get but totally worth it) :) Thank you for opening up an Ajax Location as I used to have to drive to the Bathurst location. Came here on Monday morning at 7:15am, there's no other customer in the store and It just feels awesome to not have to line up! The smell of freshly baked bagel is just so addicting! For my dozen of bagels, I picked almost one of each except the rainbow bagel (the most colourful bagel I've ever seen!) All my bagels were warm and stayed warm even after coming back home. The cashier lady was the nicest lady ever, she has the warmest smile and we shared the friendliest conversation! I would definitely come back again but next time for treats rather than bagels! Five stars for What a Bagel? Guys, this location is the best one I've tried...and I've been to many a What a Bagel in my time. Personal favourites: cheese bagel toasted with butter...any of the "pressed toast" sandwiches...and the salad bar (which makes a giant, filling salad, especially when you add tuna and/or hard-boiled egg to it). Not only is the staff friendly, they served us quickly. I definitely suggest trying the Challah Bread. It works well for sandwiches, French toast, etc. It smells so good. We also got some bagels and a few apple strudel. We warmed the apple strudel when we got home. They were delicious. read more

This place is pretty great. I came in here early one weekday morning just to check it out. This location is quite big, with a decent amount of seating and a good selection of freshly baked goods. What I really liked, was that although the bagels are a tad expensive ($5 for a bagel with cream cheese ) you also get your choice of veggies to add to it to make a full on sandwich. You have the choice to add tomato, cucumber, onion, lettuce and salt & pepper. Having these options really helps make the price point a little better. I got the everything bagel toasted with spinach and feta cream cheese and all the veggies inside. It was definitely a filling bagel! The service was also fast and friendly! I just love a good bagel in the morning so when I noticed this place with that huge banner stating "Buy 6 Bagels Get 6 Free" I knew I had to check it out. I came here just after 7am on a Saturday morning and the smell of fresh bread was wafting through the air. I could literally see the hot fresh bagels rolling out of the oven as I entered. As soon as I walked through the door I was kindly greeted by the cashier who was sweet as pie and asked if I've been here before and kindly explained the whole process and what they offer. Not only do they have bagels but they also have a variety of baked goods such as croissants, bread loaves, buns, cookies, and pastries. As well they offer hot breakfast, tubs of cream cheeses, made to order bagels, custom salads, sandwiches, fries, and beverages. There was quite a bit of seating too if you wanted to dine in. However the cook doesn't start until 8am so made to order food wasn't available yet. I took my time deciding on my dozen bagels as they offer a variety of flavours. I settled on getting a mixture of whole wheat, multigrain, sesame seed, everything, and pumpernickel. I cashed out and the sweet cashier lady put my two hefty paper bags of bagels in a clear bagel which was nice as it kept them warm too. I was astonished to find that my dozen bagels came to a mere 4 bucks including tax. What a steal! Just a note that these are New York style bagels so they are big and fluffy and plain tasting which is good for smearing on a bevy of toppings but if your looking for a denser more sweeter bagel such as Montreal style these are not for you. When I got home I immediately toasted up a whole wheat bagel and the outsides got nice and crisp with a light crunchy crust but the insides stayed soft and fluffy. There is no sweetness to these bagels so it was perfect for my favourite combo of a heavy smearing of PBJ. The service here was outstanding, the shop is spacious and very clean, and a dozen bagels for 4 bucks seems like a steal of a deal, I will definitely be back! read more

My little sister's go to place with her and her friends. After a 20km bike ride we decided to grab some lunch at What a bagel! Best decision ever and great thing they were open on civic long weekend. We ordered and shared the smoked salmon sandwich on a marble bagel, the avocado grilled cheese on an everything bagel with sweet potato fries. The overall meal exceeded my expectations. Blog TO was right about the smoked salmon bagel with two eggs, tomato's and capers. It was so delicious. But what surprised me the most was the crispy fresh sweet potato fries with their fresh dipping sauce. It was to die for! Lots of parking as they're located in a strip mall. Employees are super nice and food comes out fairly quickly. You order at the counter, grab a number and take a seat. I was SO excited to see a What A Bagel open here in Ajax after trying their rainbow bagels for the first time from Richmond Hill, but I had a rather awkward experience with the female owner during one of their free bagel promotions that kind of deterred me from enjoying this location. She started friendly conversation to begin and we told her we found What A Bagel through one of their previous Free Bagel promotions. She then said "So you only come here for the free bagels?" Then tried to really press us into buying a chicken schnitzel sandwich. We kindly declined, she handed us our bagels after counting them and told us we were good to go, coldly. What she didn't realize was that we were waiting to pay for two tubs of cream cheese that a staff member was preparing for us which we ordered BECAUSE we were given the great promotion of free bagels. Was kind of off-put by that experience. I mean, if you give people the option of "Free 6 Bagels, No Purchase Necessary" - there's no need to get passive-aggressive when people come to your store to use the promotion, especially if they happily make a purchase anyways... Nevertheless, we have had great experiences on other occasions with the front-end staff. If it weren't for the other good experiences we've had with staff, I probably would rate this location lower. read more

These are BY FAR the best bagels around!! So fresh and delicious. As for the food there, absolutely yummy. The Chicken Parm sandwich is out of this world. Being married to an Italian man and having had chicken parm too many times to count I decided to try it thinking meh it's just chicken parm. I was blown away as to how good it was, I mean I could literally eat it everyday. Now that I have been buying they're cream cheese, nothing I buy at the grocery store even stacks up to it so I don't even bother buying elsewhere. It's so flavorful and light tasting. To those of you have bought the cream cheese at the grocery store that's supposed to be light and fluffy, it's not the same as at What a Bagel.
