Yelp Review 2024 #112: I was on a business class flight from Calgary to Tokyo on a 787 Dreamliner with WestJet recently. The service was quite impressive out of all the business class flights I've taken. Each section of business class has its dedicated flight attendant. Mine was Haika (sp?) and she was fantastic. She gave me peppermint tea whenever I asked for it (a flight attendant at a different airline told me I can only have tea after my meals - what kind of nonsense is that?!?). WestJet doesn't have first class. It starts at business class, premium, extended comfort, and standard economy. What's standard in business class: Priority screening, boarding, and baggage 2 free checked luggage Lounge access Welcome drink Better meals with real utensils and flatware Free alcohol/ other drinks, and snacks Bigger and cleaner bathrooms accessed by 16 business class passengers only Private pods with lie-flat seats Amenity kit (Herschel) The downside: - You can't find the menu on their app or on their website. You decide what you're going to eat once you get seated. I was pretty much pleased with my meals in the beginning (snack: cashews, chocolate-covered biscuit and tea; first meal: edamame, smoked salmon, braised beef short rib/ chicken teriyaki/ chunky tomato and vegetable linguini, dinner roll, and apple crisp). The final meal was a letdown: chicken with pasta shells that I could not finish. But I was never hungry/ thirsty. - limited newer movie selection - no slippers The headphones provided were decent. The bathroom was always clean and not smelly. The flight was the smoothest I've had going to Asia. The best part: no crying kids! Overall, I had a very nice and comfortable flight. I arrived in Tokyo feeling refreshed despite drinking sparkling wine during the flight.

    No space

Genius factory on overtime. Over 5'6" you will need to use a different airline. What a disappointment with the new seat configuration. All in the name of greed.

My recent trip to western Canada, namely to Edmonton and from Calgary, was my first experience with Westjet, a Canadian economy airline.  They are partners with Delta. It was an ok experience but they operate more of an economy self service business model.  For example, you should pre-pay for check-in luggage online ($25 CAD) unless you want to pay $10 CAD more using a gate agent.  With pre-paid luggage, you also do your own bag tagging using a kiosk and load your bag on the conveyor - it's no biggie just an fyi.  Their website is on the slow side I found but it eventually got the job done with seat assignments and check-ins.   The outbound itinerary was a Delta flight connecting to Edmonton via Minneapolis.   It was a little confusing with the websites as both Delta and Westjet had separate confirmation numbers and each claimed to do the full trip.    With the goofy fare structures, I could get our seat assignments early on the Delta leg but could not do so on the Westjet leg until 24 hours prior to departure.  With the fare I had, I could not even pay to get an early Westjet seat assignment.  I thought it was all a bit overly confusing.  Fortunately they had no trouble checking my luggage all the way to Edmonton so the luggage transfer was no issue between the partner airlines.   On the return non-stop from Calgary and with my particular fare, I was able to pay $13 per seat to get an early seat assignment. It's a nickel and dime-ing business these days. Overall, ok and basic, but don't expect much human interaction without a fee or cost of some sort.

Extremely Disappointing and Unprofessional Experience with WestJet Our experience with WestJet at Calgary International Airport was shockingly unprofessional and downright hostile. Upon arriving at the Priority Check-in, we were immediately met with an aggressive and rude desk agent who dismissed our status as First Class passengers and Delta Medallion Members. Her behavior was confrontational, impatient, and completely unacceptable--going as far as implying we did not deserve to fly First Class. The issues didn't end there. After unnecessary delays and mistreatment, we later discovered that our checked baggage never made it onto our flight to Atlanta. The tracking system confirmed our bags were only sent on a different flight the next day, causing extreme inconvenience, particularly as essential medications were in our luggage. Despite multiple attempts, WestJet's customer service has been unresponsive, adding to our frustration. This experience raises serious concerns about their professionalism, competence, and regard for passenger well-being. We expected a premium experience but instead faced disrespect, delays, and baggage mishandling. Absolutely unacceptable--WestJet needs to address these service failures immediately. On top of all this there is no entertainment on this 4.5 hrs flight and really poor condition of the aircraft.

I'm really sad about what I experienced with WestJet. The ticket price and friendly German guy at the check-in counter at YVR were positive things. However, others like booking, changing schedules without notice, misleading checked baggage information, sad inflight meals, worn out airplane for the brand new route, non enthusiastic flight attendants...negative impression were most. Flight information was wrong and it was quite stressful for my family who were supposed to pick me up. If you have a long flight, don't forget to bring some food/snack.

I carried a small backpack as my personal item, containing essentials for a two-night trip. It was accepted without issue on all prior flights, including the connection from Seattle to Calgary. I did not pay for a personal item bag on the flight, because I did not have one. I had a half empty backpack well under the size limits for a carry-on. However, at the gate in Calgary, an agent rudely stopped me, insisting I pay $84, claiming my bag was a carry-on, despite it clearly meeting personal item size guidelines. I explained my situation, highlighting that I was late returning home due to the strike, and my bag had been accepted without issue earlier. The agent was dismissive, charged me more than the listed fee, sent me to the back of the line (passive aggressive punishment - I didn't get to board after they tagged and charged my bag), and delayed the boarding process by 15 minutes. Passengers behind me voiced their support, noting the agent's unnecessary actions and offering to claim my bag as their carry-on to avoid further disruption. We were all frustrated and just trying to get home now that flights were running. Our plane landed 20 minutes late because of this incident as he held up the plane. I told the agent I wanted to write a formal complaint to get my money back, and what are the steps to doing that, and he said 'google it' Once home, I immediately filed a complaint online. Despite multiple follow-up attempts over eight months, WestJet never contacted me. I was finally told after being able to reach someone on the phone that that no action was taken and there would be no accountability. This lack of response was disheartening, especially after such an ordeal. There was no reimbursement for this bogus $84 I was unfairly charged, and apology or review for the agents actions, nor an explanation for WestJet's failure to follow up. I hope this complaint highlights the need for better customer service and accountability, as no passenger should endure what I did--especially after facing significant travel disruptions and being trapped outside your home country for three days with no communication. I would have hoped the agents and west jet's priority was to get us all home safely after a stressful period. I know there are obviously going to be people with bigger problems than mine, and I'm grateful to be able to afford travelling at all, but kindness is free. It's small things like this that give corporations problems because people don't expect to purchase things supporting a business and then be abused by staff, just because they can. To find out Westjet had no interest in even reviewing the incident, and perhaps talking to the staff to ensure a better quality control with customer experience was outright shocking to me. They don't care to hear my story, even though I have photographic evidence backing everything I have said (the agent, my empty bag under the size limit, my bag clearly being under the size of the bag checker they had there, etc).

The tiny plane that took me from Calgary to Vancouver had the smoothest take off and landing I had all day of my flights.

Sunwing rep at the resort did not coordinate with Sunwing and just phoned another resort to offer us an opportunity to pay $1400 for two nights at another resort. Short story, we traveled away from this hell hole everyday to avoid eating here. Never using Sunwing again. As for the airline, they try to fit as many people as possible on the plane.
