I wanted to give another shoutout to the WVC for being so GREAT! Specifically Murray, who took the time to call and give me a wealth of information I needed. Every time I'm here I know my pup is in good hands. The staff is always attentive to all your needs and concerns. I cannot imagine what life would be like without you all! Thank you for all that you do! If you're in NYC and looking for a competent vet this is THE BEST OPTION for you. Take it from someone who has been all around Manhattan!

    DOUG AND BOB'S GIRL "KARLA".

We have been patrons of The Westside Veterinary Center for approximately 30 years and continue to bring our furry kids to them. They by far exceed the usual attention to health concerns, questions, details of treatment plans and prognoses in a fashion that is completely comforting, offering great relief and understanding in proceeding with medical decisions for our pets. We are always completely comfortable when placing animals in their superior care for any of their broad array of services including boarding. You will be too!!! I have posted photos of only a smattering of the pets we've had over the years, that all the doctors (past and present), at Westside Vet have administered only the finest care available, for their continued optimal health and happiness. Doctor Karen Cantor is nothing short of magnificent and having had a decades-long relationship with her as the primary physician for all my animals, I can tell you that unequivocally there is no better veterinarian and staff to whom I would ever entrust the care of our pets. Murray has been there a good 27 years, offering an even greater sense of stability and security, addressing concerns arise expeditiously and always with the greatest compassion. He's a one-man "Mr. Fix-It" for any (out of the ordinary), administrative and clinical issues. No one just works there. Every employee is a true animal lover which we find to be a rarity in quite a number of practices. The nursing staff, for example, Dawn who has also been there for decades, are some of the most caring, compassionate and warm individuals we've ever met. We can go on for paragraphs about the whole clinic and each particular nuance of attentiveness from admissions to discharge or just general care and the gracious, welcoming and inviting nature of the clerical staff, such as Gina. Doctors and surgeons kasovsky, Cavanaugh, Napolitano, Bodkin, etc. are the finest first line of medical defense and treatment around. We must also mention a very special employee, Crystal, who has honestly been just a joy to have known over these many years. When legitimate concerns arise due to the illness of your pet, who have no voice of their own to ask for help, we always felt as though we were going to people known on a first name basis, dear old friends, to identify any illnesses, ailing your fur babies but also to offer great comfort in the knowledge that your loved one is in the very best of care. Thank you Karen, Murray, Dawn, Gina and all the staff of The Westside Veterinary Center. Doug R. and Bob M.

I am so thankful for Westside Veterinary Center. Very few places care for parakeets and the one or two Avian places are ridiculously expensive and expected money upfront before I even brought my beautiful budgie "Cookie" in for her first wellness check when I rescued her after she was abandoned in an apartment for 6 days with hardly any food or water. So grateful that Dr. Cantor was able to see her fairly quickly and didn't charge me a fortune to do so. She is very kind, caring and professional. The facility is clean and is always "buzzing" with dogs, cats, etc. and their owners. The staff is always kind and helpful on the phone and in person. I've had Cookie for a little over two years and am still learning how to care for her because I always had dogs in my life. Dr. Cantor has been extremely instrumental in helping me and somewhat educating me about caring for my parakeet. I can't imagine going anywhere else and getting the attention to detail and kindness that my sweet bird and I have received.

I would overwellmingly recommend this vet practice to any animal parent. I've been a client for three cats, including my present one. Being a group practice, Westside has the advantages of peer consultations with many specialties, extensive facilities and their staff is great, from reception, vet techs and nurses to the doctors. But one aspect of this practice enrages me. They send an email reminding you that your pet's rabies shot is due. You make an appointment a week and a half after the due date for a check-up. You attend the appointment. Three days later you get another email reminding you your pet's rabies shot is due! You review the invoice: sure enough, no shot was given. Why should I be responsible for reminding them to give a shot they reminded me was due?!? Inefficient record keeping at best, a flagrant bid to charge for an additional visit at worst. This is no slight inconvenience for us: a vet visit means a pre-surgical fasting regimen because my cat is so traumatized by travel he voids from every orifice unless he's already empty. Fun times. Recommended, but with this warning.

I took my 13 year old dog for the first time to this clinic so she can get acupuncture to relieve symptoms of her IVDD. I had a very positive experience from the time I walked through their door til I left. My dog GiGi was seen on time by Dr. Jones who explained everything and was gentle with my baby. She was knowledgeable and kind. The front desk staff was friendly and engaging. I will be returning with Gigi next week for her second treatment with Dr. Jones.

