Westside Station would likely be a three for me were it not a USPS. Given how low our expectations are for these, though, I have to say I'm a fan. A couple of quibbles: first, the copy/fax machine is incomprehensible, a complete mystery of nature. I was trying to fax an insurance document and gave up after 15 minutes of cursing and inexplicable error messages; second, you will get panhandled on the way in and out. WSPO is in one of the rougher sections of Grant St., and the post office is one of the few places people still seem to bring cash, so there you go. That said, having a post office a few blocks away (we have a locked door on the street, so our carrier wisely will not leave packages) is hugely convenient, there's seldom a long line, there's usually parking, and the employees are gruff, helpful, and funny in a perfectly Grant Street kind of way. They're even working with us to get our carrier a key so we don't always have to pick things up. read more

Five cheers for the Westside Post Office. I lost my phone (which also happened to be my wallet, ouch!) last week. I was looking forward to getting out of obscurity and this digital-less world with a shipment of a phone, but when I got home at literally 4:55pm there was a slip for a signature needed. I called the West Side post office and while it was busy until 4:57pm, I finally reached someone at 4:58pm. I told them I'm a few minutes away and they said they would hold the door for me. I sped over there and there was quite literally someone at the door with my package. Customer service doesn't get any better than that. To my credit, I did get there around 5:05 or 5:07pm so it was only a few minutes after closing time, but man -- I'm glad I don't have to go phone-less for another day. Thank you to the Westside Post Office for the excellent customer service. I definitely love you! read more

This is one of my favorite post offices of all time. Yes, I have a favorite post office. I actually look forward to dropping by this place while doing my errands along Grant Street. After gassing up on coffee, lunch and groceries at Sweetness 7 and Guercio's (respectively), it's off to this friendly post office to pick up stamps and send off presents. They've got a wall of boxes, tape, pretty envelopes and supplies that I have torn apart on multiple occasions in the name of creative packing, and they're always happy to ring me up for the scraps of USBs I bring them from bubble wrap packages. Yes, happy post office employees. But my favorite part about this place is not just the way they treat me as a customer, which is always with kindness and a smile. I also love the way they treat eachother. The employees here genuinely seem to like working together -- they're always teasing each other as they help each other out, while keeping the line moving, and that ease and joviality is contagious. I always walk out of here with a smile. Yes, a smile on my face after hitting the post office. That's the Westside for you. It's kind of the best, in the weirdest of ways. read more

I never had a problem with these guys. As a Big Amazon shopper I do get to know my mailman and woman pretty good, they are all always friendly people- and tough as nails in Rain, Sleet, Wind, or Snow. :-P The office itself is good, well laid out, and equally friendly. They seem to only hire good people which I'm thankful for. It can get busy here, like any post office, and they handle the lines as well as to be expected. The staff at this particular Post Office are very efficient. There is plenty of parking and although the line may be long at times, it moves pretty quickly. I recently came here to get a change of address form and they gave me the paperwork without making me wait on the line. When I was done filling everything out, I handed it to one of the workers and was on my way. The people behind the counter were very friendly and asked me about my move and how I was liking the new location. Just a simple, easy experience, but felt the need to share! read more

I visited this post office on a Saturday during peak service hours. And, surprisingly, I was in and out rather quickly. Dare I say it, they had three people working at the counter and so the long line that I saw coming in was taken care of quickly and efficiently. Wow! And the counter person was personable and nice, woohoo! Now, most post office employees are competent - I really feel for the struggling USPS because they all probably have to work 18 jobs behind the counter. For customer service, probably not the height of the USPS worries, they just need more people dedicated to counter service. So, in summary, as much as it might make this location busier, if you have the option you should probably come here. A few notes: They do not seem to have an automatic shipping machine. They also don't have a stamp dispenser or anything, so you'll be waiting in line to get stamps. Their stock of USPS goods seems limited, but I'm usually prepared. But if you need stuff, you might be best to head to a store beforehand to pick up packaging. read more

Although the lines sometimes look a little daunting, the staff here seems to manage patrons more efficiently than most local branches. There are some real characters here, so even if you have to wait, you're likely to have good laugh. This is one of the local branches where you can apply for a passport--but check the hours before you show up. The passport desk isn't open on the same schedule as the branch. If there's one complaint I have, it's the lack of a stamp vending machine of some kind. That seems like a feature that could help those lines run even more fluidly. read more

At times it can be dead which means you can get in and out fairly fast unless you have to package up something that needs to be sent out there. If you have them package it they will charge you for it, you're better off getting the materials and doing it yourself to save a few bucks. The staff here is happy and respectful more times than not. Over the years there has been a few rude folks working in there, but I also understand how frustrating it can be. When you work with customers it can get to you over time and turn you into something you may not even realize you turned into. Judging by the stupid questions I hear while waiting in line, it's no wonder people have some bad days, but i'll give it to them they pull it together and work great as a team, and that's the reason I chose to got to this particular branch over any of the other ones I could go to. I do not like this Office at all. Very irresponsible in picking up mail. Mailed out wedding invites in batches along with other mail on March 22. Batch #1 was mailed at the mailbox in front of the Connecticut Street Armory and still has not been received by recipients in Buffalo. Batch #2 was mailed on March 29 at a different location and recipients in California received them within the week. The mailboxes are not being checked in a timely manner. I called and was told "yes, yes they do!" No, no you don't". If that was the case where have 35 wedding invites gone?? read more

Very friendly post office where the lines tend to be relatively short. Hard to find such cheerful and helpful employees elsewhere.