Our beloved dog Paul is alive bc of Dr. Rosenthal. He had been diagnosed with IBD and after extensive treatment at Blue Pearl Hospital he still had lost 40% of his body weight, and had diarrhea 24-7. We were told there was nothing further to be done and we needed to have a quality of life discussion. Then two friends each said to see Dr Rosenthal. She took a deep interest in Paul, adjusted his food and medicine on a daily basis, and set out to save his life. Which she did. He is back to his normal weight and his pooping is normal. We have had these last few months of joy with Paul because of her. This kind of attention is so rare, We were so lucky to be her patient. We love Dr Rosenthal, she is the best!

Birdie in his favorite spot, singing with the birds.

THE BEST THERE IS IN VETERINARY CARE My beloved cats have been under the dedicated care of Westside Veterinary Center since 2017. I continue to be amazed at the high level of care, kindness, and competency displayed by all who work there. From the reception staff who always greet you with a smile, and, a hug when you need it--to the knowledgeable clinic doctors who leave no stone unturned when it comes to diagnosing your baby's health issue and creating effective treatment plans. Birdie--so called because he likes to sit in the window and sing with the birds--spent his first year alone in the streets of South Carolina, before being rescued by Best Friends, where I found him and brought him home. He just turned three last month and shortly thereafter developed a problem with his digestive tract. Over a two-week period, he ate less and less until he stopped. Along the way he was throwing up and dry heaving regularly a couple of times a day. We feared that he had a blockage. Dr. Cantor, clinic director, stayed in close contact with me throughout his treatment. It was reassuring knowing I could always reach her by email or phone, and she was diligent in responding in a timely fashion. I'm the kind of person who asks a lot of questions. Dr. Cantor was always patient and thorough in making sure I was comfortable with and understood every step of the process. Westside Veterinary Center has in-house pharmacy, X-ray, surgery access, dental care, plus they offer boarding and a 24-hour operation. Whether it's annual vaccinations or wellness care, to immediate and life threatening concerns, WSVC can be trusted with your baby. I've seen a couple of ugly reviews online about WSVC, but I know they aren't true. If the whole story were told, the outcome would be that the writer was miffed that the WSVC staff always puts the animal first. No shortcuts. No masking the truth. Westside Veterinary Center is simply one of the top practices in the five boroughs. You can't go wrong when you put your baby in their hands.

I've been going to Westside Vet for over 20 years. I've had ask sorts of critters- cats, dogs and even two bunnies that we picked up (one off of Broadway). They have the depth to handle them all. Their care is performed compassionately and honestly I will never forget the Thanksgiving we spent there with our dying cat. It was not a good time for us - but Westside made it easier. I have nothing but amazing things to say aboit these people.

This is a photo of my dog's ashes. Literally all that's left after their negligence.

Do any of your vets qualify as Internal Medicine Specialists?

Not sure but they are awesome. Everyone there is amazing. Call and ask

Does this business provide veterinary care for exotics/small animals?

Yes. Dr. Cantor was trained at the Animal Medical Center and has 30 years of experience.

Is there boarding at Westside Veterinary acenter?

Hello Lizzy. Yes, Westside Vet Center provides boarding for our patients that are current on annual exams and vaccines with our hospital.

Does anyone know if they accept pet insurance? I have Healthy Paws- I'm pretty sure the rule is just me submitting the receipts to my insurance and they handle it from there but I always like to ask just in case ...

Insurance claims are submitted by the policy holder to the insurance company with paid receipt from the veterinary visit., Westside will supply copies of the relating entries in the patient's medical record when requested by the insurance company.

I understand that many times veterinary hospitals receive negative reviews because we are in a heightened emotional state when our pets are sick or in crisis. But my experience here was the complete opposite, and I feel it's important to recognize the incredible care they provide. I rushed my beloved dog, Bella, in during a medical emergency, not knowing just how serious her condition was. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff treated us with such kindness, patience, and compassion. They took the time to thoroughly explain her diagnosis and condition in a way that made me feel supported and informed during one of the most overwhelming moments of my life. What stood out most was not just how they cared for Bella, but how they cared for every animal in their ER. I witnessed firsthand how attentive and gentle they were with pets whose owners weren't present--comforting them, monitoring them closely, and treating each one with genuine love and respect. That meant everything to me. Tragically, Bella passed away the very next day. When I returned for her cremation, the staff showed me an incredible level of compassion. Called this place after doing an extensive search for a decently rated pet ER (not many around me). I am so thankful there is at least one, and they're open 'round the clock. Was placed in an examination room and was seen fairly quickly by a tech for vitals, followed by the vet (I swear I tried so hard to remember her name to give her a personal shout out but stress took away my memory). She was awesome. Thorough and caring. While nothing appeared to be an evident emergency, my cat was clearly suffering from something hurting him. Recommended course of action seemed slightly excessive, but this vet truly stepped up to help me out. I consented to an xray, which indicated constipation. Treatment included sub-q hydration, anti-nausea medication, and a laxative. Cat had never been poked and prodded so much in his life. But he was such a good boy, and thankfully never bit or scratched- just growled and hissed. I would have too, little buddy!! I truly, sincerely appreciate knowing my boy doesn't have any bowel obstruction or anything worse. Great relief that we'll manage with the laxative and hopefully he'll be good as new. Thank you to the Vet Tech and the assistant who were both so helpful and supportive (and whose names I also forgot). Great team. I really, really love that every staff member called my boy "friend" and treated him like their own.

***WARNING - DO NOT GO HERE WITH ANY EMERGENCIES***…read moreIncompetent, apathetic, PE-owned ER that will actually significantly increase the odds your pet dies. My 3-month-old cockapoo ate a thin thong. We were at VEG Flatiron within 10 minutes of ingestion. Only one other animal was in the facility, stable and being monitored. We were the only active case. What should have been a routine emetic-then-scope visit became a six-hour ordeal across two VEG locations. It took roughly an hour to get the first dose of apomorphine. Staff were audibly socializing and gossiping about parties rather than working. We paid upfront. When the first emetic failed, we waited another 40 minutes for a second dose, not for any clinical reason, just because nobody was prioritizing the case. When emesis failed, the vet recommended endoscopic retrieval. We agreed immediately and paid $6,000 upfront. We then waited over an hour to begin. When I asked about the delay, staff were socializing and the vet was on his phone. They were "waiting for someone to come help." When they finally induced anesthesia on a 3-month-old puppy and attempted the scope, the endoscope did not work. They kept him under while calling the manufacturer's support line on speakerphone in front of us, where the agent's first question was, verbatim: "Have you tried making sure the machine was on? That was the issue last time." That level of incompetence is truly hard to believe. They re-dosed anesthesia three times troubleshooting equipment that had failed before and that nobody had checked. They gave up and transferred us to VEG UES, promising the scope there was prepped and ready (It wasn't). They offered to cover the Uber (They didn't). At UES, the nurse re-weighed him and re-took his temperature, procedures just performed an hour earlier. We waited over another hour. When I asked the receiving vet whether VEG Flatiron had transferred his anesthesia drug history, critical information for safely re-inducing a puppy who had already been under that night, the answer was no. Nothing had been transferred between two locations of the same company on the same EMR. The vet said she would "get those records." After nearly two hours with a catheter still in my puppy's arm, I went to ask for an ETA. A nurse was rude to me. It was clear my asking the question is what prompted them to actually start prepping. They had not been working on it. When they finally induced him and started the scope, the second endoscope also did not work. The vet asked her tech if he had checked the machine beforehand. He said yes. He had not. Here is what saved my dog: the attending vet at VEG UES is genuinely skilled. She performed the retrieval without insufflation, improvising around equipment her team failed to verify, and got the underwear out because it was bright red and still in the stomach. She is the only competent person in this story. After retrieval, while my puppy was still under anesthesia, the team continued troubleshooting the broken scope, testing equipment on my dog's anesthesia time. Then their computer crashed. After ten minutes of watching them reboot their app while my puppy remained under, I told them to stop. We never got a complete gastric examination because insufflation never worked. We accepted that risk because it was lower than letting them keep him under any longer. My puppy is fine. This review is not about a bad outcome. It is about the fact that the outcome was almost catastrophic, and would have been if the foreign body had migrated past the pylorus during one of the many unjustified delays, at which point we would have been looking at emergency surgery on a 3-month-old with materially higher mortality risk. The pattern across both locations: two broken endoscopes in the same chain on the same night. Equipment not verified before induction of anesthesia, twice. No transfer of anesthesia records between sister locations. Staff socializing and gossiping about parties while a critical case waited. Three rounds of induction agents on a 3-month-old puppy for a procedure that was never properly completed. $6,000 collected upfront for a service that was never fully delivered. This is not bad luck. It is structural and intentional. VEG is a private-equity-owned chain selling consumer-friendly branding - but under the surface is hiring too few of the cheapest, most apathetic staff, and clearly not maintaining their equipment. This is Private Equity 101. Cut costs, raise prices, shove it down the consumer's throat. The positive reviews here are from people who came in with simple (often non ER) cases any clinic could handle. DO NOT GAMBLE WITH A REAL EMERGENCY. This is not my final action with this company, but I am warning anyone and everyone I can with an animal, to never go to this ER. They don't care and they will significantly increase the odds that your pet dies. We just got lucky.
